Florida Southern College Founded by the United Methodist Church in 1885, Florida Southern College is one of the oldest private colleges in the state of Florida. Annie Pfeiffer Chapel, completed in 1941, was the first of Wright's designs at Florida Southern College.

Founded by the United Methodist Church, Florida Southern College is one of the oldest private colleges in the state, tracing its beginnings to a small seminary in Orlando in 1885. The tie to its founding church has remained constant and is today, a proud part of the College's heritage and a bright beacon for the future. Florida Southern moved to Lakeland in the heart of Florida's citrus belt in 1922 and began the construction of a campus that would eventually become a national landmark. The beautiful 100-acre campus, on the north shore of Lake Hollingsworth, includes the world's largest collection of buildings by master architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Florida Southern’s West Campus, now known throughout the world, actually had its inception in the mind of Dr. Ludd M. Spivey, president of the college from 19251957.

In 1935 he conceived the idea of an ultra-modern campus, designed by the world's leading architect. Ground was broken two years later for the first building in the Wright collection, the Annie Pfeiffer Chapel. What Frank Lloyd Wright created on the campus is amazing. His original work is still as modern and exciting as the newest buildings still on many architect's drawing boards. It is, perhaps, symbolic that the greatest concentration of his genius should be located at a small, private institution of higher learning. Perhaps he describes it best, "...out of the ground and into the light, a child of the sun...the college of tomorrow." 2

As one of the four original buildings on the FSC campus, Joseph-Reynolds Hall (“JR”) offers one of the best views on campus. It sits atop a hill overlooking Lake Hollingsworth. Community life is big here - the women of JR form groups within the building as a whole and also within the “wings” and smaller hallways. JR and its companion hall, Spivey, are located in the center of campus between Edge Hall and Ordway and serve mainly as first-year female residence halls.

Florida Southern’s recently renovated Water Dome, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, made its premiere performance on October 25, 2007. The Water Dome features 74 jets powering streams of water 45-feet into the air. It took almost 260,000 gallons of water to fill the basin of the dome and at full power 4,800 gallons are water are pumped per minute.

Wesley Hall is the first of two new twin residence halls at FSC and opened in the fall of 2008. The second building, Nicholas Hall, is expected to be ready for occupancy in the fall of 2009. Each new residence hall includes 115 bedrooms with views of Lake Hollingsworth, meeting rooms, student lounges, kitchens, and study spaces.

All of Florida Southern College’s residence halls offer wireless access in the common lobby areas and every room offers cable TV and is wired for internet access. In addition, wireless hotspots on campus include the Roux Library, TûTû’s Cyber Cafe (which offers Starbucks products), Wynee’s Bistro (our cafeteria), and the Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center and pool area.

A grouping of three residence halls, the Publix Commons are close to just about everything on the Florida Southern campus. All three buildings offer suitestyle living in which six students each have their own rooms and share a living area and bathroom. The Publix Commons also is home to Florida Southern’s Greek organizations.

As part of her quest for excellence, Dr. Kerr commissioned a master plan that outlines the College’s vision for the campus and includes numerous facility transformations. These include a soon-to-be completed residential life facility designed by world-renowned architect Robert Stern; a state-of-the-art center for the study of languages and literatures; an Internet café in the library and an addition to the library; the expansion of wireless Internet access and campus-wide technology upgrades; renovations to the student dining facility and residence halls; as well as a restoration of our world renowned Frank Lloyd Wright campus. Prior to assuming the presidency at Florida Southern, Dr. Kerr was Vice President for Advancement at both Rollins College and the University of Richmond. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Mercer University and her master’s and doctoral degrees from the Florida State University. She has held a number of community volunteer leadership roles and currently serves on the boards of SunTrust Bank Central Florida, The Lakeland Chamber of Commerce, Habitat for Humanity, The Polk Museum of Art and the Polk Arts Alliance. She and her husband, Dr. Roy Kerr, have a thirteenyear-old son, Eddie. Roy Kerr is the author of a recentlypublished book about baseball entitled “The Loving of the Game.”

