“In our longstanding relationship, we have continued to maintain a close relationship with all the members of Plant Planet. Over the years they have helped strengthen our industry presence and have shone visibility on all of GGR Group’s advancements in specialised plant and across the construction industry. We look forward to many more years of partnership with the team.”
Lisa Collins, Communications Consultant to the Construction Plant-hire Association (CPA) said: “We have worked closely with the Plant Planet team for several years now and the whole team is very supportive of CPA events such as the CPA Conference and the Stars of the Future apprentice and trainee awards. We supply regular feature articles to Plant Planet and this gives us a great opportunity to get our message across to key stakeholders in the plant-hire sector. Thank you Plant Planet and we look forward to continuing to work with you moving forward.”

“It has been a pleasure working with Plant Planet, they are professional, accommodating and very flexible. I have no doubt I will continue to work with them in the future.”

remium quality at attractive prices. This was the motto Goldhofer chose for the launch of its successful »STARLINE« family of vehicles. Today the »STEPSTAR« range comprises an impressive and growing variety of semi-trailers. Today, »STEPSTAR« semitrailers are available with 3 to 6 axle lines and payloads of up to 84 t. The Goldhofer »STARLINE« offers a choice of loading lengths with single or double extenders or the optional »MEGA« gooseneck for optimum utilization of the entire vehicle length as a loading area, e.g. for transporting containers. Also, these semitrailers are available with one or two pairs of wheel recesses in the loading area for trans-porting high construction machines. The platform model offers one- or two-piece ramps with an extremely low load angle for loading low-floor vehicles, a long and wide excavator boom recess
in an open design to carry big excavator booms. All »STEPSTAR« models offer a high degree of safety and make life easier for the driver. Various materials are available for the deck, such as sheet steel with anti-slip coating, wood or the low-wear »TraffideckGO« polymer flooring codeveloped by Goldhofer. This not only saves weight but also reduces loading height and has an outstanding coefficient of friction compared to conventional wooden or rubber flooring. It also ensures maximum safety during loading and on the road. “The »STEPSTAR« is the perfect response to our customers’ expectations: top quality plus intelligent details at competitive prices. Many customers particularly appreciate the fact that the 3-axle vehicles can be used for permitfree transport throughout Europe with payloads of up to 26.3 t and a gross com-bination length of 16.5 m,” says Marco Ceresa, Regional Sales Manager

NEW DEMOLITION PRODUCTS LAUNCHED AT PLANTWORX
GOLDHOFER »STARLINE« FLEXIBILITY FOR UNIVERSAL APPLICATIONS
A
t Plantworx 2023, Worsley Plant showcased their biggest ever range of attachments on their stand, worth over £2million. Montabert took centre stage this year, but the UK attachment specialist had some great new products from Rotar and a new supplier in Oilquick. In the Demo area Worsley were also showcasing the latest addition to the range – the Oilquick Quickcoupler– changing between a range of attachment from Worsley’s other suppliers – MB, Dynaset, Remu and Rotar. OilQuick is an automatic quick coupler system for excavators, which allows hydraulic work tools to be connected and disconnected from the driver’s cab. The operator can change between various work tools within a few seconds, such
for Italy. The vehicles can also be fitted with the »CARGOPLUS®« low-profile tires developed by Goldhofer, which offer the twin advantages of higher payloads and lower loading heights. »CARGOPLUS®« 60 supports axle loads of 10 tons compared with 8 tons with 205 tires, while »CARGOPLUS®« 80 corresponds to 245 tires and delivers a 75 mm reduction in loading height for the same axle load. This translates into the ability to move taller and heavier construction machinery, which in turn means greater versatility, more flexibility and fewer detours due to height restrictions on the route.

