L oc a tion A na lysis Address: 3900 Esplande Way, Tallahassee, FL Area: Southwood Climate: Summer: 92/71 Winter: 70/50 - Long summers, short winters - High levels of humidity Immediate Surroundings: Mix of residential to East and West and Medical to the South Parking: To the immediate North and West of the site (labeled as “ P ”) Staff Entrance: West side of the site Patient Entrance: North of the site

7

Notes from site visit: - Dr. Standridge wants to reduce travel times in any way possible - Nurse’s Station is tight because it is a means of circulation - Wants as many exam rooms and offices with windows as possible

Design Implications: - Waiting area should have a brighter and LIGHTER COLOR to reduce feelings of heat from the Tallahassee weather - Staff restroom should be located towards the West side of the site to streamline their day - Nurse’s station should NOT be a means of circulation

Reception Desk:

This reception desk features a series of intersecting planes. These planes, though angular, support one another and create a sense of dynamism in the form itself. This desk has check-in heights for both able bodied and disabled patients, as well as plenty of desk space for the receptionists to work.

28

design development | waiting room

Waiting Room After checking in, patients are led to the waiting room. Here, formal elements meet agency. The space features seating for all - arm chairs for the elderly, floor space for children, seating for bariatric patients, and benching for business people. The subtle complementary colors

29

create balance and emphasize planar forms.

design development | waiting room

design development | nurses’ station

Nurses’ Station Designed for all, the nurses’ station and exam area is a collection of universal design and practicality. The station desk is built to bar height so that providers may maintain their health while at work. The signage on each door is illuminated to lead the eye of patients to

33

their destinations.

design development | nurses’ station

Additional Notes: - Triangular motif can be found in the lighting feature at the nurses’ station as well as the acoustical paneling on the walls and the exam room flags - To exemplify tessellation, the desk at the nurses’ station features a dropped desk for accessibility. Where this section drops down, the signage makes up for in the ceiling, creating a balanced image.