Kerr, Ph.D. College President Since her unanimous appointment as its 17th president in 2004, Dr. Kerr has provided Florida Southern College with extraordinary vision and leadership that is enhancing the student experience and increasing the College’s national prominence. Under her guidance, the institution has renewed its commitment to educating the whole person academically, socially, spiritually, and physically - so that students leave prepared to make a positive and consequential impact on our world. Early in her tenure, Dr. Kerr led a comprehensive Strategic Plan designed to enrich all facets of the College’s student-centered culture. responsible for acquiring major gifts for the athletic department that included funding and equipment for the athletics weight room and upgrading the baseball and men’s basketball locker rooms. He coordinated all of the athletic department’s fundraising efforts, coordinated athletic facilities and served as game administrator for various home events. He also served as Florida Southern’s representative on the Sunshine State Conference Marketing Committee. As baseball coach, Meyer spent six full seasons as head coach, keeping the Moccasin program among the elite in NCAA Division II. In 2005, he guided the Moccasins to their ninth NCAA Division II national title with a 51-11 record and was the American Baseball Coaches Association Division II Coach-of-the-Year. In addition to his national coaching honors from the ABCA, Meyer also was South Region, Sunshine State Conference and Florida Diamond Club (scouting organization) Coach-of-the-Year. His head coaching record at FSC was 257-111-1, while his overall record as a head coach was 296-141-1. Thirty-four Moccasin baseball players were drafted or signed professional contracts during Meyer’s tenure at Florida Southern. Before officially assuming the reigns of head coach, Meyer had served for over three years as Florida Southern's top assistant coach. He also was the program's recruiting coordinator. Prior to joining the FSC coaching staff, Meyer spent five seasons at Valdosta State, working under the legendary head coach, Tommy Thomas. Before his stint at Valdosta State, Meyer was head baseball coach at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, where he coordinated the start of the school’s Division III baseball program in 1991. He served as a graduate assistant at Valdosta State from 1988-90, while earning his M. Ed. in physical education. Meyer was a four-year baseball letterman at the College of Wooster in Ohio, graduating in 1987 with a B.A. in speech communication. Meyer is married to the former Julie Newnum. The couple has three children, 20-year-old Ross, 18year old Mitchell and 17-year-old Megan.

