Transcon Welcomes You...
On behalf of the participants of the inaugural Western Harvest Simmental Female Sale, we at Transcon Livestock Corp would like to extend an invitation to you to attend this exciting new event. The procurement of this sale roots itself amongst a set of breeders who have developed great cooperative friendships within the Simmental cattle business. They are customers of each other, and to a degree, competitors to each other, but as mentioned, have a very strong realm of camaraderie. The largest group on offer will be from the Satchwell’s hugely reputable Virginia Ranch. This deeply-rooted herd has the luxury of allowing a fantastic set of Fullblood and Red Simmental replacement females to be offered to the public. To offer this many top end females is certain validation to the quality of this cowherd. Of course, these females are genetically the counterparts to the always highly sought after Virginia Ranch bullpen sold annually at Bull Spectrum. Jim, Gwen and AJ Smith’s Czech-Mate Livestock operation have notched themselves as one of the most successful breeding programs in the Simmental breed for about the last decade. The land base they work with combined with a philosophy of “less is more” permits this top set of bred heifers to be catalogued at the Western Harvest. Attesting further to operating an elite cowherd versus a large cowherd is the great success Czech-Mate has had marketing bulls in the past 10 Bull Spectrum sales. Bob Anderson and family operate Tymarc Simmentals, and I think could truthfully be called one of the better kept secrets in the Canadian Simmental business. By this, I mean they operate under an honestly humble demeanor but attain one of the nicest sets of Red Simmi cows in the nation. Their continued high quality, uniform set of bulls that sell at the Mountainview Bull Sale each March attests to that. For more than a decade, maybe closer to two, I have made an annual trip West over the Rocky Mountains to visit the good breeders in British Columbia, including Starwest Farms (formerly Starwest Simmentals). I have to thank the Warkentin’s and Stefanuik’s for their loyalty and the professional relationship we can count on from them. Not only do they headline the Fullblood segment of the Red Deer Bull Sale, the females they offer are excellent. They too have limitations as to how many can be kept in the herd with their land-base and have assembled an absolutely top-shelf Fullblood cowherd. This in turn has provided a position that allows them to offer “front-enders” such as these consigned to the Western Harvest. Langer Fleckvieh participate with fewer numbers than the rest but are coming off a “banner” year in 2013 selling females topping it off with the high selling female at the prestigious “Fleckvieh Equation”. Females such as those offered last season will exemplify their group here. Hannah Simmentals are consigning their two most complete bred heifers. They both put as many good things together phenotypically and genetically as any they will sell this fall. They are the best all around packages they can offer, one in red, the other in black. As we have extensive experience marketing cattle for the participants included we are happy to discuss the respective groups with you prior to your arrival sale day. If you aren’t able to personally attend the sale, feel free to use our knowledge of the offering to assist your bidding and buying needs by contacting us on our cell phones and using our free, trusted, experienced order-buying services. Regards, Jay Good Transcon Livestock Corp.

Full Fleckvieh. ‘Annie’ is stout, she’s functional and I know you’ll find she will fit into any breeding program. She has a maternal brother working at Craigmyle Colony breeding their papered fullblood cows. ‘Annie’ is one of two sale heifers bred to our new herdsire Starwest Bodine. He’s a son of the $50,000 Spitfire. When we saw Bodine at the Fullbood Perfection sale last fall, I knew we had to bring him home. He has natural muscling, good feet, a nice small head, and he could walk out on the cement in the barn – which most bulls can’t do. This should be a good mating.

Annabelle was the fifth heaviest heifer out of 50 weaned heifers last fall (her actual weaning weight was 815 lbs – not bad out of a first calver). Lot 11) VIRS 328A & Lot 12) VIRS 368A :: Full Fleckvieh. Here at Virginia Ranch we don’t breed to get polled cattle. But in the past we have purchased a few polled animals, and always bred the polled females to horned bulls; when the calf comes out polled, they are usually good. A good example are these two polled Romano daughters. Their mothers are thick and have great udders. So if you want to breed them back to polled bulls, the results should be very favorable for the pocketbook.

