SEAN BROWN, Sr. HEAD COACH 2nd Season Sean Brown, Sr. is entering his second season as the school’s head men’s basketball coach after being hired from a national search in May of 2018. Brown is the 14th head coach in the 77–year history of the Bobcat program and he is no stranger to Frostburg as he earned both his bachelors (2003) and masters (2005) degrees from Frostburg and served as an assistant coach from 2002-04 and again from 2007-15. In his first season, Brown guided the program to a 10-16 overall record, which included a 97-86 victory at No. 24 Salisbury. Under Brown, the Bobcats ranked 13th in the nation with 5.2 blocks per game. Senior Edwin Cole led the CAC with 47 blocked shots, including a season-best nine against Eastern Mennonite. As a team, the Bobcats matched the school record for blocked shots (14) in the 89-75 victory over EMU. The Bobcats had the most prolific three-point shooting performance in program history in a win at Mary Washington. Frostburg knocked down 15-of-24 threes (62.5%) to set FSU’s three-point percentage record and match the program’s school record for three-pointers made. Terry Kenner made a program-best eight threepointers in the win. The duo of Cole and junior Daniel Alexander were named to the 2019 All-CAC teams. Alexander was named to the first team while Cole was named to the second team for the second-consecutive season. Cole capped his career becoming the 19th player in program history to reach 1,000 points and Alexander led the CAC in field goals made (167). Brown inherited a Bobcat squad that returned three starters and eight total players from the 2017-18 CAC Tournament team. Junior Edwin Cole, along with sophomores Daniel Alexander and Lawrence Pettis, Jr. all scored over 300 points during the 2017-18 campaign, while Cole finished fourth in the nation in offensive rebounding (4.27) and 10th in total blocks (68).

SEASON PREVIEW Head coach Sean Brown enters his second season at the helm of the Frostburg State men’s basketball team. The Bobcats return eight players as they begin their first season at the Division II level as members of the Mountain East Conference. “We expect our guys to go out and put out a really good competitive fight every night,” Brown said about his expectations for the team. “That’s the one thing that we’re asking our guys to do. To compete every night and try to dominate their matchup every night.” Year in Review The Bobcats finished 10-16 (6-8 CAC) last season, good enough for fifth in the Capital Athletic Conference. FSU’s season was highlighted by a mid-January victory over No. 24 Salisbury on the road. Their season would come to an end in the first round of the CAC Tournament with a 78-76 overtime loss to the Seagulls. Frostburg will need to replace last year’s leading rebounder and second-leading scorer Edwin Cole. Cole averaged 15.2 points per game and 9.7 rebounds per game and registered 13 double-doubles for a Bobcat team that finished second in the CAC in rebounding. “It’s going to be tough to replace Ed,” Brown said. “Edwin was a double-double machine… He was a work horse, he was a grinder.”

STEPHENS Headliners The Bobcats welcome back four starters from last year’s squad, led by All-CAC First Team honoree senior Daniel Alexander. Alexander finished second in the CAC in scoring last season with 17.9 points per game and finished second on the team with 6.1 rebounds per game. Alexander enters his senior season 105 points shy of 1,000 for his career. “Daniel Alexander has had a really big summer and also a really big fall,” Brown said. “His preseason has been really good. We kind of transitioned him to the point guard position.” Fellow senior Lawrence Pettis Jr. returns coming off of a season in which he averaged 10.8 points per game, good enough for third on the team. His strongest skillset lies in his ability to distribute the basketball, as he was tops on the team and second in the CAC last season with 4.3 assists per game. His 313 career assists rank fifth all-time in program history. “We are expecting him to come out and do what he’s done in the CAC the last two years in being top two or top three in assists and be a scoring threat,” Brown said. “We are

ALEXANDER

expecting Lawrence to pick up where he left off in the CAC.” Terry Kenner started 13 games last season for the Bobcats, averaging 9.8 points per game and shooting just under 40 percent from the floor. “He can really heat up fast and he provides instant offense for us,” Brown said of the senior guard “We’d like for him to look to play make a little more and also bring more energy to the game which he can provide.” Torrin Stephens started 13 games last season and is back for his sophomore season

SEASON PREVIEW have made the NCAA Division II Final Four three times since 2013. West Liberty is the pick to win the conference this season. “Every year they are one of the best teams in the country,” Brown said. “For almost a year now we have been watching West Liberty and what they do and trying to model our team to beat them. To be the best you have to beat the best.” 2019-20 Season Opener Frostburg State begins their 2019-20 season in Raleigh, N.C. against Shaw University on Friday, November 8 at 6:00 p.m. For up-to-date game information, including live stats and video streaming, visit frostburgsports.com. 2019-20 Men’s Basketball Preseason Poll 1. in Frostburg. The Bobcats also welcome back senior Demetrich Williams, junior Sean Patterson, and sophomores Bo Schene and Jamil Jones. New Faces The Bobcats welcome 12 new faces to the program for the 2019-20 season, including graduate transfer JR Kerr. The 6 foot 6 inch guard/forward transfers in from Glenville State and will play an integral role in the Bobcats’ bench unit. “He can hit the three, he can put it on the floor, he can score at the rim, he can play inside and out,” Brown said. “We are going to look for him to do a lot of good things for us this year.” First-year Jaylon Johnson will find minutes this season for the Bobcats. The Baltimore native has opened some eyes with his play during preseason. “He had a really big preseason so we are hoping that translates into real life game reps,” Brown said. “We are getting his feet wet in these preseason games and scrimmages and he is showing up.” Johnson is one of five first-years on the Bobcats roster. He joins fellow guards Jordan Miller and Tyler Rodeheaver, as well as forwards Marcellus Carroll and Makhai Hopkins.