Pete Meyer Athletic Director Pete Meyer is in his first year as the Director of Athletics at Florida Southern College. Named to the position Feb. 21, 2008, he officially assumed his duties July 1, when Lois Webb retired. Since 1972, he is just the fourth person to occupy the position of athletics director at Florida Southern – following Hal Smeltzly (1972-2000), Mike Roberts (2000-01) and Webb (2001-08). ”Pete Meyer is the best person to carry forward the legendary success of Florida Southern’s athletic programs,” FSC President Dr. Anne Kerr said at the time of his appointment. “His strength of character, commitment to a model scholar-athlete program, administrative skill, knowledge of intercollegiate athletics, dedication to students and ability to work with the senior staff of the College to achieve the goals of our strategic plan position him as the best person for this key institutional position. He has an impressive record of accomplishments as both a coach and athletic administrator, and has demonstrated a deep commitment to Florida Southern. I am confident that he will be an outstanding leader for our program.” “I am extremely honored to become director of athletics at Florida Southern College,” Meyer said. “I want to thank Dr. Kerr, Lois Webb and the Board of Trustees for their support and for their trust in my leadership ability in this position. Lois was a wonderful source of guidance and leadership for me. I look forward to working with Dr. Kerr in bringing her vision to Florida Southern, while maintaining our championship athletics program.” Meyer, who has been at Florida Southern since 1998, had served as assistant athletics director for Webb since February of 2006, in addition to maintaining his baseball coaching duties. 2008 Florida Southern Women’s Soccer Preview Coming off the best season in school history, the Florida Southern Moccasins enter 2008 with a new set of challenges. For one, the element of surprise is gone. It vanished last year when the Mocs went 12-7-1 against a schedule that included seven games against NCAA Tournament teams. It vanished when the Mocs beat two of those teams, tied another, and took two more to overtime, including national champion Tampa; and it further evaporated when they came painfully close to their own playoff appearance. Just how close were they? Florida Southern ended the season ranked high enough in the South Region poll to earn an at-large bid, but the Moccasins were knocked out by Montevallo, a school ranked below them that earned an automatic bid by winning the Gulf South Conference tournament. It was a bitter end to an otherwise exciting season, but further proof of just how far Florida Southern has come in recent years. This year, the Moccasins will be expected to win, and more importantly, they themselves expect to win. Those are the type of expectations Ben Strawbridge was looking to create when he came to Florida Southern two years ago, and doing so made him the 2007 Sunshine State Conference Coach-of-the-Year. To keep Florida Southern at the level they played last year, and possibly take them beyond, Strawbridge will rely on seven returning starters that includes a pair of all-region performers. Once again, they’ll face a challenging schedule full of playoff teams and potential playoff teams, and the Mocs hope to join that group with another strong showing in 2008. FORWARD Florida Southern set a school record last year with 46 goals and was second in the SSC in scoring average. With six of the top seven scorers back, the Moccasins have a good chance to approach that number again. Leading the offense is a group of veteran forwards that includes First Team All-South Region selection Linda Hoglund. The senior led the nation in assists last year, and along with her 17 scoring passes, also had eight goals and a school-record 33 points. Her personal accomplishments were unmatched in the program’s 10-year history, but she didn’t work alone. Princess Haley and Liz Gorman provided plenty of help, and are expected to do so again this year. Haley proved to be one of the top rookies in the SSC last year, scoring seven goals with four assists. Her 18 points were the second highest in the SSC among freshmen, setting the bar high for the rest of her career. Gorman, who is now a senior, also reached double digits in total points and became a bigger part of the offense towards the middle of the season. She had five goals and one assist, all of it in the final 14 games.

Senior Linda Hoglund led the nation in assists last year and set a school record with 33 points. Joining that group in 2008 are three freshmen who will push the veterans for playing time. Hanna Jansson is one of those, and comes to Florida Southern from the same club team in Sweden that produced Hoglund. Summer Dalton, a hard-working player from Ohio, helped her high school team win two Division I state titles, and Alex Hoover is a strong shooter who had over 70 points the last two seasons at Palm Beach Central High School. Dalton and Hoover could also work as outside midfielders. MIDFIELD Goal-scoring wasn’t limited to the front line in 2007, and thanks to the return of the Mocs’ entire starting midfield, it won’t be in 2008 either. Seniors Erin Hopkins and Christina Crooks each started all 20 games last year, and sophomore Jackie Bachteler started all but one. That trio combined for 12 goals and 11 assists and created plenty of other scoring chances. Hopkins was a force in her first year with the Moccasins after transferring from the University of Central Florida. She was voted First Team All-SSC and Second Team All-South Region while scoring seven goals and 18 points. The 18 points were a school record for a midfielder, but the most impressive thing about her numbers was the way they were accomplished. Hopkins’ seven goals came in seven different games, and six of them either put Florida Southern ahead or tied the match. Though she’s not a prolific goal-scorer, Crooks can’t be overlooked. She was second on the team with five assists, and over the second half of last season was third on the

