FORWARD Just back from France following extensive visits to most of our growers. The 2012 vintage was delightful, both for white and red Burgundy as well as excellent Champagne and lovely Riesling etc in Alsace. The bi-annual tasting of the Grands Jours de Bourgogne was one of the largest attended since its inception some 12 years ago. The volume of wines were just so great from each of the growers, which made each tasting very demanding. I guess someone has to do it!! In overall quality terms, it was so impressive, as 2012 is just a beautiful vintage for top quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. It is rare to find both red and white of such quality in the one year. Our 2012 offer will be out later this year - approximately Sept. Please be quick, as the quantity of wine available is very low right across the board. Many growers have suffered substantial losses which resulted in very small allocations. This is the toughest vintage that the growers and ourselves have ever experienced to date. Our current offer is a lovely mixture of wines, with a stunning selection of Champagne, Chablis from Domaine Millet plus a delicious Bourgogne Rouge from Bart then some delicious and very fine Crémants from Paul Chollet. Oh yes, we have further stock of our very popular Sonhyx and Premium Champagne glasses. We are still experiencing a continuing poor exchange rate, so we have decided to reduce our margin to offset the decline in the Australian dollar. We have not adopted our normal theory of passing on the exchange rate, as this may be prohibitive for many of our valued clients. We are confident that you will all appreciate this decision. I spent additional time in France so I could visit new growers, for you to taste a broad range of wines from many regions in France throughout this year. We think this current catalogue has something for all palates and if we can be of any help in making your selections just give us a call. Fond regards to you from Ross, Vic, Bev, Sarah, and Eve

LATEST NEWS FROM BURGUNDY We are absolutely delighted to report that the traditional ‘frost period’ experienced in May has successfully passed. This is a HUGE relief for all growers, as well as ourselves. There is a God. So raise your glass!’

DOMAINE MILLET Tonnerre 13 hectares I caught up with Baudouin Millet at the Grands Jours de Bourgogne exhibition in March of this year. This gave me an opportunity to measure Baudouin’s Chablis against a very large presentation of in excess of 60 growers. Well,he competed handsomely against much more expensive Chablis vignerons. There were many wines that lacked the authentic minerality and flintiness of real Chablis. Millet is just so authentic whilst nestled on his own vineyard outside of the nearby town of Tonnerre.

Chardonnay wines. The 2012 vintage was a classic in the region with good levels of acidity and ripe lush fruit. The balance is excellent and capable of long bottle age up to 10 year plus. Certainly a great Chablis vintage. The Grands Jours tasting showed the quality of the 2012 vintage so it was a delight to taste and compare village style, different Crus from Petit Chablis through village, premier and Grand Cru appellations. Add to this various uses of new and old oak for maturation and the various blends of lieu dites (specific sites) and of vines picked at different times . This adds more complexity to the flavour and length of taste of all wines and results in a range of styles across the board.

Their vines are located on Kimmeridgian clay and about 1,000 metres above sea level so his location is quite cool and undulating. His wine making equipment is quite modern and temperature control in the cuverie is extensive which is so important when fermenting his lovely PETIT CHABLIS 2012

‘Stoney aroma which follows on to the palate infused with high, crisp acid and very mineral. Excellent balance with a touch of lemon/lime fruit. This is followed by a fresh and lively lengthy finish. So typical of a top quality Chablis. There will be no problem keeping this wine over the following 5-6 years. However I could drink it now’ Code: 2445

Pre-arrival $23.50 ADDITIONAL STOCK FROM THE STUNNING 2011 VINTAGE

2011 CHABLIS VILLAGE ‘That important green tinge to the colour is always important as it reflects the presence of acidity. That earthy, stony and mineral nose is ever present, as is the crisp dry and stony finish. This is excellent from start to finish. THIS IS THE REAL DEAL. No need to worry if you cellar it for 5-8 years, but I prefer my Chablis relatively young as I love that stony/mineral finish. Oops a gold medal winner at the Macon wine fair to boot!’ Code: 9283

Pre-arrival $28.00

2011 CHABLIS 'VAUCOUPIN' 1er CRU ‘A vibrant green/gold colour with a prominent earthy, citrus and mineral nose which follows faithfully onto the palate. There is also a richness of honey and grapefruit - very crisp acidity and lovely balance. Outstanding 1er Cru that would satisfy all Chablis lovers. Did I say this is the real deal?’ Code: 3796 Pre-arrival $42.80

