LETTER FROM THE PUBLISHER

We are going to have a great month in April. As I am writing this it is a sunny day in March and going to hit 82+ today so I’m a happy guy. This riding season is going to jam packed with great rides and events. Our calendar here at Full Throttle is certainly filling up fast. We will be announcing lots of great rides as the weeks pass, so you have to stay tuned into our magazine and our Facebook so you don’t miss any of the great things happening in our area. The 7th Annual Grease Gears and Grooves event will be held this year on Saturday July 11, 2015 and promises to be the biggest and best GGG ever put together. We will be at Sunset Ford again this year but with several changes to allow us more space for the car and bike show entries. The funds raised this year will go to our good friends at Bikers Against Child Abuse. We are true believers in this organization and hope every one of you come out and bring a friend to help raise money for this awesome group. We are beginning to sign up Sponsors and Vendors for the event so be sure and email me or call before we fill up and you miss out. Bike and car show entries will be able to pre-sign up also by emailing me or you can sign up the morning of the event. We are truly grateful to the great people at Sunset Ford again this year for allowing us to host GGG at their facility. So when you need a ford or any pre-owned vehicle stop by and see the biker friendly folks at Sunset Ford. We are also very proud to be the exclusive Motorcycle Magazine sponsor of the 2015 Lake of the Ozark Bikefest. This is going to be a HUGE event this year with some new things Full Throttle Magazine will be bring to the party. I’m sure just about everyone

has heard that ole’ Proverb “A Stitch in Time Saves Nine”? For those of you who may not know or understand the meaning of this proverb, it’s rather simple. It has to deal with procrastination; dealing with a small problem now to avoid a larger problem later. This is something that Jerry Klich nicknamed “Stitch”, the owner of Top Stitch Interiors, has lived by his whole life. From a very young age, Jerry was always after enterprise; mowing lawns, washing cars; anything to earn money. By the time he turned thirteen; a friend of the family took notice of his entrepreneurial, enterprising skills and offered him a job at his automotive interior upholstery shop. After learning a few skills, one Saturday, there were a couple of guys that didn’t show

up for work; Jerry stepped up and filled in the gaps. At the age of fourteen, just one year after he started working at this shop, the owner realized that Jerry’s skill set and learning capabilities far surpassed many of the season veterans.

By the time he was seventeen, it was suggested by his school counselor that he leave high school and enroll into a trade school. The reason behind this suggestion was, it had become quite clear that Jerry more than excelled in his elective classes; wood shop, auto shop and even gym. Academically he fell short. His parents did not have the money for trade school and since he had been doing upholstery from the age of thirteen, they felt it would be best if he continued the path of automotive upholstery under the supervision of his current boss. He worked for Mayberry Upholstery in Belleville, IL up to the age of nineteen where he went to St. Louis and put in an application at Eddie’s Auto Top on Manchester Road. Eddie’s Auto Top had three locations around town. He was hired on and commuted back and forth from Belleville to St. Louis every day. At 21 years old, Jerry’s skills impressed Eddie so much so that he made him manager of his Florissant location. He worked for Eddie for about four years and ended up deciding to move to Northern California to be closer to some of his family out west. California became his second home of 42 years. When Jerry moved out west he worked for an upholstery shop for about four months and decided to open his own business called “Sew Fine Interiors” specializing in Street Rods.

tch in Time Throughout the years he continued honing his craft. He became so good that in 1985 his work was recognized by the Auto Trim Association and certified him as a Certified Master Craftsman in his field. At that time there were 350 individuals that were certified in a five year period. Now that number has dwindled down to fifty.

Jerry’s work is recognized around the world; earning award after award, trophy after trophy. All the work he does is from scratch; from the fabrication, to the sewing, to the installation and trim work. Not only does he do complete restoration and fabrication projects, he also does simple repairs, center consoles, headliners, door panels for any automobile and custom motorcycle seats. He leaves no “Stitch” undone. About nine years ago he decided to move back to St. Louis to be close to some family that stills remain out here in the mid-west. He moved his company, Sew Fine Interiors to continue his work. Four years ago, due to some unforeseen complications, he change his company name to what is now known as “Top Stitch Interiors”. Remember

when

I

mentioned that the number of Certified Master Craftsman went from 350 down to 50? Well, Ranken Technical College saw that same drop in numbers. This is becoming a dying trade. They realized that there is a true need in this market. The people at the college were very familiar with Jerry’s work and approached him, about two and a half years ago, to see if he would be willing to teach a new class on automotive upholstery. Jerry also seeing the need in the market accepted the position. Teaching these young minds all the skills Jerry’s has learned throughout the years is a real joy for him. He couldn’t be more proud to pass along a love and passion for automotive interior work. He doesn’t want to see this field die off. There is a very important element when it comes to automotive interior. It’s the attention to detail that separates the pre-made forms that come in a box from the show stopping, award winning, tricked out automobiles. “A Stitch in Time Saves Nine” Words to live by. Jerry will be seventy this year and if he allowed procrastination and the lack of determination to get in his way, he would not be the best of the best in his field. If you want to be the best, then learn from the best. If you want to have the best, then you need to get it from the best. Jerry “Stitch” Klich; Top Stitch Interiors is the BEST!

