LETTER FROM THE PUBLISHER The weatherman says the rain we been having is going to stop and we can get down some serious events and riding. Like all of you we are excited about all the various events and rides that we have to pick from. There are lots of events to choose from each weekend and we are trying to get in as many as we can and I hope all of you are doing the same. I want to keep reminding everyone about our 7th Annual GGG event being held on Saturday, July 11 at the Old Sunset Ford lot from 10am to 6pm. This is one of the area’s largest bike and car show along with about 35 great Vendors. There will be live music, great food and cold beer and soft drinks. This event is put together to raise money for our friends at Bikers Against Child Abuse. We are hoping to see all of you out that day to help support this great cause and to have a fun day. If you would like to have your car and bike in the show please email us to pre-register and also there will be ride/drive in registration that morning from 7am to 9:30am. Vendors please email me to reserve your space because those spaces are almost sold out. Full Throttle had the opportunity to catch with an avid motorcyclist this month. Unique is a word that comes to mind when I see Mr. Ben Schmitt. To refer to him as a motorcycle rider would be like referring to Babe Ruth as a baseball player. Lets start off with the motorcycle collection. There is a virtual plethora of motorcycles 2011 Road King, 1972 Shovelhead, and 1964 Panhead. From here is the collection of road race bikes, 1982 BMW R65, 1981 BMWR65, Suzuki SV 650, and the Yamahas RD400 and SR500. Not only does this guyroad race but he is actually a National Champion, winning his championship the very first year he started racingwith AHRMA, The American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association. Ben travels the Ahrma circuit with venues ranging from Willow Springs, Ca., Salt Lake City, Utah, and even the high banks at Daytona International Speedway. Then there is the dirt bike racing with MOVMX. Again participating , winning races, and championships and being a supporter of the sport. Particpating is not enough he is also very active with AHRMA activities as a national sponsor of the 200gp class, a division that he does not even participate in. Its one of the neat things about this guy who got his start with motorcycling at the tender age of 8. Like most of us it was on the infamous red Briggs and Stranton minibike. It was a passion that would never leave him. Even
while attending Illinois College motorcycles was still a preoccupation. After graduating it was on to law school. I actually don’t think of him as a lawyer, I think of him as a biker who practices law to support his motorcycling addiction. You see Ben is the principal in SchmittMulhern, LLC, practicing law in Kansas City Missouri. Their firm is a personal injury law firm, but he is always active in motorcycling. Last month I had the pleasure of hearing him give a very engaging, informative, and entertaining seminar at Worth Harley Davidson. “ Talking to fellow bikers and educating them in regards to their rights, especially when it comes to insurance is one of my favorite topics. I get to combine my love for motorcycles and to help fellow riders at the same time, it’s very rewarding, said Ben.” I have to admit it was one of the more lively hog meetings I have seen in quite awhile. Ben is also sponsoring the Missouri Hog Rally this year. “ I am really looking forward to spending some time with my fellow Harley brothers and sisters.” Ben and his family reside in Kansas City, he has 2 boys and a girl. Local bike clubs are also a favorite with Ben you can always catch him at one of the HOAME meetings, a vintage motorcycle club. If you want to discuss motorcycles, vintage, or modern, cruising or racing, he is your guy. Oh, and just in case you need an attorney he is definitely your guy..

