Welcome from Bouchard Livestock While touring the bull pens of the Southwest Showcase consignors we have been very impressed with the quality and development of the bulls on offer. Overall, top to bottom, as strong a group as these folks have ever offered. Within the respective animals on offer there are bulls to fit into lead-off purebred programs as well as a great offering of beef bulls that are candidates to work in front-end commercial herds. The Southwest Showcase has become a gathering spot to source herdbulls and a sale with great timing for many folks, allowing a bit more time for travel as there isn’t a sale every day later in March. Call any of the consignors to discuss this quality group of potential herdbulls. These breeders will definitely do their best to accommodate your herdsire needs and steer you in the right direction. If any of us at Bouchard Livestock can be of assistance please give us a call, we will do our best to be of service. Call any of our cell phones should you be unable to attend and require representation sale day. Hope to visit with you in Swift Current.

EPD EXPLANATION
EPDs are “Expected Progeny Differences”. They are a useful tool in selection. EPDs incorporate the individual animal with its averaged ancestry performance. EPDs do not compare across cattle breeds, they are individually based per breed. EPDs indicate a probable variance above or below breed average for that trait for a given bull’s progeny. Use them for guidance in the direction you want your herd to go. CANADIAN SIMMENTAL ASSOC SPRING 2015 BREED AVERAGES CE BW WW YW MCE MWW MILK CWT

We would like to say a big thank you to all our bidders and buyers over the years. We feel very fortunate to be working with such a progressive and reputable group of breeders, sales management, and customers. The cattle industry continues to be in a tremendous state, and looks to remain strong for years to come. No matter where the market is, the same principle holds true. Top quality cattle bring a premium over their counterparts. The easiest way to improve your calf crop is to invest in the best quality bulls available, and this decision will pay for itself over and over down the road. We are excited to offer you a set of bulls that we feel display the characteristics that we strive to produce. Deep-sided, wide-topped, easy keeping bulls that are structurally sound with great hair and quiet dispositions. We believe these qualities come from the strict criteria that we have always had for our cow herd of sound feet and leg structure, udder quality, and dispositions. We feel if you analyze our bull pen, these qualities are evident. They are developed with the future in mind. The weaning weights you see are with no creep feeding, so they are a good indication of their genetic potential. If you require any further information on the bulls, be sure to give us a call. The bulls are available for viewing any time and we look forward to seeing everyone at this year’s sale.

A big time herd bull prospect that we are very proud to offer. Huge-hipped, deep-sided, long-bodied and loose-made are all words to describe this outstanding individual. He demonstrates explosive rib shape, width over the top, is very free moving and stands on a wide base. A bull that ties it all together, both in genetics and phenotype. We are very impressed with these Bootlegger calves and used him heavily again last spring. This bull’s dam is a model female with a picture perfect udder and has been an excellent producer in her young career. This bull has unlimited potential and will have a big impact in the future.

We think this Amarillo son has herd bull written all over him. Long-bodied, loose hided, sound-structured and very fluid in his movement. He really has a strong presence to him that draws in your attention when you enter the pen. He has very strong performance EPD’s being in the top 15% for both WW and YW and is sure to add pounds to his calf crop the same way that his sire has done for us. The Amarillo sons are so consistent in type and kind, and were very well received in last year’s sale. This is the type of bull that will really be noticed on sale day, and more importantly his calves will really stand out down the road. If your next herd sire needs to have a proven and highly sought after cow family behind him, take a look here. He is an ET son of the Jacey 79W cow, who is a full sister to the mother of the great Captain Morgan bull. A full sibling to this bull sold in the 2015 Agribition sale as one of the high selling bred heifers for $14,000, which speaks to the quality and potential that this bull has. He has a ton of eye appeal, awesome hair, thickness throughout and that great dark red colour. Both on paper and in person he has a very promising future, take advantage of the opportunity! Here is another great son of Amarillo. He boasts a strong set of EPD’s, being in the top 20% CE, 35% BW, 35% WW, 25% YW and 20% MCE. The Amarillo calves have been everything we could have hoped for. The daughters are easy fleshing and broody, with ideal udders. The sons all have that same stout look about them from a very young age when they’re only a few weeks old, and mature into the type of bulls we want to raise for our bull customers. This bull fits that exact mold and will be a great asset for his new owner.

