The 45 year journey... An affair with French Wine Ross Duke celebrates a life long passion
t seems like only yesterday when I began my romp through the vineyards of France. So 45 years of visiting and shipping wines from 'La Belle France' seems incredible. Well, I can tell you all that I have enjoyed every minute of it and in the process I have met some wonderful people and tasted many great wines. I have not confined myself to just Burgundy as you all know but Bourgogne has a special slot in my heart. Over the years I have also gone through two and up to three generations at some Domains and witnessed many families growing in vast numbers. So I wish to celebrate this important occasion with all of you, our valued and supportive clients. To this end I have chosen a range of wines to offer you AND costed at a very special THANK YOU (Merci) price. I have tried to make it a balanced selection from many of my favourite regions, wines and growers. Well it all started in 1970 but my first trip to France was is 1976. Champagne was the first stop then on to the Loire valley then down to Bordeaux. We took a left turn and headed for the South East of France through Chateauneuf du Pape then up through the Rhone and on to Burgundy. After a thorough examination of the Cote d’Or we headed up to Alsace to finish the tour. This all took between 4 to 5 weeks and how many wines we tasted was impossible to count BUT what an experience. I was bitten by a very large bug and could not wait to be bitten year after year amounting to 45 years today. Thank you most sincerely for all the business you have bestowed upon us for such a long time with many customers buying for 20, 25 & 35+ years. If I had the opportunity of doing this all again I would be ever so, so delighted.
With much appreciation,
Yours Ross, Vic, Bev, Sarah and Eve

Charles Baur 2010 Cuvée Charles Riesling 'Vieilles Vignes' Gold Medal An austere, classic Alsace Riesling. Dry with the high acid characteristic of 2010 only just starting to come out of its shell. Definitely food wine and capable of bottle development for five or six years. Great purity with a slightly saline quality. Was $27.00 Merci $21.60 Code: 9285 Charles Baur 2012 Gewurtztraminer Here we have aromas of rosé, lychee and candied fruit. There is a little natural sugar retained and the wine is generously round on the palate. Delightful as an aperitif or with foie gras, spicy foods and even deserts. Was $31.00 Merci $24.80 Code: 2463 Charles Baur Crémant d'Alsace This sparkling white wine is a blend of Pinot Blanc, Auxerrois and Chardonnay. It offers a bouquet of white fruits (pear and apple), white flowers and melon. On the palate the wine is fresh, delicate and well balanced. It is delightful as an aperitif or with desserts. A lovely, fine effervescent methode Champenois. Was $28.75 Merci $23.00 Code: 2360
“Ross – congratulations on 45 years of service to the wine drinkers of Australia and as a customer over many of those years, thank you. I have enjoyed wines imported by you from well known French winemakers but you have also introduced me to outstanding wines from makers still to build a reputation. I look forward to your continuing guidance in the pleasures of French wine.” - ROSS GRANT | NSW (Valued customer of 25+ years)

HAMPAGNE Montagne de Reims (Mountain of Reims) Eric Rodez NV 'Cuvée des Crayeres' Grand Cru A blend of 40% Chardonnay and 60% Pinot Noir, from 50% 2009 and many older reserve wines. 25% is matured in small oak and 80% undergoes malo-lactic fermentation. A feature of Eric's wines is the intense, minute persistent mousse. Always gently foaming with a tiny bead. Chalk and white flowers on the nose, lovely citrus and red fruits on the long palate. Powerful and complex but still light on its feet – this is a wonderful introduction to the Rodez style. Dosage is a low 5g/litre. Was $74.00 Merci $59.20 Code: T3530
Eric Rodez NV Zero Dosage Grand Cru 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay from a base of 2006 and reserve wines from 2005, 2004 and 2002. Here we see the opulence of specially created reserve wines in juxtaposition with fine grain acidity and minerality. The subtle use of oak and the blocking of the malo-lactic are carefully orchestrated to produce a stunning Champagne. Older base wines and longer ageing on lees gives this wine richness and complexity which are held in check with zero dosage. Was $82.80 Merci $66.20 Code: 2312 Jean Vesselle 'Oeil de Perdrix' Rosé Grand Cru 100% Pinot Noir from 2011 base. This cuvée is a re-discovery of a traditional rosé style. The story goes that every time a new press is installed in the winery, some special bottles of Champagne are buried under the concrete. When Delphine Vesselle’s father unearthed bottles that his grand father buried during their last press upgrade, they were amazed to find this amazing pale rosé style. Checking back through the archives they discovered that this was made from very ripe low yielding Pinot Noir which was pressed very slowly so as to extract and keep the pink colour. Utterly delighted by this style, Delphine has continued the tradition of this authentic cuvée. 100% Pinot Noir with a dosage of 7g/litre. Colour is a gentle pale salmon, hints of smoke and red fruits, apple and cherries. An elegant aperitif style. Finally back in stock after a few years absence. Was $59.80 Merci $47.80 Code: 3434

