Well, by this point everyone is back from Sturgis and counting the days until next year. I know I am do to the fact that I missed it this year. I envied from a far; looking at all the Facebook posting of some of my favorite roads. The Black Hills has some of the most beautiful roads to travel and I never get tired of them. Alright, back down to earth. Last months topic was “Detachments.” Do you ride alone or do you always ride with one or more people. I spoke about how I choose to alway ride with my husband. Not because of a lack of confidence or my ability as a rider; I’ve been riding for 11 years now. It’s for safety reasons and my husband never wants anything bad to happen to be. There is a level of comfort riding with a group. Well, let me rephrase that. “A level of comfort riding with a group that knows how to RIDE in a group. At the beginning of my riding adventures, I was very fortunate, for one, to have an amazing and experience husband who taught me everything I know about riding and the saftey of group riding and two, having a great group of friend who also knew how to group ride. Not one of them hot rodded it past the other. Whoever took the lead always made sure to keep a safe and steady speed. We always road in a tight staggered formation preventing other vehicle from cutting into our lane. If we came to a stop light that changed before all of us made if through, the group that made it through the light would pull over and wait until the rest of the group caught up. Every rider kept their eyes on the person in front of them and the person behind them. If you ride in a group and you ended up going down, you have that immediate support around you. There have been times that I’ve had to take the lead in the group and I have to say, That’s a little uneasy for me because it gives me a sense of being alone. Theresa wrote in saying that she has been rid-

ing for about 10 years and her husband doesn’t ride. He would rather play golf or ride a bicycle. So she has really no choice but to ride alone. She will meet up with friends who are riders and ride with that group. She does admit that there is a sense of freedom riding by yourself. You can go where you want to go, stop when you want to stop; just enjoy the time alone. Cathy said that she is very much likc me. Her husband has been riding most of his life and she too started riding about 12 years ago. She does not ride without him. One thing that she did say is that she does not like riding in a large group. Too many bikes still gives her anixieties. It’s that fear of “what if the person in front of me goes down?” “I don’t know if I could stop fast enough and still keep control of my own bike.” If her and her husband were to go on a large group ride, she would hop on the back of his bike so she could relax and enjoy herself. OK, on to the next topic; MOTORCYCLE TRAVELING. What is the farthest distance you have traveled on your motorcycle. The farthest that I have traveled riding my own bike would have to be a toss up between Branson, MO and Kansas City, MO. Now, the farthest that I’ve gone riding on the back with my Husband would be as fast West a Colorado Springs, as far North as Milwalkee, WI, and as far South as Memphis, TN. Now that I have my cushy recliner bike, I’d like to tackle those distances on my own. Where have you traveled??? Tell me about it. LADIES, LET’S CHAT! editor@fullthrottle-magazine.com

“Let’s Talk Shop”
By Tami Aguilera
If you’re new to the auto scene, you may have wondered the difference in sizes between small blocks and big block engines. They’re both V8 after all. Like how back in the day a 427ci was considered a big block, and now is a small block. Confusing, I know. Well to start off, the aspect of being a big block or small block is exactly how it states – the BLOCK. For the most part, big block engines did have larger displacement measurements providing more torque and over all power, but really displacement doesn’t have anything to do with the term big or small block. It has to do with the difference between the middle of each bore. Ok, what is meant by displacement now? It’s the volume of an engine’s cylinders that indicate its size and power. So as in the example above of the 427ci, that number refers to the capacity of the cylinders for air and fuel to be compressed. Obviously, the more that can be held, the more that can be ignited for a bigger boom of power. Because that’s what we all strive for in an engine – POWER. So you have this small block and want to trick this sucker out with a bit more pizzazz of speed. What can you do this achieve this idea? We bore that bad boy out! Bore? No, it has nothing to do with pigs. Not that kind of boar. Boring out the block can be done by instead of using steel, go with a lighter and more durable metal like titanium. This is a bonus because it decreases the weight disadvantage where your car will be faster! Also, titanium is corrosion resistant and has the highest strength-to-density ratio of