team with seven points. She had a total of nine points for the year and did a lot of work in the middle that often allowed a player like Hopkins to push forward. Bachteler quietly did her job too, picking up three goals and two assists. Only one other freshman midfielder in the SSC scored more goals than Bachteler, whose continued progress is a key to the Mocs’ long-term success. Florida Southern also returns junior Therese Dahlskold and sophomore Caitlin Rauckhorst. Dahlskold is a veteran of 30 career games with nine career points for the Moccasins, while Rauckhorst is back for her second year and looking to expand on her playing time from last year. Brought in to bolster the midfield line are freshmen Holly Bennett and Emily Griffith. Bennett was a two-time All-Big Bend selection for Tallahassee-Lincoln who could also contribute as an outside back. Griffith had an outstanding career as a center midfielder at Archbishop Spalding High School in Maryland, a team that was ranked #1 in the nation at one point her senior year. DEFENDER HELP!! A record-setting defense returns just one starter and also lost a goalkeeper who played every minute of every game. Considering the way Strawbridge completely re-built the defense last year in a nearly identical situation, perhaps it’s not such a problem after all. Those holes were plugged with two converted forwards who were assuming new positions; a freshman in the middle who spent much of her high school career between the posts rather than in front of them; and a brand new goalkeeper who hadn’t played in two years, and had no college experience. Despite all of those issues, the Mocs set school records for shutouts (7) and fewest shots allowed (9.6 per game). Amy Clampitt-Holsenbeck was named the SSC Defensive Player-of-the-Year and became the program’s first All-American, and Sarah Furr set five individual goalkeeping records. Along with outside backs Halie Clark and Lacey Chimienti, they also helped the Mocs to a 1.18 goals against average, the second lowest in team history. With all of those players having graduated, sophomore Ashlie Haas is the only returning starter from that unit. That’s a pretty good player to have back. Haas started every game in the middle for the Moccasins and from day one looked perfectly at home. A game-saving play in the season-opening win at Rollins was only the start of an outstanding freshman season. She also came up with several big plays in SSC shutouts of Lynn and Nova, and logged more minutes than any other field player on the Florida Southern roster.

As for the rest of the starting spots on defense, it’s anyone’s guess. There’s no shortage of candidates, including senior Melissa Kelly who moved to that position last year after playing up front. She saw action in 11 games as a defender, has played in 43 overall, and is the Moccasins’ most experienced reserve. Sophomore Anna Ott is another returning letterman trying to win a starting job. While Kelly has more experience overall, Ott saw more time last year as the Mocs’ top reserve. Playing in 17 games as a midfielder and defender, she averaged better than 45 minutes per match with four starts. Another sophomore battling for playing time is Lindsey Koovackal, who is making the move from midfield to the back line. Then there’s the plethora of newcomers (seven in all) who hope to be a regular part of the Mocs’ defense. The odds are very good that some of them will be. Two of the newcomers were teammates last year at Polk Community College, which finished seventh at the NJCAA National Tournament. Junior Renee Heacock was an All-South Region player for the Vikings, and Kristen Vollmer scored 26 points as a forward. With so much inexperience in the back, both may be asked to step into big roles for the Moccasins. The five other rookie defenders come from a pretty diverse background, but two of them are home-grown in Florida Southern’s back yard. Freshmen Jessee Andrews and Morgan Wampler faced each other several times in high school but now have the chance to be teammates. Andrews helped George Jenkins High School win the 5A state title last year, with the Eagles posting 16 shutouts in an undefeated season. Wampler starred at Winter Haven High School, the regional runner-up to George Jenkins, a team they tied in the regular season. Meanwhile, Lexie Bottomley (Rhode Island), Katie Naumec (Connecticut), and Erin Sneed (Michigan) have all made the trip south to compete for spots on the Florida Southern defense. Bottomley was a two-time All-State selection at North Kingstown High School who also played for a strong club team; Naumec was a two-time all-conference defender at Windham High School, and Sneed was a 2008 All-State defender for Sutton’s Bay High School.

Billing and junior college transfer Kimberly Adams. Tangen Billing is a product of Sweden’s youth system, while Adams is a home-schooled student who spent the last two years at Valencia CC in Orlando.

Last year’s school‐record 12 wins came against the most difficult schedule the Moccasins had ever faced. Among their 20 games were seven against teams that qualified for the NCAA playoffs, including dates with 2006 national champion Metro State and 2007 national champion Tampa. They also played 11 games against teams that had at least 10 wins. It will be more of the same this year. Following is a look at Florida Southern’s 2008 schedule.

In 2007, Florida Southern set a school record with seven shutouts, which ranked third in the SSC behind Tampa (14) and Nova Southeastern (8). The Moccasins also allowed just 9.6 shots per match, another school record, and the team goals against average of 1.18 was the second lowest in the program’s 10‐year history. 7

Head Coach Ben Strawbridge Ben Strawbridge enters the 2008 season as the reigning Sunshine State Conference Coach-of-the-Year, an honor well-deserved after leading Florida Southern to a 12-7-1 record in his second year as the Moccasins' head coach. The 12 wins were a school record and marked the first time the Mocs reached double figures; they also doubled the team's total from the previous season, and put the Mocs on the brink of an NCAA postseason bid for the first time in team history. Strawbridge arrived at Florida Southern in 2006, and had little time to prepare for his first college head coaching job. Hired on June 14, his first look at the Moccasins came just two months later, and six of his first nine games were against teams that qualified for that year's NCAA Tournament. Florida Southern finished 6-11 that year with a sign of things to come. In their first two games under Strawbridge, the Mocs took Peach Belt champion Columbus State to double overtime, and lost another one-goal decision to Armstrong Atlantic State, both of whom advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The following weekend saw Strawbridge earn his first career win with a 2-0 decision over Montevallo on September 1, as well as a 2-1 overtime victory against AlabamaHuntsville. The Mocs continued to improve throughout the season, and went 4-4 over the last eight games. By the time his rookie season ended, Strawbridge and the Moccasins had played seven games against NCAA Tournament teams, the most of any school in the Sunshine State Conference. The Mocs dropped two of those games in double overtime, lost another one in the final seconds, and battled national semifinalist Tampa evenly for more than 70 minutes. Along the way, there were plenty of highlights for Strawbridge in his first year. The Moccasins set a team scoring record in a 7-1 win over Warner Southern, earned their first ever win over national power Barry, and won three dramatic overtime games against South Region competition. Last year, the Mocs picked up where they left off in 2006, as their 5-0 start included wins over Armstrong Atlantic State and Montevallo, two teams that went on to earn NCAA Tournament bids. The Mocs almost joined them, and finished the season ranked high enough in the final South Region poll, but were bumped in favor of an automatic qualifier that won the Gulf South Conference Tournament in upset fashion. Altogether, Florida Southern faced seven teams that did make the NCAA Tournament, beating two and tying another (Nova Southeastern). They also lost double overtime games to Saint Leo and national champion Tampa, and played evenly for 70 minutes against 2006 national champion Metro State. Games like that meant the Mocs' final record of 12-7-1 came against the most difficult schedule they'd faced in their 10year existence. In addition to their seven games against NCAA qualifiers, the Mocs also faced 11 teams that won 10 or more games, and were the only team in the country to schedule both the 2006 and 2007 national champions. It also helped the Mocs reach their highest regional ranking ever (#4) and receive votes in the national poll for the first time in team history.

