Got to love it.. Riding season is in full swing and May is jam packed with lots of events to hit. I won’t get them all listed her in the publisher notes but you can check out our Crusin’ Calendar and watch our Facebook to stay on top of all the great things happening this season. Have start out with the great bike nights happening in the Lou. Every Weds night we have “Historic Route 66 Bike Night” at Bobby’s Place in Valley Park. Weekly on Thursday night we have Geo Wings Bike Night on the Illinois side. The first Thursday of each month is the Big St Charles Motorsport & St Charles Harley Bike Night. The second Thursday of each month is Mungenast Motorsports and Indian Bikers on the Boulevard Bike Night. The Third Thursday of each month is One Eyed Willie’s Bike Night. Every Friday is the Rick’s Roadhouse and Salty Myke’s Bike night. These are the best bike nights in the Lou and you can certainly skip the rest because they don’t measure up. Hope to see you all these events. There are too many May events to mention them all so check our Facebook and Crusin’ Calendar but here are a few great ones. Mid America Harley is celebrating their one year anniversary with a huge party on May 20th. West Alton Bar and Grill (one of my favorites by the way) is having their one year anniversary bash on May 27th. Ozark Harley Davidson will be having a Customer Appreciation Party on May 6th. Our friend Quincy at the Hawg Pit BBQ has several things going on in May. The 1st Annual Jeep Show on May 13th. Their annual All Car, car show on the 20th and their All Bike, bike show on the 21st. As I mentioned these are just some of the great events happening in May. I like to keep mentioning each month to get your reservations early for the Lake of the Ozark Bikefest starting on September 13th-17th. This year certainly promises to be the Biggest and most fun filled Bikefest to date. Full Throttle Magazine is proud to be the Exclusive Motorcycle Magazine sponsor again this year for Bikefest. I hope to see everyone there this year. As always my friends ride safe and see you on the road with Full Throttle Magazine. Bob

Parts Of A Perfect Ride The arrival of riding season is always the best time of year! Don’t let it get ruined for you because your bike isn’t ready. Having the right parts installed can make all the difference when helping keep you safe and make the most out of your ride. Do you have all the lighting you need to see and be seen? There are a vast selection of lighting options offered by Harley-Davidson both for function and looks. The most crucial are your headlight, turning lamps and rear lighting. You need these to ride safely and in accordance with the law. The brighter and clearer your lights, the safer and more enjoyable your ride will be. For example, the Daymaker headlamp has an unparalleled brightness that enables you to see much more of the road ahead. For those of us riding in the Midwest, we know just how valuable that can be with all the deer (and unfortunately, other drivers) that jump in the way on those winding back roads! There are also collections of stylish bike lighting options for eye-catching results, such as the H-D Spectra Glo lights. The options for these customizable lights are almost endless. As bikers, we all know that every little bit counts when it comes to being noticed. Have you checked your battery? Make sure that it is up to the task. Check your owner’s manual to see what the recommended voltage is for your specific bike, and make sure that you maintain that range. Harley-Davidson recommends around 12.5 volts. Battery charging harnesses are a wonderful investment into the life of your battery and help you keep track of when your battery needs tending. If you aren’t planning on riding for a few weeks or more, make sure to hook your battery up to the tender or charger. If you are transporting your bike by trailer, check your manual to see if your bike has a transport mode as this will help save your battery. There is nothing more inconvenient than getting to your destination and being unable to ride. The windblown look isn’t meant for every day. When it comes to windshields, a good fit really depends on you and your riding style, as well as your specific bike. If you ride a touring bike with a fairing, you can get different heights of windshields and screens. If your bike is a cruiser (without a fairing), then there are a variety of detachable options. Having wind splitters, shields and screens outfitted can help the ride be more comfortable for both rider and passenger. Finding the correct option for you and your bike is a breeze, all you have to do is come into the shop and one of our experts will help you pick the right height and style! Are your tires ready to roll? Make sure that your tires are aired up and have a good tread. Always check your owner’s manual to see what the recommended tire pressure is for your specific bike. Having too little or too much pressure not only changes your ride drastically and wears down your tires, it can also compromise your safety. If you do not have a tire gauge/ tread depth indicator with you to keep your tires balanced, stop by your local shop and pick one up to keep on your bike. Don’t skimp on your tires, either, if possible. While saving the money on a cheaper tire helps in the short term for your pocketbook, sometimes the saying rings true that you get what you pay for. Always take the opportunity to ensure that you are getting the best tires for your bike. If the tires are well-suited to your machine, they will provide a better ride and likely will have a longer life (which also benefits your pocketbook). These are just a few of the items you want to make sure are up to date and ready for riding season. If you aren’t sure what your bike needs for this season or want to find a few more ideas for ways to improve your bike, stop by Doc’s and we will be more than happy to get you road ready and having the best ride of your life! When you are getting the most out of your bike, you get the most out of your ride. Have an amazing season- ride your best bike yet!

