undertow PRESENTED IN ASSOCIATION WITH PERTH FESTIVAL Flanked by deep waters, Australia’s connection with the coast is complex and multilayered. From narratives of the beginning of time, to our collective imaginings of the future, the oceans that surround our island continent and the oceans and seas of our global community are sites of tradition, transformation, transience, terror and turmoil. Undertow explores the relationships we have with the oceans and seas, everchanging bodies of water in constant flux, as places of arrival and departure, places of promise, but also of betrayal, bringing together artists working in a range of ways, from largeformat cyanotypes, to neon, sculpture, installation and filmic work.

revealed market The Revealed WA Aboriginal Art Market is back from Friday 27 – Sunday 29 May, coinciding with National Reconciliation Week. Due to ongoing travel restrictions across Western Australia, the Revealed Art Market will once again be held as an online event in 2022 – meaning savvy arts buyers all over Australia have the chance to start or add to their collections. The Revealed Market was conceived to provide an ethical, direct avenue of purchasing art by WA Aboriginal artists, all in one place, with 100% of sales returned to the artists. It’s the only event of its kind where all remote and regional WA art centres are invited to take part, alongside selected independent artists. Whether you’re a first-time buyer or an established collector, the Revealed Market caters for all budgets and tastes – showcasing new artists alongside senior names in a range of mediums including paintings, textiles, carved artefacts, homewares, prints, clothing, ceramics, jewellery and more. Celebrate and support WA Aboriginal Artists by visiting revealed.net.au. Register your details for exclusive first access to the market.

YABINI KICKETT STUDIO ARTIST + CURATOR NIH! YEYI YORGA WAANGKINY Yabini Kickett is a descendant of the Kickett and Hayden families of the Bibulmun/Nyoongar Nation. Growing up with an artist and poet mother, as well as a photographer and land conservationist father, her practice is heavily rooted in language, endemic plants, family, totemic relations and found objects from Country. Yabini had always shown an interest in visual arts. During her childhood she and her sister Emily-Jane would often go bush with their parents in search of native orchids, which now feature in her work and have both personal and cultural impotance. In late 2017 Yabini participated in the National Indigenous Arts Leadership program at the National Gallery, fostering lasting relationships and encouraging her to pursue working within visual arts. Currently Yabini is experimenting with ceramics, textiles, and found objects, with a focus on animal remains from hunting and road kill. The resulting works are often about place and the solastalgia associated with the destruction of Country.