Francis Boulard 2006 Millesime Extra Brut 50% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir and 20% Pinot Meunier. Average vine age is 30 years old and this shows on a complex and intense palate. This cuveé is now fully vinified and matured in oak barrels. Powerful and unctuous, complex smoke and spice aromas, palate full of white fruits and brioche. Mousse is tiny and persistent. The quality of the Chardonnay speaks strongly here – chalk and spice, minerals and citrus – lovely length and perfect balance. Whereas the 2005 of this was all about red fruits and weight, the 2006 shows more minerals and floral aspects. Dosage is now down to 3g/litre. We sold out of this last year but managed to grab a few last remaining cases. Thank you Francis! Stunning wine. Was $75.90 Merci $60.70 Code: 4233
Francis Boulard 'Les Murgiers' Blanc de Noirs Extra Brut 70% Pinot Meunier, 30% Pinot Noir, with reserve wines aged in oak barrels. 2009 and older reserve wines from 2007 and 2008 – all great years in the Champagne region. This is a new cuvée for Francis and it certainly shows his attention to detail. Super fine mousse, lovely aromas of white fruits with red fruits and spice on the palate. Dosage is just on extra-brut at 5g/litre. Great purity and length with the subtle oak integration adding nice complexity. This cuvée gets better and better each year. The super fine mousse and finesse are hallmarks of this exceptional wine. Was $69.40 Merci $55.50 Code: T3494 Henriet-Bazin Blanc de Noirs Extra Brut Grand Cru 100% Verzenay Pinot Noir entirely from the great 2008 vintage dosaged at 5g/litre. Now we see more minerals, tighter structure, vivacity and subtle acidity. The red fruits are less dominant and we see more chalk and hints of citrus. This is a 'one off' special cuvée. For the next incarnation of this wine – they will repeat the entire process again. It may be a Blanc de Blancs next time or? Authentic, rare and stunning. Was $75.00 Merci $60.00 Code: T4229
“To the 'Grand Cru of Wine Merchants'. Congratulations on 45 years of bringing good taste to us philistines. (I take it that we celebrate 45 years in case 50 is too long for some of us frail elderly!) Thank you for enticing me away from the sterile snobbery of Bordeaux so many decades ago, to the magic of Burgundy. It has been a fascinating journey: from 'Les Grands Jours de Bourgogne', where I slurped Richebourg and La Romanée while you worked selecting the Bourgognes for the punters at home. You have introduced me to many great wines, and to many great people. To your good friend the Marquis D’Angerville, as refined as his Volnays and of course Jean Marie Fourrier, the passionate young man who seems the future of Burgundy. And many others. May the next 45 years be as much fun!” - DR. ZOLTAN OKAYLI | VIC (Valued customer of 30+ years) Let's celebrate 45 years!