The Legendary........Gene Simmons

From the short amount of time I was able to speak with Gene, I

immediately could tell he is not the kind of individual that beats around the bush; he’s a straight shooter and tells it like it is. I also could tell that he is very passionate about all his endeavors; from his music, his film company to his restaurants. He also shows a lot of compassion for our Armed Forces. For that was one of the reasons he was in town. He was presenting a check for five thousand dollars to a Folds of Honor recipient. Gene is one of the co-founders of the new restaurant in Chesterfield Missouri called Rock & Brews. Along with his partners Paul Stanley from KISS, Dave Furano, Dell Furano and Michael Zislis, they brought life to the fast growing restaurant chain. It was there, that I was given the opportunity to speak with Gene and ask him a few questions. Full Throttle: The word “KISS” being an acronym is a fallacy; that it is just the name of the band and It does not stand for anything. Gene: It is just a name. I haven’t heard that questions in thirty years. Full Throttle: Why did you go from all the costumes and makeup, to no costumes and makeup, back with the original group touring with the costumes and makeup? Gene: Everyday that goes by, you get up and make decisions based on the lay of the land. Nothing is convenience, you figure out what you are doing and look around. Why do you not step out when there is rain and stormy weather? Because there is rain and stormy weather. Why do you step out when it’s sunny and calm? Because it’s sunny and calm. Full Throttle: What kind of music do you see yourself recording going forward? Gene: Not much new music because the record companies have been destroyed by the fans who download and file share. So I have no incentive to go in there and work hard and have people take it away for free. So there is no incentive and that is very sad for all the new bands. It doesn’t effect me; I make a living. All the new bands that want a chance to earn a living and do it the right way will never get the chances I had. Full Throttle: If you don’t have a desire to make new music, would you still entertain the idea of collaborating with other artist? For instance, a chart topping Country artist. Gene: Well, I wrote a song with Bob Dylan several years ago. Yeah, I would be open to it. But when you’ve become the number one gold award winning group of all time, across all categories and when you have anything and everything that you’ve dreamed of; including restaurant chains, film companies etc. you don’t have enough time; there’s not enough

Page 20

www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

hours in the day. I would be happy to, but I don’t go looking for it. Full Throttle: I know Rock & Brews is a franchise. How much are you involved with the restaurants? Gene: It’s more than just a franchise, it’s a partnership. All of our partners are friends. We care about them, but we also don’t micromanage them. You want to make sure the people who live locally, who would send their kids to school locally, have a vested interest in having a restaurant. We can’t do it from Beverly Hills; we need partners who live in St. Louis. That’s why this restaurant is always full. That’s why all of our restaurants are always full. People love it. Full Throttle: Where do you see Rock & Brews Restaurant going in the next five to ten years? Gene: Well, it’s already going, we just broke ground on our first Rock & Brews Casino and Resort in Braman, Oklahoma. I wish I had more time to ask so many more questions. It’s so hard to find a good stopping and starting point when giving the opportunity to interview one of the most iconic individual on the planet. From my perspective, this was certainly one of those “Drop the Mic” moments. Indeed, a true honor sitting across the table from Gene Simmons the front man for the legendary rock band KISS.