Not surprisingly, the Moccasins set numerous school records in their second year under Strawbridge. While the wins were the most important of those, they also established new marks for longest winning streak, goals scored, goals per game, total points, shutouts, and fewest shots allowed, and had three players named First Team All-Sunshine State Conference. That was one more than they had in the previous nine years. The impact Strawbridge had was felt all over the field too. Up front, Linda Hoglund set school records with 33 points and 17 assists, and became the first Moccasin to lead the nation in any statistical category (assists per game). The back line saw Amy Clampitt-Holsenbeck star as the SSC Defensive Player-ofthe-Year in her first season at that position, yet still lead the team in goals scored and lead the nation in scoring by a defender. Meanwhile, Erin Hopkins set a school scoring record by a midfielder, first-year starting goalkeeper Sarah Furr set a school record for shutouts, and a defense with three converted forwards allowed only 9.6 shots per game. After the season, Clampitt-Holsenbeck was honored as the team's first All-American, and both Hoglund and Hopkins were all-region selections. Prior to his arrival at Florida Southern, Strawbridge was the assistant women's soccer coach at Division I Liberty University from 2002-05 under James Price. In his final season with the Flames, he helped Liberty win the 2005 Big South Conference championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. The Flames were 12-7-2 overall and 5-3 in the Big South, giving them a winning conference record in all four seasons Strawbridge was an assistant, including 2002 when they were undefeated in league play. Strawbridge also played at Liberty where he started all 67 games from 1998-2001 as a defender for the Flames. During that time, he established himself as one of the best players to ever wear a Flames uniform. He was two-time All-South Atlantic Region, and remains the only player in team history to earn First Team All-Big South honors three straight years. His play in 1999 helped Liberty goalkeeper Dean Short set a Big South record with 10 shutouts. After his college career, Strawbridge went on to play two seasons with the Richmond Kickers in the USL A-League. He was also a third round draft pick by the Milwaukee Wave in the 2002 Major Indoor Soccer League draft. While he spent eight years in Lynchburg, Virginia as part of Liberty's soccer program, Strawbridge began his soccer career in Lakeland, making his arrival at Florida Southern in 2006 as a homecoming. He was a member of three state championship teams at Lakeland Christian in his prep career before signing with Liberty. Strawbridge earned his bachelor's degree in communications from Liberty in 2002, and his master's in business administration in 2006. He and his wife, Kristy, have two daughters: two-year old, Aslyn, and one-year old Maryn. Assistant Coach Steve Henson Joining the Florida Southern coaching staff this season is Steve Henson, the former executive director for Southern Kentucky Soccer, and now the girls’ academy director and staff coach for the Real Salt Lake Florida youth club. Henson also has experience as a high school coach in Kentucky, and spent extensive time as a player in both Kentucky and Tennessee. Henson grew up in Nashville where he played club soccer for Hendersonville United (now Tennessee United). He went on to become a four-year letterman and two-year starter at Western Kentucky University from 1990-93, appearing in a total of 58 games for the Hilltoppers. He then embarked on a five-year career with the semi-pro Nashville Metros, and held staff positions with Vanderbilt, Ole Miss and Western Kentucky soccer camps. Henson later served as head coach of the boys’ soccer program at Bowling Green High School in Kentucky where he led the Purples to a 104-20-2 record in his career. In 2001, his team won district and regional championships to advance to the state final four, and Henson was named the SKSRA Coach-of-the-Year. A 1993 graduate of Western Kentucky, Henson earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education and a master’s in education. He also holds a USSF National “B” coaching license.

Assistant Coach Jason Streets Jason Streets is a new member of the Florida Southern coaching staff, but he’s well-know to head coach Ben Strawbridge. The two were teammates both at both Lakeland Christian High School and Liberty University, where they played collegiately from 1998-2001. While at Liberty, Streets was a First Team All-Big South Conference selection in 1999 when he put together one of the best seasons ever by a member of the Flames. That year he became just the fifth player in school history with a 30-point season when he scored 14 goals and added two assists. His team-leading point total helped Liberty to a school-record 14 wins that season and a runner-up finish in the conference tournament. He was a member of the all-tournament team, helping the Flames defeat Elon and Winthrop before they were out-dueled in penalty kicks by Radford. Two years later as a senior, he notched nine assists, leading the Big South Conference in that category and equaling the second most by a Liberty player. He scored 27 goals with 11 assists in his career, finishing with 65 career points to rank 10th in team history. During his time at Liberty, the Flames were 18-8-1 in conference play, won two Big South regular season titles, and finished second in the Big South Tournament three times. In addition to his duties at Florida Southern, Streets is also head coach of the girls’ soccer team at Lakeland Christian, a title he’s held since 2004. His four-year record stands at 74-21-7, with four appearances in the state playoffs. The Vikings won the Class 2A District 12 title each of those seasons, extending their streak to 11 straight district championships. Streets guided the Vikings to the regional final in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Last year’s team finished 17-5-3, and his 2004-05 team went 23-4. Streets is not the only member of his family involved in coaching, or to be involved with the Florida Southern soccer program. His brother Grandy is the boys’ coach at Lakeland Christian, and brother Jonathan played three years at Florida Southern from 200305 before spending the last two seasons as an assistant coach with the women’s team.

