CHANGING HISTORIES!!

“The history behind their smiles”

Today we want to share with you the history of the three beautiful little girls that you can appreciate in our front page. They live in Cuyotenango, in the Pacific Coast of our country. As you can see in the photo, the smile that they have draw in their face transmit the happiness and security which they live, despite that a few months ago the history wasn’t like that. They belong to a group of families that lost everything because the Agatha Storm and now, thanks to the financial support of Ingrid and Lars Hannell Foundation and the support of Fundated, the have a decent and safe housing. Fundated found them approximately three months ago, found them in a deplorable housing situation. They lived in a house formed by laminates, which weren’t in good shape, and the floor was dirt. They had divided the spaces of their home in a way that we you enter into the house you found the kitchen and then it was a division made with the same laminates that make room to what it was the family room and everybody slept there in the same bed, while in a corner you could see a table that supposed to be the dinning room. The whole house occupied an space of no more that 8mts2., equivalent to the service room or the kitchen in a city house. Their state of health was devastating, during the visits that we made the last three months before the delivery of their home,

the children where thick with flu, fever, cough, chickenpox and stomach problems, all them a consequence to the rain that filtrates the oxidized laminates that cover the roof of the house and ironically were the same that used to bring them protection, because the floor of dirt that in that moment became mood. To us was a real happiness visit them, once they where already in their new home and see that for the first time the three of them where completely healthy, for the first time they don´t feel fear when they hear the rain comes, for the first time they tell us how the rain don´t waste their clothes and bed and how for the first time in a long time they were not afraid that the air of the night knocks the roof that keep them safe.

FUNDATED NEWS sat down with the coordinator of the Project of “informatics friends” Amarilis Oliva. The chance was given to talk about several subjects, such as; what is the Project, struggles along the way of the projects and also on her own life as a handicap person.

FN: Amarilis, How do you describe yourself?

“And I wanted to share that joy with other companions”

Amarilis: It’s a little hard to talk about myself and find the right words to describe myself. In a short way I would say I am a positive person that likes to make friendships, but above all, I consider myself an independent person even with my physical challenges.

FN: How did your desire to help people with handicap was born? Amarilis: The desire to help or to start this project started when I saw myself thankful to God and life for the goals that I have accomplished, and that achievements that I have reached, I started thinking, and I wanted to share that joy with other companions, giving them the opportunity to reach their

AMARILIS OLIVA

FN: At what time is informatics friends created? Amarilis: In the year 2001 we started with the idea of this project, to teach computer skills to people with handicap so they could have a tool for their life. It was there where our project started as a pilot program with only 7 students, thinking that, it was a small number and easy to attend in the academy, what was our surprise? When this 7 students graduated they where multiplied by 3 each one, because

they spread the voice of alarm to other people with handicap, at the end of 2003 there was a graduation of 35 students. That for me was wonderful, I never expected it to multiply that fast and I surely never expected that answer or better said, the desire of other handicap people to train themselves in something and the interest that they showed. Of course these 35 students did not stay at full time for the entire year, we had a program that lasted for 3 months, and every 3 months is a period and the group of student’s changes.

FN: Amarilis, as a woman, what obstacles have you encounter on the way to get where you are now? Amarilis: In society, several barriers have been found that are set toward us because of gender issues, because women are the minority when it comes to capacity of development,

own goals and that they can also be independent in some way in their life.

FN: How did your relationship with FUNDATED started and how has it influenced in what informatics friends is now? Amarilis: My relationship with FUNDATED at a beginning was in a indirect way, because thanks to the support of

and adding to that discrimination of gender, is the discrimination because of the handicap, that is another barrier. A barrier that has been overcome only by showing that we are as capable as anyone that can walk. The obstacles that we can find it would be that in the beginning, it was how to move the students to the academy, because we were getting plenty of applications, but their economic situation didn’t allow them the possibility to pay a taxi to get to the academy. Because of this reason, mechanisms of transport had to be created, but these had to be cheap and the foundation thanks to God has always supported us. As a mechanism of the program, the people that come from far parts would come once a week in order to save some money. But, they had an intensive course that started at 9am and it ended at 4pm in order for us to take advantage of that time.

FN: Amarilis, in an average, how many teenagers and adults are benefitted with this program? Amarilis: Looking back at the past, throughout these 9 years that we already have in the computer academy. I would dare

to say that we have had an average of 700 hundred students, it sounds a big number, like I said before, every 3 months the groups changed and in some years there were more students and in others less. This varies but more or less that is the number of participants.

