from the Head of School
Dear Falcon Fans,
We started playing interscholastic sports as a school in 1963, the year FWCD was founded. Student-athletes spent part of their practices those first few years picking rocks out of the converted ranch land. How far we have come! As the School celebrates its 60th birthday, we hope you enjoy our bounty of updated facilities, including our newly resurfaced Barrett Havran Track, our turfed Howard Family Field, our water-based turf field hockey field, and our most recently added softball field lights.
More than facilities, though, FWCD athletics is about our students, their coaches, and all of us as fans. Each team, student-athlete, coach, parent, guardian and fan will add to the School’s athletic history this fall as in any season in our past. We all look forward to the memories that will be made in our gyms and on our fields in 2023-24.
You are likely reading this as a fan in our bleachers. Thank you for supporting our teams, our athletes, our coaches and our opponents. We appreciate your support, both the calm, clapping type and the wildly exuberant variety. Our players benefit so much from your presence and your enthusiasm.
In that enthusiasm, I remind everyone of our desire to model the best possible sportsmanship. We respect our opponents, and we trust that our referees and umpires are doing their best. Please be a part of the Falcon fandom with high expectations of ourselves and of our fellow fans: We need to all be a part of the Sportsmanship Flock.
FWCD’s commitment to sportsmanship evolves from our cherished core values. We should always be aiming high. Win or lose, though, let us give reason to be thought of as That School, the one that competes to win, and that has the especially respectful players and fans. Let’s be that school, and let’s make it a great season!
Go Falcons,
Eric V. Lombardi Head of School

Welcome

from the Athletic Director
Dear Falcon Fans, Welcome to fall sports!
We are coming off a very exciting year in athletics. Construction on our state-ofthe-art water turf field hockey field, the Howard Family Field in Rosacker Stadium, and Barrett Havran Track were finished in October. Our first-class facilities were on display last spring as Fort Worth hosted the Spring Southwest Preparatory Conference Tournaments, where we claimed championships in softball and girls and boys track.
FWCD enjoyed success all of last year, not just in spring. In addition to our spring championship teams, we had four teams finish fourth, three finish third, and two finish as runners-up in SPC Tournament play. In addition, seven student-athletes claimed 10 SPC individual championships, and over the course of the year, more than three dozen student-athletes medaled in SPC Tournaments.
Our aim is to cultivate a competitive spirit and team-first mentality in our student-athletes. Outcomes will vary — if we win, we’ll win with humility; if we lose, we’ll lose with grace — but you will see that our student-athletes’ efforts will be consistent. Our Falcons will play hard; they will compete.
We also aim to teach our student-athletes to put their team before themselves, to understand that the opportunity to be on a team, to be a part of something larger than yourself, is a gift. Our student-athletes will play together
As for fans in the stands, we will follow the example our kids set on the field and the court. We will respect our opponents and officials and represent the School with class and pride. Watching our kids compete is such a privilege, and we’re all fortunate to witness their incredible efforts. Let’s support them in any way we can.
I hope you enjoy the fall athletics season, culminating with the Fort Worth schools hosting Fall SPC. We are all looking forward to another great playoff run for FWCD.
Go Falcons! Leigh Block Director of Athletics

Welcome
Falcon Club
The Falcon Club is Fort Worth Country Day’s athletic booster club. The organization supports all teams at the varsity, junior varsity and Middle School levels, and Lower School and Middle School PE programs. All Falcons, JK-12, benefit from the financial support the Falcon Club gives to the Athletic Department.
Falcon Club memberships, program ads and merchandise sales provide funds to improve the FWCD athletic programs with items and activities not covered under the athletic operation budget. In addition to hosting cookouts and Falcon Rally pizza parties for fans, Falcon Club purchase highlights of the past few years include soccer goals, volleyball standards and basketball goals; gym chairs, score tables and wall padding; water cows, EPI Pens and AEDs; a baseball field home plate halo, awards boards, an ice machine, our climbing wall, video equipment, portable scorers carts for our field, and Boombah bags for student-athletes; and contributions toward the baseball mound turf and softball lights. And that is only part of the complete list!
The Falcon Club welcomes new members and encourages volunteering! Not only is membership a fun way to meet parents and guardians and support FWCD, but it also keeps you informed and involved in the School’s athletic program. Some ways to help coaches and athletes include running the time clock, moving the chains at football games, or working in the concession stand or the Falcon Nest Spirit Shop.
Check out the Falcon Club webpage on the FWCD website for more information about membership: fwcd.org/falconclub.
We look forward to seeing you in the stands and on the sidelines, cheering on our Falcon teams.
