Hair Care Tips :
I
Natural Afro Hair
f you are making the transition from relaxing your hair to going natural, you probably noticed your hair care routine needs adjusting. Your old hair products don’t seem to have the same effect as before. You also probably feel that your hair no longer grows. Discover natural hair care tips that will address these common issues and allow you to better manage your natural hair. You Will Need to Adjust Your Hair Care Products For some reason we believe that natural hair requires more hair products to make it manageable. This is not true. Your ultra-curly afro hair requires fewer products than your relaxed hair did. Your main hair care products needed are: Sulfate-free shampoo: less harsh on hair and strips away less moisture. Moisturizing conditioner: helps replenish moisture and softens hair for styling.
Hair oil: for use as a hot oil treatment, scalp oil and hair oil (applied to dry hair). Leave-in spray conditioner: helps detangle hair and refresh hair between washings. Shampoo Less, Wash More
Advising to shampoo less and wash more probably does not make much sense. For most of our lives, it has been drilled into our heads that shampoo is the only way to wash our hair. Shampoo is meant to remove excess oil and styling product from the hair. However, we can also wash our hair by rinsing it with water and, if needed, using a cheap conditioner to aid in the washing. For natural afro hair, washing frequently with just water helps the hair retain moisture and helps define our curl pattern naturally. Shampoo hair once to twice a week and wash/rinse with water every other day. 6 6
Do Not Wear Hair out Everyday Unless you plan on keeping your hair cut and styled into a short fro, chances are you want your natural hair to grow. Our hair grows; it can’t help it. However, a lot of the time we don’t see added length because our hair is breaking off. Another hindrance to seeing added length is that natural afro hair tends to knot at the ends when worn out. Unfortunately, the only way to remove hair knots is to cut them out. If your hair is constantly breaking and being cut, how can you expect to see added length? Between washings, style your hair in a way that keeps the ends tucked in. A braided bun, hair twists, a regular bun (if you hair is long enough for it) and braids are all ways to keep the hair secured, minimizing breakage and knots. You can also wear a hair set, such as the twisted knot set , between washings or shampoos. This is when hair accessories will become your best friend. Scrunchies, barrettes, and bobby pins are just a few hair accessories that can help. Keep Hair Covered at Bedtime
Another cause of hair breakage is friction. Hair friction happens most while we sleep. Our heads are moving on our pillowcases, causing our hair to rub on the fabric, creating friction. Not to mention that pillowcases, especially cotton ones, absorb oil and can make natural afro hair drier. Always tie a silk or silky scarf around your head before bedtime. The scarf will lessen friction and won’t rob the hair of oil. These tips for common hair issues faced when we go from relaxed to natural are not huge obstacles. However, we do need to keep up with our hair maintenance and healthy practices to make sure our hair is in good condition and continues to grow. Just stick to it and you will find it easier to manage your natural afro hair as time goes

Talk’n Apparel
Officially Launched In Accra
T
alk’n Apparel was born in the latter part of 2012 after realizing where my passion lies. It started as a one-woman business and steadily graduated to a stage which required the help of other talents to cater to the rapid ascent in our client numbers. Watching my aunt day in day out, sitting behind the hand machine and winding relentlessly got my curiosity growing in leaps and bounds with me trying to phantom how any fabric without shape or form could mutate into an elegant dress or bubbly skirt. To borrow the definition of one famous fashionista; Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is something in the air. It’s the wind that blows in the new fashion; you feel it coming, you smell it in the sky, in the street. Fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening…. This got me to go back to school after my first degree to study fashion and I have not regretted this move, not one day since. The satisfied look on the faces of my clients after they have tried on a garment I made is what gives me the greatest joy. Talk’n Apparel is a fashion 8
outfit specifically dedicated to style you at your convenience.
“Our mission is to pick and deliver any design and style it to your choice wherever you may be.’’