FN: Who are the people that benefit from your project? Amarilis: Basically, it’s people with a handicap, it can be a physical handicap or a sensorial handicap, because we have had students with visual deficiency, they are NOT blind, but they have visual deficiency, and also deaf students. I have communicated with these students in an excellent way without receiving a preparation in sign language or something like it. Bless be God, that we have

FUNDATED at the beginning of the academy, we have the construction of the first school or academy. This was with the support of FUNDATED, further on and after 5 years of the start of the academy. We started working as part of the projects supported by FUNDATED and since then we have a relation with also the organization VAMOS ADELANTE with Nina Jergeusen that was the one who made the contact with FUNDATED.

FN: Amarilis, you as an entrepreneur woman, do you think that you already achieve your goal or do you feel that you still have more to reach? Amarilis: Honestly, I still have the forcĂŠ to follow up and to keep finding new ways of support and help. I think that while Jesus gives me life and every day I have the courage to stand up and come to work and go out to search opportunities, I will keep doing it till he gives me life. In the goals or illusions that still are, is to find ways of work insertion to disable people, because now we find this problem and we already have prepared a lot of people, thanks to God, and many of them had achieved an medium academic level. But, the problema

understood each other. We have also had students with mental deficiency, this has been with mild mental deficiencies, yet this students have presented to me the desire to learn how to manage a computer. Where we detected also that students needed an academic nivelation on regular academic subjects, I am talking about those students, who are adults that did not finish primary school, we put them in a program that was implemented alongside the computer program. A program of nivelation for grown adults, that was supported by CONALFA (national literacy committee) of which we have had a good number of graduate students, some of them continue their high school studies and at the present moment, there is only one that has followed a career in the university after finishing high school. With one that has reached this process of overcoming oneself, its an improvement that is very meaningful for us.

FN: As a conclusion Amarilis, What message can you leave our readers with? Amarilis: I would like people to know that they don’t have to judge people because of how they look; they have to believe more in what’s inside of every person. A second message that I would like to share is that, when someone has a dream, you don’t have to abandon it; you have to fight to develop it and move forward, with tenacity, any goal that you set yourself with can be reached.

in Guatemala is serious, not just for disable people, but also to people that don’t have any problem to move, so it’s more difficult to us. This is the new challenge that we have in the Academy and we are working on that. We find ourselves doing contacts with INTECAP to work together and knock the doors of enterprises and talk about our work experience to make them able to trust us, because to simple view they may think that be in a Wheel chair is to be a thick person, but is not like that. We are able to develop in any work activity if they give us the chance.

This exhibition was on April 7th, 2011. “Violence against women is one of the most serious health and human rights problem in the world

Family violence is the manifestation of the exercise of power from one person to another in the form of insults, threats, blackmail, physical aggression that affects the physical, sexual and psychological health of those who suffer from it, mainly being those children and women. Nevertheless, this is a problem that usually is kept quiet and hidden, mainly by the victim and in many cultures and in some beliefs this is tolerated, even seen as a right that all men have over women and children, making it part of the family life, it becomes part of the daily life, which causes it to extend throughout the future generations and its incorporated into the patters in which children are raised, causing their children to apply it in the future. Women who attended the exhibition where asked: who had been a victim of episodes of violence, both physical and psychological caused by their husband or partner. Did he act

NO MORE VIOLENCE

There were several interviews that “She was moved me, I can’t believe that in our country there is so much macho traumatized culture and people without a heart, wanting to cause harm to a 5 year old by everything girl or even smaller, they are only that babies; it’s sad to have to live these happened” realities. In the exhibition there where so many stories that made me sad, in one or the other way we suffer from aggression. It can be from our parents, brothers, uncles, grandfathers, boyfriends, etc. “Consuelo” which is not her real name, suffered a lot; she told her story that when she was a child she was abused sexually and physically, her being only 5 years old, her grandfather abused her. When she turned 8 years old, her grandfather died; she felt no pity for him, she remembers screamed to him “I hope you go to hell”. She was traumatized by everything that happened. As time passed she went for professional help, where they have helped her a lot. She now tells her story to other women. I think that by telling something that caused pain and hurt in us, it opens a space for women, a space of not remaining in silence, by fear, panic or shame. Sadly in our society there are still many macho people, but as women we should and have to be strong, and speak without fear.

violently? To whom did she asked help? Did she visit an organization for help? And to those who didn’t do it; why didn’t they do it? To the women who had at least one child living at home where asked; who punished the kids in the house? What are the punishments like? Also, they were asked; how did their parents punished her, and if the father punished the wife or not. Finally, the ones that where interviews here asked; if they thought physical punishment was necessary to educate children.

This are some of the examples she gave: VERBAL ABUSE: insults, critics and public humiliations EXCESIVE JELOUSY: Possesive behavior, they accuse women with flirting with other men. PUNCHES AND INJURIES: Often he will hit her, shove her, and in some cases they will do it infront of other people.