In his second year at Florida Southern, Ben Strawbridge was named the Sunshine State Conference Coach‐of‐the‐ Year in 2007 after leading the Moccasins to their best season ever.

WHY MOCCASINS? Florida Southern first used the nickname Moccasins in 1926, shortly after the college’s move to Lakeland in 1922. The water moccasin, or cottonmouth snake, was abundant in the nearby lakes and since the moccasin is one of the fiercest of all snakes ‐ one that will often attack unprovoked ‐ the college adopted the moniker for its athletic teams.

BARNETT FIELD, HOME OF THE MOCCASINS The Moccasins play all of their home games at Barnett Field, on the campus of Florida Southern College. The field is located behind Jenkins Field House, home of the Moccasin volleyball and basketball teams, on the corner of Ingraham Avenue and McDonald Street. Bleacher seating is available on one side of the pitch for approximately 500 fans. Barnett Field is the only home the Moccasins have ever known since men’s soccer was first played as an intercollegiate sport in 1957. Originally known as Pipkin Field (through the 1989 season), it was rechristened Barnett Field in 1990 in honor of longtime Florida Southern booster Hoyt Barnett. Lights were installed (nine polls at the cost of $100,000) in October of 1989, and the Moccasin men’s team played its first night game at Barnett Field in a 5-1, exhibition victory over Polk Community College in 1990. The first regular season night game was on September 8 of that year, a 2-0 loss to Flagler. The first intercollegiate soccer game at Pipkin/Barnett Field was on October 26, 1957, when the Florida Southern men’s soccer team lost to Rollins College, 3-1. The women’s first game at Barnett Field was September 1, 1998 (the first game in the program’s history) and was a 5-2 loss to Tampa; the game was played in a steady rain throughout the night. Florida Southern eventually earned its first home win on September 17, defeating Embry-Riddle 4-1. In 10 years, the women’s soccer team has a 43-48-3 record on its home pitch. Ashlie Haas (left), Princess Haley (middle) and Liz Gorman (right) were three new additions last year who were all big reasons Florida Southern set a school record with 12 wins. Haas started every game as a freshman in the middle of the Moccasin defense; Haley had seven goals and 18 points in her first collegiate season; and Gorman had five goals and 11 points after joining the Moccasins as a transfer.

FLORIDA SOUTHERN’S (FIRST) ALL‐AMERICAN GIRL

In 2007, Amy Clampitt‐Holsenbeck became Florida Southern’s first women’s soccer All‐ American as the senior put together perhaps the best all‐around season in school history. Not only was she voted the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player‐of‐the‐Year, she was also the team’s leading goal scorer and finished the season with nine goals and 20 points. Those were the highest totals for any defender in all of NCAA Division II. She helped the Mocs post a 1.18 goals against average, set a school record with seven shutouts and allow just 9.6 shots per game.

As a freshman in 1999 (pictured at left), Halie Clark was an All-SSC forward and the Moccasins’ leading scorer. After a five-year absence to pursue a music career, Clark returned to Florida Southern in 2005 and again led the Mocs in scoring. In 2006, she became an all-conference player for the second time, this time as a midfielder. Her career ended last season when she moved to outside back and helped Florida Southern turn in the best defensive season in team history (pictured at right).

Jenna Cleary was a three-time All-SSC defender, team MVP in 2005, and a twotime SSC Defensive Player-of-the-Week.

Meanwhile, Amy Clampitt‐ Holsenbeck holds the team record for the least time between two goals by the same person when she scored 41 seconds apart in a 7‐1 win over Warner Southern in 2006. The Division II record for that accomplishment is held by Casie Poyssick of Saint Leo, who scored two goals just nine seconds apart in a match against Palm Beach Atlantic in 2003.