Vallée de la Marne (Marne Valley) Tarlant NV Zero Brut Nature Blend of 1/3 each of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, from 2007 and reserve wines with no added dosage. An intense aromatic style, with hints of grapefruit, minerals, smoke and real purity. There is honey and brioche on a very very long palate. Very approachable and just so perfectly balanced. The mousse is ultra-fine and persistent. Has amazing richness with weight and complexity and in a masked line up it is difficult to detect that this is a Brut Zero. Extended lees aging – nearly five years – is a feature of this wine – giving it creaminess and roundness. Five years on lees is unheard of for a non vintage base cuvée! Critics agree that this is the ‘benchmark’ Brut Zero. This single cuvée makes up more than 75% of the total Tarlant production – massively popular! Regularly acclaimed as being a perfect food match and features in many Michelin starred restaurants. Was $69.50 Merci $55.60 Code: T3535 Marc Hebrart Cuvée Rosé N.V. 1er Cru 50% Chardonnay from Mareuil-sur-Ay, and the balance being Pinot Noir from 2010 and 2009 from Mareuil-sur-Ay. This rosé is made by addition of 10% red wine from Mareuil-sur-Ay – from the 2009 vintage which has been aged in small oak barriques. Sour cherries and spice in abundance – toasty candied fruits aromas – fine mousse with lovely length. A delightful pink! Dosage 7.5g/litre. Was $58.65 Merci $46.90 Code: 5722
“Ross Duke the untitled Duke of Burgundy He is truly a lucky man much loved by his family and friends. When one first meets Ross he may appear like an end of season ashed goats cheese, Burgundy of course, a little crusty on the outside but once you break thru a more generous and accommodating person would be difficult to encounter. His love of Burgundy and oeuf is a life time passion. Over the years Ross has introduced myself and many others to things he loves, the wines of Burgundy. He has shared his deep personal relationships with the Burgundy houses Chavy, D'Angerville, Fourrier, Amiot, Clos des Lambrays and so many more, each year cementing old relationships and discovering new wine makers. There is perhaps a darker side to Ross, ostensibly a Burgundophile, at night he may secretly wear the hat of a Champonista. Ross thank you for the opportunity to call you a friend. Bev and Frank.” - DR. FRANK TOMLINSON | QLD (Valued customer of 30+ years) Let's celebrate 45 years!

Gaston Chiquet NV Brut Tradition – Nobel Banquet label A most prestigious event 'The Nobel Banquet' commenced in 1969 in Oslo, the home of the Nobel Peace prize. This cuvée tradition was selected to be served at last years Banquet, 2013. A blend of 80% 2010 and older reserve wines. 35% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Noir and 45% Pinot Meunier with a dosage of 8gm/litre. This is a delightfully round and balanced cuvée with a persistent and elegant mousse. Colour is a straw gold, aromas of brioche and apple leading to a complex and unctuous palate, no doubt enriched by the quality Pinot Meunier component. Always an approachable rounder style and perfect as an aperitif or with any seafood or white meat. As an entry level wine, this is one of the very best on the market. We see some real elegance, purity and sophistication with real length. 2010 will be a classic vintage and any wines based on this vintage will reveal some great elegance and finesse with fine grained acidity. Corks are dense Mytik – and the wines handle further aging in the cellar extremely well. Was $64.40 Merci $51.50 Code: 3417
Gaston Chiquet 2004 Millésime 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay with a dosage of 8gm/litre from the villages of Hautvillers, Dizy and Mareuil-sur-Aÿ. Lovely red fruits, with just a hint of floral and toast. With more than six years on lees we have lovely maturity and weight. 2004 is a classic vintage. Was $73.60 Now $58.80 Code: 3808
Benard-Pitois Brut Nature Blend of 40% Chardonnay and 60% Pinot Noir, Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Mareuil-sur-Ay and Mutigny from 2008 and older reserve wines. This is a new cuvée in the Pitois line-up – and a sensational one at that. Based on the superb 2008 vintage, this is the already exceptional Brut Reserve with an extra two years on lees, so nearly five years on lees. Oozing with pristine minerality and freshness, hints of floral, all wrapped up in precise acidity and superb length. Tyson Stelzer rates the 2007 version of this at 94/100 – so we estimate the 2008 version to rate 96/100. Bargain. Was $63.00 Now $50.40 Code: 2450 “As I live in Canberra, I have met Ross only twice. Rather, I have known him over the decades mainly as a genial voice providing expert advice and guidance on wine matters over the telephone. As a member of Ross's generation, I am long retired, but fortunately Ross's enthusiasm and commitment to educating people about wine and importing quality wine have kept him in the industry to continue to give us consumers the benefits of his experience, judgement and contacts. I congratulate Ross on his contribution over such a long period, and in my own case I particularly appreciate his importing the grower champagnes for which he has a passion, which he has justified by the quality of the wines.” - SYDNEY BLUMER | ACT (Valued customers of 30+ years) Let's celebrate 45 years!