Politics and Society

To enter the subject about conjugal violence, women who are married or in a joint relation, or even women who were married previously, they were asked questions regarding if their husbands or partners were violent or if they made accusations regarding the life as a couple. The psychologist pointed that the women who are victims as the agressors can have a personality and a social condition that is very diverse, and that in most women that have a violent partner don’t tell about it; but how can we notice that the partner is violent?

Diana Montenegro

Politics and Society

As women, we must say stop now, violence is an act of cowardness and low life. This is also a call to men, they have to give us our place, warmth, love and remember that you where born from a divine being that’s called woman.

Some days ago, I was made to reflect about my country, this words; “a land without legs, but it walks” … “The juice of my struggle is not artificial, because the soil of my land is natural”. Yes, it’s the letter of a song that belongs to a group that it characterizes itself because of their polemic content; it’s the group called Calle 13, with their song: “Latinoamérica”.

Even the geographic position favors us we think about it: “that the superior is the one “a land on top”, everything that happens on top has without a consequence down! But, even having this disadvantage we are “IN development”, legs, but words that have spread not only it walks” grammatically, but in space and time…I know development is constant and it requires time, but does it have to appear eternal? And less in the conditions that a great deal of countries in Latin America are… “I am development in the flesh”

Latin America, land that enjoys a holy climate… “Time of cold in the middle of winter” Only here we have extraordinary climates… Extraordinarily crazy! One day I’m choking because of the heat and suddenly a blessing falls as big drops

Latin America…Holy Land!!

“I am all they left”… the best, my people… the character and the essence that characterizes us to not fade away and to perseverate in conditions of life that have prolonged themselves to railroad tracks… you don’t know where it ends, all I know is that from a long time we are on tracks.. “tracks of development”

people that work “countryside hand working for your consumption”… our own consumption, naturally without “I was knowing; we buy and consume the products made by our own hands, blessed by acquiring it at a triple cost…

I was blessed by being born in this paradise, filled with color and flavor… Only here can you find so many poets inspired by so much beauty, they create their inspiration in poems and songs… “The verses written under a shatter night”… and yes! hard times are lived in this part of the world, by political, economic and social issues, well then…! This month we had Angelina Raymundo in our presence in the main office of FUNDATED in order for her to participate in a workshop about civic duties, the importance of voting, what to think at the time of voting, etc. FUNDATED NEWS took advantage of this situation in order to talk with Angelina and to talk about her way to politics and the empowerment that she has had as a woman that has developed in the field of service and politics.

FN: Angelina, how has your road to empowerment been? Angelina: I think that the road begins in the momento that I start believing that I can and that thanks to God I meet people that also believe in me and that have told me; “you can do it, go”. It’s there were one breaks ones fears, because fear will always exist, the fear of “will they accept me or will they not” which is something that sometimes its hard to break. I grew in a close family, they gave me all the love in the world. My parents loved and love me as well as my brothers, and I believe that is fundamental when its time to o to the streets to

Politics and Society

INTERVIEW TO ANGELINA RAYMUNDO

My parents are first born children from both their families, we are the only ones that reached the township, to the head of the municipality and the rest stayed in the villages and communities. Then, I think that what has helped me is the education that my parents gave me, that was my best tool, just tos ay; I can, I want and I want to keep on growing despite growing up in the middle of so many obstacles. I wanted to be an auditor but because of the economic factor I couldn’t, so pedagogy was at hand, so I said, instead of staying asleep and waiting for the auditor career to come and already witha child, I tell my husband; “let’s go study a teaching degree” to what he answered; “what for ir we are accountants?, we have to follow accounting” I used to ask ; “but when?” the child was on its way and that’s when I said; “lets go study pedagogy, far from staying here let’s go learn” Then I am the fifth of six children and we have all studied. I think that also they have been role models for me to follow, therefore if they where studying I would also be doing so. Then I do think that for empowering myself, I must prepare myself, I must study in order to compete outside, believe in

Politics and Society

face the outside world. I believe that if those values don’t exist, those principles, a person enters the streets empty and inside in a society. Another factor that has helped me a lot is that my parents with the fingers counted, they were two people that decided that their six children had to study. On my father’s side I have six uncles, and no child of them studied and on my mother’s side I have 8 uncles, and none of their children studied.

