Transcon Welcomes You... This is the sophomore edition of the Western Harvest and I can assure you it has an elevated level of quality from last year’s inaugural debut. The Virginia Ranch group will be one of the largest offered by any one producer throughout the fall Simmental female run. They have established themselves as one of the leading Fullblood Simmental herds on the continent. But let’s not allow that comment to overshadow the Purebred Simmental herd, which in my opinion, has risen to the quality level of the Fullblood segment at Virginia Ranch. These females are the sister mates to their brothers that sold at Bull Spectrum. The Smith’s of Czech-Mate fame have also risen to a highly reputable operation who not only have built a fantastic herd of cattle but operate with a demeanor that gives them huge popularity among their fellow producers. Look for some standout “Horizon” daughters in this group. Like Virginia Ranch, Czech-Mate is a key component to the Bull Spectrum sale. The Anderson family’s Tymarc Simmentals specializes in producing Red Simmentals. The Tymarc cattle have gone on to work extremely well for their new owners and are coming off a strong showing at the first Western Harvest sale. They also annually bring the largest string of Simmentals to the Mountainview Bull Sale, also held here in Innisfail. Starwest Farms of Chilliwack, British Columbia have spared no expense in developing a premiere herd of Fullblood Simmentals and this investment is showing in spades. They have, in recent years, been the high-averaging string at the Red Deer Bull Sale, also having the high seller there last March for $33,000! As a feature that will stand alongside their Fullblood offering, is a Red Simmi bred heifer that will be one of the best to sell all fall. She comes with a pedigree of royalty, being a member of the famous “202S” cow family (the former CWA Grand Champion). Langer Fleckvieh Simmentals have now been operating for a good number of years and take genetics very seriously. These are great people who will provide a product to the public with a very intentional genetic roadmap. Wade Hannah is a real nice young gentleman who has jumped out and invested heavily in this great breed to create his operation, Hannah Simmentals. They will bring a good pair of females to this sale again that will be ready to work for their new owners. The “Outlaw”, Brad Dundas, has been added to the Western Harvest roster this year. Outlaw Cattle Co. is becoming well known for their showring successes but more so for the achievements in the sale ring! Outlaw, like Tymarc, is a key component to the Mountainview Bull Sale, and has had as many high sellers there as anyone! Jay Good purchased Stoney for us last spring from the Lone Stone Bull sale – he was the high selling fullblood bull sold that day. We were very pleased when he came off the trailer! He is very athletic, has great feet, is structurally correct, and breeds like a rabbit! He bred 30 heifers and was a clean-up bull for some cows after he was pulled from the heifer pen. Usher was the high selling black bull at the Westway Farms/Deeg bull sale this past spring. I just love this bull. He is deep bodied, smooth shouldered, wide topped, and is extremely thick from behind. He bred all of our Red factor heifers, all of our first and second calving purebred cows, and then was turned out later as a clean-up bull with some Fullblood cows. He is also a great breeding bull who kept his condition well.

Radison’s first calf crop here at Virginia Ranch looks great! 90% of his calves are dark red just like himself. He is a very easy calving herdsire. His bull calves (14 on cows and heifers) averaged a 92.6lb birth weigh; his heifer calves averaged 89.2lbs at birth. We were very disappointed last August (2014) when we discovered Radison had stifled himself while fighting with other bulls. Fortunately, we were able to draw semen on him.

Full Fleckvieh - It’s been a number of years since we have sold a Choice Lot. I would be proud to take either of these heifers back home. Both come from very productive cows. ‘Margaritas’ mother was the high selling heifer at the 2011 Fleckvieh Equation sale. She had twin bull calves that first year; both made it into the bullpen. One sold to Bill Christie & Frances Hargrave of Brooks, Alberta and the other sold to DFM Simmentals of Lomond, Alberta. Her second bull calf (full brother to Margarita) was our second high selling bull at the 2014 Spectrum Bull sale – he was purchased by Jeff McRuer of Boissevain, Manitoba. Her third calf is Margarita and her last calf is a heifer, which in my books, is the top heifer in the 2015 heifer group of 70 open females.

Full Fleckvieh - Daiquiri’s dam is the perfect cow. A tremendous udder, great feet and is extremely easy to handle. She is coming 11 years old, and with the exception of one year, she has calved in January of every year. She has a son at Sandy Walstrom’s of Stettler, Alberta and another at Barry Taylor’s of Didsbury, Alberta. She has had three Romano daughters, two of which are working at Virginia Ranch (one is the dam to Lot 2). Her third Romano daughter was the high selling bred heifer at the 2012 Cowarama sale – she was purchased by Vaughn Gibbons of Stephensville, Ontario for $17,000.

