What to expect
No Name Fly Lodge primarily targets tarpon and permit. Guests can expect a fun, free-flowing program that consists of seldom-fished waters and nights full of island culture and cuisine. This program consistently produces excellent opportunities to fish for hungry tarpon with experienced guides. Our anglers love the number of shots they get at unpressured juvenile and adult tarpon, as well as the opportunity for shots at tailing permit on the flats. The lodge is located in Boquerón, PR, a small village on the southwest corner of the island, with colorful architecture and an exciting downtown to explore after days on the water. Travel is easy, and because Puerto Rico is a U.S. Territory, there are no passports needed and no customs to clear.
Tarpon fishing at No Name is some of the best in the world. These fish face less angling pressure than most other destinations, making for more cooperative, fly-friendly fish.
This program offers a wide variety of settings for a range of angler skill and weather conditions. There are mangrove areas that are protected from the wind as well as open flats similar to those in the Keys.
At Boqueron, permit fishing is often done on foot in the surf, while tarpon fishing is mostly done from the skiffs. At the sister location, Salinas, permit and tarpon fishing may be done from a skiff.
Skiffs are trailered to a nearby boat ramp each morning to start the day with shorter runs to productive water.
TARPON
Tarpon fishing at No Name Fly Lodge is an awesome experience, offering anglers the chance to hook into aggressive fish in the gin-clear waters of Puerto Rico’s southern coast. These tarpon are less wary than those in more heavily fished areas, providing more frequent and exciting encounters. Anglers can expect numerous shots at tarpon in the 20-70 pound range, with the opportunity to catch 15-40 pound fish on gurglers in the morning.
As the day progresses, larger cruising tarpon can be found using classic tarpon patterns. The island’s diverse habitat allows anglers to fish the most productive areas depending on the season, weather conditions, and tidal movement. With experienced guides leading the way, tarpon fishing at No Name Fly Lodge is an adventure that will challenge and excite any angler.
PERMIT
Permit fishing in Puerto Rico is an adventure that challenges even the most seasoned anglers. The fishing takes place on a series of pancake-style flats that act as the barrier reef to southern Puerto Rico. These flats, surrounded by majestic reefs, offer the perfect habitat for tailing permit. Depending on the tides and conditions, permit can be targeted on foot or from the skiff.
Permit are notoriously difficult to catch, but the rewards are well worth the effort! The permit in Puerto Rico receive less fishing pressure than in other Caribbean destinations, yet they still present a formidable challenge.
TRAVEL
Traveling to Puerto Rico from the United States is straightforward and convenient. Passports are not required for American citizens. Most guests fly into San Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU), where they can either take a short charter flight to Mayaguez, or arrange for a ground transfer to Boquerón. Once at the lodge, each day begins with a 20-40 minute drive on quiet rural roads to the town ramp, followed by a short skiff ride to the fishing grounds.