FN: as a Mayan woman, what did it mean that as a Mayan woman you would be breaking paradigms by saying, I can, I will move on and believe in the potential that is in me? Angelina: I believe that there are two relevant things for me in my early beginning. The position of my mother, she used to say, that if I had decided to have a family, I had to be aware of what that roll meant, like the roll she played, the mother of the house, the mother that takes care of the children and my father outside working. She told me: “that’s why you studied, then you shouldn’t have gotten married” That’s were culture and family draws its limits. The one who supported me was my father, he said to me: “No, but if you want to do that then do it”. Then the family of my husband enters and says: “look, that womand rules you, that woman doesn’t respect you, that woman will leave you”. Really, it has beed hard, but now its ten years of marriage. So it’s where I say in the middle of it all, it has been a challenge, a challenge because there are also problems, there are times where one feels in the lose rope, but it’s part of the challenge. In the same way, convincing that person that is at my side, that is what I used to say; How do you reach an agreement with your couple? Because its difficult when you are married, more in us native people, breaking those paradigms. Thanks to god I have had luck that

Politics and Society

me, know that I can and that I can contribute. It’s there where the empowerment can me found.

I have a very high self-esteem and I believe in myself, the expressions of discrimination, far from affecting me, they make me grow. I believe that the self-esteem that I have and what I believe is so big, that it’s what has helped be not to crumble and fall and to believe that I can.

FN: do you think that in a future, Guatemalan women will be able to feel and believe in this that you have mention and they will be able to see the potential that is inside of each and every one of them? Angelina: I think that their is already participation from women, they can be counted with the fingers, but it does exist. There are women that are empowered, native women, mayan women, mestizo women, etc. those empowered women exist, what we want is to be mulitpliying agents because alone we wont be able to do it. When I speak of equality I don’t mean to leave men excluded. I believe that by nature we are created men and women, is their where the alternation that I speak of is, I

Politics and Society

we can make agreements. The comunication is very important, as well as the trust. I have found those limits along the way, but I have known how to overcome them, I think its possible to make that change. Today both families applaud me, I am a role model to my children, and I have told them; “This life won’t be enough to reach all I want to reach, but it will be up to you to do it”. I am empowering my children, there is where change is.

The preparation of women is there, this election year will be historical. There are many women participating and it looks pretty. There are empowered women, women of action, but still there are many that need to be added to this balcony.

FN: What inspires and motivates you? Angelina: I get motivated by making of Guatemala a Guatemala that we still haven’t reached, sometimes we say we want change, but, change of what? If there is nothing. What is what we want to change? We want what Guatemala needs, a Guatemala where there is equality, justice and peace. That will only be accomplished through education, I believe that that is the start of everything. I agree with the majority of participants that demand; education, health and security. I’m inspired by being that voice that can reach to the highest of levels to demand that it is done and that people’s needs are answered. Being a spokeperson, I identify myself like a spokeperson of that voice that sometimes it’s not able to reach. It’s a big challenge because I need to go, ask and consult. But by being representative, not Angelina, being representative of that group that has not manifested itself, of that group that has not been Heard and for them I can work.

Politics and Society

believe that you think different from I and I from you, and that the agreement is what makes the difference.

Angelina: I believe that to speak about empowerment, first I have to strengthen and contribute to the self-esteem of that person, we have to start from the self-esteem. If I can, in the case of you ar an organization and the work you develop, it’s very important to strenghten self-esteem, If I have self-esteem I will believe in myself. Strengthening from that point, that they believe in themselves to look for support, therefore sometimes by fear they say: “oh no, but what will my husband say” they haven’t even asked yet, and what would happened if they are told yes and support them and agree with them and say do it. I always say: “I sin better by saying it and then telling me that I was wrong than by later people saying why didn’t you say it”.

Politics and Society

FN: What words would you give some of those persons that feel fear of going further, but know that in a part of them is that potential to do something big?

Every day people goes out, walk in the streets and arrive to their offices and at the end of the day the go to their houses, and do not realize that they throw their trash anywhere, affecting the environment. Without the knowledge of the recycling concept, and much less they realize that there are GARBAGE CLASSIFIERS, to different kinds of material.

The recycling process is a concept that defines like “the process where waste materials are collected and transformed to be reused and sold as new products or raw material The concept of recycling now, despite being an issue that has gained prominence; many people have no knowledge of what and how to do it. Now the experts and school that promote the recycling are still inexpert in how to teach the concept of environmental protection and care, therefore, have neglected their practice creating a difficulty in the process of

Communitarian Development

GARBAGE CLASSIFIERS

The five reasons people make the decision to not recycle are because:

1. They believe inconvenient 2. They do not have enough space 3. They do it only if paid 4. They see no difference whether they do it or not 5. They have no knowledge of how to do it.

For this same reason, various entities had created the methods of classifications, to help and teach the people to do and make a good recollection, in both streets, as schools, offices and homes; is then where born the term of GARBAGE CLASSIFIERS.