Côtes des Blanc (Hills of white) Le Brun-Servenay Brut Selection Avize Grand Cru 100% Chardonnay being a blend of 50% 2008, 20% 2007, 20% 2006 and older reserve wines. This particular cuvée is always a blend of 4 vintages – and good ones at that. Fermentation is classic in tank and the malo-lactic fermentation is blocked. Rich and tight, very complex with oodles of Avize spice – coupled with subtle overtones of white fruits. There is purity and weight and the lack of malo-lactic fermentation adds a level of finesse and freshness which makes this a great aperitif or food style. This is primarily from Avize with a little Cramant (vineyard right on the Avize border) and a little Oger. This wine needs no introduction – Closure is Diam cork. Was $61.00 Merci $48.80 Code: 5932 Le Brun-Servenay 2004 Exhilarante The Exhilarante is a triumph of wine making – 80% Chardonnay and 10% each of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier from the superb 2004 vintage. The red fruits round out the vivacity of the Chardonnay and help to produce a powerful and piercing wine – hints of minerals, citrus, apricot and toasts. A stand out Champagne. Dosage 8g/litre. Was $78.20 Merci $62.50 Code: 3811
Le Brun-Servenay 2004 Blanc de Blancs This cuvée is always about floral, citrus, hints of pear and smoky overtones. The three old vines parcels spread across Azive and Cramant add considerable richness and weight – all held in check by a dosage of 8g/litre and no malo-lactic fermentation. The quality of 2004 is evident. 2004 is clearly a vintage of real quality – and quite an abundant one in terms of total production. 2004 shows maybe a little more finesse and elegance than the 2002 version of this. A wine to drink now and to cellar for a few years. Class crisp and elegant blanc de blancs. Was $69.00 Merci $55.20 Code: 3810 Lilbert-Fils Blanc de Blancs Brut NV Grand Cru This is always one of Bertrand’s classic Chardonnay cuvées, oozing with spine tingling minerals, great length and amazing balance. A blend of 2010 and 2009. The vineyard mix is 60% Cramant, 30% Chouilly and 10% Oiry – all Grand Cru - with a tiny dosage of 7g/litre. There are hints of lime zest and almond on the nose, flowing onto a crisp unctuous palate, leading to a long finish with wonderful acid balance and cleansing austerity. The feature of Bertrand’s wines is the piercing cleansing acidity – with chalk and minerals in abundance. If you like round, soft, cuddly Chardonnay Champagne, this is NOT for you. If you like piercing minerality, chalky tension and palate staining intensity – you will love this. Was $66.70 Merci $53.40 Code: 3423

Sud Epernay (South of Epernay) J.M Sélèque Cuvée Spéciale 60% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Meunier and 10% Pinot Noir, from a base of 2010 and 40% reserve wines, with 20% seeing some oak maturation, all from the 1er Cru vines in Pierry, Dizy and Vertus. With three years on lees we see subtle mineral and toasty elements, hints of floral and citrus. Complex and long with a perfectly judged dosage keeping the palate crisp and clean. Outstanding wine making gives this perfect balance and amazing length. Dosage is a low 7g/litre. The Chardonnay component adds a sherbet citrus overlay to the red fruits. Was $58.65 Merci $46.90 Code: 3778
J.M Sélèque 2008 Comedie 70% Chardonnay, 15% Pinot Meunier and 15% Pinot Noir. 45 year old vines. Fermented in stainless steel tanks and oak barrels with stirring of the lees. No fining and no filtration. Dosage 4g/litre. A vinous powerful style of Champagne that floats on its Chardonnay minerality. The classic acidity and finesse of 2008 vintage raises the quality of this already sensational cuvée into the stratosphere. Make no mistakes about the quality of the 2008 vintage – many consider it to be superior to 2002, 2004 and superior to the great 1996 vintage. Was $71.30 Merci $57.00 Code: 2452
“A great palate, an amazing memory for wines (is there one he doesn't remember?) and a wonderfully generous friend. Dukey encompasses all that and more. It's been our delight and privilege to learn about wines from Dukey, taste some of the best in the world and even work alongside him at various times in his business. One of our most memorable highlights was staying at his charming Montceau-et-Echarnant retreat and accompanying him to 'Les Grands Jours de Bourgogne' in 2008. It was here, among the local Burgundians, that we fully appreciated the depth of knowledge, respect and genuine affection that Dukey has acquired over a lifetime devoted to the wine industry – and to French wine, in particular. We're forever in his debt (literally) but all the richer for knowing him. Congratulations, Dukey, on your 45th anniversary – and thank you.” - ROSS & HELEN EVA | VIC (Valued customers of 45+ years)

