Letter from the Editor So much to say about this issue and the lessons I have learned through this phase of the journey with Issue 8 in the F-Style journey. Let me first say that nobody said that the Urbane industry was ever easy. If it was easy everyone would be apart of it. I have to commend all who choose to make working in the Urbane Industry and put their energy, passion and life in this choice. Marcus Fizer Photographer/Publisher F-Style Chicago Magazine
With that being said, I truly hope that the information that I provide gives someone a little more insight of what to expect in this industry so they can use it to plan, understand and use for their degree of success. Many of the models and talent in these pages have true stories of struggle and passion, pain and happiness. Many stay and are committed to their crafts because they believe in their dreams and they believe in others and choose to use their times and talents to help each one out like a true community is suppose to do. So ponder on this. The F-Style dream is to build Urbane Skyscrapers and to do this all talents working on the construction of this Skyscraper has to be strong in what they do and committed to the vision for the pay off will create a expected win win for all. Therefore if you are building skyscrapers you have to know how to write out big plans, communicate them to others and use your time effectively to create it. You have to know who you will chose to be the right helpmates to get the job done.

This is why the Urbane community has to understand and believe that you can not work your dream by yourself and you need a team, a strong team. So with that in mind you seek to make sure your team members are well, healthy, smart and have matured in their skill set to do bigger and better projects so when the call goes out to build the skyscraper everyone is ready and a great win win situation can be achieved. So my sisters and brothers who are reading this, use your time wisely, grow and develop your skills for when you get that call to be apart of the great skyscraper team you will be ready. We at F-Style seek to help in that and

FITNESS What got you started in the health industry? The urge to become the greatest version of ourselves. With this positive experience within ourselves we wanted others around us to experience their greater self. How long have you been training? Mr. Boston has been training himself since 94’ Mrs. Boston has been training herself and others since 2010 What type of music do you listen to , to keep you motivated during your work out sessions? Mrs. Boston goes off of feeling. If its cardio and I am mello I choose more instrumental vibrations. If I am running fast and hyper I choose major bass head, skrillex mixes. Weight training depends on mood as well. I can be random with that. Mr. Boston hard core hip hop. Since you been training what is some of the important things you found out about food and nutrients that make a difference in staying fit. Get an ALLERGY TEST DONE!! This will eliminate a lot of internal inflammation which causes weight gain as well. Just because you dont see signs visually, our bodies usually speaks to us when it doesn’t agree with our choices. We must listen.. GET A FOOD ALLERGY TEST DONE! Mr. Boston says, you are what you eat.

When it comes to your relationship and training what are some tips you can give for couples to keep it interesting and motivational to work out together? Design a workout schedule weekly along with food prep days. Do it together. You are ONE! As an individual have an understanding as to what motivates you and share it with your partner. As the partner. Listen! Come up with creative ways to hold eachother accountable. Register for a 5k race. Thats what tied us together. Our first offical date was The Color Run in 2013. Do you have any favorite workout tips that you do at home with your spouse? We do not workout at home. We do a little cardio on the treadmill every now and then. We rest at home.... As a couple how do you think with you two working out together has helped your relationship vs other relationships. The endorphin releases!!! ♡ What are your future goals as a couple that trainers together? Any work out videos, etc? As long as its an avenue to help inspire all through our experiences we are down for it. We allow our feelings to guide us not our thoughts. We are planning in releasing strength training dvds. How do you guys deal with gym flirts as a couple? FLIRTS!! Thee furthest thing on our minds is flirts. Plus when we are together training we are pretty intimidating. We love flirting with eachother though... Do you have any recommendations for a healthy fit lifestyle for new couples? Yes. Never stop learning eachother. You both are in a continuous state of recreation and creating rather you like it or not. he stood in front of the mirror looking at the reflection of her nude body. Slowly she began to turn and as if habitually began to count the many flaws that she found. Her legs so big, her hips so thick. “Who would want something like this”, she thought. She ran her hands gently down her thighs and across her belly. She turned slightly and placed her hand over her stomach. Casually she tilted her head to the side and bit down on her lower lip as if to stop herself from speaking. As her self-examination continued, her eyes fell upon the thickness of her thighs and she shook her head in silence. She would see in her reflection the few dimples on the back of her thighs that plagued her so often. She sighed. She took her hands and cuffed the sides of her breast. One was slightly smaller than the other. “I wonder if he noticed”, she whispered. She stood motionless for a moment staring at her flawed image reflected in the mirror. She lowered one arm and with the other placed it across her chest and rested her hand on her shoulder as if to cover her shame. She felt herself wanting to cry so she closed her eyes and again shook her head in silence. He stood unnoticed in the doorway watching her from a distance. He watched her as she admired herself in the mirror. He watched her as her hands softly caressed her stomach and her shapely hips. He watched her eyes glaze over her full thighs and elongated legs. “Those thighs, how amazing”, he thought. Her thighs were now his thighs. Her body was now his body. He watched her hold her breast gently with each hand. Her soft lips were moving whispering words that he could not hear. He watched her stand motionless in the mirror as if for a mo-
ment to admire her own flawless image that stood before her. When she covered her chest with her arm and closed her eyes he felt embarrassed because he thought that she had notice him watching her in the mirror.” Baby,” he softly whispered towards her, “You are so beautiful.” She opened her eyes and saw him watching her in the mirror and became embarrassed and smiled. As she turned towards him a tear rolled down her cheek as she softly whispered “Thank you”. 14/F-STYLE CHICAGO