The types of Garbage Classifiers contribute and try to put in order the recycling and cleaning system in a society. The garbage work like messages that transmit us authorities and entities that help to keep clean the environment. The Garbage Classifiers are located in strategic points like streets, schools and offices, and these are usually different colors. For example, usually yellow is for containers and cans, green for glass, red fordangerous substances, blue for papers and paperboard and for last the organic material that usually is in

environmental education, which has led to studies of why not recycle.

In Hong Kong was made a very interesting study in the College of Educative Unit, in high school, where they evaluate the utility of the Garbage Classifiers to the collection of recycle materials and the elements that affect the utilization of them. The majority report that was the lack of publicity and not has the knowledge about the location of them, the next results was the lack of knowledge and the common practice of using trash cans and that the uses of the Garbage Classifiers are irrelevant.

In almost all the cases the rate of use of trash cans of three colors is very low, mainly because the trash cans are not located in the more convenient places to make it easy and generate their use, likewise, there is a lot to be done in education about recycling, therefore, the students, officers and even people in each home should be encouraged to know

YOUTH‌

The youth is consider the hope of change, being the youth a stage of the blossom of human life from where the culmination of childhood is developed, where the vitality and energy are the main characteristic and where its necessary the most amount of training in order to prepare citizens so that society get positive elements for its own development. Each teenager and Young person has dreams and goals on a short, medium and long term, some of them achieve this dreams and some get short of making them reality by several situations that their life presents them with.

The population of youth lives different experiences in their life according to the social circle in which they participate in. in the years 2006 and 2001 I had the opportunity to live together with boys, girls and teenagers of the streets and of high risk, I could watch, live and above all learn from each and every one of them; How they lived and helped each other like a family, despite the situation in which they were living in, that

Each young person needs a space not only of expression, but where he or she gets attention; being young is an opportunity to create bonds of friendship with the people around us. It’s also having the strength to induce a country that needs us, let’s look at life with some positivism lets be ourselves, lets live with enthusiasm, joy, humility, hope, lets fight to accomplish our dreams, let not get comfortable in life styles that can limit our opportunities to keep on growing, we are several that say “the youth is the present of our country” plenty others say “the future of our country”, the truth is that no matter the age that we may have, we are being part of the construction of the present and the future of our country.

What the program includes is Spanish lessons either one on one or in a small group. Starting with 4 hours a day for 5 days a week completing an intensive course sometimes of 4 weeks. The students, in order to practice their Spanish, stay in a Guatemalan home spending time with the family who gives them three meals a day from Monday to Saturday. Usually students go to work as volunteers in many Non Profit Organization, to help the community and to keep practicing their Spanish. Guatemala is rich in many ways starting on the many traditions that have been alive from generation to generation. An example is the family´s traditional cooking which offers travelers many delicious dishes to try. Tamales are very common as well as Pepiån de pollo, rellenitos de plåtano, tortillas and many more. Travelers can get a healthy meal for Q15 = $2. Many indigenous ladies are selling them in the street, usually close to a church. In Antigua Guatemala, there is also the general Market that offers an experience with locals, that students and travelers can enjoy. Market days are Monday, Thursday and Saturday

In the previous article, we talked about that a indigo child is identified because he or she is shows a new and unusual series of psychological attributes with a behavior that is not yet documented. This pattern has common and unique factors that suggest that those who interact with them (Parents usually) must change the way in which they treat and raise them in order to accomplish a balance; or in the contrary, they can develop an imbalance and a big frustration in the minds of these new valuable lives.

There are several types of indigo children, but in the following list there are some of the most common behaviors of these children:

They come to this world with a feeling of royalty (and frequently can act that way)

They have the sensation of “deserving to be here and they get surprised when others don’t share that.

parents “who are they”.

They have difficulty to accept a complete authority with no explanation or alternative.

They will simply not do certain things; for example: waiting in life is very hard for them.

They frustrate themselves with systems that don’t require a creative process.

With frequency they find better ways to do things, both in the house as in school, what makes them rebels, not conformed with any system.

They seem antisocial unless they find themselves with children from their own class. If there aren’t any others with their same level of conscience, frequently they introvert themselves, thinking that no human can understand them. School at times is very hard for them from a social level.

Health and Life

Self-esteem is not a subject of concern for these children. With frequency they can tell their

Characteristics to identify an indigo child: Authors enlist some traits that can help you identify if a child is indigo or not: They have big sensibility They have excess energy They are distracted easily or have a poor level of concentration.

They need adults that are emotionally stable and secure around them. They prefer other ways of learning, especially in math and reading.