HABLIS Jean Collet et Fils 2010 Chablis 'Montee de Tonnerre' 1er Cru Engaging green edged colour is a great start. The nose is minerally and earthy. This follows faithfully onto the palate and stamps itself as an authentic and fabulous Chablis. The flavour is minerally and flinty with grapefruit and lemon notes and the palate is very, very long. You will all love this outstanding Premier Cru. Was $44.85 Merci $35.80 Code: 3795
Millet 2011 'Vaucoupin' 1er Cru Green/gold colour with a prominent earthy/mineral nose which follows faithfully onto the palate. There is also a richness of honey and grapefruit - very crisp acidity and lovely balance. Top quality Chablis! Was $49.20 Merci $39.40 Code: 3796
“Do you know 'On top of old Smoky'?”
“My first contact with Ross goes back to the early days of Duke & Moorfield in Melbourne, so our friendship and business association have stood the test of time and circumstance over the intervening years. He is a pillar of independent wine merchants in Australia. His wide knowledge of French wines, especially those from Burgundy, is always readily available to his clients, most of whom can also be called friends. His finely honed, expert palate provides good advice to buyers across the range, always offering genuine prix/qualite rapport. Ross is innovative: his frequent buying visits to France to maintain contacts with growers on a personal basis. His involvement with Victor in the selection and importing of fine smaller house Champagnes. The founding of the excellent Wine bar in Glenferrie Road. The tastings offered of recent arrivals and the chance to meet producers from France and the splendidly informative catalogues of current offerings on indent, to name a few of his contributions to wine lovers. Long may he continue!!” - GEOFFREY THOMAS | VIC (Valued customer of 40+ years) Let's celebrate 45 years!

URGUNDY Côte de Nuits Bart 2010 Marsannay 'Les Longerois' – Village Deep ruby red colour with a highly perfumed nose. New pruning with this 2010 using the Guyot method. Very small yield gives it intensity. A 25% touch of new oak adds more depth to this lovely wine. Ripe and very round finish. Top quality indeed! Was: $38.00 Merci $30.40 Code: 1861 Fourrier 2011 Gevrey-Chambertin Village Soft ruby red colour. This is a very elegant Gevrey from former years. Ripe, soft tannins mild acidity and silky finish. Yes, different but lovely! Was $83.40 Merci $66.70 Code: 2425 There has been a lot spoken about the 2004 vintage in Burgundy and I believe that most wine writers got it wrong AND the wines have just begun to prove me right. Here are three excellent examples of 2004 from Jean-Louis Trapet whilst still young they will continue to get better over the next 10+ years.
Jean-Louis Trapet 2004 Latricieres-Chambertin Deep ruby red colour. The nose is beginning to express the fruit and the palate backs this up. Always a feminine style with lovely balance and great length. This is opening up beautifully and I would suggest decanting 2-3 hours before pouring as it will open up beautifully. Was $146.00 Merci $116.80 Code: 4078 Jean-Louis Trapet 2004 Chapelle-Chambertin Similar colour to Latricieres. Good bouquet and full of red berry fruits on the palate. Great length and very good balance and the tannins are not too dry. Needs more time but the quality is obvious and compelling. Was $146.00 Merci $116.80 Code: 4077 Jean-Louis Trapet 2004 Chambertin As expected this is a little bit more backward at present but the balance is spot on. The fruit is beginning to show up some intensity but the best is yet to come. Keep for 10-12 years but in the meantime decant for at least 3 hours before drinking. Great wine. Was $215.00 Merci $172.00 Code: 4079 “I cannot ever pour out Burgundy into my glass or for that matter anyone else’s without thinking of Ross. Ross remains one of my earliest memories when it comes to the fine wines of France. I consider myself indeed fortunate that fate brought us together so many years ago. Ross not only brought me into close contact with the great wines of Burgundy and their makers but also taught me how to appreciate them. In his very own and inimitable style he showed me how to wade through the mystic and nonsense that unfortunately surrounds some of the great wines of the world and focus on the ultimate truth which is that in the final analysis wine is just that a drink (a very great one if chosen wisely) to share with good friends over good food. I will never forget my first 'Grand Jours' with Ross at Morey St Denis having Chambertin poured into our glasses by Rousseau himself as though he was pouring out mineral water. Rousseau was well & truly merry and inviting us to take part in his next vintage! All Rousseau wanted to know was whether we thought the wine was good or not. None of the 'merchant banking' I was used to seeing back home when a bottle of fine wine was opened at a dinner or tasting. Thank you Ross! I look forward to many more years of your friendship and of course drinking great wine together!” - PAUL ELIADIS | QLD (Valued customer of 35+ years)

