Softail Custom Hey guys and gals, Seth here from Doc’s HarleyDavidson bringing you another one of our beautiful inhouse customs. This month we are featuring one of our loyal customer’s latest builds. This 2010 Softail Custom, powered by the astonishing 120R, does more than just look and sound good. When I first met Mr. Reed, he and I hit it off like old friends. He immediately started talking to me about his 2010 Softail Custom and telling me things he’d like to do with it. When I first laid eyes on his bike, it had the 96 cubic inch punched out to an impressive Stage 4 103 cubic inch with all of the goodies, but somehow it still wasn’t quite quick enough for Scott. We started devising a plan to meet all of his needs. First of all, he loves all things chrome, so when we started talking about swapping the engine I suggested we replace the stock wrinkle black inner primary with a chrome inner primary. Next, with the 120R installed, we had to make the air and exhaust flow better. Instead of the 58mm throttle body we used the giant Screamin’ Eagle 62mm throttle body paired with the Screamin’ Eagle Heavy Breather. We then swapped the Vance & Hines Straight Shots with Vance & Hines Big Shot Staggered to keep the traditional look and sound. Along with the boat loads of new chrome, we’ve installed a fresh 5 ¾” Harley-Davidson Daymaker headlamp to freshen up the look of the entire bike. We replaced the stock sliders on the front forks with the Arlen Ness smooth sliders for a much cleaner look. If you like the looks of this bike or have a project of your own in mind, come on down to Doc’s Harley-Davidson and ask for Seth Lowman and let me give you a VIP tour of our dealership and let’s make your dream a reality. Remember Doc’s is open seven days a week for your convenience! Look forward to seeing you soon! Check us out on Facebook or on our website: docsh-d.com www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

July will open up with the annual Raising of the Flag at Doc’s Harley Davidson on July 4th. Doc’s will also host Military Appreciation Free Lunch on July 8th. July 6th will be the St Charles Harley Bike Night and the Circus UNA Motorcycle Thrill Show that will be a spectacular night. Mid America Harley will be hosting the Million Dollar Bike Show on July 22nd and that event is worth the ride to Columbia. Ozark Harley will have their Artistry in Iron Open House on July 29th. If you haven’t been to Ozark Harley or you haven’t been there in a while, get on your scooter and go. It’s always a great time at Ozark Harley. Of course, we have all our local bike night throughout July. Along with St Charles Harley’s Bike Night, there’s One Eyed Willie’s Bike Night on Thursday, July 20th. And, as always, the Biggest and Best Weekly Bike Night is at Bobby’s Place in Valley Park every Weds night through October. These are just some of the many events and rides happening in July. Watch the Full Throttle Magazine Midwest Facebook to keep up with all the things happening in the area. I want to mention again that the Lake of the Ozark Bikefest is happening this year from Weds, September 13th through Sunday September 17th and will be Bigger and Better this year than ever before. This is the Midwest largest Bike Rally and one that you certainly don’t want to miss. If you haven’t reserved your room call our friends at Lodge of the Four Seasons and mention Promo Code 300076 for a special rate for the event. I hope to see everyone there to support this event in our home state of Missouri. The Biggest and Best bike event in the country is happening in about a month and of course that is STURGIS. We will be heading out the first week of August to cover the awesome rides and all the fun happenings that will go on this year. Full Throttle Saloon has been working hard to get their new location ready and will be more finished than last year. Downtown Sturgis has made some improvements to the street and surroundings and will be a great host for the event. As always, the folks at Black Hills Harley will host a huge array of vendors and food and always is a must stop location. We will most likely make that a frequent stop. There are so many awesome places to ride and so, so many things to do. If you’ve been there you already know and if you have never been there, you better pack you stuff and make reservations to go this year. We will do our best to keep pictures updated on our Facebook for those of you who can’t go to see what’s happen this year. Hope to bump into lots of you at many of these events in July. As always my friends ride safe and see you on the road with Full Throttle Magazine. Bob