They can get frustrated easily because they have great ideas but few resources or people willing to help them make them. They learn in an exploratory way, and they resist learning in a mechanical or by simply hearing. They don’t resist much time seating unless they are focused in one subject. They are very understanding and have several fears, such as; death and the loss of their love ones.

Health and Life

They are shy at the moments that they have to express to you what they need.

Phisically they have a bulge in their frontal lobe, their eyes are bigger and with fine texture, they are usually thin, eat little and even some tend to be vegetarians.

Their 5 senses are highly developed, they are left-handed or ambidextrous. Visually they can see the energy field of people, plants and animals. When it comes to smell they have to smell everything and they are very defined in the smells that they hate and like. With their touch they are hypersensitive, preferring clothes that are 100% natural. They have cellular active memory, bringing to their present, memories of their past life. They are highly intuitive, they see the external world with great ease

and are able to communicate with it.

Problems that Indigo children may experiment:

They demand great attention and feel that their life is too valuable in order to let pass. They want things to happen and with frequency they force a situation in order to get what they want.

Health and Life

If they taste failure or deception at an early age, they can desist and develop a permanent blockage.

Indigo children are spectacular and they are destined for social, education, family and spiritual transformation, regardless of the borders and social class. They possess a cerebral structure that is very different in what refers to the use of the potency of their brain hemispheres, left (less) and right (more). This means that they go over the intellectual plane and help to eliminate to paradigms from humanity. They help to shorten the distance between THINKING and ACTING. In the present moment we all know what is right and what´s wrong. Nevertheless, frequently we act differently from what we think. Indigo children will induce people to shorten this distance, generating a more authentic, clear family and society that has more trust in our relations.

They help us change the focus of I toward our fellow person, starting from the reestablishment of

Health and Life

They can irritate themselves emotionally by those who don’t understand the indigo phenomenon. They can’t understand why people don’t operate in ways that are based in love Even so, they are extremely insistent and skilled to help children that are in need even though their help is rejected. In their youth they can have adaptation problems with other kids. They are frequently diagnosed with attention disorder or some form of hyperactivity.

We may ask ourselves, how will these kids make such a transformation? Through questioning and the change of rigid institutions that surround them. Starting with the family that is based in the imposition of rules without time of dedication no explanation, without information and no election or negotiation.

These kids simply don’t respond to this rigid structures because for them it’s indispensable to have options, real relations and plenty of negotiation. They don’t accept

being tricked because they have an “intuition” to perceive real intentions, and they have no fear. Therefore, intimidating them doesn´t work, because they will always find a way to obtain the truth, therefore they perceive real intention and the weakness of adults.

The second institution that is vulnerable to the action of the indigo children is SCHOOL. In a school where the model of teaching is always imposed, without hearing and the participation of the students, it’s not accepted by the indigo children, mainly because of a lack of affective and love bonds. By possessing a different mental

In the previews article I talked about the importance of assertive communication with your children. However, do making see the importance of having a clear and effective communication to parents, is only part of what having an assertive communication involves. Within our Guatemalan culture we use the phrase "easier said than done, that is a long way", implying that to say how things are, or how they should be is not complete without taking those words and turn them into action.

Being able to communicate assertively with their children, or others, you will realize for yourself how necessary it is to listen and respond to the needs of others, without neglecting their own needs and without compromising their beliefs. Achieving, a better, interpersonal relationship.

When you as a father and mother want to set rules inside and outside the house hold;being assertive in your communication will be very useful, because in the establishment of rules you want to implement your own interests, but at the same time respecting the rights of your children without falling into over-

Health and Life

HOW CAN YOU GET A CLEAR COMMUNICATION WITH YOUR CHILDREN WITHOUT PUTTING YOUR AUTHORITY AWAY?

Therefore, Farfán (2007), proposes, in its Programme of Assertive Communication "Dialogue", the following items for proper assertive action:

2. Setting the problem: It is about describing the difficulty or dissatisfaction, explaining why you need a change. For example: "But when you do that, I get frustrated and it takes me much longer. By the time we're going, we are angry with each other, and without intention of having a good time. "

1. Empathy / validation: Try to say something that shows understanding for the feelings of the other person. This will show that you’re not trying to start a fight. For example: "I know you, get anxious when you're ready but I do not.”

3. Establish what you want: It is a request to change something specific about the behavior of another person. For example: "From now on, make sure you know the time we leave, and you're ready before me” or “ could you please just go to another room to read the newspaper or watching television?”

protection. Remember that every tip of communication is a combination of verbal and nonverbal, that is, between words and how your body expresses.

