DIY YOUR HOME DECOR WITH URVEE PANDA

Hi I am Urvee Panda, I am an architecture student and this are few ideas about interior design

This are the five basic tips for the designers.

1. In order to make a big statement, you must do it structurally. If you want to create a rememberable room, do something with the structure of the room. This could include wall treatments, adding or removing a wall, or even arching a door way. 2. For smaller details in spaces, use paints, patterns, work with different materials and make products from best out of waste. 3. Think about the functionality of the room and how people will interact in it. If you are designing a public space then a 3 person couch may not work because strangers may be forced to sit next to each other if the only available seat is the one in the middle. Where in reality individual seating would be best! Also, think about which way doors open and traffic flow in the room you are working on. 4. Get down to the core of the design problem. This goes with all design projects. When a client hires us, we need to figure out exactly what it is they want us to accomplish with the space. Ask detailed questions to figure out what they like, what they don’t like, the function of the space, your budget, etc. 5. It is all about the client. When designing for a client, it is not always about what we personally like, it is what they want. Your number one goal is to make the client happy, especially since they are paying you! Just because we like a certain colour or piece of furniture, if there is no justification for it then we shouldn’t use it. For example, if I love the colour teal I cannot choose it just because I like it. If it honestly works in the room, then I need to be able to explain why it is a good choice for that space.

Some INTERIOR Ideas By Urvee

Mistakes to avoid for interior design 1. Matching Everything – It looks like you bought your room off the furniture store floor. Try to avoid using all matching furniture sets, matching frames, etc. Mix it up to create more interest and depth in the room. Try it today. If you have a room full of all matching furniture, swap the chair or ottoman with one from another room and see the difference it makes. 2. Spreading Out a Collection – You might think by displaying one of your treasured collectibles in every room of your house, you are getting the biggest impact. When in fact, you are diminishing the impact of the collection. Instead, display all the same type of collectible in one place for the biggest bang. 3. Grouping Objects in Even Numbers – It is better to place objects in odd number groupings, like 1, 3, or 5. Groupings of 3 objects with varying heights always works. 4. Everything the Same Height – To create interest you need to vary the height of things grouped together. If you are grouping things in threes, as suggested above, make sure they are three different heights.

INTERVIEWING HER AND HER LATEST COLLECTION : SUNITA LAKHERA Interviewer: “Can you please give a brief about yourself?” Sunita: “Yes, of course. I’ve studied textile technology and I’ve been into this business since 1994. I started this business by designing for my friends when I was in my university and when I was staying in hostel and then slowly I started getting more orders, and that’s how I started developing my business. Interviewer: Okay okay, that’s great. I: Okay Sunita, so as we know about you now, we would like to know what did inspire you to be a fashion designer? S: I do not remember not being interested in fashion, since I was in the university as I told you, I’ve been designing for my friends in my hostel and when I was in my school, I used to open up my old garments to see how the stitching was done and how it was made and then slowly, this passion turned into profession. I: We wanted to know how to you manage being tradionally Indian designer from London? S: That is not a very big issue. Like most of my clients there who wear my designs are mostly Indians who have moved to London or who are based in London now. I: So Sunita, how do you think of your line of collection, where do you get your inspiration from? S: Inspiration can be from anywhere. Like sometimes I get inspiration from nature or sometimes from the designers I follow, like if they have come out with a new collection I’ve really liked, maybe I’d design in that line. But about my collection I will say, I’ve don’t like using much of embroidery or bling on my garments. My garments are mostly elegant and simple. I would definitely say that wearing my design, one would definitely stand out in the crowd Plus I like to experiment with the fabrics I use. Like I said, for this collection I’ve used sarees on rayon or I have made lehngas with modal or jute.

I: So how much difference do you feel in London than in India? S: The main difference I feel is that we use different fabrics. For India, we use more of cotton and linen based, while when designing for clients in London, I use fabrics keeping in mind the conditions there, like it is very cold there so I use thicker fabrics and fabrics which are not to be dry cleaned too much.

I: So talking about your line of collection, we would like to know what is the latest line of collection you’ve shot with our magazine FTL? S: The recent one I’ve done with FTL is a mix of contemporary sarees and lehngas and I’ve tried to experiments different styles of designs and fabrics. I: So you being the inspirational designers for many, we would like to know which designer inspires you the most and why? S: I think I like the designs of Manish Malhotra the best, I like the fabrics he uses. Like his garments looks very graceful and colourful yet subtle and not very loud and bling. I: So Sunita, lastly, we would like to know how you feel about your achievements. S: I think I’ve a lot to achieve yet and I always try to do better than my last collection and definitely sky is not the limit.

VALENTINE’S DAY

Valentine’s Day is Named After Saint Valentine. It is said that St. Valentine while in prison, fell in Love with a jailer’s daughter and when he was being taken to be killed on the 14th February, he wrote a love letter to her and signed it “from your valentine”. Thus the name ‘VALENTINE’ was born.