THE SUNSHINE STATE CONFERENCE Founded in 1975, the Sunshine State Conference has risen from a single sport organization to the Division II “Conference of Champions”. Since its inception, the conference has grown steadily in sports played, membership and national prominence. Sunshine State Conference member schools have won recent NCAA national titles (67 total) in baseball, men’s basketball, men’s Commissioner and women’s golf, softball, men’s Mike Marcil and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s soccer, and women’s volleyball. The SSC is also nationally recognized in men’s and women’s cross country, women’s rowing and women’s basketball. The SSC sponsors championships in baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s tennis, women’s volleyball, softball and women’s rowing. SUNSHINE STATE CONFERENCE HALL-OF-FAME Julianne Coleman (2-time SSC Pitcher-of-the-Year in softball and 2-time All-American), Buck Dawson (16time SSC Coach-of-the-Year in cross-country and winner of 17 SSC titles) and Jana Peterkova (2-time national champion and the 2002 National Player-of-theYear in women’s golf) were inducted into the SSC Hall of Fame in 2008, bringing the number of inductees from Florida Southern College to 39. Nine Moccasins were inducted into the inaugural class in 1991-92, and FSC has had at least one inductee in 14 of the 17 classes since the Hall’s inception. Of the 39 inductees, 26 have been student-athletes, nine have come from the coaching ranks and four from administrative and staff positions. MOCCASIN MEN WIN SSC MAYOR’S CUP

From Palm Beach/Fort Lauderdale Take the Florida Turnpike north to Yeehaw Junction (Highway 60). Take Highway 60 to 98 North in Bartow, and 98 North into Lakeland. Watch for the Grove Park Shopping Plaza (on the left) and turn left at Crystal Lake Drive. Go to Lake Hollingsworth Drive, turn right and go around the lake to Ingraham Avenue. Turn right again, and go to stop sign (McDonald) and turn left. Parking lot will be on the left, just past Barnett Field.

Florida Southern finished first in the men’s division and third in the women's division for the Sunshine State Conference Mayor's Cup for all-sports competition last year. The award is sponsored by the mayors of the nine communities in which SSC schools are located. The Mayor's Cup recognizes competition in six sports for men: soccer, cross country, basketball, golf, tennis and baseball and nine sports for women: volleyball, softball and rowing, in addition to the men’s sports. Points in each sport are awarded by the number of schools sponsoring teams in the respective sports. The 2007-08 academic year marked the 22nd year of the Mayor's Cup competition. Florida Southern has won the women's division 10 times and the men’s division 10 times, more than any other school in both divisions. IN MEMORIAM MEGHAN KELLY (1987-2008) On January 7, 2008, Florida Southern College and the women’s soccer team lost a dear friend when Meghan Kelly died in a car accident while returning to school for the second semester. Meghan had been a member of the team since the fall of 2005, when she arrived on campus after an outstanding career at LaBelle High School in southwest Florida. Her numbers there were simply dominating: 103 goals, 86 assists and 292 points over four seasons. Total them up, and an average year by Meghan meant she was involved in more than 47 goals per season. As a freshman with the Moccasins, Meghan played in 13 games and earned three starting assignments. Her career was temporarily derailed in 2006 when she was forced to sit out the entire season due to injury, but after months of hard work and rehab, she again took the field as a Moccasin last fall. In the classroom, Meghan was a two-time member of the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll while majoring in physical education. In her final semester, she earned a 4.0 grade point average in the fall of 2007. Meghan accumulated countless friends, both in LaBelle and Lakeland and will be deeply missed by all of them. Her memory will be carried by the Moccasins onto the field in every match, and every practice this season. She’s survived by her parents Kevin and Michelle, sister Jennifer, brothers Matt and Sean, as well as twin sister Melissa, who is a senior on this year’s team.