A very complete, dark red, strong-topped bull here with just an 82lb birth weight. He is a full brother by pedigree to the Lot 1 bull, as they are both sired by Bootlegger and out of full sisters. A real eye catching, calving ease prospect that is very clean through the shoulder, deep through the middle, and full through the hindquarter. It is rare to find a bull with such an attractive, smooth front end, yet very thick and stout in his make up. He ranks in the top 4% of the breed for CE and top 15% of the breed for BW EPD’s, along with having a moderate birth weight. His mother is a first calf heifer that did a great job here, and the whole cow family has ideal udders. We hold our first calf heifers to the same standards as the mature cows, and she certainly proved herself here. Homozygous Polled

This was one of our favourite bulls all summer in the pasture and continues to impress us each day. He is an early maturing, free moving bull, with a lot of natural thickness and testicle, from a big volume Red Cloud daughter. We love the soggy, easy fleshing look that the Amarillo calves have, and they are excellent-footed cattle. We calved out the first set of Amarillo daughters this year and they are broody females that are setting up very nice udders. He seems to be leaving both strong bulls and females, and we can already see the strong influence he is having.

Here is a bull that will demand your attention. Long-bodied, big-hipped, sound-structured with a ton of width over the top and great hair. His pedigree contains highly sought after genetics being an ET son of the Jacey 79W cow, who is a full sister to the mother of the record setting Captain Morgan bull. A full sibling to this bull sold in the 2015 Agribition sale as one of the high selling bred heifers for $14,000. There is a ton of high profile cows in this bull’s pedigree and it will surely yield great results for his new owner.

Welcome to our 7th Southwest Showcase Bull Sale. We would like to express our appreciation to all buyers and bidders of our bulls, past and present. We have worked to breed hardy trouble free cattle that work in our environment and believe very strongly in building around cow families that have proven they are superior. The bulls on offer are the result of 45 years of breeding and were selected from 140 born in 2015. We present them the way we would like to buy them – not overfed, no feet trimmed, semen tested and ready to breed cows. We stand behind our bulls, so if any problems arise please do not hesitate to contact us. We will have backup bulls available. We welcome your calls. The bulls are available at the ranch for viewing at any time. - Dean, Caroline, Amanda & Raeann Neitz

Here is Carlo, the King of our bull pen and one we are very proud to offer. He is long, deep, loose-made and thick in all the right places. Very structurally sound with a leg on every corner and big correct feet. Deep red in color, very, very docile and good testicular development adds to the total package. His dam is a big, powerful, easy fleshing cow with an awesome udder. She traces back to the 68D cow family. HWY 5 Tony has done everything right here and is pictured at 6 years of age after servicing a large group of cows. Daughters of HWY 5 Tony are quickly becoming some of our top producers and only because the number of them is building up in the herd is Carlo being offered. Heterozygous Polled

Once again the same characteristics in a goggle eyed, 3/8 Fleckvieh Tony son. He is an April calf that was the top performing calf at weaning. He should work well on cows of any color to add performance, style, milk and a blaze face. He has been DNA tested Homo Polled and diluter free which means all his calves will be polled and there will be no gray calves from black cows. His young dam, 99Z, is eye catching, clean-fronted and fully pigmented with a really good udder. She has earned her spot near the top with her first two productions. Our bulls are hand fed a bull-growing ration along with good grass hay. We try to have the bull gain 100lbs per month. Pushing them any harder than that affects their longevity and fertility. Most of our bulls will be less than 12 months of age at sale time so we will take the bulls home at our cost until they are semen tested. Our bulls are very fertile; we have had many of our bulls breeding cows at 12 months of age. It was a great day when we bought TRACKER from MRL. His dam has gone on to be an elite cow at McMillen’s where her calves top their bull sale. Nothing more can be said about Predator that hasn’t been said a thousand times before. Tracker is a very easy calving bull and once his progeny hit the ground they take off and develop into elite individuals. His first bull calf sold last year in this sale to Sunny Valley for $21,000. Once again thank you to the Libke family. His first daughter to sell sold at Simmsational 2015 for $20,500 to LC Ranch, Craig and Cody Hogg to enter their embryo program as an elite donor. Daughters sold to date have averaged $14,700.