Ultimately there is no way to completely disappear conflicts of the everyday life. Usually the problem is in how to avoid losing all the energy in struggles for power that have no rationale. For example, when you return tired from work or some event

"Every beginning is a challenge. The uncertainty can be frightening, but our dream doesn’t detain us, that we set forward toward what we most want, what is waiting for us to meet us, we don´t know where, nor when, but we do know why. PAULO COELHO The capacity to make decisions is influenced by the essential abilities of the human being, such as: To acknowledge of himself To know his own reality Information management To foresee the consequences that involve the decision To discover what you wants and how to do it. They say that each person is what they decide to be, or that the life is developed according to the decision of each one. Therefore, it can be said that make a good decision consist on trace the target that you want to achieve, gather all the relevant information and take into account the preferences of who have to make the decision. Make good decisions is the way to raise the possibilities to achieve good results, personal security and success in the self-realization. The make of decisions is a voluntary act that makes a person or a group of them facing a trouble or an awkward situation, in which it has to be chosen the option that is consider the most adequate. MAKING DECISIONS

It aims not only to achieve valued and perceive yourself with your own limitations and capabilities, but also be able to decide in front a problematic situation, assuming the consequences that involves that decision. Now we are going to talk about the phases in the process of Making Decisions: IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM: We have to recognize the problems to search possible solutions. What do we have to decide? ANALYSE THE PROBLEM: In this step it should be determined the causes of the problem and its consequences, as well as collect as much information as possible of it. Which are the possible options? EVALUATION OR STUDY OF THE DIFFERENT OPTIONS: Is the moment to focus in the identification of the possible solutions of the problem or issue, and in the consequences of each one of them involves. Which are the advantages or disadvantages of each option? SELECTION OF THE BEST OPTION: Once analyzed all the possibilities that you have consider, you have to choose the one that it seems to be the more convenient to solve the conflict, assuming the consequences that involves. Which is the best option? APPLICATION OF THE MEASURES TAKEN: Once you make the decision you have to put it in practice and watch its evolution. Is right the decision?

Health and Life

The make of decisions is a capacity that has to be developed as part of the personal self-realization.

I leave saying that you have to take into account how people make decisions is influenced by their perceptions, beliefs and values, so a decision never will be exactly the same between one person and another, it will always be labeled with the unique and mistakable touch of each human being.

EVALUATION OF THE RESULT: In this last phase is necessary to consider if the problem has been resolve according to the expected. Is producing the expected results the decision taken?

Trying to follow my last article about “what do you think?“ Where we talked a little about our thoughts, our words, our actions, to don´t feel defeated or believed that we cannot dare to achieve something, I share with you this. I was in Patzún, in a conference about harmful thought, which was about the way that we can have it, but we can also fight against it when they appear, and then I ask to myself where are you in this day with your thoughts? How many times in our life we had thought that we are too small to make the difference? How many times, that thought has stopped us to do something that in our hearth we knew that is valuable? Like me, I’m pretty sure that…. Many times! Many times, every time that the sun rises, to some people is the beginning of a new torture and to others is the door to a new experience. To see the negative side of the things, sometimes we just have to see around us and we will find sufficient grounds to anguish us, and to find a door of opportunities we just have to look beyond what surround us and then we will see that including this day, we have a good and agreeable day. Today is a good moment to forget what you had left behind, and to extend to the future of your life, giving you the opportunity to begin again and to remember that there is

In our life, we have stages, circumstances, moments and people that make it more beautiful, but they will not be there all the time, we will enjoy every thing and every detail in its moment. Think in positive thoughts that make us happy, we just need a decision, do everything that you do well, trace objectives, get inspiration and follow your instinct. An example of the exercise of leadership in team work

It was more than a month ago and I still carry in my cell phone as a paper wall the score that indicates the minute 71 with 30 seconds, of the second part of the football game between our national team and the all mighty team of the United States of North America. At that instant 2 to 1 was the score, which stood until the game was finished.

I am encourage to think that 90% of the Guatemalan population would have thought that the United states team was the one winning the game and the pass to the youth world cup, but as a surprise; our team was the one classifying.

TO DREAM IS ALLOWED

Team work? Leadership? Attitude? Heart, body and soul?….. what was going on that day that for the first time in more than 500 years, a national team from a joint sport, was classifying to a football world cup? Is the game over? I didn’t have the courage to open my eyes and the noise from the television and phones didn’t allow me to hear if the drama was over and if the celebration had begun. I said to myself, is dreaming allowed? I am afraid to do so. How many times 13 million people have had the dream that our country would be in a world cup appointment. How much longer? Is this referee Mexican that he doesn’t want to let us dream?.... is dreaming allowed?... make it be over now!! When at last the pain was over and the result was favorable to our team, I could not believe it.. We won, at last! Our right to assist to a world cup. What a pleasure and satisfaction for me, now I didn’t have to be jealous of all those people who for more than one month that the championship lasts, can

I remember very well that my mother was in Ecuador and she was asking by phone every five minutes what was the score. With many of my “contacts” from social networks, we where exchanging information on the advancement of the game; I was fighting with the narrators from Mexico that every minute where making offensive comments to our national team, incredulous perhaps in seeing that another team and not theirs, was the one making that moment the David in the history by defeating the Goliath of the Concacaf Series.

