The TomTom GO 500 can be mounted to your windshield by means of a plastic dock whose ball knob allows the driver to adjust the angle of the display. Due to the dock’s magnetic connector, the device can easily be removed from or placed back into the dock.

The GO 500′s 5-inch capacitive touchscreen is highly responsive to user input and responds to commands at a noticeably faster speed than previous TomTom models.

Spoken driving instructions, which now include street names, are delivered through a built-in speaker on the back of the device. The volume is sufficient that directions can be heard loudly and clearly.

On TomTom’s new interface, all of the GO 500′s features revolve around the main map window. Users can use the GO 500′s pinch zoom feature to zoom in and out on the main map, and can navigate to any destination on the map by long-pressing it and then pressing the steering wheel icon that appears. TomTomÕs selection of maps is comprehensive and highly accurate, although map accuracy may vary slightly from location to location. The GO 500 also comes with free map updates up to four times a year, which is more than sufficient to provide the driver with up-to-date information.

The search function updates results as the user types and displays search results in two columns, with addresses on the left and points of interest on the right.
