Welcome to Falcon Country Dear Athletes, Families and Fans, Our Falcon athletes and coaches deserve this program as a memento of their seasons. I only wish you were receiving it as you walked up to a track meet; a tennis or golf match; or a baseball, softball or lacrosse game. Of course, as a result of the COVID-19 quarantine, we have not had a true spring sports season for our teams, but our athletes’ and coaches’ preparation for the season absolutely needs to be honored. Plenty of FWCD athletes participated in wonderful fall and winter seasons. They had the good fortune of completing their seasons. For those spring athletes who had fall or winter or both seasons to represent our school, I am glad for at least that bit of good fortune. Little did we know how lucky we could feel just to have been able to have a complete season. Obviously, the athletes celebrated in this program are not getting to complete their seasons. Many of you would call your spring sport your best or your favorite. You had, depending on your spring break, two or three weeks of official workouts and practices and some preliminary games. Tennis, lacrosse and baseball players had been enjoying work with their new coaches. I am glad for the opportunity you had for at least some of the experience of your 2020 spring season, but, mostly, we are broken-hearted for you. You have been denied the chance to go through an entire season, its ups and downs, its wins and losses. Each of you personally did not get the chance to prove to yourself how much you could improve, how many ways you could contribute to the team, how much you could learn from your teammates and coaches. Our coaches are not getting the joy that brought them to coaching to begin with: the chance to be a part of your growth and improvement, in practice, in competition and beyond. At Fort Worth Country Day, we believe deeply in the value of participating in team sports. The athletes and coaches listed in this program were just getting started demonstrating their commitment when the season was cut short. The shorter season is sad for us all, but mostly for our athletes. Even through the sadness, we smile at the thought of your efforts; we celebrate your accomplishments in the early season; and we honor all of the potential you were forced to leave unrealized. May you have many full seasons ahead of you. Go Falcons,
Eric Lombardi Head of School

Welcome Dear Falcon Family, The 2019-20 athletics season is one for the history books! Falcon Club Presidents Trish (Thompson) ’86 and Mo Sheats ’86 have brought an incredibly impressive energy to so many Falcon sporting events. They, of course, would be the first to say that much of their success is due to the dedicated volunteers that were willing to partner with them all year long. The countless hours they have put into improving the Falcon Club’s volunteer structure; rolling out live-streaming of the varsity football games; overseeing memberships, programs ads and concessions; working with countless volunteers; and supporting Falcon athletics resulted in significant success for both the FWCD athletic and our PE programs. This spring sports program spotlights our student-athletes competing in baseball, golf, lacrosse, softball, tennis, and track and field. The students and coaches in this program had their seasons cut short, as Fort Worth Country Day transitioned to FWCD Online during the COVID-19 pandemic. Though campus is closed, school has continued, and our athletes have committed themselves for building their strength. I would like to especially draw your attention to page 40 of this book. Our spring senior athletes deserve a round of applause, a standing ovation really. They make us proud. This book honors those seniors and those student-athletes who would have proudly and winningly represented the Falcons this spring. This entire year has been a success, and so many people played important roles. It was a team effort, and I can truly say that I am honored and proud to be a part of this team. #OneFWCD Go Falcons!

FWCD Families, As the 2019-20 school year comes to a close, it is with heartfelt appreciation that we say, THANK YOU! Thank you to our student-athletes for their hard work and dedication. