Foreword
ABOUT TAIWAN DESIGN Well-known for its IT and bicycle industries, Taiwan ranks among the world market leaders in the product design sector. But there are also other creative fields which stand out with design quality and have not been discovered yet: artful tableware, sculptural home accessories and stylish furniture. With well-shaped and elaborate products, Taiwanese designers and manufacturers produce modern interpretations of their cultural roots.

By showcasing finely shaped products of eight Taiwanese brands, the second part of the “Taiwan Design� exhibition series grants insights into contemporary tradition in Taiwanese design. The up-to-date exhibits prove both the contrast and the symbiosis of tradition and modernity and illustrate the present design understanding in Taiwan: In various products, timely interpretations of traditional elements as well as innovative techniques paired with established craftsmanship testify to the contemporary Taiwanese culture.

A PROPOS DE TAIWAN DESIGN Plutôt connu pour ses produits High-Tech ou encore pour son industrie de Vélo et de Scooters, Taiwan se défend sur le marché des produits de design et s’affirme en tant que leader international dans ce secteur. Taiwan commence également à émerger dans d’autres domaines notamment en insistant sur la qualité du design et de la créativité: de la vaisselle ingénieuse, des accessoires de maison sculpturaux, et du mobilier de style. Avec des produits réfléchis et bien élaborés, les designers et fabricants Taiwanais produisent une œuvre moderne résultant de leurs interprétations culturelle.
Avec tout d’abord une présentation des produits de 8 marques Taiwanaises, la seconde partie de «Taiwan Design», et consacrée au dévouement du design Taiwanais pour les traditions modernes au sein de leurs produits. Cette exposition regroupant les dernières nouveautés affiche naturellement ce paradoxe de symbiose entre le moderne et la tradition, et illustre cette parfaite compréhension du design à Taiwan: de nombreux produits rappellent des éléments traditionnels tout en utilisant des techniques de fabrication innovantes, et un savoir-faire qui est la nouvelle preuve d’une culture Taiwanaise contemporaine.

"DAQI" signifie que la création de choses précieuses et de qualité prend du temps. Au sein de Daqi, nous sommes persuadés que le design nécessite une constante évaluation et révision. En tant que designers et ingénieurs, nous souhaitons créée des objets magnifiques avec un artisanat traditionnel tout en incluant les dernières technologies, de manière à améliorer les conditions de vie de l'utilisateur. “JinGoo．間關” Ces caractères chinois, plutôt utilisés dans la littérature ancienne, se prononcent de manière à imiter le son chantant des oiseaux. En redéfinissant le design artisanal et la technique d'élaboration, cette cage d'oiseau décorative apporte une touche orientale, tout en combinant lumière d'ambiance et stéréo Bluetooth.

ALLEYS LANDSCAPE Walking through hidden alleys in city, we explore window with iron grating of old building which reflects old time ambiance. In early Taiwan, hand-built windows with iron grating have magnificent and varied patterns. These patterns not only present architecture history also people’s life at that time. We apply these beautiful graphics to porcelain tableware which will accompany with our daily life forever. Lors de balades au milieu d'allées perdues du centre ville, nous sommes vite ramenés à explorer ces grillages métalliques arborant les fenêtres des anciens bâtiments, reflêt de cette atmosphère vieillissant. Dans un Taiwan plus ancien, ces protections métalliques, faites main, étaient souvent composées de motifs très variés. Ces motifs représentent non seulement un aspect historique de l'architecture du moment, mais reflètent
aussi la vie des gens à cette période. Ainsi, nous avons souhaité reprendre ces motifs en les incorporant à nos pièces de porcelaine pour nous accompagner dans la vie de tous les jours, et ce à l'infini. PANDA DESKTOP ORGANIZER Panda with black and white hair around the round body looks pretty cute, also has deeply obtained attention from people. Except sleep, it eats all the time. To see its image of grabbing bamboo with the glutton look on the rack is pretty entertaining.
SEA OTTER MULTIFUNCTIONAL TRAY Sea otters often eat at the water's surface, lying on their backs in a posture of serene repose. They sleep this way, often gathered in groups. We derive inspiration from its living habits. People can put anything on this multifunctional rack such as fruits, bread, keys, etc. Les loutres de mer occupent très souvent cette posture, sur le dos, à la surface de l'eau; plus particulièrement pour manger, dormir, seul mais aussi en groupe. COLORUP ColorUp is a lamp that can mimic the color of any object or surface. By using the color frequencies detecting and transforming technique, users are able to suck in few hundred frequencies of colors and beam it through the light bulb. In just a few folding steps, the leather or metal card turns into a reindeer sculpture that can be set up easily.

