Argentina is revered as a sportsman’s paradise offering diverse fisheries and abundant wildlife alike. Undoubtedly, the longest standing tradition and arguably the most prestigious are the volume dove shoots among the rolling hills and vast agricultural tracts of the central Cordoba Province. Some may say Argentina is where it all began - and to a shooter - the mere mention of birds in Argentina leads the discussion to Cordoba and her clouds of eared doves, field Asados and post shoot Malbec wines. It is a trip I repeat often and each visit brings a different experience than the last. In the fishing world, the new tough kid on the block is the golden dorado. They have taken fly fishing by storm. As a young fly fisher in coastal west Florida and then moving to the semi-arid Sawtooth’s of Idaho as an adult, I have had the luxury of fishing for nearly every species in the continental United States. Joining Frontiers in 1999, that experience broadened to four continents and so many species that I have literally lost count. Arguably no species has influenced me as much as the golden dorado. The magnificence of these fish has a magnetic draw and anglers will often find themselves obsessed in their pursuit after the first strike. The braided Parana River is more reminiscent of the Everglades, Florida Bay or the Yucatan and the dorado’s feeding style is like that of giant snook, tarpon or coastal stripers. Both freshwater and saltwater anglers will find this fishery exceptional. As two of the premiere species in Argentina, it only made sense to offer Frontiers travelers the opportunity for an all-inclusive cast and blast excursion that embraces both experiences. Featuring four nights at Alto Parana for dorado, pacu and pira pita, and then a smooth connection to Cordoba for three nights of volume dove shooting inclusive of all, but shells and gratuities. Sample Itinerary Day 1
Depart USA via overnight commercial flight service to Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Day 2
Arrive in Buenos Aires, Ezeiza International Airport. You will be met at the airport by your Frontiers representative who will assist with your luggage and transfer to the city and the domestic airport for your flight to Posadas, Argentina. Depart Buenos Aires for Posadas, Argentina. Arrive in Posadas and transfer – approximately 1 hour - to Alto Parana Lodge. Time for orientation and unpacking, fishing is included if your flight time permits. Alto Parana Lodge offers four bedrooms for four to six anglers total.
Day 3 - 5
Enjoy three full days of fishing the clear waters of the Parana River bordering Argentina and Paraguay in a custom built river skiff. Fish the morning and afternoon and return to the lodge during the mid-day heat for lunch and siesta.
Day 6
This morning your guide will provide a transfer from the Alto Parana Lodge to the Posadas airport approximately 1-hour for your flight to Cordoba via Buenos Aires and provide assistance with check-in. Depart Posada airport via commercial flight service to Cordoba. Arrive in Cordoba. Upon arrival at the airport, the airport hostess / coordinator for David Denies Dove Shooting will meet you. Then, you will be transferred to the fields to enjoy your first high-volume shooting session. Return to one of our three Cordoba lodges after your shoot. Enjoy cocktails, dinner with your guides, and overnight accommodations at La Dormida, Pica Zuro or Cordoba Lodge.
Day 7 - 8
Two full days of high-volume eared dove shooting in the Cordoba area. You will be placed in the hills or along tree lines in the fields, where you will encounter virtually every shot imaginable. A fantastic lunch will be served in the traditional Asado style in the field, weather permitting. After time for a little siesta, continue hunting in the afternoon until dusk. Return each evening to the lodge for cocktails, dinner and overnight accommodations.
Day 9
Spend your morning shooting. After lunch at the lodge and packing, your guide will provide your transfer to the airport in CĂłrdoba and assist with check-in for your flight home. Depart Cordoba to Buenos Aires or Santiago, and continue with overnight flight service back to the USA.
Day 10
Arrive home.
Rates 7-night / 3-day fishing / 3-day shooting combo - $5,995 per guest based on double occupancy and even group numbers. Including 4 nights at Alto Parana Lodge, 3 nights at La Dormida or Pica Zuro Lodge, fishing licenses, Buenos Aires transfers per the itinerary, *round-trip Buenos Aires / Posadas fights, *round-trip Buenos Aires/Cordoba flights, Alto Parana and Cordoba transfers, shotgun rental and hunting licenses. *Package based on internal flight availability.