as a hydraulic hammer, steel or concrete shears, sorting grapple, hydraulic magnet, compactor, sorting bucket, tilt bucket or tiltrotator. Rotar had two new pieces of kit on the stand. The RG55 Grab was launched at Bauma and shown in the UK for the first time. It weighs 3,200 kilos and is suitable for 45 to 55 ton excavators. The RG55 on the stand, was featured with the new integrated head for the Lehnhoff VL400 – the first one ever delivered, ordered by AW Demolition. This Fully Intergrated Quickcoupler features a unique design and was shortlisted for the Plantworx Innovation Awards. The second Rotar launch was the RSS10, the smallest scrap shear in the RSS range, weighing just 1290 tons ideal

for boom mounted excavators from 9 to 13 ton and stick mounted from 12 to 19 ton, and developed due to customer demand to complete the Rotar range of RSS Shears. Juliet Perrett, Marketing & PR Manger said: “We had our biggest ever Plantworx this year. It’s good to be back at the show. It’s always one of the key fixtures on our event calendar. “We had great support from our suppliers, had some fantastic customers on the stand, rung our ‘sales bell’ quite a few times, and met some great contacts to follow up with. “We even ran our first ever competition to win a Montabert Breaker. It was also great to be able to launch two new products from Rotar for the first time in the UK.”

Delegate tickets can now be booked online for this year’s Construction Plant-hire Association (CPA) Conference which will take place on Thursday 9th November 2023 at the Heart of England Conference and Events Centre in Fillongley, near Coventry. The theme is ‘Facing the Challenges in the Planthire Sector’, allowing the CPA to address some of the core issues that are of most importance to companies right now, such as the rising cost of fuel and energy, theft and fraud within the industry, and how different sectors within the plant-hire industry itself, are adapting to the new economic reality of the post-COVID age. The CPA is in the process of devising a packed, topical agenda with panel debates to allow delegates to come away with a deeper understanding as to how you can tackle some of the challenges you currently face. This year’s panel debates will be steered by event convenor Merryn Myatt, a former BBC news presenter and journalist who has hosted previous CPA Conferences to great success. Simply visit www.cpa.uk.net/events/cpaconference-2023 to reserve your tickets. The standard ticket price is £75 plus VAT per person. The Conference will run alongside a small, targeted exhibition and there has been such interest in the event that a number of exhibitors were already confirmed by the time Plant Planet went to press. The event will be held in association with headline sponsor Point of Rental Software and exhibitors will include Genquip Groundhog, Thomas Group, Nexus Vehicle Rental, Plant Planet, Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA), Capja, MHM Group, Tobin Plant/LiuGong Machinery (UK), NOCN Group, Prolectric and CITB. A limited number of exhibition spaces are remaining.

KATIE KELLEHER JOINS THE CPA TEAM Katie Kelleher has joined the Construction Plant-hire Association (CPA) in the newly created role of CPA Technical and Development Officer. In her new role, she will provide CPA Members with guidance and advice on technical, training and safety subjects, as well as help produce and maintain the CPA’s large range of safety and technical publications. She will also help represent the CPA on a number of industry-led initiatives and working groups, and liaise directly with Members, official bodies and other organisations. Katie joins the CPA – the leading trade association for the plant-hire sector in the UK with over 1,900 members who supply some 85% of hired plant to the construction and allied industries – from Select Plant Hire where she worked for the past eight years. Her construction story started in 2014 when she was the first woman to commence the Lifting Technician Apprenticeship with Select Plant Hire, before becoming a Crane Operator working on large projects such as Crossrail and the Tideway Project. More recently, she worked as an Appointed Person on a number of high-profile infrastructure projects. Prior to commencing her career in construction, Katie worked in a variety of roles across sales and recruitment before embarking on a change in career. She is well known throughout the construction industry for being a champion for women and young people working in construction, and is a passionate and active speaker about apprenticeships and the workforce. She has sat on government boards such as the Strategic Transport Apprenticeship Taskforce and has recently joined the City Of London Skills for a Sustainable Skyline Taskforce to ensure the future pipeline of the built environment. Katie first became acquainted with the CPA when she was a panellist at the CPA’s Annual Conference and she has been a judge for the CPA’s Stars of the Future Apprentice Awards for several years. Katie has already won many accolades in her career so far. In 2021 she was declared one of the Top 100 Women in Construction and she has been selected as a ‘LinkedIn Top Voice’. In 2019 she was in the ‘Construction News 15 People to Watch’ list. Katie said: “I am very excited to join the CPA in the role of Technical and Development Officer and I truly believe I can be of value to the CPA and its members. I am looking forward to making a noticeable difference within the sector and helping take the association to the next level.” CPA Chief Executive Kevin Minton added: “We are delighted that Katie has joined the CPA and we warmly welcome her to the Association. SIMON TOMBLIN: 20 YEARS SINCE ROCKET LAUNCH
37
“WE’RE A CLOSE KNIT TEAM WHO CARES, AND GENUINELY LOVES WHAT WE DO, AND THAT DEDICATION SHINES THROUGH TO OUR CUSTOMERS.”
imon Tomblin is waiting patiently for our meeting to commence. Meanwhile, technology (my technology I should add) decides it wants to be techy, and when we finally connect, Simon is sat calmly at his desk without any hint of frustration. The phrase you ‘can fly to the moon’ (but you can’t get a decent internet connection) is springing to mind, which brings a smile to my face, as I realise, I am interviewing the original Rocket man; the Founder and Managing Director of Rocket Rentals! It is 20 years since Rocket Rentals was launched. It’s a great name, so I ask about the inspiration behind it. Simon reflects: “Plans were in place to start the new business, but I was struggling to come up with a company name. I wanted a memorable business name, nothing dull! I was with my mother and stepfather; we were stuck at an airport, on our way back from Bauma in 2001. There were a few of us, floating all sorts of weird and wonderful suggestions. It was my mother, who in the end, said, “well, what you do isn’t rocket science”.
88
The penny instantly dropped. Cue Rocket Rentals!” So, Rocket Rentals Ltd was formed in Gloucester and I’m amused to learn that the business address is no other than, Area 51 named after Nevada’s mysterious “Extra-terrestrial Highway” linked to all sorts of conspiracy theories. (Very quickly, I realise that Simon has a real sense of humour!) “It was a bit of fun really. What better address for Rocket Rentals to have than Area 51? Mind you, it took a lot of persuading the Post Office to register the address. You’d be amazed what hoops we had to jump through, especially as we have now taken it to our new premises,” laughs Simon. Simon explains how the business started out in a modest way, but has grown so much over the years. Despite growth, it remains a familyowned business providing plant, access and tool hire services to customers in Gloucestershire, Bristol, Oxford and Swindon. Rocket Rentals moved to new premises about 7 years ago, and in recent years, opened separate premises dedicated to tool hire on a nearby industrial estate. It’s become a respected and well-known business in the area, with many loyal

