PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Dear Friends,
As we start our 102nd season, I am honored and privileged to serve as your President. It is incredible to think that our golf club was founded way back in 1921 and we have been going strong ever since!
I often wonder what my favorite part of our club is…our golf course and practice facilities are world class and the clubhouse provides that special feeling of being at home. Dining at the club is akin to being in any of my favorite restaurants and celebrations at the club always leave me with lasting memories. That all being said, over the years, we have grown into much more than just a golf club with great food and amenities. We are truly a community of philanthropists using our love for golf to make a real difference in the lives of those around us.
BABES AGAINST CANCER
The Babes Against Cancer program (formerly known as the Babe Zaharias Tournaments) raises over $1 million annually through the joint efforts of country clubs in the New York Metro area. FMCC continues to be a stalwart in raising substantial sums to support the American Cancer Society and their mission of ending cancer as we know it. Our funds also contribute to cancer treatment for those who cannot afford it and to cancer awareness. Our efforts are led by a fabulous group of women, co-chairs Freddie Kadden and Judy Liman, and Ellen Grossman, Lana Bakhash, Sandy Seltzer, Ilene Schuman and Shari Iscaowitz. The annual luncheon event will be hosted at the club on July 11, 2023. There are many opportunities to support this great cause by attending the luncheon, placing an ad in their journal, and participating in their various outreach efforts.
UJA
For over a century, FMCC has been raising funds for important charities such as Babes Against Cancer, United Jewish Appeal, North Shore University Hospital, and the Caddy Scholarship Fund, amongst others. In my view, our golf club is much more than a group of golfers playing for personal pleasure. We are a team joined together by a shared commitment to making a change in the world. Of course, we all come together to enjoy and share our passion for golf, but it's the focus on giving back that sets us apart.
FMCC has also supported UJA with our annual UJA day including a golf tournament and lavish luncheon. UJA does so much for so many in caring for people in need, strengthening Jewish life, promoting justice and inclusion, and fighting against antisemitism. I am proud to announce that our long time members Phil and Stacey Malakoff have been selected to be honored by UJA at the North Shore Dinner to be held on September 27, 2023. I urge everyone to come out to support Phil and Stacey and this great cause.
CADDY SCHOLARSHIP FUND
The MGA Caddy Scholarship Fund grants awards to an average of 250 scholars a year, representing an annual one-year tuition commitment of $1.0 million. The Caddy Scholarship Fund is one of the largest organizations of its kind in the country and it serves to aid those caddies who strive for education but can not afford it. The donations made by all of us go a very long way to
It is an honor to be part of a club where the members continually demonstrate such heart, dedication, and generosity.
improving the lives of so many caddies who dedicate themselves to us on the golf course.
NORTH SHORE HOSPITAL
This institution needs no introduction. Our annual donation goes towards many programs that benefit the surrounding community. Advancing care across our community hospitals and in critical areas where the need is greatest; behavioral health, employee wellness, health equity, and cancer care. Country clubs like ours are seen as a symbol of wealth and status. While we offer a range of services and amenities geared towards enhancing our lifestyles, I fervently believe that we also have a responsibility to give back to the community. I also have no doubt that our charitable donations create a ripple effect, inspiring others to give back as well.
It is an honor to be part of a club where the members continually demonstrate such heart, dedication, and generosity. I am excited about the future of our club and the positive impact that we will continue to make in our community.
As we enter our 102nd season, I know that we will continue to make our mark as more than just a golf club and use our shared passion for golf to make a difference in the world. Thank you for all that you do for so many others.
Howard S. Hershenhorn, PresidentGENERAL MANAGER'S MESSAGE
The season has begun at our Club, and in stellar fashion. From golf, food and beverage, and events, our numbers have us at a start we haven’t seen in a while. Mother’s Day was the busiest day since 2017. Golf on weekends finds us with a full Tee sheet and then some.
We started happily early, four weeks earlier than previous years, and opened the lunch buffets as well to a busy dine-around.
Last fall, we launched a Sunday brunch and have yet to look back. Even the winter season had over 100 guests and new members from the local area and New York joined us with their families and friends. So Sunday brunch is here to stay at Fresh Meadow. We have new offerings, weekly specials, and a new display for pastries and baked goods to make it truly the best brunch on the Island and value.
Communication with the members has been a focus for us to ensure everyone knows what events and happenings are scheduled. Our new book app issuu, allows us to send a calendar, flyers, and menus with a link that, when opened reads like a book page by page and can be accessed by computer, phone, or tablet.
Our new Member Text program allows us to send out reminders, quick messages, and links to reels and flyers with the touch of a button. Statistics show emails get about a 20% open rate and about a 6% response rate. Texts have a near 98% open rate and a 45% response rate. Our reservation system, with opening dates and closing dates system, has worked well, and 96% of members make reservations
well in advance for events and dining. Notices are sent when the date reservations are open. Reservations are important and strongly suggested for all holidays and special events, as we saw Mother’s Day Brunch reach capacity within 12 days from the time reservations were opened. Reservations assist us in preparing and managing our goal to deliver a great member experience with better planning regarding labor and food production. Members with reservations now have reserved cards on the tables and preference of seating on a first come basis.
Ladies and gentleman serving ladies and gentleman.
An exciting summer and fall season awaits. The 255 Café at the pool features a new menu along with a new summer lunch menu in the main clubhouse. The Halfway House is streamlined with a new look and new offerings from on the menu, on tap tea and coffee, gelato made to order and much more.
Friday night dining sees solid participation in both the dine-around and the prix fixe a la carte dinner. It has fans from both sides of the membership, and we shall rotate the Friday nights for the remainder of the season. When possible, we will also look to do pop–up events on select nights. A Fresh Meadow dining guide will also be sent shortly, with information on all things culinary and front-of-house and club guidelines
for booking parties and events at Fresh Meadow.
for booking parties and events at Fresh Meadow.
A member survey will be sent to all members towards the end of summer and early fall. Feedback on club operations and other services will be offered as we continuously work to improve. The important part of the survey will be the member feedback and the future of Fresh Meadow as we start planning the muchneeded refresh of the clubhouse and essential repairs and look to the future with possibilities as a club workspace, casual eatery, and other exciting concepts that bring Fresh Meadow into the next chapter. Clubs all over are undergoing major renovations, building new facilities, and offering more amenities than ever.

