Comic Books and Beyond INSTRUCTOR: Nicole Parcher, Visiting Artist
Whether it’s a zine, a chapter from that graphic novel you’ve been working on, or a good old fashioned comic book, Nicole will help you bring your vision to life. Learn to combine original ideas with words and images from video games, TV, and the internet to produce a unique artistic style. Open to 1st–4th Graders. WORKSHOP FEE: $195
Karma Kids Circus Yoga!
Circus Yoga blends yoga with the communal celebration of circus. Here, we foster connection, play, trust and skill building through a wide range of experiences, including Group Games, Flying Partner Yoga, Partner Acrobatics, Circus Skills (such as juggling, balancing, spinning plates, devil sticks, etc.), and more. Enjoy the spirit of community as we explore circus and yoga that is both accessible and adventurous. And learn how to "FLY". Open to 2nd–4th Graders.
TENNIS with Children’s Athletic Training School Be part of this innovative program that allows us to offer tennis instruction right here at Friends! Perfected by veteran tennis professionals and child education specialists, CATS lessons and exercises are carefully tailored to support children’s physical and motor skill development. Children will learn how to swing, volley and use proper footwork. With a focus on fair play and positive attitude, students will play real games each week. Open to K–3rd Graders. WORKSHOP FEE: $375

Kick off the third trimester with a spirited drive toward the end zone. Whether our field is the outer courtyard or the playroof, “touch-tackle” rules will ensure safety and excitement while we run, block and pass for yards. This is an allweather class so lace up your boots and grab a pair of gloves because were playing straight till June. Fun is only a first down away! Open to 2nd–4th Graders. WORKSHOP FEE: $375
Mock Trial, Public Speaking and Debate! PARKER-ANDERSON ENRICHMENT
Are you a person of passion and conviction, with a love for critical thinking and dialogue. In this class, students learn to use logic and other rhetorical tools to support their positions and to express themselves succinctly and skillfully. Students learn to walk and talk with assuredness and purpose, overcome jitters, and deliver speeches with confidence and animation. Open to 2nd–4th Graders. WORKSHOP FEE: $250
Building exciting mechanized machines from Lego components including motors and remote control infra-red activation. Models include Hummer, Dune buggy, Airplane, Carousel, Windmill, Ferris Wheel Elevator and many others. Students will learn the scientific principles underlying these machine, including centrifugal and centripetal forces, power transmissions, potential and kinetic energy, torque, inertia, angular momentum. Experience hands-on multi-sensory, fun-filled experimental learning which helps develop creativity, organization, imagination and team work. Open to K–2nd Graders. WORKSHOP FEE: $375

Fourth Graders can jump start their homework every day of the week. This program will provide students with the help and structure they need to complete their assignments.

Each week the group will prepare both savory and sweet dishes from a new country or region, while also learning about one important local ingredient from each area. We will prepare everything from orange cupcakes and mini pizzas when we discuss Italy to warm soba noodles with dipping sauce when we venture to Japan. On the last day, the chefs will receive a Culinary Travelers cookbook to celebrate their hard work. The cookbooks will show photos of the food they prepared, their collective progress along the way, and include the original recipes. No previous cooking experience is required, just a hunger to try new things! Open to 2nd–4th Graders. WORKSHOP FEE: $225

Sewing Studio INSTRUCTOR: Nelly Agron, Costume Designer
Creating, through the delicate art of sewing, has never been so much fun! Students will construct their very own projects such as a stuffed animal, pillows, dolls, or handbags, all made from bright and colorful fabrics. You can also learn how to do embroidery! No sewing experience necessary! Open to 1st–4th Graders. INSTRUCTION AND MATERIAL FEE: $300
INSTRUCTOR: Jorge Cruz, Character Sculptor
Using special modeling clay, instructors from Miami Beach’s Clay World will help students create figurines and animals, people, monsters and more! All creations built during class can be taken home. Adventures in Art INSTRUCTOR: Nora Chavooshian, Artist + Designer
Start with a mess and end up with art! In this combination workshop of 2D and 3D projects, you will learn how to build creations such as toys, sculptures and life-like models, as well as paint and draw with opaque and transparent mediums, including Tie Dye! By using multiple materials you’ll discover that there are way more than three dimensions to our creativity! MATERIAL FEE: $175
Soccer Time with Warren INSTRUCTOR: Warren Salandy, Friends PE Teacher and Coach
Join Friends Soccer Coach Warren as he introduces young players to the great game of Soccer. This program will focus on individual skill, fitness and sportsmanship, providing an opportunity for children to be challenged through fun games and team interaction. Let's get kicking! Child’s Play NY: Shakespeare in Play
A theater class that introduces young people to Shakespeare’s dramatic masterpieces in a way that is accessible, enriching and fun. As part of the Shakespeare ensemble, students will learn the plot of several famous plays and act out the salient points through long form improvisations. They will work on monologues and scenes from a Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Tempest, Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet. In addition to being a great scene study / monologue class, the students are instilled with cultural and literary references from the wisdom of these plays that they will utilize for years to come. Games surrounding the characters and their incredible conflicts, desires and stories make the class a joyous exploration of both theater and Shakespeare. Open to 3rd–4th Graders. WORKSHOP FEE: $275