Big time performance sire out of an elite donor cow. We will have his first calves this Spring and are very excited to see them develop.
CODE RED delivers a boat load of performance in a big, dark red, and very attractive package. Anyone who has ever seen him has been very impressed. We think he will work very well on our highly maternal cow herd.

This is a bull that anyone could use – he is the whole package. He’s wide, deep, big-testicled and very attractive. All the calves sired by the high selling Red Zone bull are so similar with their moderate birth weights and then going on to have lots of performance. The daughters are just as good as the bull calves and we can’t wait to get them into production. The dam, 61X, is a cow who when you see her you just love her. She is a cherry red, deep-bodied, big cow, and a super heavy milker. CRUSH was shown at Agribition where he was 3rd in class. Purebred breeders need to have a serious look at this calf; we think he is as good as any we have raised. Homozygous Polled

Here is a super candidate for a calving ease bull for your heifers. Sired by the easy calving High Voltage and with only a 75lb birth weight himself, we would say he is a sure thing. This big, attractive, dark red calf is out of a super, young Neil Carson cow that did a great job on her first calf. MEGA WATT has lots of performance and great carcass EPD’s. He’s in the top 10% of the breed for Rib Eye Area and in the top 4% for marbling.

39C has as much top, depth and capacity as any bull in the pen. The Red Zone cattle are so consistent. His Walk The Line dam is an excellent young black cow with a typical Walk The Line perfect udder. They are all great producers with nice tight udders and very small teats. If you are wondering why we keep writing about females in a bull sale catalogue, the answer is that we are focused very strongly on maternal traits in our herd. We feel that at the end of the day if you have a cow herd of easy calving, top producing and easy fleshing cows, then you are the cattle business for the long haul.

Here is a bull who is royally bred. Sired by the $59,000 Red Zone and out of a 12 year old cow who has produced as many show and sale cattle as any cow in our herd. She had three daughters go though Agribition sales and four retained in our herd. One of her daughters is X-T Red Utopia 60U who has won every major show in Eastern Canada multiple times. With the genetics he has on both sides of his pedigree, there is no guesswork on this soggy, thick-topped bull. As we are sitting here February 8th writing footnotes, it is +14oC. The bulls are deep-bodied, thick-topped and masculine, while the females are round-bodied with a big top and are so feminine-fronted. The dam, X-T Black Heroine 262U, is a cow that is right at the top end of our black cows. We are very excited about the potential of the group of bulls we have on offer this year and what they might accomplish for our customers. We were honored to receive the nod for Champion Pen of Bulls at the Medicine Hat Pen Show last December, against 33 incredible pens of bulls. The members of that pen of bulls will all sell at this sale. We have also decided to bring a couple of really good crossbred bulls to the sale for the first time. Our black bulls are a little younger than the reds this year, but overall, the group is very functional, and there should be bulls to fit most cattlemen’s needs. We never buy a bull without seeing his dam first, and she better be good, or the bull isn’t coming home with us. Cows are everything to us, and they have to be very functional because we don’t have the time (or barn!) to mess around with dopey calves or bad-uddered cows. We would be happy to show you around the ranch, but if you can’t come in person, be sure to check out our website www.boundaryranch.ca. All the most up-to-date information is available on the website, including videos, weights and scrotals, and every bull’s dam and sire are pictured, as well as many sibblings. Thank you to Bouchard Livestock for the excellent job they do managing the sale. Thanks to all the bidders and buyers who have supported our program in the past. We hope to see you all sale day.