Pierre Amiot 2010 Morey-Saint-Denis 'Aux Charmes' 1er Cru Deep ruby colour. High level of fruit with a nice, even balance with a little tannin on the finish leaving a clean fresh palate. Was $81.00 Merci $64.80 Code: 1844
Pierre Amiot 2010 Morey-Saint-Denis 'Les Ruchots' 1er Cru Dark intense colour. This is delicious even now. Fine balance of fruit to acid to tannin ratio. A blockbuster of a Pinot laden with wild berry fruit and red berry flavours to boot. Outstanding wine! Was $85.00 Merci $68.00 Code: 1846 Pierre Amiot 2011 Morey-Saint-Denis 'Clos de la Roche' Grand Cru Very deep colour which confirms ripe and powerful fruit. The nose is closed as is the palate. Check out the structure of the wine which is persistent and very long. This just needs time and will emerge as an outstanding red Burgundy from one of the best Grand Cru sites on the Cote d’Or. Was $155.25 Merci $124.20 Code: 2423 Domaine des Lambrays 2011 Clos des Lambrays 2011 Grand Cru Deeper and more intense colour with more purple than ruby. Such intensity on the palate which lingers on and on after swallowing this outstanding wine. I cannot remember tasting a Grand Cru out of barrel that showed such impact on the palate. This is a classic from this famous Domaine. A knock-out of great proportions! Was $268.00 Merci $214.40 Code: 2419
Domaine des Lambrays 2008 Morey-Saint-Denis 'Les Loups' 1er Cru I usually defer to the Village wine as it is just such high quality and value but on this occasion the 'Les Loups' stood out. Amazing depth of high quality fruit and miniscule yield of around 25 hectolitres per hectare. The balance is there, the fruit is there and the structure is impeccable. Was $109.00 Merci $87.20 Code: 8532 Digioia-Royer 2010 Chambolle-Musigny 'Vielles Vignes' Village Very intense black/red colour. The intensity follows faithfully onto the palate but there is softness and roundness, plus silk. Excellent quality from start to finish. Was $74.00 Merci $59.20 Code: 1841 Jean Tardy 2007 Nuits-Saint-Georges 'Aux Bas de Combe' Powerful, sweet fruit with great concentration and silken finish. Not the normal earthy type of Nuits St Georges, more Vosne-Romanee in style! Was $72.00 Merci $57.60 Code: 6031

Thibault Liger-Belair 2011 'Les Grands Chaillots' Bourgogne Deep, vibrant ruby-red colour. Plenty of tannin on the palate but quite closed. This will be a forceful Pinot of great length but will need time in the bottle to fill out the massive fruit character. Impressive and such value for money. Was $44.00 Merci $35.20 Code: 2407
Thibault Liger-Belair 2011 Haut Cotes de Nuits 'Clos du Prieure' A delightful vineyard that lies high up in the hills of the Cote de Nuits. Dense red colour and quite aromatic on the nose. The palate is rich, ripe and quite long with more cherry/raspberry fruit and round tannin on the finish. An impressive wine from this under-rated vineyard source. Was $48.30 Merci $38.70 Code: 2408 Thibault Liger-Belair 2011 Nuits-Saint-Georges 'Les Saint Georges' 1er Cru Deep ruby red colour. Somewhat closed on the palate with firmer tannins but great length. This will need time in the bottle up to 10 years plus but will be an outstanding wine. This is Thibault's favourite wine and currently under application for Grand Cru status. Was $170.20 Merci $136.00 Code: 2412

“I bought my first (and second) imported wine(s) from a young man named Ross Duke at an establishment called Duke and Moorefield in North Melbourne (the old people will remember it). The wines were bottles of 1970 and 1971 Bran Cantenac (Bordeaux). The motto - It is your (Ross's) fault I now have expensive taste in imported wines. Thank God for you.” - KIM WEST, Wine Commentator 3AW | VIC ( Valued customer of 45+ years)

