FSU Master of Social Work Program Foundation Endowed Scholarship
“Class of 2006 Master of Social Work Program Graduate Hooding Ceremony”
The Master of Social Work (MSW) Program at Fayetteville State University established the Foundation Endowed Scholarship for MSW students. Awarding a scholarship to a deserving student is one way the MSW Program recognizes outstanding graduate students. The scholarship will provide supplemental awards to eligible graduate social work students to recognize academic excellence and help defray the costs of tuition. This scholarship will provide the MSW Program an opportunity to recognize students with outstanding academic abilities and help relieve some of their financial burdens.
Our goal is to raise $10,000 to support the endowment. Once this goal is achieved, the University will annually provide supplemental awards to students who meet certain criteria. If you have any questions about this particular scholarship or would like to make a donation, you may contact the Department of Social Work Chair, Dr. Terri Moore Brown at 672-1853. Would you like to learn more about establishing a scholarship as an individual or department? If so, please contact Wendy Jones at 672-1729 or wjones3@ uncfsu.edu.

FSU Comments on Family Fun Day The Office of Public Relations would like to thank everyone who took time to comment on FSU’s first Family Fun Day. Due to space limitations, only the below comments have been included. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I think Family Fun Day was a great success. I personally would like to thank the Chancellor, Dr. Bell and everyone that had a hand in the Family Fun Day. It really gave us a chance to let our hair down, forget about the office and enjoy our families and each other for a change. It allowed us to meet and network with people who work on campus that we never get to see or know what they do on a daily basis. I hope this is not a one-time thing but something that we can look forward to for years to come. It really was a great day for the FSU family. Veronica J. Mangum College of Basic & Applied Sciences I think that Family Fun Day was a complete success! And I am glad to see that some of the ideas and suggestions from post school conference were actually addressed. Hopefully this is not the first and last fun day put on the calendar. This kind of function would work for pre-school conference as well, to jump start faculty and staff for the new school year - like a “Pep Rally” would a game. Thanks to everyone involved! My son had a ball!!! Byron Riddick FSU Copy Center I thought the family fun day was a wonderful way to wrap up the end of the year. Much preferred over meetings! We all had a chance to just relax with each other in an informal setting, with our families in tow, and remember the reasons we’re happy to work at FSU. My grandson had an absolute ball…and that makes me very happy. I hope Family Fun Day becomes a regular event! Great job! Phoebe Hall Performing and Fine Arts Department I thought Family Fun Day was a blast! I loved being able to bring my son to work. We all spend so much time at our jobs that it was really nice for FSU to create a day where we could spend time with our families and colleagues. Family
Fun Day was the first time my 1 year old ate a sno-cone, threw a frisbee, or saw a live pony. Along with these memories, I will always remember his sticky and grinning face and be thankful that FSU made such a day possible. I, for one, can’t wait for the next Family Fun Day!! Jessica Lockamy Research Center for Health Disparities My name is Glenda Simpson, and I am employed at the Fort Bragg extension of FSU. I had a wonderful time at the FSU Family Fun Day event. My 7-year-old daughter also enjoyed herself immensely! The pony ride was her biggest attraction, along with the face painting. Thank you for a wonderful, well-put together employee fun day. The only suggestion that I have is perhaps scheduling the event to end at the same time the usual workday ends. This will accommodate those employees who brought their children by allowing them to be able to go home from the event; besides, the food was so good, it was hard for anyone to return to work after that! Two thumbs up!!!!! My two grandsons and I had a great time at the Fun Day. Hope it becomes a tradition. Wanda Kendrick Department of Natural Sciences Family Fun Day was the “best” that has happened in a while. Everything was done just right! The only additions I have to add are: 1) If there could be more tables and more seats. 2) More than one “food tent”. Have another one at another location surrounding the Gazebo. 3) And if possible, that we may be released to go home afterwards. It is very difficult to come back to your office and try to work on a full stomach! Thank you! Joan Milligan Chesnutt Library I thought family day was perfect. When I came to FSU, it felt right… after family day I knew it was home. Thanks to the chancellor and all who planned this event. Roxie M. Shabazz Enrollment Management
FSU HAPPENINGS I had a great time at Family and Fun Day. I didn’t participate in any of the games, but I really enjoyed the atmosphere. Everyone there seemed to be happy as well as relaxed. I don’t know about anyone else but my job can become very hectic and stressful at times and I think that we all needed a social gathering such as this. Everything was awesome --- the atmosphere, games, delicious food and the dynamic band. Three cheers for FAMILY FUN DAY!!!!! Walter Palmer Special Programs The day as a whole was a lot of fun, and everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves. I know I did. Some of the comments I received are that it would be nice if it could be held on a Saturday or Sunday so that spouses that work and school age children could attend without having leave work/school early.
out of school, this was really a good day. This was a first!” I have to agree with him, it was a very good afternoon. Alvin Marshall Facilities Management This was an outstanding event for wife and family. Recommend that a day like this be scheduled for the beginning of the school year. Maurice A. Wingfield University Career Services
Lisa Shirley Budget Office The Fun Day was real fun, well organized and executed. The lunch was good, and the band played some good music. How sweet and pleasant it was for faculty, staff and administration to come together as one and have a good time. My only regret was that I forgot my blue t-shirt, and my fear is that it may not happen again. Kwame Boakye-Sarpong Department of Government and History Family Fun Day was a great day for my son and I. I got out of school a little early so that he could attend. His exact words to me were “Dad thanks for coming and getting me