any metallic element. Now we’re talking. Big blocks typically have wider and larger bore spacing and taller deck height, yet alone just flat out larger overall dimensions than the small block. Go figure hence the name, right? While the big block may have larger displacement due to physical size of the block itself and wider powerband; the dead center of each bore on a small block may be bigger from added stroke instead of bore; and unfortunately then have less torque, but more horsepower and higher RPM’s to gain back speed and catch up with that big block who killed him off the line. Considering the size of the small block, only so much crank can fit into that small space when boring out the cylinders, so the stroke length is limited. A traditional small block has the limitation of 4 in. bore x 4 in. stroke for about 400ci. The big block is usually maxed out around 510ci and obviously accepts longer strokes and bigger bores. Keep in mind that over reaching the bore size can cause some serious damage if the cylinders are thinned out too much because it can cause serious heat issues. Increased pressure can hammer the pistons and rings to the point they break. A serious elevation in temperatures exceeding pressure can flat out burn a hole right through the top of a piston. So you can’t be too greedy when it comes to tinkering for speed. You don’t want to break your own stuff. On to this whole bore, stroke, and displacement configuration As with all of engineering, math is required for accuracy When it comes to cars and trying to work on them, you better not have slept in Geometry, Calculus, or Algebra class or you may have something not fit properly, or worse blow up and crash n’ burn on you if you screw it up; which equals a total waste of money and a whole lot of pissed off. So do you and your wallet a favor and learn the formulas. You seriously don’t want that stroker
Page 12 www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com
“You Can Never Get Too Bored” crank shoving those new forged pistons up in the valves, or maybe not even making their way up the cylinder. The engines bore size is the diameter measurement of its cylinders. The stroke is the distance the piston travels from top dead center to bottom dead center (and vice versa). These values are both measured by inches or millimeters. The displacement then equals the volume in all of the cylinders that’s swept by the pistons as they move. -- Otherwise the volume displaced by the piston from the bottom to the top of the stroke. Remember about torque a bit ago? That is why you want to change up the engines stroke value. Larger stroke increases the crankshaft’s leverage. Then BAM!! – MORE TORQUE. Throw the confetti and cut the cake. The speed celebration begins. Don’t forget the smaller stroke crankshafts though. They get better RPM’s and easier on the connecting rods. Depending on the rod lengths depends on what you feel is best for your overall initiative. I’m going to say it again and again; don’t go jacking your stuff up; MEASURE RIGHT. And here’s how you do it! I can’t just throw a formula at you and wish you luck with no numbers to plug in. That would be pretty damn rotten of me. Let’s start with measuring the stroke length to figure how far this piston travels when it’s cranked. This isn’t difficult. I’m a chick. If I can do it, surely you can manage. First you’re going to need what’s called a DIAL INDICATOR GUAGE for measuring the cylinder values. This tool is calibrated in .001 inch (.0025 centimeters) or .0001 inch (.00025 centimeter) as the units for the most accurate reading. Ok. Remove the cylinder head. Then position the piston so it’s pushed all the way down at bottom of the cylinder. (Just leave it like this for measuring the bore anyways). Next, mount the bridge on the top of cylinder. Insert the dial indicator into the hole enough to touch the piston, and tighten the locking screw of the measuring dial. Now you want the face of the dial indicator so the needle points at zero. You are going to turn the crankshaft with an Allen wrench. Keep an eye on the dial so you can count how many times the needle fully revolves by how many hundredths (or thousandths depending how you’re measuring) till it reaches top dead center. Write that down. Put it aside for a second. The bore measurement is similar. The measuring sled consists of three different guides and actuating plunger that adheres on to get a precise reading. So you take an outside micrometer set and measure across the gauge until zero aligns with the needle. Then insert the gauge into the bore, and kind of rock it back and forth till inserted evenly in the pipe. Your lowest reading is when the gauge is square on the bore and the needle reverses directions. Depending on if more or less than zero will be your indicator of an oversized or undersized bore. Go back and look how that number reads. Follow this chart for the bore. This way even if you plan on having it machined, you have a starting point.
