Scouting the Falcons Offensive Outlook
• The Falcons are returning seven starters on the offensive side of the ball this season, including five backs and receivers from a season ago. • For the first time in his three year’s at Fairmont State, head coach Jason Woodman has named an offensive coordinator on his 2015 staff. Jeff Horrocks, last year’s wide receivers coach, was promoted to offensive coordinator in the spring. • Under first-year offensive line coach Ryan Schleusner, the Falcons will have new starters at both offensive tackle spots and at center this season. • Schleusner was a standout offensive lineman at the University of Missouri, where he played all five positions across the line during his career. Since his playing career, Schleusner has made stops at Northwest Missouri State, Northeastern Oklahoma A&M and Miami High School.
Guerra Turns into Reliable Playmaker
• Fabian Guerra earned first team All-MEC honors and third team All-Region honors a season ago after hauling in 63 receptions for 822 yards and five scores as a sophomore. His 63 catches were the fourth-most in a single season and his 822 yards were the seventh-most in a single season for an FSU receiver. • In the 2014 season opener against Notre Dame, Guerra hauled in 13 receptions for 247 yards and a touchdown, recording more years than any other receiver at any level for that weekend. The 247 yards is also a Fairmont State single-game receiving record. • Guerra also had seven games with five-or-more receptions and caught 12-of-more passes three times (three 100-yard performances).
Cooper Hibbs Returns to Lead Falcons
• In his six starts a season ago, Cooper Hibbs recorded four 300-yard passing performances and tossed 13 touchdowns to lead the FSU offense. • Hibbs opened the 2014 season with the fourth-best passing performance in school history with 415 yards against NDC. Hibbs also recorded four touchdown passes against NDC. • As a sophomore, Hibbs completed 58.7 percent of his passes and added two performances with at least three touchdown passes (Glenville State and Concord).
Experienced Backfield
• The Falcons also return two of their top three running backs from a season ago. Terrell Charles started four games early last season while battling injuries and ended the year with 147 yards on 45 carries and a touchdown. • Austin White played in nine games last season and made four starts in the backfield late in the season for FSU. White ended the year with 399 yards on 128 carries and crossed the goal line four times. • White also recorded the only 100-yard rushing performance of the season in 2014, totaling 24 carries for 108 yards against nationally-ranked Concord. In addition, White scored a touchdown in four-straight games last season.
New Leader Defensively
• The FSU defense returns five starters from a season ago and are under an entirely new defensive coaching staff, led by Defensive Coordinator Zach Crissup. Crissup joined the FSU coaching staff in the spring of 2015 and will run a base 4-3 look this season. • Crissup joins Fairmont’s staff after spending five seasons at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. Prior to coaching, Crissup was a standout safety at Oklahoma State under head coach Mike Gundy, Tim Beckman and current WVU assistant Joe DeForest. • Fairmont’s new defensive line coach Greg Richmond was also a standout at Oklahoma State, earning first team All-Big 12 honors and is still ranked fourth in school history with 21.5 career sacks.

Porter Becomes Quarterback of the Defense
• Standout middle linebacker Marcus Porter earned MEC honorable mention as a freshman after recording a team-high 69 tackles and picking off a pair of passes. Porter led the Falcons in tackles in five of the last six games. • Porter also recorded five-straight games with at least 10 tackles in 2014 to earn Freshman All-American honors from USA College Football.
Playmaker in the Defensive Backfield
• Junior defensive back Jacob Jean-Charles earned second team All-MEC two seasons ago as a freshman and has guarded the opponent’s top wide receiver for the last two seasons for the Falcons. • Last season, Jacob Jean-Charles recorded 51 tackles, pickedoff two passes, recorded five pass break-ups, recovered two fumbles and forced a fumble for the FSU defense. • Including Jean-Charles, each of the starting defensive backs on the FSU two-deep started and played a key role in the FSU secondary a season ago.
Key Defensive Additions
• The Falcons will be looking for key contributions from a pair of Division I transfers on the defensive side of the ball this season. • Darius Lee will start at outside linebacker after transferring from the University of Virginia back in the spring. Marco Jones also joins the FSU defense from Virginia and is slated to start at defensive end for the Falcons.
A Look at Last Year’s Conference Rankings
• Fairmont State was ranked last in scoring defense a season ago, giving up 36.1 points per game. The Falcons were also ranked 10th in total defense in 2014, giving up 452 yards per game to their opponent. • Fairmont State and West Virginia State were ranked 9th and 10th respectively in both scoring offense and rushing offense last season. • West Virginia State (10th) and Fairmont State (11th) were the worst in the league last season in turnover margin.
STATISTICAL COMPARISON
