The Lunar New Year Celebrations arrived at the Melbourne Market
On Tuesday 24th January, the Chinese Youth Society of Melbourne came into the market and performed blessings in the way of an ancient tradition called The Lion dance.
With drums pounding and symbols crashing, the dancers and their troupe made their way through the market. The performers jumped and tumbled around collecting and showering the store holders with their offerings of lettuce and other fruit they displayed in the front of their stores.
The Lion dance is one of the most important traditions of the Lunar New Year celebrations. It is performed to bring good luck and prosperity for the year ahead.