The interesting thing of this dream is that it does not end there. In the following games, our national team, our blue and white, kept playing with positive attitude of “no conformism” that for several decades has darkened our national sports. We finished classifying for a world cup and for the PanAmerican games, a triumph that was never accomplished by another national team in all our history, I repeat it! Teamwork? ... Leadership? ... Attitude? ... Heart, body and soul?... What happened? I would dare to think that EVERYTHING HAPPEND!! A group of young men was injected with a philosophy of what teamwork is really about, through a leader that made them see that all of them have enough capacity to achieve all their objectives, which has to be, the common objective. If there is no tune, effective communication, vision and shared mission, there is nothing. The final result: make history in a country that doesn’t believe in much or in nothing. Nothing more than that was what happened that historic day. Please, it was no political party, no demagogue, and no pseudo leader that takes advantage of every moment to make itself publicity. What little self-esteem would we have if we would believe in this stupidity or if we would spread this message. I ask now, if us or our organizations could reach the same results? ... What are we missing? ... Can we, if we wanted to,

support their national team, from this moment on, I could do so as well.

Many times we have found ourselves with people or characters that don’t let or don’t want to be part of a change in history, but as leaders, we have to make decisions and recruit, like a football coach, only those hearts, bodies and souls that WANT to be part of our group of work. Wanting those not give in the moment the skill; but yes to the attitude, of overcoming and going out to win. Don’t we want that? .... I want to think and feel we do. My national team is in the world cup. It’s competing to the highest level. It’s there. My national anthem and my flag will be seen throughout the entire world. What am I or my organization missing in order to compete to the highest level: Teamwork?... Leadership?... Attitude?..... Heart, body and soul? Have you ever noticed in the importance that a logo has for a company? For example; if we think en two semi-spheres, one red and another blue with a White stripe in the middle, we will surely think of Pepsi, or if we see a big “M” in yellow color, it’s likely that we will think of McDonalds, likewise if we see a big red circle with White letters, it will remind us of Coca-Cola. Even though the program SPOR is not known as much as the previous brands, we believe that it was a challenge making with our own skills something that represents us. Besides that we have to take into account that the new ones, beginners are us in the program, therefore we had to use all our experiences in order to get a better result. Let’s remember that the ideas in order to make the initial sketch where so many, some wanted a fjord others wanted a polar bear, safari, a collage of pictures, anyway, a great deal of articles that represented the three points of the program; Norway, Tanzania and Guatemala. As time passed, we realized that little by little the mural was taking shape, the result started to be more noticeable. One by one each detail started to fill the expectation of the mural, from the traditional dress of the Guatemalan to reaching the horizon of Tanzania, like the top point of the mayan ruin and the flag of the viking boat. I think it represents years of culture and millions of people that throughout this world, specifically these people that have passed through the cultural exchange program of SPOR. To give it the final touch, we chose a detail that would represent each member of SPOR that was in the office, they had to come and put their hand in paint and leave it on the wall and if they wanted to, they could write their name in order for them to remember and show

color to settle into the wall and even more because the previous color was a dark one. After painting it and waiting for it to dry, we found ourselves with another challenge, how can we pass the drawings from paper to the wall? The solution; project an image with the projector to the wall, then draw it and then we could start painting. The first thing we painted was the flag of Tanzania, which actually helped us to observe a weakness and a strength. It turns out that Kevin is actually bad at tracing and maybe ReneĂŠ has more experience (maybe because of the yes), well this made us split the tasks, meaning ReneĂŠ worked in the trace of the drawing and Kevin worked in the hard brush.

We believe that one of the main products of this mural, was the chance to relate to each other, seeing that in was in the firsts week of us working completely together, and from morning to sunset, which made us come together more, even though Erick was not with us for that activity, the mural also represents and means something to him, his opinion is as follows: “I think that the mural reflects the culture of every country with symbols that are important like the pyramids of Guatemala, the savanna of Tanzania or the caravel of Norway, making everything get the attention by its colors and dimensions, and knowing the main objective of this mural I think the concept of intercultural or cultural exchange is reached, and in the center the representatives of each country are shown with their traditional clothes. Despite the distances of each continent and country, through the mural one can reach an subjective approach, that reflects the common interests of knowing, learning and creating bonds of friendship through art, history, traditions and customs.
