In 2004, Florida Southern had two NFCA All-Americans and one Academic All-American, a trio of players that helped the Moccasins sweep the annual Sunshine State Conference individual awards that year and finish as national runnersup. Chris Bellotto was also voted the SSC Coach-of-the-Year that season.

Kellie Robinson (above) was Florida Southern’s first 4-time All-American in any sport, and did it at two different positions. She was part of the inaugural class of the Florida Southern College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002.

Shelly Davis was the Mocs’ second 4-time All-American in softball, and also the last. In 2007, she was voted the top player in the SSC for the first 25 years in which the league sponsored softball.

Katy Cortleyou won the league’s first SSC Pitcher-ofthe-Year award in 1995, going 28-7 with a 1.36 ERA, 157 strikeouts and 37 walks in 195.2 innings. That included a 17-2 mark in conference play. Cortelyou was a 3-time First Team All-SSC selection who won 67 games during those three seasons and was the winning pitcher in the 1993 national championship game. Megan Brown won just about every award a player could win in her career, and her 124 victories are not only a school record, but a conference record as well. In 2007 alone, she was a First Team All-American, a First Team Academic All-American, the SSC Pitcher-of-the-Year, and the overall SSC Female Athleteof-the-Year. That same season, Brown and teammate Sarah Kohlbrenner were the only active players selected to the SSC Silver Anniversary Softball Team. Brown went on to earn an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and has played professional softball both in the United States and Italy.

Lisa McNeley is the only player in league history to win both the SSC Player-of-the-Year and SSC Pitcher-ofthe-Year awards. In 1997, she was 29-7 with a 1.00 ERA and 233 strikeouts in 209 innings, and led the Mocs in batting average (.393), doubles (13), triples (4), home runs (3), and RBI (40).

SSC HALL OF FAME MEMBERS Dori Stankewitz, Pitcher (1994) – Her 81‐15 record gives her a career winning percentage of .844, the best in SSC history... Had a 37‐0 record in SSC play... Had 927 strikeouts, 55 shutouts, 90 complete games, 20 no‐hitters and three perfect games... Her consecutive scoreless innings streak of 64.0 in 1988 was an NCAA record for 12 years, and her 20 strikeouts in one game are still the NCAA 7‐inning record... Led the nation in strikeouts per game three times, averaged 10.3 in her career, and was the 1988 SSC Female Athlete‐of‐the‐Year... Two‐time All‐American, three‐time All‐SSC, and two‐time Academic All‐American.

Traci Wood, Outfielder (2007) – Ranks sixth in school history with a .404 career batting average… Led the nation in stolen bases in both 1995 and 1996... Her 81 steals in 1996 are still the SSC record, and her school‐ record 183 career steals are among the all‐ time leaders in Division II history... One of only two players in team history with more than 100 steals… Scored 205 runs in her career, a school record at the time, and a figure that still ranks second… Two‐time First Team All‐American, two‐time First Team All‐South Region and three‐time First Team All‐SSC.

Kellie Robinson, First Base/Shortstop (1999) – Hit .406 with 42 doubles, 15 triples, six home runs, 50 steals and 159 RBI in her career... Chris Bellotto, Coach (2000) – The only coach in team history… In 2007, became just the tenth coach at any NCAA level with 1,000 career wins… Has guided the Mocs to 24 SSC championships (including slow‐pitch) and eight regional titles… The conference championships are the most by any coach in SSC history for any sport, and the most for any softball coach in Division II… Has taken Florida Southern to three national championship games and won the 1993 national title… 15‐time SSC Coach‐of‐the‐Year… Has coached seven SSC Hall of Famers, six SSC Female Athletes‐ of‐the‐Year, 45 All‐Americans, and 20 Academic All‐Americans.

Wanda Graham, Outfielder (2011) – Set Florida Southern’s career home run record with 16 from 1990‐93… Hit .399 for her career with a .474 on‐base percentage, 125 RBI and 54 stolen bases… During the Mocs’ 1993 national championship season, set school records for batting average (.500) and OBP (.577), hit seven home runs and had 50 RBI… Hit .571 with two homers that season in the national tournament… Two‐time All‐American, was a two‐time First Team All‐South Region pick, and a three‐ time First Team All‐SSC selection.