www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com Page 13
Boring sizes are in increments of .010” (10 thousandths of an inch), or in increments of 00.25mm. This means you will be able to add additional width to the cylinder by .010 in. as the bore diameter measurement goes up by 00.25mm to fit a larger piston. 66.00mm is a stock piston. See how it’s not bored? Moving on up, for example 66.25mm is the size piston you want to fit a cylinder that’s been bored .010 inch. Up, up, and up is bigger piston to fit bigger hole. By the time you hit 67.00 you’re 1mm over stock, 68.00mm is 2mm over stock. Not rocket science. You can do this. 66.00 mm - .000 bored over 66.25 mm - .010 bored over 66.50 mm - .020 bored over 66.75 mm - .030 bored over 67.00 mm - .040 bored over 67.25 mm - .050 bored over 67.50 mm - .060 bored over 67.75 mm - .070 bored over 68.00 mm - .080 bored over Ok enough of that. You get the picture of how the math flows. Are you ready to plug all this crap together finally? Let’s see how big this engine is now with more freggin math. I knooow. Hate me now. Love me when your ride is all souped-up. I’m going to break this down in a variety of ways so hopefully it will click somehow. Cylinder Swept Volume = Area of the circular end of the Cylinder ---the BORE x Height of the Cylinder -- the STROKE. Cylinder Volume = Pi (Bore / 2) 2 x Stroke Two ways of looking at this. Either -- Pi x (Radius Squared / 2) x Height –or-- (Pi/4) Radius Squared x Height Remember the term “pi” in school? Pi is 3.1416 in measurement. You will always get the ratio number Pi when you divide the circumference of a circle by its diameter, regardless the size of the circle. So just keep note of that for future reference. Area of a circle, which is our cylinder, = pi x (the radius / 2) 2. The radius is the bore. In case you forgot, the 2 means squared. I know, too much math? Let’s shorten it up since the area of the bore is related to its diameter and make it (pi/4) x Radius Squared. We’ll do 3.1416/4 = .7854 Area of Bore = .7854 x (diameter) 2 Engine Displacement = (Area of Bore x Stroke) x Number of Cylinders Time for a quick example because I’m sure your head is spinning. I know mine is. We’ll use a Chrysler Hemi 426 with a standard bore of 4.25 in. and standard stroke of 3.75 in. .7854 x (4.25)2 = .7854 x 18.0625 = 14.1863 (14.1863 x 3.75) x 8 = 425.59 = 426 cubic inches Now say you want to bore your 426 engine over by 0.060 inches. To get your new engine size, just add that to the original bore of 4.25 and replace that number to square. [4.25 in. + 0.060 in = 4.31 in. Bore] .7854 x (4.31)2 = .7854 x 18.5761 = 14.5896 (14.5896 x 3.75) x 8 = 437.69 = 438 cubic inches Oh hell. We’re still using the new bore measurement, but let’s go balls deep and throw in a 5/8 stroker crank on top of the boring. 5/8 in is same as 0.625 inches. Add that to the stroke. [3.75 in. + 0.625 in. = 4.375 in. Stroke] .7854 x (4.31)2 = .7854 x 18.5761 = 14.5896 (14.5896 x 4.375) x 8 = 510.64 = 510 cubic inches See how fun math can be when it comes to HOT RODDING up your stuff!!?? Who knew, right? Now go build some something fast enough to out run the cops. Enjoy yourselves.

Jilly’s, A Great Place to
Have you always wanted to find that “one” local spot where you can go and experience everything from fine dining to having a few beers and shooting a game of pool? JILLY’S CAFÉ & STEAKHOUSE is all that and more.
