WHAT’S NEW?

This past weekend in Buffalo South Carolina the FTR Enduro series kicked off with the Little Brown Jug! It was awesome to finally be back at the races and get to see our FTR family again. The weather was absolutely perfect all weekend long which made for a great day of racing.

I was on row 24 so the trail was in great shape for me this year, compared to last year’s starting position on row 86. The event consists of six individually scored tests which are all challenging in their own unique way. Tests 1 and 6 were extremely long compared to the others. I struggled with the hard packed soil and the extremely tight trees early on in the first test. Thirty minutes in I washed the front end while trying to avoid a log my buddy Alex Lugar shot in the trail while making a pass on me, and I realized that this race was going to be won by slowing down a bit and flowing with the trail as opposed to the normal dump the clutch and hold it wide open mentality that a lot of us Florida sand riders tend to have. The next 4 tests were shorter tests where you were able to push pretty hard without trying to conserve energy. I was able to pace off Kyle McAfee in the opening few minutes of each test which really forced me to ride the motorcycle properly as well as focus on hitting good lines. It’s very easy to find yourself in “No man’s land” with the way the enduro events are structured so it’s extremely important to make sure you are always trying to push forward even if you’re riding solo.

Test 6 was another long one but it played right into my strengths which allowed me to push my limits and win the last test which was enough to give me the win in A200. The LBJ is a fantastic race and one that I will make sure to attend as long as it’s around.

I hope you guys enjoyed my write up and I look forward to improving my writing and riding throughout the season. Can’t wait to see you all at Bartow!