W
e have the client’s interest at heart and aim to deliver at the earliest. Purchasing fabric to make your clothing is not a chore at all. We are totally engulfed by this and aim to please. It does not matter what size you are, because we at Talk’n Apparel believe we only have one body, hence, love the one you’re in. To my fellow fashion designers and those yet to get on board, stand tall and proud, sink your roots deep into the earth like a tree, be content with your natural beauty and God given talent, go out on a limb in all you decide to do, never forget your roots and enjoy the view. Quitting my job to start my own fashion outfit was not easy but these quotes helped me through in spite of the discouragements I was faced with. Work for a cause not for applause, live life to express not to impress, do not strive to make your presence
noticed just make your absence felt. We would be holding our next exhibition at the African Regent Hotel in September 2014 and would keep you posted. Credits: (CEO) Talk’n Apparel Rhodalin Boatemaa Doudu

a healthy life with diabetes
I
n Ghana, Diabetes in the young is falsely thought not to exist even amongst medical personnel, this has resulted in missed diagnosed with poor management of young people with diabetes. After working in Korle Bu Teaching hospital and later moving to Effia Nkwanta Regional hospital in Western Region after my post graduate training I realised the gap in managing young ones living with diabetes. These young ones once older than 13 were placed in adult diabetes clinics and had to attend the clinics with the adults much to their displeasure. Their needs are different from those of adults so a lot of them ended up in defaulting in attending the clinics resulting in ill health and missed school days and may ultimately lead to their demise. In October 2012 a support group was started with 10 young ones under the age of 30, and this number has gradually grown to more than 30. The main aim of this group is to provide support for those living with diabetes and also support for their families. Diabetes care is expensive and not fully covered under the health insurance, so it tends to be a financial drain on the families and also this results in the young ones not fulfilling and pursuing their needs. Currently with the use on the internet, a lot of information and awareness about diabetes in the young is being spread and Diabetes Youth Care (DYC) now aims at providing social and medical support to all young Ghanaians living with diabetes.
Support and encouragement from each other goes a long way to encourage them and their families not to give up. Having to inject oneself daily with insulin for the rest of their lives is not an easy feat and so all the help is required to support them to live up to their potential. Diabetes Youth Care will be in every region of the country hopefully by the end of the year 2014 and we need all the support we can get to take care of our young ones, it is a responsibility we can not ignore. Donation can be in many forms from either sponsoring a child’s education or medical supplies such as glucose test strips and syringes. a. One time donation b. f you’re currently single, there’s somewhere at this very minute, a GOOD man who’s heart could ‘belong’ to you.
A man who needs the attention, appreciation, kindness, understanding, tenderness, etc. that YOU could give him. He’s out there somewhere! But whether or not you’ll ever find each other, fall in love and marry depends not so much on fate, where you live, how feminine and seductive you are.... It depends MORE on the whole collection of personal; Inner feelings, Thoughts, Ideas, Attitudes and Tastes. Your individual ways of behaving and relating others makes you the truly special and UNIQUE woman you are. I’m sure that many of you have considered the vital importance of COMPATIBILITY in a relationship. Nevertheless, there are still many women (and men,) who are getting together with partners who are not only unsuitable in many aspects, but who are barely compatible with them. The fact is, there are many couples who would be crazy to seriously consider commitment or marriage - no matter how strong the physical attraction is between them! How many relationships and marriages end up in ruins these days, mainly because of being mismatched, and having ‘irreconcilable differences?’ Not every couple is compatible enough to reach the understanding, empathy or flexibility to meet each other’s needs. Moreover, not everybody has the willingness to examine and change themselves to the extent that they can put aside their own needs (from time to time,) and find satisfaction in meeting somebody else’s needs. In a relationship or marriage, being well-suited to your man, and being able to meet each other’s needs, is an emotional necessity. In thinking about it afterward, countless couples have come to the realization just how incompatible they really were with the ex. The following questions will help you to gain a clearer understanding of what those needs are (feel free to recommend this page to your gal pals. Secrets To
Financial
Happiness Money, we’re told from an early age, cannot buy happiness. Think Ebenezer Scrooge, who was rolling in dough yet miserable. And we’ve all heard stories about lottery winners whose windfalls seem to bring misfortune, not to mention celebrities for whom affluence enables selfdestruction. There’s just one problem with these anecdotes: They are, well, anecdotal. In a world of 7 billion people (and that doesn’t include the fictional ones), you can find stories to support any theory imaginable. The fact is, stripped of drama and moralizing, money is essentially a means of exchange. It can lead to trouble, sure, but it can also pay your electricity bills, tuition at good schools for your children or airfare for that vacation you always wanted. In short, you can buy misery or you can buy happiness. What makes the difference is spending your money right. The Key to Using Money Well Change the way you think about it. Stop viewing money as evil or soulless, or interesting only in terms of how your pile measures up against your neighbor’s. Instead, you need to think of money as a tool. As a means to acquiring, doing, and taking care of things that bring you joy.
All of that sounds easy enough. But how do you adopt this mindset?
to that third Premise of Wealth: Your goals should be whatever you want them to be.