Côte de Beaune Jean-Claude Bachelet 2011 Bourgogne Rouge A deep ruby colour which sparkles in the glass. Lovely flavour of red berry fruits with some fruit tannin to add body and depth of structure. Impressive basic appellation. Was $31.05 Merci $24.80 Code: 2395
Jean-Claude Bachelet 2011 Chassasgne-Montrachet 'Les Macherelles' 1er Cru Blanc Deep green/gold colour. Great depth but still young. This will be formidable given time in the bottle up to 10 years. Stunning wine! Was $90.85 Merci $72.70 Code: 2389
Côte Chalonnaise Erell Ninot 2010 Mercurey 'Les Crets' 1er Cru Rouge Juicy again with a little bit more depth of tannin but the silky texture remains. Just two lovely Pinots from this very under-rated region. Was $39.00 Merci $31.20 Code: 3748
EAUJOLAIS Thibault Liger-Belair 2011 Moulin-à-Vent 'Les Vielles Vignes' This cuvée comes from 7 parcels located in the middle of the hill on the coteau of Moulin-à-Vent Hill. The vines are aged 65 to 85 years, planted on deep soils (30-35 cm) of blue and pink granite and sand. Therefore it produces some wines with more density and minerality and a longer finish. This is a wine which can be aged between 5 and 10 years. Lovely silky texture with expressive powerful fruit. The best Cru in Beaujolais and this is an outstanding example! Was $43.70 Merci $35.00 Code: 2457 Thibault Liger-Belair 2011 Moulin-à-Vent 'La Roche' Thibault considers this small 0,95 hectare vineyard as the most beautiful parcel of his Domaine. It is located at the top of the hill where the pink granite rock outcrops with a mixture of quartz, pink sand on a stone bed which imparts tension and minerality to the finished wine. This is a wine that is built for long ageing between 7 and 15 years to fully appreciate its intense quality. Moulin-à-vent is always the most flavoursome wine in Beaujolais. Was $54.00 Merci $43.20 Code: 2458 “Ross, Congratulations on your 45th year of importing Fine French Wines. Fine wines indeed! My love of Bordeaux and Burgundy is well known to all my friends. Until I attended your unforgettable tasting of 1990 Bordeaux Reds, I had been buying French Wine in very small quantities. That night changed all that. Being able to taste and discuss the wines with you, gave me the confidence to order much more. Thank you so much for the many great times we have spent together. The tastings, the dinners and unbelievable times in France. Lots of fun and laughter and of course lots of fabulous French Wine. I learnt so much and had a great time doing it. Thanks for getting me 'hooked' on Burgundy.” - JAMES NETTLETON | VIC (Valued customer of 35+ years)

Trenel offer many different flavours, including the famous Cassis (Blackcurrant), Pêche, Strawberry & Cerise (Cherry). RÉMANT DE BOURGOGNE Paul Chollet Crémant de Bourgogne Blanc Brut The different origins of the grapes used in this blend ensures that the final cuvée has a wonderful balance. Lovely fine bubble and an attractive palate full of ripe fruit but crisp and dry. A low dosage of 5 gm/litre. With 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay this Crémant is very versatile as an aperitif, with food or amongst great company. Was $32.20 Merci $25.80 Code: 2446 Paul Chollet Crémant de Bourgogne Brut Rosé 100% Pinot Noir from various origins within the Cotes de Beaune, Cotes de Nuits and Haut Cotes de Nuits. A dosage of 7 gm/litre emphasises the aromas and the bouquet. Beautiful bright pink colour as it has been in contact with the Pinot Noir skins. The palate is lush and full of strawberry and blackberry fruit with a delicate balance. Just lovely! Was $33.00 Merci $26.40 Code: 2305 “45 years of seeking out the best domaines in Burgundy means you must have started when you were in short pants! There is no one in Australia who knows Burgundy better than Ross. Your offerings are always full of great advice and beautiful wines. OIRE VALLEY Jean Pabiot et Fils 2012 Pouilly-Fume A lovely vintage for Sauvignon Blanc has provided Alain Pabiot with excellent fruit to make a highly typical Pouilly. The nose is spicy as is the palate with crisp acidity and a clean dry finish. No new oak is used and everything takes place in a tank. A lovely wine that we have been importing for over 25 years!! Was $27.00 Merci $21.60 Code: 3821
ORDEAUX Chateau La Gontie 2013 Bordeaux Blanc This is an interesting blend of 90% Sauvignon Gris (grey) and 10% Semillon from the south of Bordeaux. It is a crisp style of white without the strong spice of Sauvignon Blanc and it is more rounder and soft. There is no oak employed as the wine relies on it’s ripe and attractive fruit. It is excellent with all type of seafood and a thoroughly enjoyable wine suited to most palates. We have been shipping this wine for approximately 30 years now and is highly popular. Was $22.60 Merci $18.00 Code: 2538
“I first met Ross over 40 years ago at Duke & Moorfield. One Christmas, not long after this Ross handed me a case of Chevalier Montrachet, the prize in a competition I didn't know I'd entered. What a generous gift and what an amazing wine - typical of Ross. Not long after that Ross went off the radar, some years later he was next seen North Melbourne. He organised the famous Burgundy dinner in 1994 at Walter's, it was a hilarious affair with the enthusiasm of Ross and the Burgundians bubbling over. Over the years we have nagged Ross to bring in Bordeaux wines but he has stuck resolute to his guns, finally wearing us down. Ross has cost us a fortune over the years and we have enjoyed every drop of it? Thank you Ross for your friendship and for taking us on the amazing wine journey.” - JAMES & VALERIE JENKINS | VIC (Valued customer of 40+ years)

