about us
“Anyone who lives in the area is aware of the energy that emanates from FAC (with) adventurous programming and visionary expansion. The artist-in-residence studio program now engages with local, national and international artists across many disciplines, and the impact is palpable in the exhibition program and in the general level of liveliness and enthusiasm. The exciting concert program and the always lively and challenging exhibitions feed the sense of vibrancy.” TED SNELL, SCOOP HOMES AND ART – ARTIST INSIDER, AUTUMN, 2014 2 Image: Chicks On Speed Scream, April 2014. we don’t need a map
a martu experience of the western desert
“We don’t need a map is an explosion of cultural production. It is like stepping into another world. Through paint, drawing, moving image, installation and photography, audiences are teleported, enveloped by the dusty red, demanding and mesmerising environment that is Martu country.”

bali: return economy
“Bali: Return Economy embodies the kind of robust, friendly banter that is swapped between good neighbours. And unlike the tourist traffic, it is a two-way flow... The exhibition is a tribute by curators Ric Spencer and Chris Hill to 26 Balinese and WA artists whose work – from video art to classic-style wayang paintings and contemporary sculpture – goes unnoticed by resort-bound tourists.” VICTORIA LAURIE, THE AUSTRALIAN. “My time at FAC granted me much more than I could have imagined. Though I was here only one month, I was given the encouragement, resources and support that granted me with a truly unique experience - One that will continue to elevate my art practice even after I return to the US. Not to mention that, by being here, I was fortunate enough to become acquainted with such wonderful artists and amazing artworks / art practices and people who support art with sincere passion. I hope to stay in touch with all of you and offer my support to the Art Centre in the years to come. This residency and how it is run / what it offers has set the bar quite high. LACEY MCKINNEY, ARTIST, MAY 2013

“The unusual collaboration between a pop singer, beatboxer and jazz arranger is what audiences have come to expect from the Soft Soft Loud concert series, thanks to the vision of artistic director Matthew Hoy who prioritises the collaborative nature of chamber music above the restrictions of “genre”. The breadth and purity of sound quality ... was something a producer in a recording studio might spend hours trying to manufacture. And we were experiencing it live, with the emotional resonance that happens between audience and performers when chamber music is at its best.” ROSALIND APPLEBY, THE WEST AUSTRALIAN, MARCH 2015