The Three Premises of Wealth
You don’t have to buy a house that consumes 25 to 35 percent of your income. You might be happier living in a far more modest home and traveling the world with the money you save on housing.
The happiest people operate under what the Three Premises of Wealth: The First Premise of Wealth: I have enough. There are people who have more, but also plenty who have less. The Second Premise of Wealth: If I want more money than I have now in order to achieve big goals, I can figure out a way to get it. The Third Premise of Wealth: Every cedi is a choice. How I earn it and spend it is up to me. These are simple notions, but they provide a vantage point that’s markedly different from the way many of us approach money. Human happiness is — like it or not — partly based on how we stack up against a certain reference group. We feel rich if we have a bigger house or nicer car than our neighbors. But nothing forces us to think along those lines: We can choose any reference group we want. Setting Your Own Goals What should those goals be? Financial planners tout the obvious — home ownership, a secure retirement, the children’s college funds — and these are fine goals if they’re truly what you want. But this brings me
Maybe you want to build financial security not with an eye toward retiring at 65, but so you can do any kind of work you choose. For some, this is the biggest goal of all. In fact, the happiest people I know have found work they love so much they’d do it for free — then figured out a way to get paid for their avocation. Rather than maintaining a conventional fixation on retirement, why not put that same mental energy into finding the kind of work you’ll never want to retire from? The point is this: Happy people know that how we spend our money, just as how we spend our time, is a choice. Money can buy happiness when we tell it what to do. Truly wealthy people think of money as a tool — and, fortunately, you can learn to think the same way, even if you don’t have all the money in the world.

6 Clever Tips
To Transform Your
Home
Whether you’ve just moved or are looking for a quick, little home pick-me-up, or perhaps something more significant, there are some well-known interior design tricks that designers employ that you too can easily do with minimal effort and cost. Sometimes the smallest things make the greatest impact. It could be the addition of a mirror, a painting, a lamp or even a plant. Maybe you want to soften your walls, brighten a room, or add some warmth to your living space. Take a look at these clever design tips and see how they can inspire you! 1. Paint smaller rooms in softer, lighter colors to help make the room feel larger. The living room above is a great example of how to maximize a small living space. A room of this size has the tendency to seem cramped, but the large windows, light colored walls and ample use of mirrors not only reflect the natural light pouring in from the doors and the windows but the use of mirrors also gives the optical illusion of space, making the room seem larger than it actually is. Conversely, darker colors will make a room feel smaller. Even with the abundance of natural light and the strategic placement of the mirrors, this room in a darker shade would have a more boxed-in feel to it. 2. Use decorative mirrors to add instant light to your living space. As seen above, mirrors can also be used to make a small space feel larger. For larger rooms, or any room with a more limited amount of natural light, mirrors placed directly across from the windows, will add instant light. Decorative mirrors can also be used in lieu of art to fill empty wall space. Large or small, mirrors add light and dimension to your living space. 3. Mix it up. Mix up patterns and textures. Mix up old and new, expensive and inexpensive. There’s nothing wrong with placing family heirlooms alongside your modern couch. All good interior decorators will tell you that the most important aspect to decorating your home is that it reflects who you are, your personality and your style. The antique Chippendale desk that was your grandfather’s tells a story. It tells the story of your past. The modern couch you fell in love with and simply had to purchase also tells 22 22
a story, your present story, and there is no reason why the present and past can’t co-exist beautifully together. The same can be said for art. Now you might not want to place a painting by Salvador Dali on the same wall next to a Monet, but there’s no reason why they can’t be in the same room together. With fabrics whether it be furniture, rugs or pillows, varied colors and patterns can bring warmth and texture into your living space. 4. Slip into something a little more comfortable! Slip covers often get a bad rap but they are truly wonderful things. They can serve as a means of changing your furniture’s look to reflect the seasons. These easily removed coverings allow you to have a sophisticated look without constantly worrying about people dirtying or spilling on your furniture. Slip covers are ideal for rooms used frequently by children. Above the white slip-covered couches gives the air of a casual, comfortable, easy yet sophisticated elegance. 5. Use what you already have to decorate. We all have items in our possession, probably packed up in boxes somewhere and haven’t given them a second glance. Your home needs some accessories. Instead of running to the store, take a good look at what you already have. Trays, wooden, acrylic, metal or silver can be placed on top of luggage racks, tea carts, trunks, bedside tables and coffee tables for extra texture and dimension. Arrange candles on them, frames or pile books on top of them. Plates can be hung to create wonderful wall art. Art from children’s books can be framed and hung in nurseries, children’s rooms or their bathrooms. You will be amazed at what you can do with what you already have! 6. Go green. Add plants to your living space. Add them to every room, small or large, few or many. Plants are an inexpensive means to accessorizing your space and adding color and texture. Not only are plants beautiful but many can clean household air and balance humidity. They can absorb pollutants and remove harmful gases from the air. No home should be without these wonderful greens!

