Montana
Take Your Travel Experience Further: The Hosted Trip Difference Unparalleled Service and Knowledge Every Step of the Way Dear Traveler, We’ve seen the Bighorn go through many ups and downs over the years of hosting trips to this great river. Today’s Bighorn is a much different fishery with bragging rights of fish averaging 16”- 20”, with many above 20”. Gone are the 50 fish days with a lot of juvenile fish. Quality has replaced quantity, and as we head into the 2020’s we look forward to a more mature fishery. With many good rivers to choose from, we believe that the Bighorn is still the most dependable, most consistent river in the west. We plan our trips for dry fly fishing – tricos, caddis, hoppers, and mahoganies. The Bighorn is a gentle, easy to wade river with many side channels to explore, and while it is a popular river, one can still get away and not see another fisherman for hours. Our lodge of choice is Brock and Jenny Bodecker’s Kingfisher Lodge. Positioned on the river with private access, the lodge offers comfortable, spacious accommodations, fine cuisine, and our choice of the best guides on the river – guides who have been with us for many seasons and know the river like the back of their hand. Want to catch fish? Come with us to the Bighorn. Sincerely,
What to Expect
• Swarms of tiny tricos will darken the sky on the still calm late summer mornings when there is no breeze and the patient angler who waits for the insects to come to the water will be richly rewarded with some of the best dry fly fishing of the year. • Being located a couple hundred yards from the 3-mile access means you can be two minutes away from your put-in at the beginning of the day. • There are big fish that the late summer hopper fishing can produce and the quiet summer evenings with swarms of black caddis on the water, fish rising, and no one in sight.
About the Lodge
Kingfisher Lodge: Expertly owned and operated by Brock and Jenny Boedecker, Kingfisher Lodge began guiding fly fishing anglers on the Bighorn River in south-central Montana shortly after the river opened to the public in 1981. The combination of quality guides at this world-renowned trout fishery along with comfortable accommodations and home-cooked meals make for the fly fishing vacation of a lifetime. The river is acknowledged as one of the greatest trout fisheries in the world, and many consider it to be the best blueribbon trout stream in the Lower 48.