PAUL CHOLLET Crémant de Bourgogne Savigny-Les-Beaune – 20 Hectares Gilles Remy continues to fine tune his lovely Crémant de Bourgogne wines. My tasting this year revealed much greater finesse and very fine bubbles. There was the elimination of the Aligoté grape preferring to use the classic Pinot Noir and Chardonnay hence a finer palate resulted. I, again, could compare Gilles wines against a broad selection of many Crémants from a range of villages and growers. I came away delighted and convinced that we have the finest producer of this delightful sparkling wine. I compared bottles of Gilles Crémants with a small selection of Champagne and this convinced me that he was right on the ball. It is difficult to recognise his Crémant from authentic Champagne. I recommend all of these wines most enthusiastically. CRÉMANT DE BOURGOGNE BLANC DE BLANC '100% Chardonnay fruit, aged on lees for 16 months. A light dosage of around 5 gm/litre. Fine bead and quite aromatic with hints of citrus and white flower. A very crisp and lemon/lime flavour which is very long finish. A very pure and discreet Crémant suited to most palates. Lovely as an aperitif or with seafood.' - Tastevinage label Code: 2304

Pre-arrival $29.70

CRÉMANT DE BOURGOGNE BRUT ROSÉ '100% Pinot Noir from various origins within the Cotes de Beaune, Cotes de Nuits and Haut Cotes de Nuits. A dosage of 7 gm/litre emphasises the aromas and the bouquet. Beautiful bright pink colour as it has been in contact with the Pinot Noir skins. The palate is lush and full of strawberry and blackberry fruit with a delicate balance. Just lovely!' Code: 2305

Pre-arrival $28.70

CRÉMANT DE BOURGOGNE BRUT ZERO (dosage) 'A blend of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay grown in the Cote de Beaune and the Haut Cote de Nuit. This assembly of fruit provides roundness linked with a fresh, fruity and crisp style. Attractive richness on the middle palate and very fine bubbles.' Code: 2376

Pre-arrival $30.00

CRÉMANT DE BOURGOGNE BLANC BRUT 'The different origins of the grapes used in this blend ensures that the final cuvée has a wonderful balance. Lovely fine bubble and an attractive palate full of ripe fruit but crisp and dry. A low dosage of 5 gm/litre. With 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay this Crémant is very versatile as an aperitif, with food or amongst great company.' Code: 2446

DOMAINE BART Marsannay 20 Hectares Martin Bart is in control of the Domaine at present and assisted by his brother Pierre. He followed his father Andre and uncle Jean who was a professor of history in Dijon. Their grandfather was a Clair of Clair-Dau hence the holding they have of Grands Crus Bonnes Mares and Chambertin Clos de Beze including an extensive wide variety of Marsannay cuvées: Champs Salomon, Les Echezots, Les Grandes Vignes, Favieres and the monopoly of Les Finottes. They also have a premier cru in nearby Fixin ‘Les Hervelets and some Chambolle-Musigny and Santenay, where the Clair family originated, plus their famous and delicious Marsannay Rosé. BOURGOGNE ROUGE 2012 'Bart continues to produce a stunning and inexpensive Bourgogne Rouge each year. The 2012 version is one of their very best with delightful aromatic Pinot Noir fruit and savoury red berry fruit on the palate. The tannin is soft and round and the length of flavour is so mouth filling. It can be drunk now or kept for up to 5-8 years as the structure and balance is just so exact. We have been buying and shipping Domaine Bart wines for over 35 years now and the 2012 Bourgogne Rouge is one of the best wines we have selected!' Code: 2447