One of the safest sports around and a proven workout. FATsters have the opportunity to join the blading craze by learning the moves from an “inline” pro! Drama Zone’s Musical Theatre: The Wizard of Oz!
Come join Dorothy, Scarecrow, Lion and Toto on this magical journey through Oz! Each class teaches singing, dancing and acting in preparation for a show at the end of the year for friends and family! Classes include a technical dance class with age appropriate choreography, singing instruction, teaching breath support and projection as well as Acting exercises developed to improve speech and confidence. Then let the rehearsals begin. Class will end at 5:00 pm. Open to 2nd–4th Graders. WORKSHOP FEE: $475
Chem Kidz!
cooking while learning about nutrition, food science, and international cuisines. You'll cook (and eat!) every class, with the final class concluding with a cook off! Jr. Detectives: Spy Kids! PARKER-ANDERSON ENRICHMENT
Learn all about crime scene investigation and forensic work. Take fingerprints, decode secret messages, search for clues and so much more. Explore the fascinating world of solving mysteries and develop observation and reasoning skills. Open to K–1st Graders. WORKSHOP FEE: $300
Coding Explorations INSTRUCTOR: Judith Seidel, Tech Integrator
Students will learn new coding possibilities and develop Independent coding projects with Scratch 2.0 and in mBlockly a Scratch-like language for the mBOT robot. Scratch 2.0 topics will include constructing games with scrolling backgrounds, using variables for keeping score, and using “turtle” geometry to create stencils. mBot topics will include using an ultrasonic sensor and coding the mBot so that several robots can communicate with one another. Open to students in 3rd and 4th grade. Limited to 8. WORKSHOP FEE: $300
Parker-Anderson Enrichment
Chemistry is amazing. Conduct physical and chemical experiments and learn what makes them work. Make your own desiccators and Elephant Toothpaste, grow aluminum and copper sulfate crystals, and get ready for an instant snowstorm! All reactions are done outdoors and students wear protective goggles! Open to 2nd-4th Graders. WORKSHOP FEE: $300

Join us for a Star Wars Yoga adventure. Each week we will train using our yoga Jedi mind force to get through the obstacle courses on Naboo, balance work over the swamps of Dagobah, outsmart the AT-AT's on Hoth, learn the art of trade from Jawa masters, use the force to locate challenges left by Obi Wan...all leading to the final test...face off agains Darth Vader. Will your Jedi choose the light or dark side of the force? Costumes are encouraged. WORKSHOP FEE: $350

Mission Solvers
Are you a Mission Solver? “Can you think outside the box in order to discover what is inside the box?” Participants will need to work together, using their critical and creative thinking, to be able to solve the weekly Mission. They will need to find hidden objects, solve puzzles, and unlock boxes before time runs out. Such games include Road Trip USA, The Riddler, Mad Scientist, and Treasure Island, just to name a few. Open to 2nd–4th Graders. WORKSHOP FEE: $300
Take me to the water