Live 20 Dreams ways to your
You are here on this earth to thrive and live your dreams. The key is to first understand the mechanics of reality and then choose to take charge of your life. This means being aware of your thoughts, words, and actions and consciously choosing language and an attitude that support your success. And it means putting yourself in a position to receive all the good fortune available to you. Once you prepare yourself and open the floodgates wide, good things will flow into your life. Here are 20 ways to claim your dreams and your destiny now. your journey.
1
Step onto Your Path
Follow your heart. Be true to yourself, and ask yourself often what it is you want to be doing, as opposed to what it is you should be doing.
2 3 4
Make Balanced Choices
Use your head. But use it wisely. Let there be a mix of logic and heart in all you do.
See What’s Possible
Visualize. Call upon the power of your imagination to see your dreams as real, viable, and already a reality
One Step at a Time
Take baby steps. The secret here is that while baby steps may not carry you a long distance, they stir up magic and opportunities along the way.
5
Get Ready for Success
Prepare the way for your inevitable success. Not just for the obvious reasons, but for the optimism, anticipation, and expectation such preparation invokes. This sends a message out into the world around you that will literally summon the resources you need to complete
24 24
6
Face Your Fears
Don’t be afraid to go where you’ve never gone. Once you’ve committed and set your course, previously invisible “lions and tigers and bears” will suddenly emerge onto the scene. This is by design -- we are lured by our dreams to face our challenges. By doing this we grow and become more of what we are meant to be. It is important to remember, you and your dream are bigger than your fears.
7
Fate It Until You Make It
Splurge, celebrate, and buy those red shoes you have always wanted. Pretend. Act as if. Indulge to the degree you can. Not only is this fun for obvious reasons, but it helps to re-circuit your thinking into that of “having arrived,” instead of feeling like your life is perpetually on hold. This new thinking will help install new beliefs and support new behaviors that literally bring about miracles.
8
Circulate and Show Up in the World Get out more. Be a part
of the world. Network. Dance life’s dance. Life’s already good. You just have to get out there and see it for yourself. When we “show up,” life rolls out a red carpet of possibilities and opportunities. 9.Reclaim Your Power Cast no blame or fault. Don’t look for someone else to pin your problems on. Accepting responsibility for your life puts you on the fast track to claiming your power.
10
Take Stock of Your Life
Appreciate everything you already have. You’ve done well for yourself, and by seeing this now you’ll not only begin to savor your accomplishments, you’ll also be reminded of your capabilities.
11
Be the Change
You know the saying “Be the change you want to see in the world.” Give thanks for everything you will one day have, as if it is already yours. It’s established by mainstream science that the mind helps us create what we want in life by visualizing and imagining it
s
already exists.
12
Give Yourself a Hug
Love who you already are. Even if you seek to understand your weaknesses, seek and value your strengths. See what’s already good; let your confidence be bolstered. Then, not only will your socalled weaknesses be seen in perspective, but the love affair you have with yourself can begin, and your sense of worthiness for all you desire will be seeded.
13
Judge Not
Don’t judge your progress through your physical senses alone. The mechanics of making dreams come true exist far beyond what we can physically detect, so just because you can’t see the wonderful serendipities, coincidences, and people who are all being lined up to further your desires doesn’t mean they’re not there! Don’t assume a dream won’t come true just because it hasn’t yet.
14
Lend a Hand
Help others to achieve their dreams. Lending a hand to others is both a good deed and a way to stay connected to the actions involved with success. Also, it gets you out, thinking, moving and grooving, making friends, and having fun, all while radically improving your own chances of living with wild success.
15
Learn the Greatest Secret of Happiness
Learn to be happy before your dreams come true. There will always be things you want in your life that you do not yet
have. The trick, then, is seeing this and learning to be happy “in the pursuit,” rather than indefinitely putting off happiness until you’ve reached a goal. And remember, every time you do make a dream come true, you can start working on a new one.