59C is a feature for sure. So deep, wide, long, hairy, and very correct in his make-up. Not only is he easy on the eyes, his dam was a donor for Springcreek and Sunrise Simmentals where she has produced some great females. We will be flushing her ourselves this spring. Her first progeny here have not disappointed - a perfectuddered two year old Captain Morgan daughter and Full Throttle 59C. At 11 years old, Linne still has a great udder and is a moderateframed powerhouse. 59C’s sire, Full Throttle, has worked very well for us. His bull calves are powerful and attractive, daughters have ideal phenotype with good level udders and small teats. 59C should sire a great balance of performance and maternal traits in his progeny. Here is a showy, blazed face Combustible calf that we had on display at the MHPS. He is deepbodied, big-hipped, smooth, and clean in his front-end. His dam is a powerful, good-uddered Walk The Line daughter. We liked 207C a lot at a very young age, so much in fact, his dam was bred back the same way last spring. 44Z’s maternal sister is Renata 3T, a cow that entered our flush program last spring and had two daughters selected for Agribition sales over the years. 207C had the highest AWW and AYW of the black bulls and EPDs that reflect that, top 20% WW & 15%YW. This bull is also incredibly docile – our girls pet him all summer. Great phenotype, cow family, and numbers on this guy, and that coveted blazed face. Don’t pass him up! It’s pretty hard to find a bull with 32C’s calving ease numbers and awesome phenotype. With his massive hip and width, this moderate-framed “Rampage” son attracted a lot of attention at the stall at CWA and MHPS. He had an 85lb BW, a 278 day gestation, and EPDs in the top 5% & 15% for CE & BW, but also the highest ADG from WW to YW, so he still has some performance. His dam was always our favorite black bred and she sure didn’t disappoint with her first calf! We liked her so much, her dam was bred back the same way and had another very good daughter with a great udder. She has another sister with a son in the sale Lot 59. 32C hails from the amazing Sarah cow family which has produced numerous high selling bulls and lead-off heifer calves in the past few years. 32C is a pretty cool calf that could produce wicked crossbreds or purebred calves. We truly love our Red Enticer calves. It’s so difficult to find a bull that is capable of producing both top-end sons and daughters, but Red Enticer really hit the mark here. 143C is definitely a feature bull. We seriously considered keeping this guy for ourselves. He is so wide, and naturally thick, with great muscle but is also smooth-made and eye catching. He comes from the Abricot family, which has been a bull producing factory. There is huge performance on both sides of 143C pedigree, and it shows as he had the second highest AWW & AYW of the red bulls, second only to his paternal brother. His EPDs are in the top 15%WW, 5%YW, 25%MCE. His dam is another moderate-framed Walk The Line daughter with a good udder. Her full sister produced one of our top replacements as a two year old. A direct son of the backbone of our red program, Reggie 110R who entered our flush program last spring. At 11 years old, “old Reggie” still has an udder to drool over, perfect feet, and overall an ideal phenotype. She’s had many high selling sons over the years but her legacy is definitely her daughters (daughters with sons in the sale Lots 71 & 72. 161C is a dark red, superbalanced, Crosby son, that is very correct in his make-up. 126C is very long and wide, with lots of muscle that carries down and big time performance. He is also extremely docile, just like his momma. His dam, 8T, is a heavy-milking, powerful “Bravado” daughter that is super long and deep-bodied with a big hip. She is a direct daughter to Reggie 110R who is a donor for us. 126C has an incredible EPD profile, ranking in the top 35% or better for all major traits. He ranked second of the reds for Yearling ADG & 3rd WPDA. Dam: Boundary Reggie 8T

Sale Feature. 4C is exceptionally wide, long, has lots of volume, is dark red, and is clean-made. He has herd bull written all over him. 4C was a member of our Champion Pen of Bulls at the MHPS last fall. His dam is a powerful “Top Gun” female that at 8 years old, still has a good level udder and great feet. She has two very good “Red Bull” daughters in our herd that also have the type of udder that will last forever. One of them had a ¾ sister to 4C, which will be one of our top replacements this year. 840U has sons working for Mike Winnichyn and Dale Kuzio. Another son was a member of our pen of bulls at MHPS in 2014. 4C was one of the top performing red bulls and has EPDs in the top 35% CE, 10% WW and 10% YW. We really like the “Authority” calves we’ve seen. Semen in Canada is limited, so get your hands on one while you can! Homozygous Polled