re you in the market to get a new paint job on one of your toys; either on your motorcycle or car? Hell, even your guitar. Sean O’laker, Owner of Radical Revisions is your man. Sean has been painting and airbrushing professionally for over 30 years. He has painted cars, motorcycles, guitars, gun safes; pretty much anything you can think of he has probably painted, and is damn good at it. There is a wide range of things he can paint/airbrush for you. All you need to do is give him a call and ask if it can be done. In the 30 years Sean has been doing this, he has painted for a long list of very reputable shops. Gateway Harley-Davidson, Doc’s Harley-Davidson, and Just Hawgs, to name just a few. And, the Owner of Full Throttle Magazine Midwest just had his 2003 Springer Softail recently painted by Radical Revisions, and it turned out beyond amazing. It is one of the most detailed, badass paint jobs out there. If all those shops choose Sean for their custom work, you should have no fear of whether he is a good choice for you. We all know deciding on a custom painted job on your bike can be a very hard decision. You want it to be perfect, and choosing the right place and the right person can be very nerve racking. But, not with them, I’m telling you Radical Revisions is the place to go. Once you sit down and talk with Sean and plan everything out, you too will be convinced he is the right pick for you. Before he opened his own shop, he was a textile engineer and did the painting and airbrushing on the side. Sean has always had a love for art since he was a little boy. He was always drawing and painting in school. Sean was only 17 years old when he painted his first car, and he loved it. He truly has a gift that not a lot of people have. Another one of Radical Revisions specialties is the ability to pick people’s brains to figure out what they truly want. That is one of the most challenging parts of this profession. A lot of people come to them with an idea in their mind but it is hard for them to get out exactly what they want and the exact colors they want. They come in with a basic idea and will sit down with Sean to help you figure out exactly what your brain is thinking. He want’s your ideas to come to life and to be no less than perfect. This past January is when he decided to open his own shop/ business and do this full time; calling it “Radical Revisions”. He named it Radical Revisions because he loves to take a stock motorcycle for example, and completely revise/transform it into a new looking machine. The

transformations he makes are incredible. You really need to see his artwork in person to truly appreciate it. Pictures are great, but they don’t give as good of a view as in person. He pulls the idea straight from your brain. He will ask you a series of simple questions to start. For example, easy questions like “what’s your favorite color?” and “what’s your least favorite color?” He first puts it on paper to give you a general idea. Then he will show you different paint colors on paper so you can really see what it is going to look like as a finished product. Sean doesn’t want to get so far into the process, to realize you don’t like it. He makes sure you know what you are getting. A lot of other painters don’t put the time and effort into their jobs like Radical Revision’s does. It might not be as fast as some people would like, being they are inpatient, but it is a high-quality job that will last for years and years. He has seen bikes 17 years later, that if kept in good shape, still look like he just painted them. They start from the ground up so to say. Nintey-nine percent of the motorcycles Sean paints is taken down to the raw metal. There are many layers of paint and airbrushing that must be applied. Also, there is a lot of sanding done by hand to get to the raw metal; Plus, he must fix any dents and/or imperfections. Radical Revision’s strive on longevity of the paint. You don’t want to have to come back in a couple years and have it repainted do you? At the end of the day what makes Sean happy is when his customers are happy. He told me, “I wouldn’t be here without all of my great customers. They mean the world to me. There would be no business at all without them.” One of his favorite parts of this job is when the customer first comes to look at their finished product. The excitement on their face truly makes him keep doing this. It drives him to keep working. He also has customers who give him a true challenge. They ask him to paint/do things he has never done before. Sean loves that. He will always do everything in his ability to make your dream paint job come to life. He wants to give a big THANKS to all his customers new and old. This would’ve never been possible without them. www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

TJ Bar

Terry Sharp (owner of TJ’s Bar and Grill in Pevely, MO) has been in the bar industry for 40 plus years; so it is no surprise that his bar and grill is such a popular destination. It is most definitely a biker friendly destination, but Terry welcomes and wants anyone and everyone to stop by. From your family eating lunch after church on Sunday, to your bikers who love to take a nice ride, and stop by and drink a cold beer and eat some of TJ’s famous wings, pizza, and all the other good grub. Twenty-four years ago, when Terry bought the building and opened TJ’s Bar and Grill, he hoped if he treated all his customers like he wants to be treated and served high quality, delicious food, and good cold beer, that TJ’s could be successful. Over the course of those years, he has proven his theory is correct; by treating his customers with respect and providing quality of service, he has gained a tremendously loyal customer base that continues to grow everyday. Terry loves to see people happy, especially his customers. I think this is a big reason why TJ’s Bar and Grill is so successful.