Tis the season for car shows and cruising!! The weather has finally broke and everyone is excited to chillax on the weekends watching the trails of cars come rolling in. The following are general unspoken rules of behavioral conduct to be had at car events and gatherings. No one wants to babysit a thoughtless idiot. So please do your best to pass on how to act accordingly so you don’t get your ass beat down in
DON’T TOUCH/DON’T LEAN Your dangling jewelry, buttons, and zippers, (and women) long fake nails will all jack up the paint. If I caught someone disrespecting my vehicle leaning over it with their binging accessories and clothing rattling down the side of it, I’d scrape their face into the concrete. If you’re trying to look at the interior and the door is shut, be mindful and just stretch your neck like a giraffe from a far to take a gander within. Rubber neck it like you do inside your own vehicle being nosy when you see an accident on the side of the road. Same goes for checking out under the hood. This also applies as far as if you are a lil cutie wanting your pic taken with the vehicle. Don’t lounge on it! If you have heels on, don’t even pose with your foot on a bumper or side rail all dinging the chrome up. Some fenders are even aluminum fabricated. You trying to look cool sprawled on someone’s car like this will push that part in, and probably scrape it along with denting. How about just stand there and look pretty. That’s all you need to do. Just like you wouldn’t want another man to touch your wife; don’t touch his car. Eye Google it from a close distance all you want. If you are ballsie enough not to abide to this rule of thumb, and a car owner hears that metal “TINK” sound from you clanking on their ride, you BETTER RUN to the next county line! NO PETS This is specifically referencing dogs. It’s not likely a person will be walking their pet turtle on a leash or come riding in on a lion. If the car owner doesn’t approve of human contact with their ride, they certainly don’t want Fido all up on it. Dogs can jump on vehicles if excited. Just like with the jewelry and clothing trinkets - there goes the paint job! You may think you have full control over your pooch, but something catches its attention, and with a simple head turn their collar scrapes down the side. There’s no such thing as a tiny touch up like when a female chips her nail polish. One door ding turns into the entire door being repainted to match the rest of that $5000 custom paint job. The owner will not only take it out on your ass, but you will be buying that new paint and possibly body work. KEEP YOUR KIDS OUT OF THE CAR Ok. So we established no lounging on the car. No loafing INSIDE the car either. I’ve seen women (Never men, probably because they mostly know better. Sorry true story) pick up their kids and place them in the driver’s seat so the tike can play Hot Rod McGee and jerk the steering wheel around like they’re racing. All the while the kid decides to play with the stick shift, and guess what happens next? You got it!! The gear slips out of park and the kid thinks he’s down the track as the car smacks into one by it. No bueno…. Junior can’t even see over the steering column. What are you doing? Buy the kiddo a Big Wheel and paint some flames on if he wants to have the experience. Not to mention your kid probably has slobber and snot running down their face that’s going to stain the seats; that is if they don’t tear the material first from you so rudely allowing them to scamper around the interior. Peanut butter and Lord knows what else falling out of their mouth landing on the dash as they smear it in trying to keep balance when acting a fool jumping up and down. Someone else’s car isn’t a bouncy house at a carnival, and it certainly isn’t a live version of a Pole Position video game. (Oh yeah…. I got Ol’ Skewl on you with the Atari reference there.) Keep your kids out of others cars or

RESPECT WITH CAMERAS Don’t be a jackass and photo bomb peoples pictures. If a person wanted a picture of you specifically, it would be paparazzi from TMZ or the Enquirer stalking you out; not Joe Schmo at the car show who wants to upload pics of his dream car onto social media. He’s there for car pics; not to capture you drooling all over yourself about your personal dream car. Picture takers – don’t think you’re off the hook. You are not excluded from no touching of the cars rule. Pop on that zoom lens if you have to. Don’t be that person bossing people around to get out of the way; ask kindly. Be respectful to other photographers. You’re in the public so it’s a free for all. Granted you are out in the public, it is respectful to ask parent’s permission to photograph their children with cars so you don’t look like a pedophile creeper. BURNOUTS We aaaaall love us some burnouts. I know I do!! It is one thing to get on it to show everyone how much torque you got in your car. It’s another to give everyone emphysema like they’ve been working in the coal mines their whole life on account of your tailpipe and peeled rubber fumigating the vicinity. Also, you might piss off the club or facility operator of who is hosting the show and end up not allowing a show to be held at all. Then there’s irresponsibility laying on it around other cars. Your best bet is to wait until you’re about out of the parking lot away from everything to do it at your own risk where others won’t be affected. BRINGING CARS THAT DON’T BELONG Be aware if a car show you plan on attending is time period specific. Meaning; don’t enter your fresh off the dealership showroom sports car to a classic, antique, or vintage car event. You’ll notice most shows give out trophies at the end for categories of class and year period. A general rule of thumb to be considered a classic is 25 yrs old, but not more than 40 yrs old; and “in theory” not modified or altered. I’m here to tell you though; you’ll get the crazy eyebrow raise if you roll up in a car show with something even from the 80’ or 90’s because it looks too new. Antique is 40 years back and as original to manufacture specs as possible. So all classics are antique, but not all antiques are classics. Vintage is beyond the year limit of an antique, but these two overlap as well. General cut off is 1930. Use common sense. If when filling out an entry slip you find out your car doesn’t meet the expectations of what’s there to be shown, please be courteous to the folks who could use the available space, and instead go enjoy the show as a spectator that day. DON’T RUN YOUR MOUTH We all have different tastes as to what trips our trigger with cars. Just because you personally wouldn’t buy or build it, doesn’t mean you need to be a dick and disrespect someone else’s quality time and hard effort they put into creating their baby. Another thing is maybe this vehicle is still in the works and what you see is all they could afford at the moment to get it half decent in appearance to still be able to drive and enjoy until they save for what they really want done. For all you know, the parts are on order, being welded, or sand blasted as we speak and will be put on next weekend. If you feel something they’ve done is unsafe and could cause them and others harm on the road, by all means bring it to their attention – POLITELY. Don’t trash-talk them. They very well may not know they did something haphazardly where parts might fly off down the road while driving. Not everyone is an expert. Be a friend and teach others a better way to get their car to where everyone can appreciate it. After all, part of the reasons we go to car shows and cruises is to gain new perspective and generate ideas of how we can improve our own rides by hanging out with like minds that have a mutual passion and adoration for cars.

