Homework: Write two sentences using conjuctions.

Coordinating conjunctions join words in a sentence or independent clauses. Three common conjunctions are “and,” “but,” and “or.” Using conjunctions creates compound structures.

A preposition relates a noun or pronoun to another word in a sentence. An adverb is a word that describes a verb, adjective, or another adverb. They can tell how, when, or where an action takes place. Sometimes, the same word can be an adverb in one sentence and a preposition in another. Examples: preposition: adverb:

The boy walked down the road. The rain fell down.

The past participle is a verb form made by adding “-ed” to the base of a regular verb. It can be used as an adjective or to form verb tenses. Example: to cook and to serve The cooked meat has been served.

Verb tenses are used to express the time an action happens. All verbs used in a sentence must be in the same tense, and all time references must agree with the verb. incorrect: She walked out of her house and pets the goat.

An opinion is what someone thinks or feels about something. A reason is why a person thinks that way. An opinion text begins with a topic sentence, has detail sentences, and ends with a concluding statement.