“LIGHT IT UP”

retty badass, right? That is just a few of the 1,400 and counting things Bill Sankus, owner of The Neon Cycle, has lit up in his career. Notice how I said things above. That’s because he doesn’t just light up motorcycles. He’s lit up cars, trucks, and lots more. Bill even lights up wheelchairs for children with disabilities. He does that out of the goodness of his heart, I might add. It really “lights up” those children’s lives. Bill has a wiring and electrical background, having worked for southwestern bell for 30 years installing phone lines. No wonder he is so good at this. After retiring from Southwestern Bell, he bought The Neon Cycle from a friend that was no longer able to run the business. Bill then took The Neon Cycle to a whole new level after purchasing a mobile led installation van. He could now go pretty much anywhere to install the led light kits as long as you have enough room for him to park his van and have a little space for him to work. That’s what really makes The Neon Cycle so amazing, and sets him above all the “other guys”. He will come to your home, work or wherever you want him to go and professionally install the led lights. Key word there is “professionally”. Bill takes pride in all his work. Being a perfectionist, he will not accept mediocre work. Bill strategically places every led light and all the wiring so they are very well hidden. You most likely won’t even know they are there. All his work is backed with a lifetime warranty, yes you read it right, LIFETIME warranty. All led wiring services include a lifetime warranty on all led lights to the original purchaser (you can even transfer your warranty to a new party for a small $100.00 inspection fee). A one year warranty on all CPU’s and remotes, and a 90-day warranty on all installations of any product. Yea I know, pretty badass, right? So, if you’re thinking about lighting up your motorcycle, car, truck, etc. and you want a professional, top of the line led kit and professional installation, all backed with a lifetime warranty. There should be no question in your mind of who to call. Bill Sankus and The Neon Cycle is the only call you need to make. 618-580-9201

If you’re a regular visitor to Deadwood,

Written By Olivia Jacobs-Chrisman

South Dakota you’ll want to take a stroll up Main Street to the newest cultural addition, Jacobs Gallery. After more than a full year of renovation, remodeling and restoring, the historical Goldberg building now hosts and displays the fine art collections of Scott Jacobs and others. Branded apparel, leather goods, and other American made products are available for sale in addition to limited edition artwork. The Jacobs Family took great pains to make this building a modern historic landmark by exposing the original walls of ancient brick, as well as the original wood floor and ceiling. A handful of 1860’s plus artifacts were discovered in the process. These historical artifacts are on display in the Gallery. Much of the original wood and fixtures from the grocery store have been reused and re-purposed, including the original meat locker dating back to 1893. All of these special touches create a distinctly unique visual experience. Scott Jacobs, who founded the official Harley-Davidson “Fine Art Program” in 1993, paints photo realistic masterpieces of motorcycles dating as far back as the early 1900’s. Besides motorcycles, Scott paints women in intricate Italian styled masks, and iconic motor vehicles such as Shelby Mustangs, among others. A variety of fine art wine and floral prints are also on display adding color and balance to the Jacobs art experience. Scott’s talent for detail is unequaled in the modern art world, which has created a rabid demand for his work. No less than eight completely restored Harley-Davidson motorcycles grace the walls and floor of the Gallery. Original paintings and artwork keep visitors’ attention as they stroll through the spacious display area. Upstairs is the artist’s personal studio, where new fine art creations are born. When visiting the Gallery expect to see at least one member of the Jacobs Family in attendance. Sharon Jacobs, Scott’s wife and partner has been his constant companion since opening their first Gallery in Westfield, New Jersey. Sharon is in the store virtually every day offering assistance to customers and support to the Gallery team members. Sharon is also the Jacobs Gallery CFO. Chief Executive Officer and Manager of the Jacobs Gallery is Olivia Jacobs-Chrisman, Scott and Sharon’s oldest daughter, who manages to find time to hob knob with customers and provide them with information about the paintings, motorcycles and other gallery products. Keeping the family tradition is Scott’s nephew, Todd Jacobs, who functions as Scott’s right hand man in the creation of new paintings. Scott and Sharon’s youngest daughter, Alexa is artistic too. She specializes in high-style photo-realistic paintings of gracious and beautiful women. Jacobs Gallery proudly hangs original artwork by Alexa Jacobs, Todd Jacobs, Danial James, and Lovell Photography. The variety of artwork is guaranteed to be the highlight of your Deadwood visit. Jacobs Gallery is open year-round; weather permitting. Make Jacobs Gallery your ultimate Deadwood destination, you won’t be disappointed! www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