Megan Brown, Pitcher (2013) – Three‐time All‐American, twice named Academic All‐ American, and was 4‐time all‐region from 2004‐07… All‐SSC all four years and was the SSC Pitcher‐of‐the‐Year three times… Holds nearly every pitching record in the book for Florida Southern, including career wins (finished with a 124‐26 record, also the SSC career record for wins), ERA (0.69), strikeouts (997), shutouts (58), and appearances (163)… Won 20 NCAA playoff games, including three South Region title games… Threw 12 no‐hitters and allowed just 3.6 hits per seven innings in her career… SSC Female Athlete‐of‐the‐Year, and Female Scholar‐Athlete‐of‐the‐Year in 2007.

Shelly Davis, Shortstop (2005) – Four‐time NFCA All‐American from 1993‐96 and was a First Team selection her final three seasons… Four‐time First Team All‐South Region and First Team All‐SSC… Hit .462 for her career, good for third in SSC history… Ranks second in school history with 164 RBI, and her 298 hits and 58 doubles are both school and SSC records… Her batting average and .512 on base percentage are Florida Southern career records… Hit .450 or better in three different seasons, including a .500 batting average as a senior when she was named SSC Player‐of‐the‐Year and SSC Female Athlete‐of‐the‐Year.

Karlyn Scott was the Scholar-Athlete-of-theYear for softball in her final three seasons for the Mocs. As a senior in 2012, she was also a First Team Academic All-American when she hit .358 with one home run, 20 RBI, and was 29-for-29 on stolen base attempts. Scott was 43-for-43 on the bases in her career, the best perfect percentage in team history.

Keltie Christian was the Mocs’ MVP in 2000 and 2001, a 2-year span that saw her post a 50-23 record with 23 shutouts, nine saves, a 0.80 ERA, and 708 strikeouts in 524.0 innings.

Megan Brown is the only freshman to win the MVP award. In 2004, she went 36-5 with a 0.44 ERA and won four games in the national tournament. She also won 30 games in 2006, and 34 in 2007. 7

Christine Clark is the only Moccasin in the fast-pitch era to win three straight MVP awards. In 2012, she was 29-11, struck out 267 batters with only 18 walks, and ranked second in the country with a 0.89 ERA.

Keltie Christian

On April 1, 2001, Keltie Christian and April Elston were part of the longest game in team history, and one of the longest ever played in Division II softball. Christian pitched all 21 innings of a 2-1 loss to Barry and set a school record with 23 strikeouts, which also tied the national record. That helped Elston, who caught all 21 innings, set two team records with 24 putouts and 27 total chances. That was just game one of the doubleheader.

Game two went 14 innings, with Elston behind the plate for all of it once again. Christian entered the game with one out in the top of the 10th inning and finished it off for Carrie Newton, striking out nine more Buccaneers in 4.2 innings. She eventually earned a 1-0 victory when the Mocs strung together three straight singles in the bottom of the 14th, and pinch-runner Tracey Edwards scored on a wild pitch.

The 21-inning game is tied for the longest in Division II history, with LeMoyne (NY) and SUNY-Cortland playing a 21-inning game in 1992. The 35 innings stands alone though as the longest doubleheader. Later in 2001, Florida Southern would be involved in another long doubleheader at Tampa, but the Mocs weren’t as fortunate in that one. Did You Know? The last time Florida Southern defeated a team ranked #1 in the country was April 13, 2008, when Sara Lovestrand hit a 3-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning, and Brittany Minton allowed just four hits in a 3-1 victory over Barry. It ended a 35game winning streak by the Buccaneers. The last time the Mocs beat a top-10 team was in 2014, when they did it twice. In the first one, the Mocs beat #9 Barry 5-4, and in the second, they escaped with a 1-0 win over #8 Wayne State (MI) on March 15. In that one, the Mocs were actually no-hit, and their only base runner came when Jordan Alexander reached a Wayne State error to start the game. She eventually scored on a wild pitch, and freshman Brandi Jones pitched a 6-hit shutout for the win.