Named after their daughter Jillian, it all began eight years ago when Joe and Dana Gisi decided to come together and open a restaurant that would offer a multitude of dining experiences. From a very early age, Joe found a love for cooking. Cooking alongside his grandmother, he came to realize this is what he wanted to do with is life. Through the course of his long career, he has studied under several French influenced chefs. Joe became an executive chef and worked at places like Café Rene’, Cherry Hills Country Club, The Cheshire Inn and all of the Harry’s Restaurants. This is not just a job to Joe, it is his passion. He now runs all the daily kitchen operations as the owner and executive chef. Now, Dana is a true business woman and runs all the daily front of the house operations. Not only does she run all the business operations, she also shares her own love of the kitchen. Dana is the “Baker”. Her desserts are so well liked that she recently won three baking contests in the Jefferson County Fair. On top of her baking skills, Dana is a certified Master Gardener. What you may not know about Jilly’s is that most of the vegetable, herb and fruit that goes into their salads, soups, sides and sauces are organically grown in Dana’s gardens. And what they don’t grow, they purchase locally. There are no additives or preservative in any of their dishes. Everything is made fresh from scratch daily. All of their meats are brought in from local farmers and hand cut to order to ensure freshness. All of their desserts are made from scratch by Dana. No expense is spared when it comes to the freshness and quality of food served every day. Jilly’s offers five styles of dining. If you are looking to have a nice quite dining experience, you can enjoy their upscale dining room that offers leather booths and table seating some of which offer privacy curtains and dim lighting to set the mood. Off the dining room there is a parlor/banquet room that can be rented out for everything from business meetings to private parties. Holding up to 70 people, you are going to receive the best possible in-house catering service. It even has a projection screen that can be utilized from business meetings to fun family slideshows.
If you are feeling a bit more casual, just come in a belly up to the bar/lounge area. Their large lounge is a great place to enjoy a few cocktails, appetizers or even a full meal. There are large flat screen TV’s all along the perimeter so you won’t miss any of your favorite sports games. Speaking of sports; for all you Mizzou fans, Jilly’s is now offering the SEC Network (Southeast Conference Network) from Direct TV. They will be able to air every Mizzou game and the Big Twelve games once football season starts. This is the best place to go to soak up the sports like atmosphere. You may want venture from the bar area to the large game room. It doesn’t matter what age you are, you can’t help but to enjoy yourself in this room. Dine for Any Occasion
There is plenty of table seating so you can always enjoy a great meal and the family friendly atmosphere. Last but not least, there is the newly expanded patio; when the weather is beautiful and you feel like soaking up the sun and relax outdoors. Or, when the days get a little cooler you can cozy up to the fire pit that sits under the gazebo. To add to the atmosphere, there is live music every Friday night for their Party of the Patio. What’s even greater is, no matter where you sit; the dining room, banquet room, the lounge, the game room or the patio, you will receive the same great tasting menu and the same great customer service. Joe and Dana are always traveling to Chicago or to different food shows to keep up with the latest food techniques and trends. They are always striving to keep your taste buds jumping up asking for more. If you have any food allergies, let your server know and they will customize your meal around your needs. A must try, is their JoJo Chicago style stuff crust pizza. All their pizzas are made from scratch all the way down to the crust. The baking process can take up to 40 minutes, but believe me, it’s worth the wait. The great tasting food Jilly’s offer does not stop at their doors. They offer off premise catering. There’s no function to big or too small. They do everything from box lunch delivery to custom theme party planning with on-site serving and bartending. Their staff will do everything needed to ensure your event is a success. For all you biker enthusiast, this is very much of a biker friendly establishment. They will help host poker runs and biking events and if you ride up on your motorcycles and sit in the lounge area, you can enjoy Happy Hour prices all day every day. Who wouldn’t want to take advantage of that? They also recently branched out. There is Jilly’s Two located just right inside the Northwest Jefferson Country Public Library located at Hwy 30 and PP. They serve foods like soup and sandwiches. It’s open Monday-Thursday. One thing that Jilly’s takes pride in is their customer service. Their loyal staff is there to make sure you have an excellent experience. This is a family owned and operated restaurant and having familiar face there waiting to serve you is very important to them. It doesn’t matter if you want to grab a quick meal or stay several hours; it’s all about the quality of customer service. That is what keeps you coming back for more. So, whether you are in the mood for a romantic meal, hang out and watch your favorite sports team, shoot a couple game of pool or appreciate a beautiful day on the patio; all the while enjoying amazing food, go to Jilly’s Café and Steakhouse located at 1630 Gravois Rd right at the corner of Little Brennen just behind the QT. I promise you, you will not be disappointed. Make sure you mention Full Throttle Magazine sent you. LET’S