strength, body & mind “Today I will do what you won’t, so tomorrow I can do what you can’t.” That’s the way Mick Kennedy, owner of Mick’s Gym in Fenton, MO, has lived the majority of his life. When Mick was 14 years old he got a weight set for Christmas. He hasn’t stopped lifting weights since. Mick knew then that he loved working out, staying fit and continually gaining strength and mobility. “Strength and mobility go hand in hand with quality of life.”, Mick told me during our interview. His explanation was so easy to understand. “You couldn’t even get up out of bed in the morning without strength.” Mick explained, “You couldn’t go on those nice rides we all love, on our motorcycles, without strength and mobility.”

Mick is passionate about making people strong! He loves to see his clients accomplish their goals and not only look and feel their best, but to be their best. Mick has a very effective science based strength and conditioning system to optimize your health and progressively move you from beginner, to novice, to intermediate, to advanced. NO NEED TO WORRY.....IT’ Welcome back Full Throttle readers and riders! Spring is in the

air! The birds are chirping, the flowers and trees are budding, that stupid giraffe finally had her baby and best of all the kick stands are up and our knees are in the breeze! It’s riding season folks! Well last month we took a break from the four month long journey that has been my bike build and I’m happy to report that we are back on track to putting some rubber to the road! Last I left y’all I was in limbo waiting for some major components to complete the gig! On the list of important items was the handlebars, without them I was literally a sitting duck. I had a very different and specific bar in mind so I reached out to a friend and mentor in the industry, my boy Chuck with LA Choppers! I laid my ideas on him and he got right to fabbing a set of one off custom bars for me. I was really crushing on the Dyna movement and the T-bar and tall riser look, so why not apply that ideology to the King? These bars give a flat out flat track look and are surprisingly comfortable. I had envisioned a bar that only carried what it needed, the hydraulic clutch and brake master cylinders are the only components on the bar. There are zero switches for anything on the bars themselves.

So where did we place the necessary buttons and switches such as the start button, on off switch, hi/lo beam? Well the Road King comes standard equipped with two toggle switches on the nacelle itself. One normally controls the passing lamps which we have ditched to clean up the look and the other is a “hot switch” that can be used for pretty much any accessory and isn’t hooked up to anything from the factory. We converted one of these toggles to the on/off switch and the other to the hi/lo beam. With some simple drilling we installed some small push buttons from the guys at Lowbrow for the start button and we went as far as to keep the grandpa switch. That’s right this aggressive beast got to keep the cruise control! We wired the cruise to be hot all the times so at the simple push of a button my speed is locked in for those long hauls. As I mentioned I am running a StreetGlide tank and I have ditched the speedo and more importantly the fuel gauge. So how would I know when to hit the gas station? Well we tapped into the wiring harness of the fuel sending unit and ran a small LED light off of the wire that would light up on the speedo to indicate low fuel. A small hole was drilled and the light mounted. Problem solved! I opted to run a 21” wheel and really liked the look of the 2017 Breakout wheel so we coated it in prismatic gold and slapped it on there. I had ordered the Phoenix Lug-Drive rotor from Lyndall Brakes