16
Tune In to You
Honor your preferences. You are oneof-a-kind, and so are the things that thrill you. What makes one person happy may have little to do with what makes another happy. Tune in to what you like, and be unaffected with what others prefer for themselves--or what others prefer for you.
17
Keep Your Door Open
It is literally impossible to know where your next great break will come from or to predict the new “partner” who will be your greatest helper and ally. Yet they will come and they do exist. If you believe success can only come through a specific path or person, you will unwittingly eliminate all other possibilities. Eliminate stress by surrendering to the highest good. Leaving the door open can invite new possibilities.
18
dreams coming true is an important tool for creating a new reality, but trying to control every detail of that dream will drive you crazy. Ease up on the rules, definitions, and details, and let life surprise you.
20
Be Your Own Best Friend
Be gentle on yourself. Friends coach, care, and inspire. Enemies detract, destabilize, and set back. Happily, you get to choose which you’ll be to yourself. Live your dreams today to any degree that you can. Nothing shouts out louder to the world (and to yourself), “Here I come, ready or not!” than the conscious decision to begin joyfully living, here and now. Don’t put off, for even one more day, the dreams you can now live. Give yourself the three-day weekend, leave work early for the matinee movie, or throw the dinner party you’ve wanted to be invited to, and watch how the world responds in kind. Credits : By Mike Dooley
Be Playful and Practice Success
Practice becoming who you are meant to be. Speak among your very closest friends as if you’ve already “been there, done that.” Thoughts become things. By thinking and speaking thoughts that imply you’ve already been successful, you create the mold for that very success.
19
Focus on What Is Most Important
Don’t get stuck on unimportant details or trying to control how success comes your way. Visualizing your

My Responsibility?
Really?
I have recently been confronted several times about the idea that getting pregnant is the sole responsibility of the woman. Now before you throw yourself into a full blown outrage like, this is the first time I ever heard that statement, please take a minute to read my thoughts on this issue. It is important to know that my circle of friends is educated to mostly the highest levels in their respective fields; not that education is a prerequisite for common sense and intelligence. Even though education helps to acquire knowledge and sharpens critical thinking skills. Anyway, back to the topic at hand: does pregnancy rest squarely on the woman’s shoulders? A good friend got pregnant a couple of years ago. She hesitantly told her boyfriend who got very upset and blamed her for getting him in such “entanglements”. According to the boyfriend, he has nothing to do with it because she should know her body well enough to know when she is “safe” or not. Basically he wasn’t ready to be a father and did not care what she did with the pregnancy. It was her fault and not his. Now though I am a big proponent of 50-50 responsibility, unfortunately, I can understand what this boyfriend is saying albeit disagreeing with his rationale. As 21st century women, we are responsible for our bodies. We are responsible for what goes into our bodies. We are also responsible for keeping our bodies healthy and strong. Who else can do that for us? In the same way, we are responsible for our sexuality. We are responsible for the who what where and how we conduct sexual acts. Irrespective of religion and or beliefs regarding sex, we are liable for what is done with our bodies except in the disgusting acts of rape and sexual abuse. In my opinion, a sexual act should only occur between two consenting adults. This means that
26 26
these adults know the consequences of unprotected sex and have discussed the possibilities of pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases and infections. Both partners should be tested even before engaging in sexual acts such as vaginal, oral or anal sex. Married or not, nobody should ever be pressured by another person into doing something they are not comfortable doing. Sex should be a mutual agreement period. This piece is not to discuss birth control in detail but to touch on a few resources. It is best to speak to your health provider before deciding on an appropriate birth control method especially with women over a certain age. In as much as abstinence is the only foolproof method out there, who are we kidding, let’s not be naïve. So then, faithfulness to your partner, but then how do you know if your partner is being faithful to you as well? Ok, moving on to male condoms as the next best thing after sliced bread. Condoms are great as long as they don’t break – which is usually rare with good quality ones. Most women buy their own condoms nowadays. Another method that comes to mind is the oldfashioned “calendar method” – which I am totally against due to its failed outcomes. Still for birth control, you can choose from the pill, injections, intrauterine devices, etc. but note that these do not protect from sexually transmitted infections.
Women should know that all these methods are available to them for their own protection. Abortions are not a form of birth control and may cause physical, spiritual and emotional distress to the woman. The most important favor you can do yourself is to take responsibility of your sexuality and take steps to ensure protection of your body.

