3A Estimating by Rounding Numbers Fill out the table. Estimate by rounding numbers to the given place value. Use the rules below. Round 3 7 2 to the nearest hundred. Look at the digit in the place to be rounded.

372

Then, look at the digit to its right.

372

The digit being rounded doesn't change if the digit to the right is less than 5. The digit being rounded increases by 1 if the digit to its right is 5 or more. Then, digits to the right of the place that is rounded become 0s. Digits to the left don't change.

372 Rounds to 400

Example: Round 5,4 9 5 ... to the nearest thousand 5,4 9 5 4 is less than 5. The 5 stays the same. 5,0 0 0

to the nearest hundred 5,4 7 5 7 is more than 5. The 4 is rounded up to 5. 5,5 0 0