CHAMPAGNE GASTON CHIQUET Dizy – 1er Cru Marne Valley – 22 Hectares The

original Nicolas Chiquet planted his first vines in 1746. Since then eight generations have carried on the family tradition with Gaston Chiquet launching his own brand in 1935. They now own 22 hectares covering Dizy, Ay, Mareuil-sur-Ay and Hautvillers. The proportions cultivated are Chardonnay 40%, Pinot Meunier 40% and Pinot Noir 20%. Dizy has a 1er Cru classification with a rating of 95% and has much in common with its neighbouring village Aÿ. The wines show good weight and intensity, and they are proud to use their high quality Pinot Meunier. The style here is for precise Champagnes that are accurate of their terroir and grape variety. The wine making does not mask or hide what nature provides. The entire range is outstanding – even the humble Brut Tradition. Nicolas is fastidious about preserving the freshness and acidity in Champagne throughout the vinification, bottling and storage process. He has conducted many years of testing bottle closures – cork and Diam – and come to the conclusion that only dense Diam offers him the reliability, neutrality and preservation which are imperative for the Gaston Chiquet label. GASTON CHIQUET BRUT TRADITION – Nobel Banquet label A most prestigious event 'The Nobel Banquet' commenced in 1969 in Oslo, the home of the Nobel Peace prize. This cuvée tradition was selected to be served at last years Banquet, 2013. A blend of 80% 2010 and older reserve wines. 35% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Noir and 45% Pinot Meunier with a dosage of 8gm/litre. This is a delightfully round and balanced cuvée with a persistent and elegant mousse. Colour is a straw gold, aromas of brioche and apple leading to a complex and unctuous palate, no doubt enriched by the quality Pinot Meunier component. Always an approachable rounder style and perfect as an aperitif or with any seafood or white meat. As an entry level wine, this is one of the very best on the market. We see some real elegance, purity and sophistication with real length. 2010 will be a classic vintage and any wines based on this vintage will reveal some great elegance and finesse with fine grained acidity. Corks are dense Mytik – and the wines handle further aging in the cellar extremely well. Code: 3417

CHAMPAGNE LE BRUN-SERVENAY Avize – Grand Cru Cote de Blancs – 7.5 hectares The 'Le Brun Servenay' label was first created in 1955 comprising of vineyards from Avize, Cramant, Oger, Mancy and Grauves. The Grand Crus providing the great Chardonnay and the other villages providing small amounts of Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir. Patrick officially took over the vinification back in 1992. The style here is taught, mineral, fresh and persistent. There is no oak utilised in any of the regular wines – with Patrick picking grapes for acidity and freshness. To maintain that vital freshness, the malo-lactic fermentation is always avoided. Patrick is an innovator and a thinker and was the President of the Syndicat General des Vignerons de la Champagne – the governing body for the growers - from 2004 to 2009. LE BRUN-SERVENAY SELECTION BLANC DE BLANC G. CRU 100% Chardonnay being a blend of 50% 2009, 20% 2008, 20% 2007 and older reserve wines. Dosage 7.5 gm/litre. This particular cuvée is always a blend of 4 vintages – and good ones at that. Fermentation is classic in tank and the malo-lactic fermentation is always blocked. Rich and tight, very complex with oodles of Avize spice – coupled with subtle overtones of white fruits. There is purity and weight and the lack of malo-lactic fermentation adds a level of finesse and freshness which makes this a great aperitif or food style. This is primarily from Avize with a little Cramant (vineyard right on the Avize border) and a little Oger. This wine needs no introduction – now very popular with regular customers and many restaurants are pouring this by the glass. Closure is Diam cork. This is a new shipment – it has been 'that' popular. TYSON STELZER RATING 94/100 Code: 5932