The 2014 Ride for Wishes event benefiting Make a Wish foundation of Missouri was a huge success raising $26,680 that supported quite a few wishes for children with life threatening medical conditions. Scott Jacobs.........
Looking back at the beginning of your career, have you ever asked yourself if you made the right decision? World Renowned Photo-Realist artist, Scott Jacobs can without a doubt, say YES! But, it was not an easy road to get to where he is today. Scott Jacobs was born in 1958 in Westfield, New Jersey to Dallas and Carolyn Jacobs. Scott’s childhood was not easy. He grew up in an abusive, alcoholic home where it was more acceptable to hit your children as a form of punishment and his father lived up to those standards. Scott was also made to endure the verbal abuse his parents had towards each other. His father, more so than his mother, was more discouraging than encouraging with whatever Scott did.

“You are not going to amount to anything!” He would say. Instead of this causing him to curl up into a ball in the corner, this fueled him to prove them wrong.
Scott began to surround himself with art. At the age of seventeen he began working for a woman who owned an art gallery. This woman married a wealthy man who did not want her to work anymore, so she decided to sell her gallery; but alas, no one was interest. So Scott, more in gest, mentioned to her that he had managed to save $3,750 if she wanted to sell the gallery to him. She took this information back to her husband and they decided to accept Scott’s offer. Using all his money to buy the gallery left him no means to secure any facility to sell the art, so he actually had to close the gallery doors. He had all these paintings, frames, moldings, etc. and no place to put them. Still living at home, he went to his parents and asked if he could use their garage to store his newly acquired inventory until he could come up with the money to secure a location for his gallery.
Now, Scott was no stranger to teenage boy adolescent behaviors. There was a profound moment in Scotts’ life when he cut that Grand Opening ribbon of his first gallery and his grandfather was the first to walk through and purchase a piece of art. He knew then, he was going to make it.
Upon completion, he puts a coat of varnish to seal in the color so the integrity of the painting is preserved. But with all the time and effort Scott put into his own paintings, he wasn’t sure how well his art was going to be perceived, so he started showing his work under a pseudonym, “Escoteté”, because he wanted everyone’s honest opinion. He received the most positive feedback on his realistic renditions, so he started painting portraits like Malcom Forbes, Madonna and Joan Lunden to name a few.
Through the years of owning the art galleries left Scott no time to do what he truly loves to do; paint. He met and married his wife, Sharon, in the early 80’s and for Christmas in 1988 she bought him a set of paints because she had heard that he loved to paint and she thought he needed a hobby. Some of you may know he has a beautiful wife of 30 years, two lovely daughters; Olivia & Alexa, But who is Scott Jacobs outside of the studio?
Through the course of that week, they met some of the most amazing people; people who gave of themselves selflessly. It opened his eyes and mind to so much. Doing the show made a huge impact on Scott’s life as well as his daughter’s. He realized just how secluded he was and how sheltered his daughter was. He met a young man, Chris, that reminded him of himself at that age. Scott saw the struggles Chris was facing and how much he wanted to break free from the turmoil. Seeing this made it impossible for Scott to hold all of his emotions in like he had done so well his whole life.

While most builds have been put on hold a few Harley dealers in the St. Louis area and across the United States are just gearing up for an epic battle!! The Battle of the Kings has begun!! Harley’s Street Build-off! Some of you may remember my article introducing the 500 and 750 Street models last year and to be honest most would like to simply forget the Street all together. The truth is they have been received with little to no excitement and enthusiasm in our market. That’s why Harley has set up the Battle of the Kings contest to encourage dealers to design and build their own take on the 500 and 750 models. The idea is to get the next