any of us are less aware of the impact boosting our activity levels can have to our overall health. If you’re not sure about becoming active or boosting your level of physical activity because you’re afraid of getting hurt, the good news is that moderate-intensity aerobic activity, like these steps, are generally safe for most people. Start slowly. Cardiac events, such as a heart attack, are rare during physical activity. But the risk does go up when you suddenly become much more active than usual. For example, you can put yourself at risk if you don’t usually get much physical activity and then all of a sudden do vigorous-intensity aerobic activity, like shoveling snow. That’s why it’s important to start slowly and gradually increase your level of activity. The bottom line is - the health benefits of physical activity far outweigh the risks of getting hurt. 28 28

The Gift of Love T
he passengers on the bus watched sympathetically as the attractive young woman with the white cane made her way carefully up the steps. She paid the driver and, using her hands to feel the location of the seats, walked down the aisle and found the seat he’d told her was empty. Then she settled in, placed her briefcase on her lap and rested her cane against her leg. It had been a year since Susan, 34, became blind. Due to a medical misdiagnosis she had been rendered sightless, and she was suddenly thrown into a world of darkness, anger, frustration and self-pity. And all she had to cling to was her husband, Mark. Mark was an Air Force officer and he loved Susan with all his heart. When she first lost her sight, he watched her sink into despair and was determined to help his wife gain the strength and confidence she needed to become independent again. Finally, Susan felt ready to return to her job, but how would she get there? She used to take the bus, but was now too frightened to get around the city by herself. Mark volunteered to drive her to work each day, even though they worked at opposite ends of the city. At first, this comforted Susan, and fulfilled Mark’s need to protect his sightless wife who was so insecure about performing the slightest task. Soon, however, Mark realized the arrangement wasn’t working. Susan
is going to have to start taking the bus again, he admitted to himself. But she was still so fragile, so angryhow would she react? Just as he predicted, Susan was horrified at the idea of taking the bus again. “I’m blind,” she responded bitterly. “How am I supposed to know where I am going? I feel like you’re abandoning me.” Mark’s heart broke to hear these words, but he knew what had to be done. He promised Susan that each morning and evening he would ride the bus with her, for as long as it took, until she got the hang of it. And that is exactly what happened. For two solid weeks, Mark, military uniform and all, accompanied Susan to and from work each day. He taught her how to rely on her other senses, specifically her hearing, to determine where she was and how to adapt her new environment. He helped her befriend the bus drivers who could watch out for her, and save her a seat.
Finally, Susan decided that she was ready to try the trip on her own. Monday morning arrived, and before she left, she threw her arms around Mark, her temporary bus-riding companion, her husband, and her best friend. Her eyes filled with tears of gratitude for his loyalty, his patience, and his love. She said good-bye, and for the first time, they went their separate ways. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday… Each day on her own went perfectly, and Susan had never
felt better. She was doing it! She was going to work all by herself. On Friday morning, Susan took the bus to work as usual. As she was paying the fare to exit the bus, the driver said, “Boy, I sure do envy you.” Susan wasn’t sure if the driver was speaking to her or not. After all, who on earth would ever envy a blind woman who had struggled just to find the courage to live for the past year?
Curious, she asked the driver, “Why do you say that you envy me?” The driver responded, “It must feel good to be taken care of and protected like you are.” Susan had no idea what the driver was talking about, and again asked, “What do you mean?” The driver answered, “You know, every morning for the past week, a fine-looking gentleman in a military uniform has been standing across the corner watching you as you get off the bus. He makes sure you cross the street safely and he watches until you enter your office building. Then he blows you a kiss, gives you a little salute and walks away. You are one lucky lady.” Tears of happiness poured down Susan’s cheeks. Although she couldn’t physically see him, she had always felt Mark’s presence. She was lucky, so lucky, for he had given her a gift more powerful than sight, a gift she didn’t need to see to believe-the gift of love that can bring light where there is darkness. 31

Potato Salad Potato salad is a dish made from boiled potatoes, the versions of which vary throughout different regions and countries of the world. Although called a salad, it is generally considered a side dish, as it usually accompanies the main course. Potato salad is often served with barbecue, roasts, hot dogs, fried chicken, hamburgers and cold sandwiches. It is generally considered casual fare, and as such is typically served at picnics, outdoor barbecues, potlucks and other casual meals and events.

Instructions
1. Wash the potatoes, than cut them into halves and place in a pan of water. Boil the potatoes until you can pierce them with a little resistance. 2. Strain the potatoes.