CHAMPAGNE MARC HEBRART Mareuil-sur-Ay – 1er Cru Marne Valley - 14 Hectares Jean-Paul Hebrart runs this property and is one of the super growers in this very much under-rated village. Mareuil-sur-Ay is rated at 99% right next door to Ay. There are many experts who believe it deserves true 100% Grand Cru status. It is home to Billecart-Salmon and also the famous Philipponnat "Clos des Goisses” vineyard at the extreme eastern end. The style here is similar to Ay but with maybe a little more minerality and finesse. Jean-Paul has some great Chardonnay in Chouilly and Oiry with a very high average vine age. Quality is at a very high level, to the extent that Jean-Paul used to supply grapes to Bollinger. Annual production from 14 ha of vines is 90,000 bottles, but this will thankfully increase now that Jean-Paul has decided to stop selling grapes and bottle his entire production. Jean-Paul is married to Isabelle Diebolt – daughter of Jacques Diebolt - one of the truly great growers in Cramant. The vineyards are spread across Ay, Mareuil-sur-Ay, Avenay Val d'Or, Bisseuil and also some prestigious Grand Cru Chardonnay vineyards in Chouilly and Oiry on the other side of the Marne. Dosages are low and the terroir is allowed to shine. He is also a member of the ‘Club de Tresors’ and produces a sensational ‘Special Club’ Cuvée. MARC HEBRART CUVÉE RESÉRVE 1er CRU 77% Pinot Noir from Mareuil-sur-Ay, Avenay Val d’Or and Bisseuil and 23% Chardonnay from Mareuil. A blend of 2011 and older reserve wines from 2010 and 2009 - all from vineyards with an average age of 25 years. Dosage 8gm/litre. The style here is for purity, freshness and elegance. There are delightful piercing citrus and floral overtones – with just a hint of hazelnut and strawberries. The palate is perfectly balanced with a super intense mousse, cleansing acid on the long palate. An excellent aperitif-food style. Drinks way above its very humble price. Typical of the pure elegant terroir of Mareuil-sur-Ay and a long time favourite. Bargain. Code: 3534

CHAMPAGNE VOIRIN-JUMEL Cramant – Grand Cru Cote des Blancs – 11 Hectares 11 hectares of vineyards span the villages of Cramant, Avize, Oger, Ay, Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Vertus, Verneuil and Chouilly - and vines have an average age of 30 years. All this helps them to produce a small range of very individual and elegant wines. Using a modern horizontal automated press allows Patrick to keep a tight reign on the quality and consistency of the final product. The Vintage Cuvée Grand Cru and NV Cuvée Grand Cru are generally a mix of the best parcels of Grand Cru Cramant and Chouilly. Dosages are all on the low side, allowing for the terroir to speak clearly and forcefully. The viticulture is environmentally friendly with no systemic chemical products being used and any treatments are always kept to a minimum. Alice Voirin won the prestigious 'Jeunes Talents du Champagne' 2013 Award for best Chardonnay producer. This was up against some stiff opposition in the final taste off against Andre Jacquart and Philippe Gonet. Emmanuel Fourny won the award in 2012. So yes – the quality of the Champagnes is remarkable value. VOIRIN-JUMEL BLANC DE BLANCS GRAND CRU Blend of 60% Cramant, with the remainder from Avize, Chouilly and Oger. All Grand Cru Chardonnay vineyards from a blend of 2010 and reserve wines. The dosage here is 8gm/litre and allows the creamy elegance to shine. There are citrus and floral notes in abundance and the classic Cramant minerality is subtle and not intrusive. Superb with sashimi and sushi. Quite delightful as an aperitif or with seafood and is a great bargain. Becoming a great favourite with our regular customers – Grand Cru Cramant at this price is an absolute steal! Pre-arrival only, Code: 3632

Pre-arrival $50.00

VOIRIN-JUMEL BLANC DE NOIRS 1er CRU 100% Pinot Noir from a single vineyard in Mareuil-sur-Ay – 'Les Carelles'. This used to be blended into the Brut Tradition, but Patrick realised that the quality here was quite extra-ordinary and deserved a better fate. Only a small quantity is produced – blend of 2011 and older reserve wines with a dosage of 7gm/litre. Lovely sweet red fruits – hints of pear and apple – classic length on the palate. A really versatile all round Champagne which is impossible not to like. A bargain which is quickly being discovered by our regular customers. Single-vineyard Mareuil Pinot at this price is unheard of! Be quick! Code: 6060

LAUNOIS PERE ET FILS Le Mesnil-sur-Oger - Grand Cru Cote des Blancs – 30 Hectares Overall vineyard size here is quite large size with 30 ha of vineyards spread across the Cote des Blancs (Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Avize, Oger and Cramant) and Sezanne. Viticulture is all certified organic – average vine age is high and picking here is always a week later than other growers - Bernard is searching for full ripeness and maturity. The vinification style is classic in flat bottomed stainless steel tanks, leaving the wines to enrich on their lees for much longer than usual. Bernard is one of the best producers in Le Mesnilsur-Oger – many Champagne journalists say he is the best after Salon! Demand for Launois has been high – so much so that for the previous two years, stocks of many cuvées had sold out by middle of the year. This shipment of Quartz is the most recent disgorgement and is now 'pure' Le Mesnil-sur-Oger fruit. Dosages of all wines are moderate at about 8g/litre. LAUNOIS CUVÉE RESÉRVE BLANC DE BLANCS GRAND CRU Blended from 2010 and 2009 with some older reserve wines, all Grand Cru Chardonnay from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Cramant, Oger and a little Avize. A round and rich profile with a standard pressure of 6 atmospheres. The differences between this wine and the Quartz are subtle but certainly detectable. There is more richness and white fruits on the reserve – hints of apple and chalk. A versatile all-round style that beats 'big house Champagnes' on all fronts. Code: 3533

