Florence University of the Arts students are proud to announce the opening of an exhibition of the artwork of Luigi Tamanini, “Waiting”, at 6pm on March 1st, 2017. Curation of this exhibit is done on behalf of FUA by students in the Gallery and Exhibition Curating Experiential Learning program. The event will take place at Ganzo, located in via dei Macci 85r, where there will be appetizers and drinks to celebrate the artist. Nearly 30 works by Tamanini will be featured, including pieces on canvas, wood, and cardboard coasters. The exhibition at Ganzo will display a collection of some of Tamanini’s most recent productions. These include portraits, diptychs and triptychs, among other innovative and conceptual creations in various mediums and sizes. This is an opportunity to view works that illustrate yet another era in the contemporary style of Luigi Tamanini, one episode in the greater narrative of his immense artistic talent. After switching careers from architect to painter, Tamanini was an apprentice to visionary mid-twentieth century Italian artists such as Joka Frima and Nerina Simi. Upon finishing his education in the arts and holding an exhibition displaying his exceptional abilities in traditional realism painting, Tamanini says that he asked himself, “Do I want to remain in classical painting, or do I want to develop something new?” And so Tamanini transitioned towards a stunning contemporary style that is as bold as it is beautiful. His works are distinctive gestural portraits and thematic scenes that comment on relationships, sexuality, inner demons, and all aspects of humanity in between. Vivid colors, fresh motifs, and staggering figures are only some of the components that characterize Tamanini’s dynamic artistic style. Tamanini has also been featured in many previous exhibitions. These include shows in Crotone, Fiesole, Pistoia, Prato, Milano, and Trento. In addition, he is recognized in a painter’s associations (Del Paiolo) and has received prizes for his artwork, such as the prestigious Fiorino d’oro. When asked what inspires him to paint or where he finds the faces in his works, Tamanini stated, “There is not a gender I love to paint, I love painting. There is no narrative, I want to create the moment that something happens. I love what is beautiful.” The exhibition is organized and promoted by students at FUA.

Oltre 30 coloratissime opere pittoriche su tela, legno e cartone, ultime opere del pittore trentino adottato dalla città di Firenze, che includono ritratti, trittici, e creazioni concettuali in varie forme, soluzioni e dimensioni. U no stile conte mporan e o dalla grande capacità narrativa, oltre ad un talento già riconosciuto negli anni, che lo ha portato ad abbandonare l’architettura per la p i t t u r a , d o p o e s s e r e s t a t o apprendista di ta nti artisti visionari della metà del ‘900, come Joka Frima and Nerina Simi. I suoi quadri si distinguono nei ritratti gestuali e nelle scene quotidiane che descrivono, per un tratto semplice ma d’effetto, relazioni, sessualità, persino demoni, resi con colori vivaci, motivi freschi, in uno stile decisamente dinamico. Le opere in mostra al Ganzo, ﬁ no al 4 Aprile, sono state selezionate dagli studenti del corso di Gallery and Exhibition Curating della FUA Florence University of the Arts.

Born in 1946, in Trento, Luigi Tamanini studied engineering in his hometown, which he describes as a cultural center thanks to its proximity to other European countries like Switzerland and Austria, as well as Slovenia. He ﬁrst pursued a career in architecture for three years in Trento before moving to Florence in 1972. Here, Tamanini continued his career in architecture until 1990, when he decided to pursue his lifelong passion in the Fine Arts. Nato nel 1946, a Trento, Luigi Tamanini è un pittore di lunga esperienza, ha esposto in tutta Italia, in particolare a Crotone, Firenze, Pistoia, Prato, Milano e a Trento. Vive a Firenze dal 1972, dove ha continuato la sua carriera di architetto ﬁno al 1990, quando ha deciso di passare alla sua passione per tutta la vita nelle belle arti. Tamanini ha ricevuto, nel 2001 il Fiorino d’oro, il più importante riconoscimento per le personalità che hanno dato lustro a Firenze.
