WELCOME

Home

Fort Valley State University is the only college in Georgia that is both a landgrant college and historically black university. Our mission is to equip people from all backgrounds with the knowledge and skills to impact the world as leaders in meaningful fields, and to also spread knowledge and resources throughout the state to make the lives of ordinary people better today.

FVSU is one of the most affordable colleges in the country, because our goal is to make sure anyone with talent and desire can use education as a stepping stone.

For almost 125 years, we have been the home of emerging geniuses who dream big dreams and are eager to make those dreams real as change agents in a wide variety of occupations, as researchers, as entrepreneurs, and as innovators. FVSU students and faculty share a love of invention and innovation, and embrace a culture where discovery is celebrated. Excellence is the common language across the campus, from degree programs, which have graduated the most African-American math majors in the country, to researchers and scientists making breakthroughs in organic food production, drone technology application, and solar energy, among many other areas.

But the value of the Wildcat experience goes beyond money. The friendships you’ll make will be invaluable and last your lifetime. You’ll develop relationships with faculty members who will invest in your success. You’ll explore areas of study you didn’t even know existed. What may be even more important is that you’ll discover just how much you are capable of accomplishing and the personal values that mean the most to you. But you won’t be alone. Once you become a Wildcat, you’ll join a family that stretches around the world. At FVSU, we take “family” to another level.

At FVSU, you can write your own success story.

Enroll at FVSU, and get ready to meet your greatest self.

“I felt like Fort Valley State University would give me the best chance to do what I want to do in life.” FULFILLING A DREAM When Abrahana James earned her degree from Fort Valley State University with a grade point average of 3.97, it was an achievement that spanned generations. Her mother and grandmother convinced her at an early age that she was going to be great, and it became a self-fulfilling prophesy. She began to strive for excellence every single day through sheer habit. Abrahana made the Dean’s List every year, and confidently walked across the graduation stage having already accepted a job with a Fortune 500 company. She plans to earn an MBA, open her own business, and eventually help others do the same. For this FVSU Wildcat, greatness is a family commitment. “I chose Fort Valley State University because when I first stepped on campus, I felt like I was home,” she said. “I felt like Fort Valley State University would give me the best chance to do what I want to do in life.”

“Being disciplined in the classroom is just as important as being disciplined on the field.”

A GENTLEMAN, SCHOLAR, AND AN ATHLETE Growing up, the championship bragging rights in Brian Cornish’s household belonged to his father, a Wildcat football team member who won three championships with his teammates in his day. Today, Cornish can do a little bragging of his own after helping to lead the Wildcats to an NCAA Division II SIAC conference football championship as co-captain. Cornish is an example of the scholar-athlete FVSU has made a priority of celebrating. He graduated as the male athlete with the highest grade point average and made the Dean’s List each of his four years at the university, while also playing in the starting lineup.

in agriculture. He majored in agricultural economics to explore how the world gets fed and offer solutions to challenges associated with limited resources and growing populations. He’s already conducted and presented research on antibiotic food additives. After graduating, Cornish enrolled in graduate school at Auburn University. He has some advice for new students who want to succeed both on the field and in the classroom. “Being a student athlete is just that,” he said. “In the term ‘student athlete,’ the ‘student’ part comes before the ‘athlete’ part for a reason. Being disciplined in the classroom is just as important as being disciplined on the field.”

Brian grew up watching his grandparents grow fruits and vegetables in their large garden and became interested 13
