RECREATION SERVICES UPDATE Dear Fremont Families, We hope you and your family are all doing well, staying safe and continuing to adapt to the latest guidelines and information on COVID-19. During this unprecedented time, we are closely tracking the developments regarding the shelter-in-place order, and over the past three months have cancelled winter and spring programs and our summer special events summer concerts and park movie nights. We also closed many of our recreation facilities, and most recently determined that we are not opening Aqua Adventure Waterpark. Our team has been working diligently with other cities in Alameda County, the County Public Health Department, and industry professionals to revise our entire 2020 Summer Camp Program. Alameda County Public Health Department (ACPHD) released detailed guidelines to operate summer camps in our county. The City of Fremont is offering a 7-week camp program which includes a three week session beginning July 6, a second three week session that starts July 27, and a 1-week session on August 17th. Camps offered are for children ages 5 to 12 years. Camps include: Golf, Art Explorers, Cooking Round the World, Adventure at Ardenwood, Basketball, Play-Well TEKnologies, Code for Fun, Sports Jam, Mad Science, Hit the Stage Like a Performing Star, Tennis, Sunnyside, Lakeside, and Aqua Camp.
The following changes have been implemented here at the City of Fremont to meet the Alameda County Public Health Department Summer Camp guidelines: • NEW Camp Pods – no more than 12 campers will be in each camp group (social bubble) and they will remain together for 3 weeks
• Mandatory Health Screenings – all campers and staff will be screened each morning • Expanded Outdoor Activities – camp check-in and activities throughout the day will occur outdoors to allow for more fresh air
• Additional Cleaning & Sanitizing Procedures – cleaning and sanitizing will occur throughout the day and handwashing will be required
• Expanded Staff Safety Training – beyond our standard annual training, all camp staff will attend Covid-19 Safety Training
Read the full plan at
Fremont.gov/ SummerCamps
• Development of a Summer Covid-19 Safety Plan – this plan outlines how each camp will operate and follow all industry and ACPHD guidelines
Summer camps are a tradition for many children. Interaction with other children, engaging in outdoor play, and learning is an important part of every summer. The safety of our campers and staff is our highest priority and the City of Fremont strives every day to earn the trust and loyalty of Fremont families as the premier summer camp provider. We are currently offering both virtual recreation programs and traditional Summer Camps. We are committed to working with the ACPHD and our partners to bring you and your family the best and safest recreation programs possible. As we transition into fall, we will provide as many services, facilities, and programs as the ACPHD health order allows. Our website is the best way to be kept up-to-date or you may call our office at (510) 494-4330.
Warmest regards & we hope to see your children at camp this summer. Suzanne Wolf Director of Community Services