Just over twelve years ago, John, Joe and Destiny Duever had no idea that their world was about to change. At the ages of 19 and 22, John and Joe had been working at their father’s landscaping business with the thought of possibility taking it over one day. That really was not the direction that John wanted to go, so he started working with his sister at a vehicle wrapping company. This company was owned by a gentleman who gave it to his children to run. They subsequently ran it into the ground. Needing to get out from under the business, he approached Destiny, asking her if she would want to buy the company. She indicated that she was flattered, but had no money. He offered her a deal that she could not refuse. There was only one catch. She would agree to buy the business only on one condition; her brothers would have to agree to become partners. And the rest was history.
Once the deal was finalized, they walking in the front door of the warehouse and walked out the back; taking everything they needed to start this amazing adventure. Hence VINYL IMAGES was created. At the time, having very little experience in the vehicle wrap industry, did not stop them from seeing an upcoming demand. This industry was really starting to take off. With that in mind and having the tenacity, the drive and the good ol’fashion hard work ethics, FAILURE was NOT an option. They began learning everything they needed to know to make this business a success; from the busiPage 30 www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com
WRAP
ness end of it to perfecting the art of wrapping. As with any business, there was trial and error, but that did not stop any of them. There was no fear…. “We are going to make it work!” Through the course of the years, they continued to perfect their craft. One thing that is very unique with Vinyl Images is that they travel around the world participating in vehicle wrap competitions. Isn’t there an old saying; “To be the best, you have to beat the best.” They have been to Germany, London, among other countries and have competed in this pristine competition many times ranking second four times, fourth once and first place once. So when they say they are the best in the world they can truly back it up.
They pride themselves on having the best team in the world. Every department has individuals that are the best in their field; from the sales to the installation. There is over 100 years of combined experience. Nothing is outsourced. The process offers a very smooth transition. The salesperson will sit down with you to discuss what it is that you are after. They will take pictures and make sure you get everything that you need. You will then be assigned a Project Manager. The project manager will be overseeing the entire process from the beginning to the end. If you don’t have a logo or not quite sure what direction you want to go for your business, no problem. Their advance graphics team will help you create that perfect logo and name branding materials in order for you to get the maximum exposure needed for your business. Once you have agreed on the design and layout, it will go down to the printing department. The product is printed and laminated and then put through a plotter. Once that occurs, then the process of www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com Page 31
“Weeding” happens. This is to take out all the excess material that is not needed. After this process, it’s ready for installation. Their installers are PDAA (Professional Decal Application Alliance) Master Certified. If you are getting a vehicle wrap, the installation department will make sure your vehicle is completely clean of all film, wax and debris. This will ensure proper installation. That goes for any surface having vinyl installed. Once installation is complete, the final product is ready for you to enjoy. You will be given care instruction before you leave. One of the most important things you will need to know is NOT to use wax. Vinyl is porous and can breathe. If you use wax, it will clog the pores and will cause damage to the vinyl over time. Vinyl Images offers a five year warranty on most of the vinyl wraps and graphics. Being the leader in the industry, they always want to turn to a superior product. That’s why they use companies such as Avery, 3M and Arlon for their vinyl. These companies are always trying to improve their products so they use Vinyl Images as a testing facility. So you can rest assured that you will always get the best product on the market today. There is one product that they use in their installation process that I thought was very fascinating. It’s rather simple really, but most effective. It’s called Knifeless Tape. According to John, “If you have to use a razor blade then you are cutting the paint.” It’s a thin piece of tape that has, what looks like, fishing line in the middle of it. You lay the tape on the item you are wrapping and they lay the vinyl on top. Then you grab that piece of fishing line and you pull up; creating a perfect clean cut. Now, Vinyl Images is not just all about vehicle wraps. There is so much more to the company. Fleet wraps, Boat Wraps and Graphics, Window Tinting, Paint Replacement Vinyl, Clear Bras, Banners, Motorcycle Wraps and Graphics, Signage, Window, Wall & Floor Page 32 www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com
Graphics, Backlit Signs, the list goes on. They are leading the industry with an upcoming craze. Chrome Wraps. They have a truck that has the first ever chrome graphic wrap, done about two years ago. And first ever chrome wrapped jet boat. No job is too big or too small.
