Ar:q 21 (?) Went to Middleton with Mr. Clinch uho opened a telegh office in the Ry Station, I was the first operator there. Was there tiII the next summer, Salary $10. per month & board (at S. Prat's). 1870 was then removed to Annapolis as operator : salary raised to $25. per month, payinq my own board ($10.) LB72 In April LB72 resigned and went to St.John N.B. where wqent to work in the W.U. office at $33.33 per month, boardingr at my Uncle Wm H. Hoyt's on Princess Street (No.77) - Went home to spend Xmas LB72 (L11y married June. ) 1873 About the beglnning of this year Mr. Clinch asked me to go to Sackville N.B. & made my salary $41-.-- but relieved the Amherst op'r for a couple of weeks previously to going there, staylng at Lamy's Hotel At Sackvl11e there was a staff of about B operators Mr. J.Rainnie was manager for W.U. & Mr.E.B.Dixon for the Momtl Te1 Co- I was senior operator for W.U.(Lew came to Sackville the following spring from Hfx) Boarded at Brunswick Hotet 1875 Inb Nov. was tranferred by Mr. Clinch to No.Sydney arriving there on the 6th I think salary $50. The oprs were compelled to board at the W.U.Hotel kept by one McNeil It was a miserable place & a constant source of grievances to the staff, who were always complaining but got little satisfactlon - They qot very litt1e sympathy from the manager Mr.Snyder