You must post all acceptable scores on the day played, as your handicap index will be calculated after the conclusion of play each day. It is the responsibility of each player to post his or her score immediately after play. TheHandicap Committee monitors score posting. The focus of the Handicap Committee will be to ensure fairness during club tournaments as it is our goal to ensure fairness and accuracy in the way golfers are handicapped, in order

LADIES' BOARD PRESIDENT MESSAGE
Dear Fresh Meadow Members,
Welcome to all our new members and welcome back to all of you who were traveling.
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to those of you who may not know me. I have been a member at Fresh Meadow for 20 years together with my husband Steven Solomon. Steven grew up at Fresh Meadow where both his parents and grandparents were members.
We have carried on this tradition by raising our three sons at our beautiful club, where we celebrated many memorable family events. It is a great honor to serve as Ladies Board President of Fresh Meadow. Previously I served on the House Committee, the Entertainment Committee as well the Ladies Board as Chair of the Ladies Card Room. Outside of Fresh Meadow, I am on the Board of Trustees for the Village of Upper Brookville, where I have lived with my family for 25 years. I have served on the Zoning Board of Appeals, and prior to that on the Beautification Committee. I am an avid Canasta player and Life Master Bridge player.
The club is buzzing with actives to enjoy. Mother’s Day was a huge success, serving brunch then dinner with music too! All the families enjoyed celebrating Mom! Ladies' Opening Day was a great kick off to our summer season.

The Fresh Meadow Women’s Golf Team
As you may have heard, the Fresh Meadow Women’s Golf Team had a super season this past April/May 2023. The A Team, led by captain Pam Charles, won its series and will play in the top series next year. An incredible feat that came down to a major upset in the very last match! In Fresh Meadow’s 100 year history, there has never been a women’s golf team competing in Series 1.... until now. The other clubs in Series 1 are: North Shore Country Club, The Creek Club, Piping Rock Club, Lake Success Golf Club and Southward Ho Country Club.
Fresh Meadow’s B Team, led by captain Fawn Rich, also had a great season. They played well and were committed to improving. They came in fourth place in S eries 8, having a wonderful time along the way.

LADIES' GOLF CHAIRS MESSAGE
The ladies’ golf season is in full swing. Our women members started playing their WMGA team matches in late April and came out swinging with enthusiasm and gusto. Our First Team won Division 2 and are moving up to Division 1. This is the first time in FMCC history that we’ve had a golf team make it into Division 1. The FMCC Team 2 also was successful and won many points and rounds against very formidable competitors. Congrats to both teams!
Danny and his staff were busy in May with our Ladies Warm-Up Day and Opening Day. Both were a huge success and fully attended. Ladies Opening Day occurred on May 23rd. The colors for the day were blue and white. Everything including the weather was incredible and more than 50 women took to the course.
To highlight a few of our upcoming June ladies’ golf tournaments:
• Golf Friends Day (mini member-guest): June 6th
• Ryder Cup: June 13th
• Partners Better Ball: June 20th
Book Club News
We are thrilled to once again have Anna Katsavos at our Book Club to review the book "Counterfeit" by Kirstin Chen.
As you play on the course this season you will notice a few changes were made during the off season. Joe Gardner and his team completed new tee boxes on holes 9, 16, 17 & 18. This gives the women more options. The MGA/USGA rerated our course during the off season and our new scorecards cards reflect these changes. When reporting your score on GHIN/USGA, please select “Red” tees and not “Forward Red”.
And last but not least, if you have not met our newer golf pros, please introduce yourself to Ben Franjione and Drew Jenkins. Not only will you see them in the pro shop and offering lessons, they will be helping support the ladies golf program this season. If you ever have a question, please feel free to reach out to either of them or to us.
Hit them long and straight!