“Motorcycle Queen of Miami”

One of the main reasons that I chose this series to write about was because it shows me how powerful women can be. Sure there are a lot of powerful and influential women in the world. But this is a motorcycle and car magazine right? So talking about Margaret Thatcher would seem out of place. What I’m focusing on are all the power women who have changed the motorcycle industry. So I press on. Next up is Bessie Stringfield. She is the First woman to ride a solo trip across the United State eight times.

she received all of her skills from Jesus Christ. Her strong faith is what got her through so many nights. Having to combat that fact that she was a female motorcycle rider in the 1930’s and 1940’s and that she was African American made it difficult to find shelter for the night. There were many nights that she would pull into a gas station and she would lean back on the gas tank using her jacket as a pillow and propped her legs up on the rear fender to use her bike as a bed. There were other times that she would encounter polite strangers of the Bessie faced two changes in your endeavors; same ethnicity who would take her in for the night all the one being that she was a woman and the other while knowing that the Lord will always provide for her. that she was an African American Woman. First Lady of In a tough male based sport that was not ready to accept women as competitors, the most tenacious of them all went against the odds and set precedence for all women drivers to follow. No wallets, keys, carry but a select flashlights, change, wads of paper, or bits of strings. We few will use nothing at all. Best advice I can give had a young man in the store pull his pocket pistol out you is use a holster. Using a holster can prevent you after trying to get the keys out of his pocket first. When from having to do many things, such as, constantly he failed he pulled everything out, low and behold the key touching your pistol to adjust the orientation of your ring was around the trigger. Imagine if he would have gun, your pistol slipping consequently falling down needed the gun to defend himself, let alone if he tugged a pant leg, you having to stash your gun somewhere on the keys hard enough to actually pull the trigger? while using the restroom (and maybe forgetting it on the back of a public toilet or toilet paper dispenser), I have mixed feelings about carrying a firearm in a putting your life at risk when your pistol isn’t where it bag; you need complete control at all times. SHADY JA everyone was able to be a part of Shady Jack’s. The one thing that he always asked in return was to be respectful. “Be respectful to me and I’ll do the same in return and respect everyone in my home.” Jack got respect and gave it back. Jack owned several buildings along the waterfront in downtown St. Louis at Broadway and Cass for well over 20 years. Most of those buildings sat vacant and riddled with fire damage. It took nearly four years to restore and in the fall of 2005, Jack chose to move Shady Jack’s from his location in Villa Ridge to the buildings that he owned on the waterfront. Once completed, the doors of the new Shady Jack’s opened bigger and better than ever. The spring of the following year, a lovely Shady Jack’s Saloon is one of the most well lady by the name of Ann started working for know “Biker Bar” establishments in the entire Jack. A great partnership developed and Jack and Ann married in November of 2013. So how did Shady Jack’s come to be? It all began in the small town of Villa Ridge. ACK’S "THE STORY" Jack continued this tradition when he moved to his waterfront location, but decided to take it further. Now he serves, Thanksgiving dinner, not only to those with no families but to those families that do not have homes. What an awesome way to give back. Shady Jack’s is one of the main hubs for many events throughout the riding season. The biggest event that I think all of you are very familiar with is the “Rat Run”. Jack and Tony Bono, the owner of Cadillac Jacks, were good friends and with Cadillac Jack closing its doors, people were asking where is the Rat Run going to be now? With Tony Bono’s permission, Jack stepped up and carried on where Tony left off. After Jack took over the Rat Run, it has grown exponentially

of downtown St Louis it also is so well known and a revenue generating establishment. They went back and redesigned their plans to include Shady Jack’s as one of the waterfront businesses that will thrive within the belly of revitalization project. These plans will include more bars and restaurants along the riverfront which Jack and Ann welcome. They both feel that competition is healthy. Having more businesses like theirs will help bring more people down to the waterfront and in turn bring more revenue to their doors.