The environment also plays a huge role; you just feel welcome as soon as you walk through the front door. Terry and his family work so hard day and night to make sure everyone enjoys their experience. Don’t be surprised if you leave TJ’s with a few new people you will call friends. If you have never visited TJ’s you are truly missing out. They have a huge menu, lots of ice cold beer, an awesome beer garden, and a huge patio in the back. He also, on occasion, have washer and bag tournaments. He has a huge area right next to the beer garden that he has designated just for those tournaments. There is also a huge game room in the back with pool tables, golden tee and an awesome iTunes jukebox. Along with the great service and welcoming environment, there’s the FOOD. TJ’s menu covers just about everything; from burgers and BBQ, to fish and steaks, to pizza and wings, to sandwiches and wraps and even a huge breakfast menu. Everything is made from high quality, fresh ingredients. A very popular menu choice is TJ’s chicken wings and pizza. He makes ALL his sauces from scratch that everyone just loves; including Full Throttle.

Terry, his wife Sue, and his son Blake, were nice enough to have me come out for lunch. I gave everything I tried a five out of five . The wings were perfectly cooked and the hot sauce was amazing. Blake is really a great cook. While I was waiting for the rest of my order, Blake was also cooking for the rest of the bar, which was about 10 other tables and a few of them had larger parties. I was rather impress how he handled all of that by himself. After my wings, came the monster of all burgers. I had ordered TJ’s famous grilled cheese burger. Apparently, I had no idea what I was in for; it was huge. This burger was a half-pound patty in between two full grilled cheese sandwiches. Yup, you read correctly; two grilled cheese sandwiches with a half pound burger in the middle. Man, it was so good. One of the more overlooked things at TJ’s that customers really need to give a try, is there steaks; they are truly amazing! Terry uses a U.S.D.A butcher cut beef ordered directly from a local butcher every week. They cook them to perfection, and the prices are surprisingly low for the quality of beef you get. There are steak houses out there that would charge you twice as much for the same quality and freshness as what you get at TJ’s. They have three different cuts they serve; the Porterhouse, Ribeye, and New York Strip. TJ’s also has live acoustic music in the beer garden every Sunday, there is a stage set up right at the front. The Fridays when they do the party on the patio they also offer live music. They have some amazing acoustic bands/players to come out and play for their customers. So, if you have never been to TJ’s you need to saddle up and get over there ASAP. If you have been there I don’t need to tell you to go back because I’m sure you already have and will continue to do so. It’s just that kind of place. Terry and his family want to say a big thanks to all their customers. None of this would be possible without them. They are so grateful for everyone that walks through their doors, and you will feel that when you get there. So, ride safe and maybe you will see Full Throttle Magazine at one of TJ’s great events. Also, don’t forget to check out TJ’s Bar and Grill on Facebook and give them a quick like, and stay caught up on all the events.

As I “RECALL”

elcome back Full Throttle readers and riders! The summer heat is in full effect, the rubber is rolling, the season is here and business is booming! Riders are rolling into St Charles Harley Davidson for anything and everything they need to keep the scooter in tip top shape and on the cutting edge of cool! With the roll out of the new Milwaukee eights came some huge excitement, big changes and well; let’s be honest some apprehension.

As with any new model release there is always the thought of “I really should wait a year before I buy that new model…”. And this applies to anything really. As consumers we often wonder, have all the kinks been resolved with said product? That brand new model year car, that new curved TV with 4K technology, the newest IPhone that will be obsoleted tech the moment you buy it. The new Polaris Sling shot had a swing arm recall that’s again being recalled upon the recall that was previously recalled. Hell, Galaxy Note 7’s were blowing up in consumer’s hands and banned from flights! How’s that for a recall? The fact of the matter is that’s the world we live in. Fast paced industries looking to get the latest and greatest into the customer’s hands before the competitor has a chance. So of course we will be talking about the most recent recall from the Motor Company concerning the new Milwaukee Eight touring models. I always hate hearing “well that’s the way it is.” or “it’s simply the nature of the beast.” But again in a fast paced industry like Harley sometimes things don’t show their ugly little heads till they reach the real world no matter how many millions of miles went into R&D and testing said product. Sometimes it’s not about the product failing but how it was installed or is now affected. We saw some recalls last year in regards to the clutch master cylinder and some other minor inspections. Our latest Harley recall involves about 57,000 touring bikes including 2017 Electra Glide Ultra Classic, Police Electra Glide, Police Road King, Road King, Road King Special, Street Glide, Street Glide Special, Road Glide and Road Glide Special motorcycles built from July 2 through May 9. Harley has informed the public that a clamp on an engine oil cooler line may not have been installed correctly. The company said it has nine reports of oil lines coming off. The problem caused two crashes and one minor injury. This is something we never want to see in our line of work and that’s why Harley has come forward voluntarily to resolve the issue rather than wait it out like some companies will do. If you have one of these models you have most likely already received a notice from the mothership in Milwaukee. But if you still have a concern and want peace of mind come on into the dealership and our service department will research the VIN for you and make sure you are clear of the recall or any recall on your beloved bike. St Charles Harley-Davidson is always here for you no matter the need, want, or concern you may have on your bike! Thanks for stopping by and y’all enjoy the ride!