HONE VALLEY Boisson 2011 Cairanne Rouge 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre. Nice deep colour and a nose full of jasmine and iris – just so floral! This wine did not see any oak at all but is elegant and spicy with mild acidity and high concentration of fruit. Was $28.75 Merci $23.00 Code: 3805 Pradelle 2011 Crozes-Hermitage Rouge Dark Ruby in colour with a delightfully spicy red-fruit nose. The spiciness follows onto the palate where tannins are found to be soft with a beautiful long and clean finish. The alcohol is low at 13% so no hot taste at all. Beautiful to drink right now but no problems with ageing over the next 10 years. A classic Shiraz! Was $29.35 Merci $23.50 Code: 3807 Notre Dame de Pallieres 2010 Gigondas 'Bois des Mourres' Rouge Deep ruby colour with great clarity. A very stylish, elegant and silky textured palate full of red berry fruits. Stylish with enormous length with 5-10% of ageing in old oak barrels to round out the finish. Just so stylish and round. Was $39.60 Merci $31.70 Code: 3802 Porte Rouge 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape This is a very traditional Chateauneuf du Pape using only 2 of the 13 permitted grape varieties for this wine – 90% Grenache Noir and 10% Syrah (Shiraz) with no white grapes entering the blend as they tend to oxidise easily. The wine is aged in old oak barrels for one year then settled and bottled. There is none of the high alcohol or strong use of new oak but a beautiful purity with no hot overtones. Excellent quality from nose to palate! Was $57.00 Merci $45.60 Code: 2373
'Wait there – I'll get you a blood sample'
“My introduction to Ross and wine. The early 1970’s after a Sunday morning run or game of squash a bottle of fine wine was drunk usually Hill of Grace. We then had wine bottlings from South Australia namely Birks, Kays, Ryecroft, Coroile etc. But as Ross’s interest grew into French wines firstly Bordeaux, Rhone then the passion for Burgundy developed and more recently Champagne growers this has influenced me and kept my bank balance low. Yvonne and I will never forget our experience in Champagne and the 'Grand Jour' in 2008, in which we learnt a great deal about these wines. Ross’s enthusiasm and love of these wines has been infectious. Thank you Ross for introducing us to the likes of Petrus, Les Montrachet, Rayas etc. Congratulations on your 45 years, it has been a wonderful journey and we are only to happy to be part of it.” - BRETT & YVONNE BAHEN | Country VIC (Valued customers of 45+ years)

Bosquet des Papes 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvée Traditionelle Ruby red in colour and soft fruity nose. The palate is so soft, round with mild tannins and great length. The infusion of berry fruits is obvious but no hot taste at all just lovely length and complexity. Was $59.80 Merci $47.80 Code: 3797
Bouletin et Fils 2010 Muscat Beaumes de Venise – 375ml This delightful dessert wine is made using the Muscat grape but the berries are quite small and concentrated with a low yield of 30 hectolitres/hectare. All harvesting is manual and fermentation is conducted at a low temperature of 14°c in order to control the fermentation and stop with ferment at 110 grams of residual sugar per litre. The colour of this wine is a pale gold and has a minty and exotic fruit flavour of lychee, marmalade and spiciness. The wine lingers in the mouth for quite some time and is best served as an aperitif with roquefort toast or with foie-gras, which is a local speciality and is a superb compliment. Another suggestion is to accompany melon as a dessert. There is no cloying sugar with this wine style as it finishes crisp and clean. Was $20.00 Merci $16.00 Code: 2357
