Ask any current Fairmont State University football player who Tom Brady is and you’ll likely get a correct answer from each and every one of them.

They know Brady is the quarterback of the National Football League’s New England Patriots who has led his team to five Super Bowl appearances and three victories in the big game. Ask them who his guard/center was in Super Bowl XXXVI in 2001 when the Patriots won their first league championship on Adam Vinatieri’s 48-yard field goal on the game’s final play and you’ll likely stump them all. Well, maybe not now, but when 12-year NFL veteran and two-time Super Bowl champion Mike Compton first arrived on Fairmont State University’s campus as an assistant football coach in January of 2013 not many people realized who he was or what he had accomplished in his life. If I’d had Tom Brady in Detroit with Barry I might be like Bill Russell and have a ring for FWFSZ mOHFS w In 2001 Compton signed with New England where he started at guard and also played center when the Patriots went to the shotgun. In the second game of the 2001 season starting quarterback Drew Bledsoe endured a hard hit from New York Jets linebacker Mo Lewis which sidelined him for several weeks and opened the door for Brady who helped lead the Patriots to a division title and their first Super Bowl win – a 20-17 victory over the St. Louis Rams. In 2003 New England won its second Super Bowl, a 32-29 victory over CarPMJOB 5IBU TFBTPO $PNQUPO CBUUMFE JOKVSJFT and was sidelined for most of the year.

'ARON "ELSER #ENTER OF !TTENTION 3EPTEMBER By Duane Cochran for fightingfalcons.com

Over the course of the last two-plus years there’s been very few offensive plays run by Fairmont State’s football team that didn’t start with the ball in Garon Belser’s hands.

Yet it’s likely that most Falcon fans have no idea who Belser is. That’s fine. Belser, you see, takes it all in stride. He’s very familiar with the term anonymity and has been for quite some time. He understands his role on the team and does it week in and week out to near perfection.