If you haven’t made it to one yet, don’t miss out. The first Thursday of every month from 6pm-9pm with a new theme at each one. This month will feature a first for our bike night and really looking forward to it. We will have the Circus Una Motorcycle Thrill Show.

This month I want to showcase a build that has been in the works since March and really touches my heart in so many ways. I had a very good client that I met at a previous dealership when I first started in the Motorcycle industry and became a great friend that was in a motorcycle accident late last year. He was told he would never be able to ride again. After months of rehab and telling himself that he will ride a motorcycle again he slowly got better. He came into the dealership multiple times and we talked about a few different bikes that he might be interested in starting over with. His wife called me and let me know that he would be getting a new bike and knows that even having a bike back in the garage will get his health even better. She said that she knows I will be patient and work on building him a bike that will make him forget about his previouos one and focus on this new machine. After a few months of dicussing which route would be best for him, we decided to go back to a Softail Fatboy which he had and was totaled. He wanted some resemblance to his old bike and had saved a few items that were salvageable to be used once again. This time though we went with more black then chrome and used the chrome to accent it all. Being a big Grateful Dead fan, like myself, we had to put that into the bike. Some of these, a Dead Head would know is what really catches your eye the closer you get. His gas tank was painted and airbrushed by Darren from Liquid Illusion Paint. On the right side of the tank in the middle you will see five roses that you would think are real if it wasn’t for the black and white shades. On the left side of the tank it has the Devil with dark red eyes, this represents one of his favorite Grateful Dead songs “Friend of the Devil”. Between the metal flake on the tank and the amazing Silver Leaf that seperates the flake from the air brush work this paint catches the eye. You will have to see this bike in person to see all the small Grateful Dead items throughout the bike.

Now lets move on and check some amazing eye candy; the wheels, rotors and pulley! These are a brand new wheel design made by Performance Machine and the first set to hit the streets of St. Louis. The platinum contrast cut Del Ray’s by Performance Machine! These wheels look like they are doing a hundred miles an hour parked in the parking lot! Once we decided on the paint and wheels everything just fell into place with chrome and black layout we had in mind. From the black Harley-Davidson front end with chrome headlight bucket to changing the trim ring to the Arlen Ness contrast black with white LED halo lights. The list goes on and on with all the modifications from front to back on this beauty. For the heart and soul of the motorcycle you will see that the contrast black and chrome really get the heart beat racing. That amazing heart beat comes from the 110” Tire Shredder kit that makes this bike not only eye catching as it goes by but if you blink it will be gone with the twist of the throttle. The Arlen Ness monster sucker air cleaner provides the air to the lungs that it needs to push the Vance & Hines 2 into 1 Big Radius exhaust and give it it’s deep rumble! Last but not least we wanted this bike to be as enjoyable to look at as it is to ride so we topped it off with a Progressive Mono tube front end shock kit and 422 Softail shocks for the rear! The list goes on and on with all that was done to this bike. Be sure to check it out when you see it at a bike night or on the streets of St. Louis. I would like to give a big thanks to Kyle Brooks our master technician who took the time and made sure this masterpiece was ready for the long strange trip ahead. Also a big thanks to my great eclient and friend who gave me the oppurtinity to design yet another dream bike of his. Looking forward to next month and the newest creation. Thanks again for taking the time to read this and please come into St. Charles Harley-Davidson and ask for me, Zach White or give me a call @ 636-946-6487 and also by email, zach@stcharlesharleydavidson.com to set a consultation time with me!