While author Ambrose Okosun was just beginning his life in March of 1973 in Lekki, Nigeria, his parents’ marriage was ending. Left with his grandparents to eke out a living in a small village, Okosun was separated from his mother and was not allowed to see his birth father. From a young age, he was dealt a hard life. In A Boy and His Dream, Okosun shares the struggles he endured and how he strived to overcome those early challenges. From hunger to being ostracized by a polygamist family, he experienced severe poverty while growing up. At the same time, his elders imparted important lessons that Okosun took to heart, including the message that he was in charge of his own destiny. Learning by trial and error and with guidance from God, Okosun tells how he became educated, earned several degrees, and immigrated to the United States. A Boy and His Dream narrates the story of a man who has come a long way from being an abused little boy in Nigeria.

Chicago’s own talent Dana, she is truly a Diamond in the rough, when I first saw her she reminded me so much of Iconic fashion model Roshumba Williams, but only smaller in stature but not in spirit. I have had the pleasure of working with this Mexican fashion model/ bartender. This was truly a great blend of spirits. See for yourself.

What got you first interested in your industry? I started modeling when I was 16 years old, but had been dreaming of it for at least 5 years before I began. When I first expressed it to my parents at 11, they didn’t really support the idea. At that point I took matters into my own hands, grabbing any fashion magazine I could find at the corner store and watching every single episode of America’s Next Top Model. At 16, I found a local upcoming photographer to work with, and the rest is history. Did you have any mentors helping you as you navigated your craft in the beginning? I have a few amazing industry friends/mentors who I feel extremely blessed to have met. They have poured so much into me, not just as a model, but also as a person. Photographer, Nuru Kimondo; photographer, Luis DeAndre; and Brand Builder, Aaja Corinne have been most influential in my modeling experience thus far. Some of the best advice they’ve each given me is to believe in yourself no matter what, especially in this industry where you’re under constant criticism and judgment. What were some of the most important lessons realized that help to open you to more success? Learning your angles and lighting as a model is not the easiest task, but its so necessary for growth. Outside of that dealing with rejection is the hardest part. Being able to pick yourself back up, and keep pushing toward your dream doesn’t come to you overnight, but as long as you’re always focusing on that end goal, when you fall it won’t be as hard to get up. 27/F-STYLE CHICAGO

Do you have any social causes you stand behind i.e breast cancer, green movement etc? My main goal with modeling is to change industry standards and to help “vertically challenged” (as Femi says) plain Janes like myself to know that they are beautiful and strong too. That women of any stature can be whomever they want, and can take back their self-confidence from photoshopped images of perfect, tall, skinny women. What do you want your legacy in the industry to be? Hopefully my legacy will stem from my goals for my career... Hopefully, I will start a revolution of women loving themselves and men loving real (non-photoshopped, non-silicone) women. What was the best project you worked on so far and what was it so great? I really enjoyed working America’s Beauty Show for Aquage. I got my first big chop (extremely liberating), I got to werk an awesome new haircut for industry professionals, and walked away with great hair products. What more could one ask for? In your area what would you advise someone to really look out for and prepare themselves for as they are seeking work? Hair modeling is always in style. I don’t do it as much anymore since I decided to cut all my hair off. But when I did have hair, there was almost always work for me. There is, though, a bigger demographic for wigs and weave now, for glamour models with less hair. There are wig/weave companies popping up just about everyday looking for fresh faces to model their products. I haven’t worked with any agencies that I could recommend at this time, but researching top reputable agencies like BMG and Factor Women would be a good place to start. What was the most questionable experience you have had while modeling in the industy? The most questionable thing I’ve been approached with is shooting nude and video modeling. With 30/F-STYLE CHICAGO
any questionable offers, I’ve always taken the time to think the concept through to make sure that it doesn’t conflict with my morals, or image. Many people say that you have to do something outside of who you are normally to get ahead in this industry, but I must disagree. I’ve never liked to force myself to be okay with something that I’m not. So I decided to do a tasteful implied nude shoot and respond with a graceful no to the video shoot. I prefer to model Fashion editorial overall. But I do also love Commercial, Fitness, and Swimwear. I’m not a huge fan of glamour modeling. What advise would you give a younger you? I would tell the younger me, not to worry so much about being perfect, because there’s no such thing on this Earth

DID YOU KNOW ABOUT
AQUAPONICS A typical aquaponic system features a fish tank connected to an irrigated growbed. Water is circulated back and forth between the two; in the fish tank, fish effluents fertilize the water, while in the growbed these waste products are broken down by nitrogen-fixing bacteria and then absorbed by the plants. Fish fertilize the water for the plants and the plants remove nitrogenous wastes before they can build up to toxic levels for the fish. Aquaponics is more than just a clever way to combine fish and vegetables; scientists believe that it could hold the answers to two of the most significant problems facing the next generation of farmers in America and around the world. The first lies in its water efficiency. Population growth and climate change are projected to make fresh water an increasingly scarce and valuable resource in the coming century. Aquaponic systems are recirculating, meaning that the same water goes through the cycle again and again. This makes aquaponics the most water-efficient farming technique on earth – requiring as little as 5% of the water required for soil-based agriculture.