Full Fleckvieh. ‘Antonia’ is one sweet moderate framed heifer. She is the only Canyon bred progeny in the sale this year. Her sire, Canyon has really outdone himself; the commercial cowboys love his sons; seven of them sold for an average of $7,060 – pretty good for a bull that is noted to be a calving ease heifer bull. Our partner, Randy Ward bought Antonia’s dam ‘Double Bar D Flanna 67Y’ as an open heifer at the Fullblood Perfection sale for $14,000. There was a lot of talk about this heifer prior to the sale. And subsequently there was a lot of bidding going on by many big fleck breeders. So dig deep here, Antonia could be the one. NOTE: Flanna has a whopping good bull calf out of Romano in the bull pen – watch for him at the 2015 Spectrum Bull sale. FULLBLOOD

Full Fleckvieh. Last of the fullbloods we have on offer this year, but far from least! Look at this cute, smaller framed heifer, you just want to give her a big hug! Allison’s dam was bought at the 2012 Southern Alberta Round Up Sale from MI Simmentals. She goes back the bull Shawacres Monster 26M; a bull that I really admired. I watched Mike Imler & Bill Rothel sell some big powerful heifers at past Round Up sales from this bull. So have a good, long look at Allison, she is a very maternal looking young female. Here is something special. Trying to do something different, we flushed the famous IPU Red Pocahontas 52N cow to the old bull ER Red Deck 639D. People said to me, “Hope for females, as they should be good”. I think Annessa is exactly that! She has length of spine, big feet, rib volume, has depth and power. Our original plan was to keep Adalyn, but with starting a new prestigious sale, we were committed to bringing some of our best for this inaugural event. Adalyn maybe isn’t the most powerful looking heifer, but boy in my opinion, she sure has that “Cow Look”! If you want fertility, then these are the type of females to buy. Chad & Michelle Beagle (Beagle Simmentals) [watch this couple, they are up & coming good Simmental breeders], bought Adalyn’s full sister last year. She had the misfortune of her slipping her calf after the sale, (I back my program) and I tried to buy her back, but Chad declined. Our lead off heifer was very popular with visitors this year! Sired by the Denver champion, STF Dominance, who in our minds, had the best sire group at the Remington dispersal a few years ago. Her dam is the amazing Smarty Pants, who herself was a high seller at that same sale going for $26,000 to Bouchard Livestock. We were lucky enough to purchase a few embryos from this mating at the sale and are very happy we did. 317A’s full brother will headline our bull sale in March, he is outstanding. Hot Pants is a maternal sister to the high selling bull from Maxwell Simmentals this past spring, NUG Royal Red selling for $79,000 to Meadow Acres & Bohrson Marketing. Hot Pants is what we strive to produce – so deep in her rib shape, longbodied, with that great cherry red color, and setting up a great udder - all in a homo polled package. We AI’d her to the $60,000 Wheatland Circuit Breaker bull, but preg-checking says she is safe the next cycle to our new herd bull, Outlaw Black Hawk. He has some very good and unique genetics – the resulting calf should be very interesting! We had to save a Lady 202S daughter for the first Western Harvest Sale. Lady A is sired by Crockett whose daughters are known to be very complete and profitable. The Lady 202S daughters are all beautiful females with tremendous depth and awesome udders, always pasture favorites and sale highlights. Check out Lot 57 from Starwest, she was in-dam when they purchased her mother at the National Trust sale in Manitoba. Lady A has the extra length that Crockett provides, and she gets her incredible feminine look from her amazing dam. We have sold 4 full brothers in our last 2 bull sales with one being a high seller at $13,000 to Homestead T in Manitoba. 321A’s service to the Wheatland Circuit Breaker bull makes her extremely desirable – the genetic combination alone, should be very powerful and exciting! Full Fleckvieh. We have held nothing back for our first Western Harvest Sale. Angel has been a favorite on our farm from day one. She stems from great fleckvieh genetics. Her dam, Double Bar D Barbl, produced the high selling calf at the 2011 National Trust sale going to Tryon Simmentals. Spitfire 20X has sired calves that have gone on to stand as leading herd bulls and front pasture females. This mating has real promise. If you like them powerful and bred to perform, Angel is this perfect fit for you. Bred to Balboa 40U - 16Apr14 Preg checked safe

She’s packing the pounds into a very well balanced, eye-appealing package. This heifer moves well and looks to have the makings of a great foundational female. We simply cannot say enough about this girl; she is the real deal. Bred to Crossroad Radium 798U - 10Apr14 Service Sire: Radium Preg checked safe