Here is my take away from getting to know
John, Joe and Destiny. This is a true family owned and operated business. They continually strive to be the best in this industry. They do not boast and or beat their chest with their fists saying
and their fleet office
“Look at me, I’m wonderful”. Their tenacity, hard work, resilience and dedication speak louder than words. They speak quietly and produce a superior product. That’s what set them apart from all of their competition. So, after seeing how they operate and watching how the whole process unfolds, I would not want to go anywhere else. If you want to best, then you need to go to the best. Vinyl Images, Headquarters located at 615 Rudder Rd | Fenton, MO 63026
located in Memphis Tennessee is truly the best in every single way.

Welcome back Full Throttle readers and riders! This season has been filled with amazing riding and weather! It’s hard to believe the summer is coming to an end. The kids are heading back to school, Sturgis has come and gone, and the 2015 Harley-Davidson factory release is just days away! Well By the time you have picked up this issue the bikes will have already been released to the public and I will have just returned from the Harley-Davidson International dealer meeting! Now with the massive “Rushmore” over haul to the 2014 touring lineup last year I don’t expect major changes to that family this year. The Softail and Dyna line may see some upgrades but you never know with the Harley Brass. They always keep the folks working in the industry guessing. The Motor Company has really created some major media buzz in recent weeks and months. The release of the 500cc and 750cc water cooled Streets, the announcement that Harley is playing with the idea of producing electric powered bikes like LiveWire, and the big one that a lot of enthusiasts have been waiting for. Que drum roll please! THE RETURN OF THE ROAD GLIDE! Harley Released the return of the beloved RG many weeks back to those of us who work in the industry and were told to keep quiet. Like that’s gonna happen? Harley then confirmed the comeback at the rally in true Sturgis style! So what’s the big deal? Why all the hoopla? Ever ridden one? The Demo truck will have come and gone by the time this issue of Full Throttle hits the stands but I hope you stopped by to check out the lineup. So what is all the fuss about? I always hear

iend returns… “the two head lights are ugly”, “I can’t stand the shark nose fairing” or “it looks like a Goldwing”. Let’s step back a second and talk about the Goldwing. We can be honest here, you may not like it but we all know the Japanese over engineer the hell out of everything! There is a good reason the “fixed fairing”, meaning the fairing doesn’t move and is mounted to the frame, has been on the Goldwing’s since 1975. It rides like a dream and so does the Harley Road Glide. The fixed fairing offers tons of protection without having to fight the weight of the fairing on the handlebars. I myself was not a fan at first but was encouraged to ride one and by encouraged I mean my sporty keys were taken hostage till I experienced all the Road Glide had to offer by an old friend and sales manager. I thought it was huge and really just planned on parking it for the day, until the first turn it hit me. This bike is kinda fun? The bike was very nimble for such a massive beast. After 400 miles or so over that weekend I learned why so many people are making the change to the Road Glide. For the true road riders who log miles all year it was their flag ship. With the release of the Road Glide Custom, it opened all new doors to the customizing side of things. It truly is the Swiss Army knife of bikes. Hopefully the year long wait will live up to the hype. Harley carried on the Rushmore Project mentality with the new Glide, boasting a completely redesigned fairing. I myself have already been planning some builds for the sales floor and I am excited! So I invite you to stop on by and check out the red headed stepchild that is the Road Glide for yourself. Thanks for stopping by and y’all enjoy the ride!

