welcome from bouchard livestock Welcome to the Annual Southwest Showcase Bull Sale. The Southwest Showcase has quickly risen to the top of the list when it comes to a venue to source top end purebred and commerical herdbulls. Every year this group of producers present to you a great group of yearling bulls suitable in terms of genetics and condition to go out in your respective breeding pastures. Again for 2014 they have brought you bulls from the heart of their cowherd and sired by either their proven walking herdbulls or AI sires in the top end of the Simmental breed. Whether your program is commerical or purebred you will find individuals to suit your performance, calving ease and maternal needs. I strongly urge you to call the proven producers and discuss your bull needs so they can give you as much pertinent information as possible. The Bouchard Livestock staff will be around the sale barn at Heartland in Swift Current and available to assist. Hope to visit with you on Monday, March 31 in Swift Current. If for any reason you cannot be in attendance it will be our pleasure to act in your interests in the most professional manner. - Brian Bouchard

Bull Development & Delivery The Southwest Showcase consignors will keep bulls free of charge until May 1st, 2014. Buyers need to insure the bulls while being cared for by the consignors. Option A: Bulls can be picked up at Heartland Livestock sale day and a $50 discount will be deducted from the sale price Option B: At the buyer’s option and risk, the bulls can be returned to the consignor’s farm and picked up anytime at the buyer’s convenience. Option C: Please make arrangements with the consignor if trucking is required. EPD Explanation EPDs are “Expected Progeny Differences”. They are a useful tool in selection. EPDs incorporate the individual animal with its averaged ancestry performance. EPDs do not compare across cattle breeds, they are individually based per breed. EPDs indicate a probable variance above or below breed average for that trait for a given bull’s progeny. Use them for guidance in the direction you want your herd to go. First and foremost we would like to thank all the bidders and buyers from our previous sales, if it wasn’t for you we wouldn’t be here. Many of you have been here and active at every sale and for that we are very grateful. We raise our cattle here in the cypress hills much as our family has for the last 105 years. There is no creep feeding, grazing alfalfa, and no magic feed rations. We calve our cows in April and May and wean in October. The bulls are hand fed grain and hay where we strive to have them gain 100 lbs per month. Our goal is to raise our cattle using the same management style as our bull customers so they will work well for you. Because of the age of the bulls at sale time, they will not be semen tested but they will be palpated and measured. We would like to take them back home until they are 13 months of age to semen test. Once they are tested, we will deliver them to you within the three prairie provinces at our cost. This has worked very well in the past; in the last 3 years, we have not had a bull fail his semen test so we are confident in this program. These bulls are fertile – we have had bulls used naturally breeding cows at 12 months of age. Watch out for our two junior herdsmen at the sale, Reece and Gavin. The bulls might be quiet but these two sure are not! If you have any questions about the bulls, feel free to call Don or Ryan anytime.

A big time herd bull prospect here. 2A is as long as a visit from your motherin-law and thick in all the right places. He was shown at Agribition where he was third in class. Look at his EPD’s; over 100 for yearling and over 30 for milk. High performing cattle and excellent daughters will be his legacy. Along with that an actual birth weight of 82 lbs and a calving ease EPD of 12.5 means he could be a heifer bull. We believe he is in an elite group with this complete of an EPD package. 2A’s dam, 133X, is an excellent young cow out of a perfect cow family. His grand dam, 161N, also has a bull in the sale; a good TURBO calf LW 93A (Lot #3). We would like to reserve the right to draw semen on 2A for in herd use at our expense and the buyer’s convenience. • Actual Weaning Weight – 845 lbs at 190 days • Actual Weight at 10 ½ months – 1325 lbs

A real tank of a bull that is very similar in type to the TURBO son Sunny Valley purchased from us at last year’s sale. (X-T RED TURBO 26Z) TURBO cattle are all so moderate in frame and big barreled with a big stifle muscle. Look at this calf from behind and admire the muscle and big wide top. TURBO bulls have been very popular at this sale with a number of them going to top end purebred breeders. If you’ve never had a TURBO, here is an opportunity to get a good one. The sire, 1Y, was born small but he was also a real performer; gaining over 5lbs per day from weaning to yearling and weighed 1650lbs at fourteen months. Once again out of a real good HEAVYWEIGHT cow; isn’t it remarkable how these good genetics keep showing up. The best genetics don’t cost you money, they pay you back many times over the generations. This is one of the strongest sets of bulls we’ve had on offer and when going through their pedigrees, it’s easy to see why. Consistency, longevity, performance, with a balance of calving ease- it’s all bred in. All of the bulls have been Polled and Color tested, though not all the results were in by cataloging time, so please feel free to call for more results. We really encourage you to visit our website. Feature bull. 11A is one of those bulls that always catches your eye. He is exceptionally deep, powerful, soggy and dark red. His beautiful “Red Label” dam is very hard to fault – long, deep bodied, wide, dark red, and an udder that will last forever. 15X was named Reserve Champion female with bull calf (11A) at side at the SCPS last fall, out of 18 pens of pairs. Her sister 834U had our high selling red bull at this sale last year and the Tumbler cow family as a whole probably has the best udder confirmation on the ranch. 11A himself was the #1 ranked red bull for AWW and AYW and his EPDs top 30% for CE & BW, 25% WW, & 20% MCE. We love the depth of body and performance that his “Identity” sire infuses into his calves. 11A has the pedigree, performance, numbers and “look” of a great young herdsire. Homozygous Polled

