PREPARENG THE PDF OF ENTERNAH BOOI PAGES Margins You should have at least a I.Q%” margin on all sides of the page. We strongly recommend having at least I.%I” on the outside margin and I.O%” on the inside margin.

Bleeds If you wish to have any artwork bleed to the edge of your internal pages, please make sure the bleed is at least I.!Q%”

Emage Resolution and Color Mode All artwork in your submitted book cover PDF must have a resolution of RII dpi (dots per inch) and must be set to grayscale color mode. All fonts, images/graphics must be embedded in your submitted PDF. Please remove any crop marks, color bars or registration marks in your final artwork PDF, as they may interfere with our printing and binding methods.

PDF Output SiJes Your internalpages PDF output size should be the exact size of your final trimmed book unless your internal pages have a bleed. Then the final output size should be as follows: Height: Height of Top Bleed + Height of Trimmed Book + Bottom Bleed Height Width: Width of Outside Bleed + Width of Trimmed Book For example, if your final book size is M” x N” and you have a I.!Q%” bleed, then your final output size would be M.!Q%” x N.Q%”

Q of %

PREPARING YOUR BOOK COVER PDF All submitted book covers must be a onepage PDF that contains all sides of the book cover (front, back and spine) as a single piece of artwork. If you are using a bleed, please use at least a bleed of I.!Q%” on all sides.

Please use the following to determine the height and width of your book cover artwork:

No Bleed Artwork Width: Trimmed Book Width + Spine Width + Trimmed Book Width Artwork Height: Trimmed Book Height Example: If your trimmed book size is M” x N” and has a spine width of I.ONN%” then your book cover PDF should be !Q.ONN%” x N”

With Bleed Artwork Width: Bleed Width + Trimmed Book Width + Spine Width + Trimmed Book Width + Bleed Width Artwork Height: Bleed Height + Trimmed Book Height + Bleed Height Example: If your trimmed book size is M” x N” has a spine width of I.ONN%” and you are using a bleed of I.!Q%” on all sides, then your book cover PDF should be !R.I^N%” x N.Q%”

Spine Width To find the correct width of your book spine, you must: !. Determine your bookNs page countO* Q. Take your page count and divide it by QO This will determine your sheet count (how many sheets of paper will be used to print your book (Q pages for every ! sheet of paper). R. Now multiply your sheet count by SOSSTUO This number new number will be the decimal point value (in inches) of your spine width. For example, let’s say your book has a page count of ROI, your spine equation would then be: ROI/Q= !H% sheets x I.II^! = I.O%H%” wide spine * Your page count must include all numbered and unnumbered pages. For example, if your book is RMI pages long, but has % additional pages of copyright information and table of contents, plus % pages of author information or sample chapters from other books, etc., you must add all these to find your page count (RMI + % + % = ROI pages). If your sheet count has a decimal point (example: !^%.%), please round up your sheet count (!^M). Please also be aware that it is possible to have text (book title, author name) on the spine of your book, but if your spine width is smaller than I.!Q%” we recommend a blank spine.

Margins, Text and Emage Placement We recommend that any text or images you don’t want trimmed off the final book be at least I.Q%” away from the trim line.

Emage Resolution, Color Modes and Fonts, Crop and Registration Marks All artwork in your submitted book cover PDF must be at least RIIdpi and can either be in RGB or CMYK color modes. All fonts, images/graphics must be embedded in your submitted PDF. Please do not include any color bars, crop or registration marks in your final artwork PDF, as they may interfere with our printing and binding methods.

Barcodes, ESBN Numbers and Pricing All barcodes, ISBN numbers and/or suggested retail price numbers on your book cover must be included in your final artwork. Acquiring a barcode and/or ISBN number is the responsibility of the author.

Double-Sided Cover Printing If you wish to have artwork on the insidefront cover and insideback cover of your book, this must be included as an additional PDF and must be the exact size dimension as the submitted front cover PDF. Doublesided cover printing will also increase the cost per book price. Please contact a customer service representative for more information.

PDF Output Size Submitted book cover PDFs should be the same size as the prepared book cover artwork including bleeds (if used) and should not exceed a height of !I.MHO%” and a length of !M.^^%”

SAVING/EXPORTING/PRINTING DOCUMENTS AS A PDF There are several ways of saving your book documents as a PDF. Popular publishing applications like Adobe Indesign and Quark Xpress have their own builtin “export to PDF” options that make saving a PDF fairly simple. If you are using Microsoft Word or Publisher, you may need to explore other methods of saving a document as a PDF: • Adobe Acrobat makes saving your documents as a PDF extremely easy. Visit http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat to learn more and to download a free trial. • Wikipedia’s list of applications for saving PDF documents: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PDF_software • You can also visit http://www.download.com and search for “PDF”. Here you will find “shareware” and some “freeware” applications that can save documents to PDFs.

PDF Export Settings Most PDF saving applications have their own method of saving to a PDF and different settings as well. We recommend choosing the highestquality export options allowed and if possible, make sure image compression is set to RIIdpi or higher. This will help prevent image distortion within the exported PDF. Please make sure color bars, crop and registration marks are turned off and all images/graphics within the internal pages have been converted to grayscale prior to saving.