Drivin
When life tries to hold you back some people may get mad and give up; not Brett Nelson. A few years ago Brett was given some news that didn’t really make him or his wife happy. He had a successful real estate business and when the market started to go south, he thought it was time to do something different. Always having a love for cars; old and new he created a company called “The Car Guy”. Whatever type of car that you are looking to purchase, Brett will located for you. He will make sure that everything is perfect on it and you then you drive away in your new car. If you want to talk cars, he is definitely the Car Guy to talk to. Once he had “The Car Guy” up and running, he began to focus on his lifetime dream of building custom cars. Brett was not all about building custom cars to keep them. He wanted to create and restore these cool cars so others could enjoy them; kind of like a Turn Key business. He already had a small team of very talented guys that worked with him; there is Brian Johnston who is also sales manager for the Car Guy Trailer Sales. Leading the actual body and service repair side is Jeffrey Burke from J.B. Customs and working with Jeff is Zach Lauer who does the mechanics on the newer cars. With the idea of building cool hot rods, Brett was able to purchase a Basket Case 1939 Chevrolet Master Deluxe 2-door Sedan at a fair price. Brett & Brian took an empty trailer and returned with a full one loaded with a lot of parts and a shell. They had a pretty good idea of what they wanted to build and it SEEMED to be a good deal since they bought it as a READY FOR PAINT car. Once they had it all unloaded it was easy to see it wasn’t really ready for paint but in fact it needed a lot of help. Jeff has done some amazing cars already but when he started on this one, he felt a bit overwhelmed and called on me “SHOWCAR SPECIALIST” to see if I could spare some time to help the project come together. I’m glad he did because Jeff Burke and I had worked together on many other cars and we make a pretty good team. Not to get into all of the details of what was all wrong, I’ll just say there was a reason the car was sold without the doors, trunk lid, hood, grille and running boards on the car. The last body guys didn’t do the car any favors and should not have worked on it. To understand the description of this car is to know the car

a little better; it may look like a ’39 Chevy when you first look at it but it has had a lot of unique changes. It is not just a smooth shiny orange car; it is the same Pearl Orange as the LAMBORGHINI that you would also like to own. The bodywork and paint was done by Jeff and me using BASF Glasurit paint and clears. We used a new design buffing pad from WATER JET TECH to give it that additional high glass finish. To have this type of smooth finish, one may think this car had a fiberglass body, but everything is all steel and is all original except for the firewall and rear roll pan. The wheels chosen were custom made aluminum Artillery style with 17X7 front and 18X10 rears with Michelin tires. To add to the fun factor of this car, we replace the old Stovebolt engine with a modern GM LS 5.3 engine and the matching 4L65E transmission. For the little extra kick when you want to go Full Throttle we had installed an Edelbrock Pro-Flo XT intake. To make the Old Chevy easy to drive we added a Mustang-ll style front suspension with Rack & Pinion steering, IDIDT steering column, Billet Specialties steering wheel and 4-wheel disc brakes. As you’re cruising around town there is no reason to be hot so naturally we have added Vintage Air’s heat & air conditioning. When you are sitting in the all new custom interior by Fred Sago of Riverside Upholstery you’ll feel very comfortable in the Ultra Leather and Suede material but you may feel out of place. Don’t worry about that because you will be looking at a steel dash from a ’55 Chevy that we made fit; transforming a ’55 to ’39 Chevy in just a matter of a few inches. You always want to monitor the engine and the speed so we added classic instrument gauges and added a matching clock on the passenger side just to remind you time doesn’t matter when you are out for a cruise. Like I said, Brett has a dream and a big one, so this may have been our first car we completed as a team but it certainly won’t be our last. As I am writing this article we are in the middle of another cool build which is a 1970 Trans-Am so watch for more to come…… Special Thanks to: Jeff Burke, JB Customs Roger Ferris, Showcar Specialist