Since the launch of Kovaco UK Limited in 2020, we have had the pleasure of working with demolition companies that have acquired a number of our fully electric Skid Steer Loaders to kick start the ‘go green incentive’ within the Plant Machinery Industry. In 2020, Harold Allen at Aitch Demolition was the first demolition company, based in Watford, to acquire one Elise 900 Skid Steer Loader with a full demolition and extended battery specification as well as one Mini Z 400 Skid Steer Compact Loader. They have hired out these fully electric machines into highly intensive demolition projects which have achieved a full eight-hour work day on a five-hour charge time. Since then, they have acquired a further three Elise 900 Skid Steer Loaders and four Mini Z 400
Skid Steer Compact Loaders; Aitch Demolition are enjoying operating and hiring out these machines to their customers. Most recently, George Beattie & Sons Ltd based in Glasgow, Scotland, have acquired their first Mini Z 400 Compact Loader with a basic bucket, pallet forks and a grapple bucket which they are putting to work on a 14 week demolition project in Edinburgh city centre. We are looking forward to expanding our fully electric machines into the Plant Industry and seeing more of their capability. We appreciate our customers who believe in our ethos and have a common goal to be more environmentally friendly.

Why MRD Plant Ltd would recommend Sheppex MRD Plant is a thriving business based in Leicestershire, providing nationwide services to the recycling, construction, quarrying & mining sector. When MRD owner Tom Chapman enquired about financing the latest in ALLU Transformer technology, we responded quickly. Tom was looking to finance an Allu DH3-17 and an Allu DN3-17 crushing bucket, supplied by Blue Machinery Ltd, to add flexibility and expand the range of services offered by MRD Plant. Says Tom, “I was recommended to talk to Sheppex about business finance by one of their existing customers who had been very impressed with their service. “I have experience working with other lenders, but am more than impressed with Sheppex. The loan process was very straightforward, and after looking at the machines I needed, Sheppex provided what I believe are the best rates and terms possible. “It’s the type of service from a finance specialist that I was hoping for when looking for finance. Jonathan was very proactive and always two steps ahead, making it easy for me to select the right finance package. “I know a good deal when I see one and working with Sheppex meant I did not need to shop around. Sheppex provides good service, and the next time I am looking for finance, I will talk to them first.”