Pre-arrival $56.40

CHAMPAGNE ERIC RODEZ Ambonnay – Grand Cru Montagne de Reims – 6 Hectares Eric Rodez – The mayor of Ambonnay Eric Rodez is the eighth generation of family growing grapes in the prestigious pinot noir producing Grand Cru village of Ambonnay. He is a true artisan of his trade who is focused on the art of terroir, old vines, oak integration and control of malo-lactic fermentation. Eric speaks of the five dimensions of Champagne that shape its style and character. Cépage, location, vineyard aspect, vinification and fermentation. All the above combined, totally determine the style and quality of the final result. He has lots of old vines all with premium exposure at mid-slope. Subtle use of small Burgundian oak and control of malolactic fermentation allows Eric to create a brilliant range of terroir driven Champagnes. The 6 ha property is divided into 35 plots of only Grand Cru vines split roughly 55/45 Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Eric worked in Burgundy, Beaujolais and the Rhone for three years during

his youth, and also worked for a year at Krug. Burgundy taught him much about oak fermentation and maturation and his work with Henri Krug re-enforced his ideas even further. Now 80% of Eric’s wines are matured in some sort of oak for various periods. Dosages are light – between 4-6g/litre - and he uses RCGM not sugar. Since 1989 Eric has systematically taken major steps to improve the health and quality of his vineyard. No longer does he use weed killers or chemical fertilizers. The long-term sustainability of the health of the soil is paramount. Eric has decided to move to full biodynamic viticulture.

ERIC RODEZ BLANC DE NOIRS GRAND CRU 100% Pinot Noir, from five different vintages, 50% of which is from the spectacular 2008 vintage and then older reserve wines back to 2003. 70% of the final blend has been matured in small barriques with no malolactic fermentation. Citrus, toast, red fruits and spices are in abundance here – along with hints of candied fruits. Long and unctuous – a very special and rare Blanc de Noir – a triumph of wine making, and a bench mark of Ambonnay terroir. One of the outstanding features of Eric's wines is the meticulous care he takes in looking after his reserve wines – and also the depth of age of his reserve wines. Dosage is now down to 4gm/litre. Stunning. Code: 3541

CHAMPAGNE HENRIET-BAZIN Villers-Marmery Montagne de Reims – 7.5 Hectares Marie-Noelle and father Daniel cultivate 7.5 ha of vines in Villers-Marmery 1er Cru (Chardonnay) and Verzenay, Verzy Grand Cru (Pinot Noir). The original Henriet family specialised in Champagne production whereas the Bazins were grape growers – and now four generations later, father and daughter are producing some sensational Champagne from Grand Cru and 1er Cru vineyards in some of the best locations in the Montagne de Reims. 80,000 bottles are produced annually with 40% going to the Swiss, Italy, England and U.S.. Business has been good for them and they have had to expand and move to a new cuverie and tasting area just around the corner. They had to use some of their vineyards as land for the new property. This grower is gaining some popularity with the fine wine fraternity for producing pure, unadulterated wines that express their terroir and origins. The entire range is a stand out and many Australian tourists visit here for a wonderful 'Champagne lesson' from Nicolas – Marie-Noelle's husband. Marie-Noelle is particularly passionate about the intricate art of matching food with Champagne. Nicolas runs a superb vineyard tourism business – Oenovasion. His knowledge and history of the Champagne region is outstanding. HENRIET-BAZIN BLANC DE NOIRS GRAND CRU 100% Pinot Noir from 2009 and reserve wines from 2008 and 2007 from the great black grape villages of Verzenay and Verzy. Average vine age here is 26 years with a low dosage of 8gm/litre. Colour is a pale bronze with a shimmering fine mousse, nose is classically terroir – red fruits, minerals and gunpowder. Palate continues the aromas along with hints of brioche. On the palates this is very vinous and quite powerful. A classic and rare Grand Cru Blanc de Noirs from arguably the most important and famous of all the villages in the Montagne de Reims. This really does have hints of Bollinger and Krug about it. Perfect with roast spatchcock, duck, veal or pigeon. Would work great with grilled tuna. Code: 4111