Heidi 725T was the 2nd high selling bred at the Kimlake Dispersal and was also shown as a bred. She consistently produces showy, top-end calves. Her great grandson sells as Lot 17. 75A is very correct, balanced, hairy, square made, with good muscling and and a great disposition. His full brother was the high selling red bull at the YC Bull Sale to Diamond K. His ¾ sister is the dam of Lot 20 and his maternal sister is the Dam of Lot 21. Both are powerful females that are a true testament to the greatness of 75A’s Dam. At 9yrs old Reggie 110R is still a beauty with a great udder, tremendous depth of body, and thickness she transmits to all her progeny. Every daughter is working in our herd. 75A had a 72 lbs BW, and EPDs in top 10% CE, 1% BW, 30% MCE, so he’ll be a sleep-easy calving ease bull with above average performance. We bred Reggie to “Gunner” hoping for a heifer, but we definitely are not disappointed in this bull calf. Keep every female out of this bull. Homozygous Polled

The day she calves each year brings a little extra excitement around home, and when it is a bull we know he is going to be at the top of the pen next spring. This is the fourth son to sell through this sale, two of which have sold to Owen Schmitz, Central Butte and a third going down to Oklahoma. This year’s bull is every bit as good as the ones before him and one you will really like. Homozygous Polled Test Pending

A long bodied high performance bull with a lot to offer. His mother has been a very consistent producer for us, as have all the Robin Hood daughters we have owned. They have all been good uddered, hard working cows that produce well year after year. A maternal brother sold in last year’s sale to M Over C, Hazenmore. EDN simmentals Welcome to our 5th Southwest Showcase Bull Sale. We would like to express our appreciation to all buyers and bidders of our bulls, past and present. We have worked to breed hardy trouble free cattle and believe very strongly in building around cow families that have proven they are superior. The bulls on offer are the result of over 40 years of breeding and were selected from 153 born in 2013. We present them the way we would like to buy them – not overfed, no feet trimmed, semen tested and ready to breed cows. We stand behind our bulls, so if any problems arise please do not hesitate to contact us. We will have backup bulls available. We welcome your call. The bulls are available at the ranch for viewing at any time.

Here is a really moderate, big barrelled bull with good testicular development and a very easy going nature. Take note of the 86lb. birth weight. A big footed easy moving bull sired by Highway 5 Tony who was also the sire of our top selling black at last year’s sale going to Charles Weisgerber. His trouble free dam has produced well. 131A was her 10th calf. Four daughters are in our herd, bulls have gone to Doug Goudy and Lane Bellew. She is also the Great Grand dam of 135A. Arlo is a bull I really like. He is medium frame sized, long bodied, smooth made, clean fronted and has a small head for calving ease. He walks effortlessly on a perfect set of feet and legs. Dog guiet and big testicles. He should increase milk flow and improve udders in his daughters. His dam is a consistent producing front pasture cow that probably should be in an embryo transplant program. Three daughters in herd and the pick of the 2012 heifer crop sold privately to Erixon Simmentals for $8,000. A son is doing everything right for Wade & Klea Wasilow. The Grand dam by Joker at 11 years of age is still one of the best footed and uddered cows in the herd. Homozygous Polled

His feminine, nice uddered first calf Russian dam did a super job on him. Without a doubt one of the most complete bulls we have ever offered for sale. Phenotypically hard to beat. Bolaro is a super sound, free moving bull with excellent feet and legs, above average length, nice top, and ample bone. Bolaro is smooth made and has a nice temperament to boot. Bolaro is a direct son out of Hooks Shear Force the maternal and calving ease specialist and is backed by an excellent young Black Joker daughter who has quickly become a cornerstone in our herd. Bolaro’s dam TSZ After Glow is a big volumed, mild mannered cow with superb feet and legs, excellent udder and length. Bolaro’s grand dam has all the same attributes and is the dam to TSZ Moonshine 743A, the thick and meaty blaze face bull also in this sale. Bolaro’s great grand dam can really pack some punch and has weaned the heaviest calf on our place to date at 1010 lbs some years back. She also raised the heaviest and biggest scrotalled bull of last year’s sale going to Jeff Tucker of Central Butte. Some of the breeds best cow makers reside in Bolaro’s pedigree such as Shear Force, Black Joker, Goldmine, Bodybuilder to name a few. Bolaro has a 91 lbs birth weight with an actual weaning weight of 880 lbs. on Oct 2/13 (850 ADJ & 3.7 ADG). When you evaluate the bull, his EPD’s, pedigree, and the flexibility he will provide to a lot of red programs we think Bolaro is capable of doing some really great things.

Definitely one of my favorites. This bull exemplifies what we are trying to do in our breeding program. Presto is a loose made, nice tempered bull with loads of volume, hair and style. He will be one of the first sons to sell out of the 2011 high selling bull at McMillen’s MRL Outlaw 85X. Presto’s dam TSZ Sweet Dreams 302W is developing into one of our best. She is a maternal sister to 723A in this sale going back to our leading lady TSZ Beauty 7N who has really got things rolling for us these last years. Sweet Dreams has a top notch son working in Kincaid, SK for the Hawkins family and a daughter retained in our herd. She is moderate, stylish and with as good of feet and udder as we have on the place. She has been very consistent in producing top end calves for us and we have plans to flush her in the future. Presto puts it all together and with an 89 pound birth weight and an actual weaning weight of 830 lbs. on Oct. 2/13 (909 ADJ 205 with a WPDA of 4.39 and Index of 108). That’s slightly better than his sire with a CE # of 15.6 top 2% and BWT # in the top 1%. Don’t pass this youngster up! Homozygous Polled by Parentage DNA Tested Homozygous Black
