Welcome to Falcon Country Dear Falcon Fans, Thank you for supporting our teams, our athletes, our coaches and our opponents. Here at Fort Worth Country Day, we have a wonderfully storied and proud athletic history that involves Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC) championships, stellar athletes who have taken their experiences from FWCD to the collegiate level, and plenty of other athletes whose careers did not go beyond high school but who benefited both from our coaches’ teaching and from the powerful experience of being a member of a team. With their efforts and their attitudes, our student-athletes make us proud. Our coaches make us proud as well. With high standards set by our Athletic Director, Brian Phelps, we have educators running our practices and guiding our games to get the most out of our student-athletes. So, as you support the players, don’t forget to appreciate the dedication of their coaches as well. No doubt you are reading this program because you are a Falcon fan. We appreciate your support, both the calm clapping type and the wildly exuberant variety as well.* In all of that enthusiasm, I remind you of our desire to model for our athletes the best possible sportsmanship. As fans, that means we do not “ride” referees, and we certainly do not hassle opposing players or teams. We respect our opponents, and we trust that our referees are doing their best. Our school’s high standards for behavior are right up there with our high standards for performance. We should always be aiming high. Win or lose, though, let us give reason to be thought of as That School, the one that always competes to win and the one with the always respectful players and fans. Please help Mr. Phelps and his coaches in our efforts to be That School. Go Falcons,
Eric Lombardi Head of School
*You will no doubt notice the more exuberant variety of fans in our new student bleachers, a gift of the Class of 2019!

Welcome I personally want to welcome you to Fort Worth Country Day. I feel tremendously proud to be a part of the FWCD Falcon community. The School’s athletic experience provides a powerful platform to mentor young people. Framed in today’s school culture, athletic teams also are a powerful first impression of an educational institution. The University of Alabama and Duke University are incredible academic institutions, but the moment many of you read the university’s name, you thought “football” and “basketball.” That is the power of athletics! We take our athletics here at Fort Worth Country Day very seriously because we take the fostering of student-athletes and the reputation of our school very seriously. I believe that our school is uniquely positioned to offer our student-athletes an excellent athletic experience along with superior academics and a top-notch arts program. I hope you will join our coaches, students, faculty and staff, and fans in supporting our athletes and our teams throughout the school year. Please get involved in some way to support FWCD and FWCD athletics … we need YOU in order to be the best athletic experience in town. I look forward to partnering with you as we continue to build upon being the best that we can be at FWCD in academics, the arts and athletics. Go Falcons!
Brian Phelps Director of Athletics

Dear Falcon Fans, Last fall, we experienced a level of school spirit that we haven’t seen in our 15-plus years as Fort Worth Country Day parents. Our students carved out a dedicated section in the football stands and stayed on their feet for 48 minutes of every game, including in Dallas as the Falcons clinched another SPC Championship. You’ve got to experience the energy for yourself – it’s awesome! This year, we hope that same school spirit spreads to ALL of FWCD’s sports and, more importantly, to all families JK12. So this fall, cheer on our volleyball athletes as they dig, dink and kill. Go to a cross country meet and yell words of encouragement as they run a course that bends through trees and over hills. Leave the office early to watch a fastpaced field hockey game where our athletes flick, scoop and drive a rock-hard ball. And then there’s the Texas tradition of “Friday Night Lights” with our cheerleaders, band and fans cheering for the football team as they defend their SPC title. You also can show your support by joining Falcon Club – FWCD’s athletic booster club, which benefits all Falcons, JK-12, by supporting Lower School and Middle School PE programs, in addition to Middle School and Upper School sports. The Falcon Club’s mission is “to create school spirit, support and enthusiasm for Fort Worth Country Day athletics throughout the School community.” As members, you can proudly display your 2019-20 Falcon Club sticker and use your Falcon Bucks (a thank you for joining) to grab some gear at the Nest. Then you’ll be ready to head out to cheer on our incredible athletes. Join at fwcd.org/falconclub. With your support, it’s going to be a fantastic year! GO FALCONS!
