SUMMER 2018 - Session I - FINAL EXHIBIT May 31st - July 11 th, 2018 @CORRIDOIO FIORENTINO Photographs from the students of the Summer 2018 - Session I - class of “Landscape and Architectural Photography”. Instructor: Marco Gualtieri. Intermediate level students advanced their knowledge of the principles of digital photography and acquired the foundations of their visual vocabulary. Students applied techniques obtained during the course to a specific photographic genre: landscape and architectural photography. Making the most of the exceptional environment that Florence and the Tuscany region offer, they explored the urban and natural landscapes in order to create a cohesive photographic portfolio. In this exhibit we present a selection of their achievements.
‘EN PLEIN AIR ’ “Try to forget what objects you have before you - a tree, a house, a field, or whatever. Merely think, 'Here is a little square of blue, here an oblong of pink, here a streak of yellow,' and paint it just as it looks to you, the exact color and shape, until it gives you your own impression of the scene before you.” Claude Monet The desire to capture the landscape while being immersed in it connects painters and photographers alike. The practice goes back for centuries but was truly made into an art form by the French Impressionists of the 19th Century. The students in the Summer 2018 intermediate level Landscape and Architectural Photography Class, taught by Professor Gualtieri, have explored the sceneries in front of them , both natural and urban, and captured the atmospheres created by the light, depicting its changing and ephemeral qualities. The viewers will engage in a visual journey that will make them feel part of the landscape. Marco Gualtieri is a landscape photographer based in Florence, Italy. He has a Master’s degree in Visual Arts from DAMS (Drama, Art, and Music Studies) University of Bologna, Italy; a Bachelor’s degree in Cinematography from the National Film School of Rome; a certificate in Documentary and Photojournalism from the International Center of Photography of New York. His work has been exhibited in the United States, where he has lived and worked for the past decade. Marco is currently based in Florence and collaborates with Florence University of the Arts as a photography instructor.