CHAMPAGNE JEAN VESSELLE Bouzy Montagne de Reims – 15 Hectares

Delphine and David The Vesselle family have been vignerons in Bouzy for 300 years and now farm 15 ha of vines – half of which are in Bouzy and the remainder in the Aube region - in Loches sur Ource near Riceys. Hence the majority of their vineyards are Pinot Noir - 90% - with the remaining 10% as Chardonnay. Minimal pesticides and herbicides are used – with grass cover minimising the need for weed killers.

CHAMPAGNE SÉLÈQUE Pierry – 1er Cru Sud Epernay – 7.5 Hectares

Sélèque is a relatively new discovery in our Champagne portfolio – but a very significant one indeed. This is a relatively new family business, with Henri Sélèque planting vineyards in 1965, and bottling his own wine in 1969. The two sons, Richard and John started working in the business in 1974 – and finally bottling their own wines in 1981. Now we have Richard's eldest daughter Nathalie, and John's son Jean-Marc working in the business. JeanMarc is overseeing the viticultural side of the business, and at only 24 years of age, he is showing himself to be mature, focussed and passionate. Vineyard and environmental sustainability is paramount. Their 12 hectares of vineyards are spread across 40 parcels over eight different villages. Jean-Marc has worked in Bordeaux, California and at Domain Chandon in the Yarra Valley in 2008 with some fond memories and amazing stories of his time there. He is in the process of converting 7ha of vineyards to bio-dynamic viticulture. Most wines go through malo-lactic fermentation, and most of the reserve wines are stored in small oak barrels. SÉLÈQUE CUVÉE RESÉRVE EXTRA BRUT 60 % Chardonnay, 30 % of Pinot Meunier and 10 % of Pinot Noir, based on 2009 vintage, with 40 % of reserved wines, 20 % aged in foudres and oak barrels. Fermented in stainless steel tanks (80 %) and oak barrels (20 %) with lees stirring. Dosage 4gm/litre. More powerful and tighter. The lower dosage adds an extra element of freshness and minerality. VERRERIES DE LA MARNE LEHMANN GLASS Glassware – Reims

FLUTE OPALE

This classic 'elegant flute' is now a classic design and exclusive to us. The shape accentuates the subtle mousse, allowing to evolve slowly. Well known to our regular clients but still being discovered by our new clients. This is the best multi purpose sparkling wine glass. It balances perfectly in the hand, made from a new material called ‘Sonhyx’. Highly recommended. Only available in multiples of 6.

FLUTE PREMIUM

'

We first came across this glass during a Champagne Grower tasting in Epernay – the same tasting where we first came across the superb Champagnes of Jean-Marc Seleque. This is a much bigger glass than the Opale – more bulbous – hence capturing more vinous and toasty aromas. The intensity of these aromas is a real feature, making this glass a perfect table glass. Surprising – this glass also works well as a Pinot tasting glass. Many vignerons are using this glass as their regular 'cellar' tasting glass. Only available in multiples of 6. This series of glasses is known as 'Référence Jamesse' as it was specially designed in consultation with Philippe Jamesse – Head Sommelier at the prestigious Reims restaurant Les Crayeres'.

CUSTOMER DETAILS FAX ORDERS – PLEASE WRITE YOUR NAME ON BOTH PAGES Delivery instructions are important - enter delivery address below A business address that is open between 9am & 5pm where someone is able to receive the wine is preferable. However if we are delivering to a private address, Australia Post has the provision on its label for a brief instruction of where you are happy for wine to be left if no one is home. (i.e. on front porch under cover, in garage on left side of house, by front door out of weather etc.) If there is nowhere safe and nobody home they will leave a card and take delivery to nearest Australia Post outlet.
