Start here. Meghann Kasal ’13 I’ve always liked school; I couldn’t wait to get there so I could see what new things we were learning in the science lab, creating in art and reading in class. I loved the challenges and overcoming problems, so my curiosity led me to explore all that Fort Worth Country Day has to offer. Since eighth-grade, I’ve performed in six school productions, explored other musical interests for seven years in the FWCD band and expanded my passion for the arts through photography. Through the arts, I expressed myself in a way that is creative and unique to me. On the athletic fields, I was part of three Division 1 SPC Championships and was honored as a finalist for the prestigious Davey O’Brien High School Scholarship. At the heart of my FWCD experience, I sought to expand my knowledge and explore my passions for science, language and math—rather than to excel for the sole purpose of receiving good grades. I experienced the highest level of education thanks to an outstanding faculty and was salutatorian of my class and a National Merit Commended Student as a result. My achievements were possible because of many teachers—K-12—who helped me discover my passion, which guided me to Swarthmore College, my first-choice school.

Start here. Ethan Rohrbach ’13 As a Fort Worth Country Day student, I developed my medical ambitions outside traditional science coursework, shadowing doctors and observing surgeries as early as my sophomore year. From there I co-founded an organization that brought in doctors of differing specializations to teach peers with similar interests about the realities of the medical field beyond biology class. This past summer, I worked in hospitals in Arusha, Tanzania. FWCD provided me an educational platform to expand on my strengths, shape my pre-professional interests and affect my community in unconventional ways. With FWCD’s diverse and encouraging foundation, I also transformed my love of modern music into an independent study on electronic music composition and co-founded a DJ business. FWCD coaches taught me perseverance, which propelled me to earn 12 varsity letters and complete a full marathon. These collective experiences and my selection as a National Merit Finalist led me to the University of Pennsylvania, where I will study biochemistry and expand on the extensive, well-rounded platform that FWCD has given me. I can’t wait to see what my peers will do with the possibilities.

Start here. Maura Vestal ’13 One thing that I carry with me from my six years at Fort Worth Country Day is my teachers’ encouragement to be adventurous and bold. With the help of others, I learned how to form my own opinions and write thoughtful essays. FWCD’s teachers are truly one-of-a-kind. For a freshman government and economics project, I researched Finland, a country of 5.5 million people. This project changed my life. Thanks to the assignment and my teacher’s guidance, a summer in Finland became a reality. At FWCD, students are encouraged to go outside of their comfort zones. During my time at FWCD, I attended a Marine Biology course in the Bahamas and became founder/ president of Project Save Our Sharks. FWCD’s support and encouragement has helped me ever since I arrived here as a seventh-grader, and, with that support, I am attending Franklin College Switzerland. What will FWCD do for you?

Go anywhere. Stanley Brown ’13 It was in ninth grade when I began to realize what FWCD truly meant to me. Mr. [Bill] Arnold ’86 gave my Government and Economics class a project centered on a national issue; we had to research the issue and write policy recommendations. He chose three proposals to send to the president for his personal review. Mine was one of them. That year, I realized I have a voice; I do have the opportunity to express my opinion and be the change I wish to see in the community. The impact Country Day has had on my life can be summarized in one word: opportunity. I was president of two student organizations; recognized as top 10 percent in my class; lettered in two varsity sports; achieved several athletic awards; was offered a spot on lacrosse teams around the country; started a disc-jockey and music entertainment business; and acquired numerous jobs, internships and volunteer positions. FWCD granted me the opportunity to attend Columbia University in the city of New York. Where will FWCD take you?

Go anywhere. Chelsea Ignagni ’08 I have always been passionate about the arts. Performing in high school plays and dancing in countless ballet recitals, I found myself well-versed in theater, music and dance thanks to Fort Worth Country Day. The School’s academic rigor and reputation afforded me the opportunity to attend New York University and earn a Presidential Honors Scholarship. At NYU, I majored in dramatic literature and minored in media, culture and communication. Outside of the classroom, I completed seven internships with New York’s most prestigious theater institutions. As an intern at ABC Primetime Casting and Tara Rubin Casting, I discovered my love of casting and worked on numerous television pilots and Broadway musicals, including Jersey Boys and The Phantom of the Opera. I am now working as an independent casting director on several short films, plays and fashion editorials. I have also assisted in the casting of over 40 OffBroadway shows. Without FWCD’s foundation in academics and arts, I would not have had the ability to spring into a career in the entertainment industry. I am thankful I attended a school that emphasizes the importance of both scholarly and creative pursuits.

Go anywhere. Shree Bose ’12 My interest in biology was first sparked as a freshman in Mrs. [Sharon] Hamilton’s class. I have always wanted to be a doctor or medical researcher with the goal of doing something to make the world a better place. After losing my grandfather to lung cancer four years ago, I was inspired to take on complex cell research through the University of North Texas Health Science Center. I was thrilled to be named the winner of the first Google Global Science Fair in 2011 for my research in treating drug-resistant cancers. As a result of this honor, I earned a tremendous college scholarship; a tour of the European Center for Nuclear Research, a worldrenowned powerhouse for particle and theoretical physics research in Geneva; and a 10-day trip to the Galapagos Islands. I’ve also had the opportunity to showcase my research to President Barack Obama and National Institutes of Health directors and speak at events all over the world, including a talk at TEDxWomen. I’m now in my second year of study at Harvard University. FWCD gave me the tools to go anywhere!
