Fort Worth Country Day

Welcome

Falcon Spring Sports 2017

From the Head of School

Dear Falcon Fans: Thank you for supporting Fort Worth Country Day athletics. Here at FWCD, we have a wonderfully storied and proud athletic history that involves Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC) championships, stellar athletes who have taken their experiences from FWCD to the collegiate level, and plenty of other athletes whose careers did not go beyond high school but who benefited both from our coaches’ teaching and from the powerful experience of being a member of a team. With their efforts and their attitudes, our student-athletes make us proud. You are reading this because you are one of our Falcon fans. We appreciate your support, the calm clapping type, and the wildly exuberant variety as well. Our players benefit so much from your presence and from your enthusiasm. With 25 years of coaching and lots more of competing myself, I have a hard time not caring about a match or a game or a meet. I enjoy getting to watch practices and then getting to see the results of those practices on game days. Any outward appearance of calm on my part is a rehearsed front. I have plenty of advice for volleyball and soccer referees in particular, but, of course, I cannot say those out loud. I invite you to join me in reminding myself and others of our desire to model for our athletes the best possible sportsmanship. As fans, that means we do not “ride” referees. We respect them and trust that they are doing their best. My high standards for our behavior are right up there with my standards for our performance. We should always be aiming high. I want us to compete; I hope we win a lot. Win or lose, though, I am eager for us to be thought of as That School, the one with the really respectful players and fans. Please help us be That School. Sincerely,

Eric Lombardi Head of School

Fort Worth Country Day

Welcome

Falcon Spring Sports 2017

From the Athletic Director

Welcome to the campus of Fort Worth Country Day. It is hard to believe that the spring season is here and baseball, golf, lacrosse, softball, tennis and track and field are in full swing. Here at FWCD and around the nation, high school athletes worked hard preparing for another season of competition. Athletics at any level can generate excitement, but there is something special about high school sports. Maybe it’s the lasting friendships that are formed or the life lessons and sportsmanship learned from coaches, or the support of the community that comes from caring parents, students and friends that take the excitement to another level. All I know is that the memories created because of high school athletic participation are enduring and our most cherished ones. Remember that competition produces emotional changes for student-athletes and fans alike. Channeling these feelings in positive directions will ensure fair play and sportsmanship by all. All competitors are trying to achieve their goal of winning, but it is important to learn along the way that respect for opponents, character and honor are qualities that create solid citizens. In closing, let me take a moment to thank the many people it takes to produce an athletic program of which everyone can be proud. Thank you to the FWCD administrators, teachers, staff, friends and parents for all of their support. A special thanks to the Falcon Club for all they do. It is greatly appreciated. Win or lose, I hope you enjoy your visit to our campus and please have a safe journey home. If I can be of assistance to you, please do not hesitate to call on me.

THANK YOU! 2015-16 Falcon Club Committee As the 2015-16 presidents of the Falcon Club, Michelle and Scott Marlow put in countless volunteer hours and a tremendous amount of hard work to oversee memberships, program ads, concessions and merchandise sales efforts that resulted in an unprecedented $138,000 for FWCD athletic and PE programs. Each and every person from the Falcon Club Committee to the Athletic Department and Business Office played a huge role in the year’s success! We, in the Athletic Department, sincerely appreciate all of the time, effort and support throughout the year, and we thank everyone for putting the “fun” in the fundraising for Falcon Club. We look forward to seeing you cheer on the Falcons and support this year’s Falcon Club! Go Falcons, Frank Gendusa Athletic Director