Her dam is one of our best cows. We pulled a backwards calf out of her this past calving season, and she, unfortunately, came in open this fall, so we are setting her up to flush in October. Bridget is one I should be keeping, however, I strongly believe you have to consign some top notch heifers! She has a full brother working at DFM Simmentals of Lomond, Alberta and also has siblings at MI Simmentals of Okotoks, Alberta; Mullen Land & Cattle Co of Strathmore, Alberta; Chuck Houston of Big Valley, Alberta. When Todd Collins from Oakview phoned to see if we would be interested in buying a semen pack on 494B (one of Wheatland’s high sellers at $46,500), we jumped at the chance! In our mind he combines 2 of the breed’s great cows –STF Onyx and Wheatland Lady 902J (his dam is also the dam of High Voltage – Circuit Breaker’s sire!). Just a March born calf, he froze semen his first try at just 13 months and Todd said he went out and bred like an old herd bull. We are confident in Current Affair’s ability to sire calves that will arrive easy and be impressive as they continue to grow. This is the flush mate to the six Soda Pop heifers we sold last fall that created so much interest where ever they went. 14B was the high selling Simmental at the Mtn. View Bull Sale for Outlaw Cattle Co. this past spring to Labatte Simmentals. Barry has told us he really liked how this young bull bred and kept his shape through summer. We kept semen on 14B to incorporate even more of his awesome dam’s influence – the Cream Soda cow is a female who has been admired by many cattlemen, she is good! We believe Soda Pop 14B will calve easily and his calves will be very desirable. We used him on many of our own cows and heifers and we are real excited to see the outcome.

Performance heifer here – Horizon has sired some of the top end cattle the last few years in every herd he has been utilized in! I absolutely love this young heifer – not overly large in stature, but she has great width over her back, is long bodied with a beautiful head and neck extension. Sired by Specialist, you can count on her having a terrific udder. Her dam was our pick at the Majestic dispersal sale 2 years ago, she is a JF Milestone daughter from the famous Candace cow family (a cornerstone for Jimmy Joe). We couldn’t get the right picture of her dam, but trust me she is very good and is raising another good top performing heifer for us this year. Badger was our pick of the Premium Beef Bull Sale in Manitoba. I wasn’t the only one to have this fellow from the Workman’s marked in the catalogue, but when all was said and done, we brought home a new heifer bull. He went to work in the heifer pen this past spring with enthusiasm! We couldn’t be happier with his muscling, quiet demeanor, deep dark red color, and his numbers. Badger had a nice 74lb birthweight of his own and is ranked in the top 1% for CE, top 3% for BWT and top 1% for MCE, making him a heifer specialist. With calving right around the corner, we’re excited to see the calves this string of Tymarc heifers will give their new owners.

Mistress 24B will sure catch your eye as she did this summer by visitors who toured the pasture. Sired by the $75,000 high selling KWA FLYF Red Mountain bull that left a great group of calves here at Outlaw. Her dam is a solid red Wallbanger daughter that came from a group of breds I purchased from Tessier Simmentals and what a group they were. All my offering’s dams are all from this group. 93Z has a bright future, with 24B being her first calf and the job she did on her to her bull calf sired by Wheatland Circuit Breaker this year - one word - WOW. Her bull calf weaned off at 940lbs Sept 16. Mistress 24B is a heifer I aim to produce, phenotypically and genetically. She is long-bodied, deepribbed, big-square-hipped, great red color and looking to set up a trouble-free udder. To top it all off, she was hand bred to my walking bull Wheatland Circuit Breaker. The way these Circuit Breaker calves look and grow, its hard parting with this heifer but gives me excitement to offer her and for her to go on and make a impact in her new owner’s herd.

5B is easy to find in the pen or even out in pasture. A heifer that catches your with how much power, shape and style she has. TERMS - The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par at sale location. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. Transcon Livestock Corp. reserves the right to require a certified cheque as settlement before releasing any sale cattle. Should any purchaser fail to settle for his purchase Transcon Livestock Corp. reserves full power to resell the animal to the best advantage either publicly or privately, without further notice. Any loss arising from such resale together with keep and all other expenses shall be payable by the defaulter. All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale before any cattle will be released. BID - Every animal consigned to the sale must be sold by auction. No private sales will be allowed except as otherwise provided for in the terms and conditions. No by-bidding will be permitted. Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder. SALES TAXES – Applicable sales taxes will be charged on semen, embryos and trucking fees (if listed), respective to the home province of the buyer, not the seller. DISPUTES - In cases of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final. PURCHASER’S RISK - Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold.