Jack and Ann can finally wipe the sweat off the brow, roll up their sleeves and get back to work. With this good news, its full steam ahead; plans are becoming a reality. From a new POS system, to the deck and bar expansion, to a larger kitchen; they are getting Now, the burning question that is on everyone ready for great things to come their way. minds; is Shady Jack’s in jeopardy because of the waterfront/stadium revitalization project? So the next time you are down at Shady At first, Shady Jack’s was set to be one of the Jack’s, take a moment to say hi to Jack and establishments that was going to be on the Ann and tell them you are happy to know chopping block. There was a major uproar. they are here to stay. Jack might just entertain What’s going to happen? Is Jack going to move you with a story or two in the process. to a new location or is he going to shut his doors for good. Facebook pages were created “Save Shady Jack’s”! Flyers were put out; Petitions were signed; all trying to save our beloved bar. Jack and Ann literally had to put all their plans of growth to a screeching halt. There were radio interviews, TV news interviews asking for Jacks opinion. Everyone else was saying, “How could this be; there is so much history with this place?” Good News is on the horizon. After the waterfront revitalization committee took a second look at the whole situation, they realized that not only does Shady Jack’s sit in a historical area www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com Page 33

NEVER FORGOTTEN

Dr. Drobkin was a world-famous cardiologist who earned his undergraduate, graduate, and medical degrees in his hometown and then left for Manhattan where he quickly rose to the top of his field. Soon he was invited to deliver a significant paper, at a conference held in his hometown. He walked on stage, placed his papers on the lectern, but they slid off onto the floor. As he bent over to retrieve them, at precisely the wrong instant, he inadvertently farted. The microphone amplified his mistake resoundingly through the lecture room and reverberated it down the hall! He was quite embarrassed but somehow regained his composure just enough to deliver his paper. He ignored the resounding applause and raced out the stage door, never to be seen in his hometown again. Decades later, when his elderly mother was ill, he returned to visit her. He reserved a hotel room under the name of Cohen and arrived under cover of darkness. The desk clerk asked him, “Is this your first visit to our city, Mr. Cohen?” Dr. Drobkin replied, “Well, young man, no, it isn’t. I grew up here, received my education here, but then moved away.” “Why haven’t you visited?” asked the desk clerk. “Actually, I did visit once, many years ago, but an embarrassing thing happened and since then I’ve been too ashamed to return.” The clerk consoled him, “Sir, while I don’t have your life

NO BACKSEAT BLONDES

A blonde goes on a hot date and ends up making out with the guy in his car. The guy asks if she would like to go in the backseat. “No!” yells the blonde. Things get even hotter, and the guy asks again. “For the last time, no!” says the blonde. Frustrated, the guy asks, “Well, why the hell not?” The blonde says, “Because I wanna stay up here with you!”

THE ANSWER

A chicken and an egg are lying in bed. The chicken takes out a cigarette and begins to smoke. The egg, pissed off, takes one look at the chicken, rolls over and pulls the blanket over him and says, “I guess we answered that question!”

HAPPY BUTT

A teacher asks the new student her name. The girl replies, “Happy Butt.” The teacher says, “I don’t think that’s your name. You need to go to the principal’s office and get this straightened out.” The girl goes to the principal’s office and he asks, “What’s your name?” The little girl says, “Happy Butt.” The principal calls the girl’s mother to get the truth. After getting off the phone, he says, “Honey, your name is Gladys, not Happy Butt.” The girl exclaims, “Glad Ass -- Happy Butt -- what’s the difference?”

you hear the name “Pearl” a lot of things come to mind, for you women out there, I’m sure it goes right to jewelry. To some, it may go to ZZ Top and their Very popular song, “ELIMINATOR”. One of the most recognized cars for years & probably still is; is the 1933 FORD. For Robert Eufinger “Pearl” also makes him think elegant, classy and even HOT ROD. A Hot Rod doesn’t have to be red. They can come in all shapes and sizes and any color that fits your fancy. Hot Rods started with what a lot of us now call “Street Rods”. This great example is truly both; it has the nice gold pearl paint giving it a look of a cool cruiser but underneath the smooth & shinny exterior it has all of the Go-Fast power. Robert didn’t want just an average Hot Rod; he wanted the best. So, how do you get the Best? You do it yourself, or as much as you can on your own. I’m sure you all have heard of Pete & Jakes “The California Kid” another World Famous FORD.

When it came to the body, Robert went to another well-known company; Redneck Street Rods. He chose the ’33 Tudor Sedan body. To insure a perfect fit, that is also strong, they joined the floor to the body while it was sitting on the frame. To add to the cool factor, Robert also chose to have suicide doors by using hidden stainless steel hinges & bear claw latches for safety.
