STORY WRITING

A variety of fiction and nonfiction genres will be the focus during this session. They will progress into genre writing and learn how each genre has its own set of particular rules that drives character creation, setting, and plot. Students will learn to write the opinion essay, which focuses on developing a student’s ability to support a stated position in accordance to the common core curriculum. Students will write three to five paragraph essays, which is the structure favored by school teachers. We have teamed up with professional skateboarding legend, Jordan Richter to provide a world class skateboarding camp program. The Jordan Richter Skateboarding Academy teaches basic fundamentals of skateboarding by creating challenging and exciting lesson plans that make learning to skateboard fun, safe and easy. Each lesson plan is tailored to fit each level of rider; whether one is a beginner or an expert skater. Over the last million years, the natural beauty of Fremont has been shaped by the Hayward Fault. In association with the USGS, Math Science Nucleus instructors will lead these tours and expose the science and beauty of the fault. One of 10 active faults in the world creeping at 5 mm/year. The tour takes place at Central Park and explores faulting effects in both natural and urban environments. View the floor that reveals dramatic evidence of this fault activity. Register by 4 p.m. on October 12 to participate in Draft Day at IRCC on October 13. All registered players are required to attend Draft Day at their designated time. There will be one 1-hour practice every week that may rotate between T-Th. Times vary between 5 and 9 p.m. The practice schedule will be available after Nov. 2nd. Games will be on Saturday’s and may play at Irvington Community Center or Horner Jr. High School. If necessary, some games will be on Sunday. Volunteer parent coaches are needed-call (510) 494-4334. A $10 per class withdrawal fee will be deducted from your refund. Please allow up to four weeks for receipt of refund by check. TRANSFER POLICY Transfers are allowed up to three business days prior to the start of the class. There is no charge for this service. CANCELLATIONS The Community Services Department reserves the right to cancel a class for any reasonable cause. Should this happen, your fee will be refunded in full or you may transfer to any open class. NON-RESIDENT FEES For persons not residing in Fremont, the fee is $5 in addition to the published fee per class. SENIOR CITIZEN DISCOUNT Seniors (Ages 60+) receive a 10% discount on all classes except those designated for seniors. Requests for withdrawals/transfers must be made in writing via email, fax, in person, or our online form.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE The City of Fremont and many local business and organizations have funded a grant program, which provides financial assistance for Fremont Residents. For information regarding eligibility for reduced fees, please call (510) 494-4300. All requests are kept confidential. Should you or your business wish to contribute to this scholarship program, call (510) 494-4300. Donations are tax deductible.