Moccasins Who Led Division II

Did You Know? Keltie Christian is the last Florida Southern player to lead the nation in any statistical category, topping all D‐II pitchers in strikeouts with 357 as a senior in 2001. That came after she finished second in 2000.

Traci Wood is the last Moccasin to lead the nation in an offensive category, doing it in 1996 when she finished number one in stolen bases for the second year in a row. Wood is also the last Moccasin to lead the nation in two categories in one season, swiping 71 bases in 1995, and also scoring a Division II leading 78 runs that year.

Christine Clark was close to the top in two categories in 2012, finishing second in ERA (0.89) to Tampa’s Kayla Cox, and third in fewest walks per seven innings (0.44). She was also in the top‐10 in shutouts, wins and saves. 17

THE SUNSHINE STATE CONFERENCE Founded in 1975, the Sunshine State Conference has risen from a single sport organization to the Division II “Conference of Champions”. Since its inception, the conference has grown steadily in sports played, membership and national prominence. Member schools have won a total of 89 NCAA national titles, with those championships coming in baseball, men’s Commissioner basketball, men’s and women’s golf, women’s rowing, men’s and women’s Ed Pasque soccer, softball, men’s and women’s tennis, and women’s volleyball. During the 2013-14 school year, the SSC brought home three national championships, and the league added two more in the fall of 2014 (Lynn in men’s soccer, and Tampa in volleyball). The SSC sponsors championships in baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s lacrosse, women’s rowing, men’s and women’s soccer, softball, men’s and women’s tennis, and women’s volleyball. After holding steady with nine members since 1997-98, the Sunshine State Conference has recently grown with the addition of Embry-Riddle University and Palm Beach Atlantic University in the summer of 2014.

Allasyn Lieneck was Florida Southern’s 2014 MVP when she was also voted First Team All-SSC. She was the Mocs’ starting centerfielder for two years and her 94 putouts as a senior were the second most in team history at any outfield position. Lieneck also had 14 outfield assists in her 74 career starts. Prior to joining the Mocs in 2012, she was also an all-conference outfielder for Nichols College in Massachusetts.

BARNETT FIELD, HOME OF THE MOCCASINS The Moccasins play their home games at Barnett Field, on the campus of Florida Southern College. The field is located behind Jenkins Field House, home of the Moccasin volleyball and basketball teams, on the corner of Ingraham Avenue and McDonald Street. Originally known as Pipkin Field, it was re‐christened Barnett Field in 1990 in honor of longtime Florida Southern booster Hoyt Barnett. It also serves as the home for the Moccasin soccer teams in the fall. The Moccasins actually lost their first fast‐pitch game at their on‐campus field by a score of 7‐1 in the first game of a doubleheader with Lewis (IL) on March 14, 1985. The Mocs did win the second game, 4‐1, and have been doing that ever since. Over the last 30 years, they’ve won over 80% of their games at Barnett Field, and The 2009 team had the best record in school history at Barnett Field, going 21‐1 for a .955 winning percentage. Some of their other stand‐out records at home have come in 1987 (30‐4); 1989 (30‐3); 1995 (21‐2), 2004 (32‐4); and 2006 (24‐3). Barnett Field has also been the site for nine NCAA Division II South Region Softball Tournaments, most recently in 2006. The large birds of prey living in one of the light towers down the left field line are ospreys, otherwise known as seahawks. They eat mostly fish and can dive up to three feet deep in water to grab their prey. They thrive on every continent in the world except for Antarctica, normally live between 20 and 25 years, and mate for life. The photo at left is of the actual pair that lives at Barnett Field, taken by Florida Southern photographer Wayne Koehler during a game. They were given the names Alan and Anita by former Moccasin outfielder Natalie Lang.

Chris Bellotto has been named the SSC Coach-of-the-Year 15 times in her career, and is a member of the SSC, the Florida Southern Athletic, and the NFCA Hall of Fame.

Over the last 26 years, the Moccasins have averaged 41 wins per season with a .756 winning percentage.

The 1993 Moccasins won the program’s first national championship and featured 11 all-conference players. They still hold the NCAA record for most runs scored in a national title game, pounding out 20 hits in an 11-5 victory over Augustana (SD).