Whether you are a beginning swimmer or you want to join a swim team, we make swimming fun. Join the Take me to the Water Swim School at one of our private heated indoor swimming pools. All classes are small groups (1 -on -2 to 2- on -4) based on each child’s age and ability. Our expert instructors specialize in teaching children, using our unique and creative technique that encourage them to advance their skills. Group returns at 5:30pm. Pinch, roll, carve, model…explore and push the limits of clay’s structural properties. We will create animals, landscapes and abstract constructions as well as cups, plates and bowls. All students will take home fired and glazed work. WORKSHOP FEE: $195
Basketball Stars of NY
Basketball Stars are back at Friends to provide you with the best basketball instruction from the top coaches in the city! Join our after school program and learn how to play the game the right way while participating in weekly games. The program is carefully constructed to teach you the right way to shoot, defend, rebound and much more. Coaches from Basketball Stars include former Division 1 College players. Science Explorers
Come join Science Explorers and begin your adventure into the wacky world of hands-on, interactive, FUN science! Our young scientists will have the opportunity to build and launch their own rocket, make crystals from every day kitchen items, and even find out how science pops the best popcorn! Every week is filled with new and exciting experiments they create and then bring home, all while learning about the scientific method in a STEM focused curriculum. Our motto is, "If it's not fun, we're not doing it!" WORKSHOP FEE $275
Construct a Singing Quilt INSTRUCTOR: Judith Seidel, Tech Integrator
Students will each sew and program a small lap or hanging quilt that sings. After they choose a group of four mammals or birds, each animal will be depicted on a quilt square. When the animal or bird is touched, the quilt will play that mammal's or bird's sound or song. Basic sewing skills are recommended. Open to 3rd and 4th Graders. Limited Enrollment. Students will be able to take their electronic quilt home at the end of the year. WORKSHOP FEE $400

Come sing! This is an opportunity for motivated, enthusiastic singers and vocalist to explore more challenging choral material. With enough participation, part singing will be introduced along with popular songs and special youthoriented choral arrangements. Healthy and natural development of the young person’s singing voice is the underlying principle of the group. Open to 2nd–4th Graders. WORKSHOP FEE: $300
Dodgeball INSTRUCTOR: Craig Masters, Average Joe
Finally, a sports game for the masses! Whether you like to charge the line with a CC Sabathia throwing arm or prefer to hide and wait with the sneakiness of a chess master, dodgeball offers fun and excitement to every style of player. We will mix it up by alternating between the three sets of rules—Army, Jailhouse and Elimination. Open to 2nd–4th Graders.
Child’s Play NY: Mini Musical: Moana
Come travel with us beyond the reef to save the heart of our island! We dive into the "realm of monsters", and shape-shift with our favorite demigod, as we bravely find the hero inside us! We'll craft a magical fish-hook and sing as Moana and Maui with live accompaniment. Open to K–2nd Graders. WORKSHOP FEE $275
Chess Club INSTRUCTOR: Peter Barkman, Chess Master
Open to players of all levels. Beginners will be introduced to the fundamentals of the game, including basic strategy and tactics. More advanced students will study and learn correct opening strategy, middle game planning and basic end game theory. Children will also be taught how to read and write chess notation. MAGIC and Circus Arts with After School Magic
No red noses or silly rabbits here…After School magic students will learn mysterious and incredible skills ranging from top-secret slight of hand and mind reading methods to ancient Chinese YoYo and juggling techniques. Each class will introduce new and exciting, yet challenging activities that you can master and add to your repertoire. Build your confidence, be creative and amaze everyone with your new talents. Skateboarding with SKATEYOGI

Hop on the bus as we head to SKATEYOGI for a private session at their indoor skate facility in Brooklyn. There’s something for everyone whether you’re a seasoned thrasher or just starting out—no experience necessary! For beginners, we will cover the basics of skateboarding such as balance, pushing off, and turning. The more advanced will learn to drop-in, pump the transitions and shred the street obstacles. Featuring veteran skaters talking skills and demonstrating favorite tricks. Skateboard, pads and helmet included. Group will return at 5:30pm. TRANSPORTATION AND INSTRUCTION FEE: $500

Registrations will not be processed unless accompanied by payment in full. Please make all checks payable to Friends Seminary, and send to the attention of FAT, not to the Business Office. Phone registrations will not be accepted. Tuition aid is available. A maximum of 75% financial aid is available to those who receive aid for the academic year. Please call for details. Children may drop or change a class within the first two weeks of the trimester. If space is available, children may add classes at any time but classes will not be pro-rated. After March 17, 2017, refunds or credits will not be given for changes to enrollment status. Classes may be canceled due to insufficient enrollment.