So if you are a Custom Car Builder and the name of your company is SHOWCAR SPECIALIST, what do you do for “STRESS MANAGEMENT”? I’m not really sure what other custom car builders do but I have always wanted to build a Gasser-Altered-Hot Rod. As a kid I built a Gasser model out of a ’54 Chevy kit with a whole lot of extra parts from other model kits. So when a ’52 Chevy that sat on the back of a tow truck stopped by my shop on its way to the junk yard for scrap, I had to buy it. Sure ’52 and ’54 Chevys are different but the body style was close enough for me and for the asking price of $200.00, it was a done deal. The very first thing I did, was go into my basement and pulled out some old wheels that were collecting dust and took them to Firestone. I told the sales guy I wanted two 33 inch tall tires and two 26 inch tall tires and he thought I was crazy to put them on the same car. The next fun thing was to remove all of the front sheet metal, engine, transmission, crossmember and anything else in the way. I ordered a straight axle for the front and pushed the front tires forward three inches. I put the 33 inch tall tires next to the quarter panels and marked out the cut line. Yes, I cut out a large section of the quarter panels. So with the front and rear tires in place it was time to cut out everything else like the firewall, floor, the rear seat to trunk divider, trunk floor and the complete frame from the firewall all the way to the rear bumper, which I cut off as well. When I had everything cut out, I decided it was definitely going to have an altered wheelbase too. I moved the rear axle and rear wheel opening eight inches forward. This gives the car better weight transfer to the rear wheels for a better launch with your “Full Throttle” launches. Because this car was meant to be a fun, no stress and a low budget build, I was able to use a lot of old items from around the shop and other parts my customers donated to me. I also love World War ll planes with their Nose Art so naming the car and the theme for the car was Page 48 www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

easy. Just like the B-17 305 BG 8 AF NASM was named “SPARE PARTS”, so shall this car be named. The paint job was also very easy to design; it HAD to be like the Flying Tigers’ Shark Faced fighters P-40. For the help on the art work, I turned to my good friend Steve Shuck. The engine is a 350 cubic inch and a Turbo 350 transmission that was donated to me from Lance & Evie Waitz had over 350,000 miles without ever being overhauled. When it became time to freshen up the motor and transmission, I brought in a couple friends; Ron Conroy for the engine and Jeff Buzzetta for the Transmision. I felt very fortunate to have more great friends who also donated their time for the additional labor needed for the engine and transmission, Louis Jackson, Scotty and Matt McQuaid. I have to give credit to my machinist, Jerry Neuhause, who helped make my one-piece flip front end work so much easier. These are the kind of guys you want for friends, you can’t find any better. Not only was this Gasser fun to make and draws oodles of attention, it runs and handle like a dream. With the engine set back toward the rear of the car by 12 inches and having 4:56:1 positraction at the rear, when you floor it, you can feel the car just squat, ready for flight; just like the P-40 it resembles.
I’m not necessarily looking to do any Street Racing but, I can say that there are more than a few car owners shaking their heads to figure out what just happened. I have had more than one friend tell me, no matter what type of mood they are in, when they get into the car they are grinning ear to ear when they get out. Not only is this a great way for “STRESS MANAGEMENT”, it’s also a whole lot of fun. This just proves that you don’t have to spend a ton of money to have fun. So if you are looking for a Low Budget-High Fun Factor car or truck give us a call to see what we can build for you. www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com Page 49

OUR SERVICE To pay tribute to your loved one’s passion for riding motorcycles. A biker’s funeral is about celebrating the life of an individual, not mourning their death. If there is a special road or place they loved to ride, I would be honored to take them down that stretch of road they enjoyed so much, one last time.