VASE The product has a handblown glass vase with a Jesmonite casted top which has been buried up to oxidised for three days, allowing the texture and colour to naturally form. Ce produit est un vase de verre soufflé à la main, en haut duquel se dresse un goulot en résine acrylique Jesmonite, précédemment enterrée jusqu'à trois jours entiers pour permettre à sa texture et sa couleur d'apparaître naturellement.
TEA LIGHT HOLDER The tea light holder collection covers up a range of techniques which each showcase it’s uniqueness and individuality. Japanese art of pottery repairing – “Kintsugi”. Kintsugi treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise. We created a new casting method inspired by this ancient technique to repair cracked Jesmonite with tin and bismuth alloy. As a result, the product presents a beautiful and elegant platform to compliment precious jewelleries.
LED NIGHTLIGHT The LED nightlight gently defusing the light emitted inside the Jesmonite base through a bubble embedded perspex bar. Each torch has a built in rechargeable battery, and is magnetically attached to the charging base. This allows light source to be able to carry away around the house or out to backyard. THE INSECT SERIES The fantasy and diversity of the insect designs manifest Tsia Erh Ping's vision in pursuit of a colorful life. The insects' vitality collocated with the splendid colors perfectly interprets the never fading aesthetics of the insects, and the wearer infused with the adornments into one exudes the temperament and charm only a woman has to offer.
Ces insectes aux formes et couleurs raffinées font de la nature leur maison, reflêtant la vision de Tsai Erh-Ping dans la poursuite d'une vie colorée. THE LIZARD SERIES The series of the lizard is the most well-known in Tsia Erh Ping's numerous artworks. Moreover, it is favored by Hollywood actors, celebrities and the Secretary of the United State. In his artwork, it would not only be a wearable adornment such as a ring, but also can be a decorative art. After being refined and crafted, his artworks become the unique works in the world. The Industrial Development Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs is a key department for Taiwan’s industrial development, working professionally, efficiently, proactively and innovatively. It strongly supports the development based on industrial needs, providing guidance for the evolution of new industries as well as the upgrade and transformation of existing industries. The Industrial Development Bureau aims to raise productivity and make Taiwan more competitive in the world. Therefore, it provides comprehensive assistance to business enterprises in overcoming investment obstacles.
Le Bureau de développement industriel du ministère des Affaires économiques de Taïwan est un département jouant un rôle majeur dans le développement industriel de Taïwan grâce à son travail professionnel, efficace, proactif et innovateur. Afin de soutenir au mieux le développement basé sur les besoins industriels, il conseille les entreprises sur l’évolution des nouvelles industries ainsi que sur la modernisation et la transformation des industries existantes. Il a pour but d’augmenter la productivité et de rendre Taïwan plus compétitif sur le marché mondial. LE TAIWAN DESIGN CENTER (TDC)
The Taiwan Design Center (TDC) is an integrated service platform to promote creative design and economic development in Taiwan, which are the key to the upgrading of national competitiveness. To promote the development of the cultural and creative industry, the government has established the TDC in 2003. It became officially operational in 2004. Ever since, its main mission is to upgrade original creativity of Taiwanese designers, promote international design exchanges, improve market competitiveness of Taiwanese industries, help enterprises build up their own brand, raise the added value of the said industries, and tell the world that the era of “Designed in Taiwan” has come.
Le TDC est une plate-forme intégrée de services visant à promouvoir la créativité des designs et l’expansion économique à Taïwan, facteursclés du renforcement de la compétitivité au niveau national. Afin d’encourager le développement de l’industrie culturelle et créative, le gouvernement a créé le TDC en 2003, officiellement opérationnel depuis 2004. Sa mission principale a été de promouvoir l’originalité dans les créations des designers taïwanais, les échanges de design au niveau international et la compétitivité des industries taïwanaises ainsi que d’augmenter leur valeur ajoutée et d’aider les entreprises à créer leur propre marque pour dire au monde entier que le temps du «conçu à Taïwan» était arrivé.
