The Perfect 10 In Loving Memory of Barrett Martin Havran ’98 June 6, 1979 - March 14, 2011 Barrett Havran loved Fort Worth Country Day, a school he attended K-12, graduating in May 1998. He excelled at FWCD, earning recognition as Most Valuable Football Lineman and Most Valuable Track Team Member his junior and senior years. A natural leader, Barrett served as Captain of both teams and was elected Homecoming King. FWCD honored his hard work in academics, athletics, theatre and community service by selecting him as the Outstanding Freshman and Sophomore Boy and for the Rocky Rosacker, Bill Curtis and Lawrence Kleuser Awards. Earning a track scholarship to The University of Texas at Austin, Barrett graduated in May 2002 with a BBA from the McCombs School of Business. He was a member of UT’s Big 12 Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship Team. As a junior, Barrett was the ninth-ranked decathlete in school history and ranked 18th in the nation. He was awarded the Lan Hewlett Award, given annually to the UT Track and Field senior athlete with the highest cumulative GPA. Barrett was a four-year letterman, Track and Field Captain, and a four-year member of the UT Athletic Director’s and the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Rolls. He was selected for the Big 12 All-American Track and Field Academic First Team, and was a member and officer of Delta Tau Delta and the American Marketing Association. After graduating with a Juris Doctor degree from SMU’s Dedman School of Law in May 2006, Barrett was admitted to the Texas Bar. As a law student, he was a member of the National Championship White Collar Crime Mock Trial Team and named the top advocate of the competition in Washington, D.C. He was SMU’s On Campus Mock Trial Champion, the Locke Liddell & Sapp Negotiation Winner, a member of the SMU National Negotiation Team, and a two-time member of and regional finalist on the American Trial Lawyers Mock Trial Team. A Student Bar Association and Voting Council Representative, Barrett was named SMU’s Outstanding Advocate and was elected to the Order of the Barristers, Master Level. As a young professional, Barrett was an active member of the Dallas Bar Association and Dallas Association of Young Lawyers, where he was elected to its Leadership Class and Foundation. Barrett was an Associate Member of the Higginbotham American Inn of Court and a member of the United Way Income Council, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tarrant County Board of Directors, Downtown Fort Worth Rotary Club, Steeplechase Club, Leadership Fort Worth, University Christian Church and UT’s Ex Letterman’s Club. Barrett’s final honor was his posthumous selection to the Fort Worth Business Press “40 under 40” Class of 2011.
