25 Velddrif with Laaiplek and Port Owen Head straight fo Velddrif via the R27. Then make sure your first stop is Bokkom Laan next to the Berg River. Find more information in the Berg Route section.

18 West Coast Fossil Park Millions of years ago the West Coast landscape was one of riverine forests and wooded savanna. This is where the short-necked long-horned giraffe, the first bear (south of the Sahara) and an early type of Mammoth lived. Go on daily guided tours to the site where a diversity of fossils can be seen in the ground where they were buried five million years ago. This is one of the richest fossil sites in the world of this time period. A children’s mock dig, coffee shop and tuck shop make for great fun for all ages. 19 Hopefield Hopefield is the oldest town in the Cape West Coast and dates back to 1851. Visit Kerk Straat (Church Street) and the Simply Bee observation centre, where Hopefield’s bees zoom in from fynbos fields. Enjoy pampering treats and gifts. Visit the Mill Country Fair (every Saturday) for locally grown fruit & veg, eats and artisan bread. Stay longer: at Merry Widow B&B.