that came close to matching my wheel but after few social media post the folks at Lyndall contacted me about producing a rotor that would perfectly match my wheel! They even offered to swap out the center keeper for me at no additional cost! This rotor is insane! The entire component weighs only 1.6 pounds. The all black aluminum-ceramic friction ring offers ultimate stopping power and mounts to a beautiful 6061 T-6 black anodized aluminum carrier that offers a fully floating set up that appears almost seamless! I am in love with this rotor and this company. I wanted to keep the ass end on this girl as timeless as J-Lo’s bodacious booty! I had Darren with Liquid Illusions fill in the stock fender and now it’s smooth as butta with no cut outs. I really didn’t want to mount any lights or a license plate holder to the fender so I had to do some searching! I found a great product from Native Bagger Customs that allows you to mount the license plate under your saddlebag. It attaches to the saddlebag rail and comes equipped with an LED light. It helped balance out the back end as I was running a 2-1 pipe from Cobra. As for some brake lights I used some LED “Shooter” tail lights from Alloy Art. This great light recesses into the saddlebags almost 2 inches giving a sexy “frenched in” look! I loved the look of these lights but after being rear ended this summer I took the rear brake lights a step further. I took the idea from the XKGlow set up and integrated two 12” and one 6” red LED strips to the underside of the bags to give the extra added glow when the brakes are applied. After four months of building this bike she just has way too much to keep gushing about. From the amazing Legend Suspension set up, to the high comp 103 motor that sounds so amazing through the Cobra 2-1 RPT pipe. From the Harley LED Day maker head light that hides behind the Performance Machine headlamp grill to the custom one off bar, this bike is just plain sexy. Next time ya see me at one of the hot spots in town come on over and check it out. Yeah its no 30” stretched out longtailed show bagger but as you pick it apart the ingenuity that went into this purpose built machine you will find the devil in the details. I’m very proud and thankful for our team here at the shop and our Harley-Davidson service department proves once again that nothing is impossible. Bravo to my tech Kyle and the rest of the techs that put in work and input on this build. Hope ya’ll enjoyed joining me on this personal build journey that is Hardly Dangerous. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the ride! THIS JUST IN!! Had the opportunity to put some break in miles on “Hardly Dangerous” Easter Weekend and I’m happy to report she runs, rides and looks like a dream! 150 miles logged and many more to come! www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

CRUSHING 23

How’s it going Full Throttle readers, Zach White here to give you the latest

and greatest info from St. Charles Harley-Davidson. Hope you enjoy this article and looking forward to many more! The kick off to bike night was a hit and people came from all over. This months bike night will be the first Thursday unless weather makes us reschedule for the following Thursday. We will have FMX freestyle, mini stunt bikes and a burn out competition. Now lets get on to the feature bike this Month. Another St. Charles HarleyDavidson build for you all. This is a 2017 crushed ice peal Street Glide Special. What pops out at you first is the amazing Performance Machine chrome forged Paramount front 23” wheel. It’s one of my favorite wheels they put out and looks great in chrome or contrast. We matched it with a 13” single rotor and 6 piston chrome Caliper. Wrapped around the front wheel is Paul Yaffe’s Bagger Nation talon fender, another favorite of mine. Tucked underneath the rear saddlebags you will see the matching 18” rear wheel. To complete the front end of this bike and let the wheel really catch your eye we installed Arlen Ness “Hot Legs” deep cut lower chrome forks and matching upper fork covers. To give it the right ride with the big wheel on front we installed a raked out triple tree and Progressive Suspension lower springs. Now moving to the middle of the bike we gave it some style and comfort by installing LA Choppers 12” black twin peak handlebars. These bars give you the natural feel and most comfortable in my eyes riding position available. We installed black hand levers to go with the black controls and the matching Streamliner grips to go with the foot controls. To go with the chrome front end you will see the outer fairing air vent chrome accent that replaces the standard black and goes to show that the small things really make the bike come together. This bike rides so good on the highway and in all the turns. Come on in and check out this bike and all the other builds on our showroom floor. Hope to see you all at bike night this month and all summer long. Let the nice weather and riding season begin. Thanks again for taking the time to read this and please come into St. Charles HarleyDavidson and ask for me, Zach White or give me a call @ 636-946-6487 and also by email, zach@stcharlesharleydavidson.com to set up a consultation with me! I’m here to make all your Harley-Davidson dreams come true.
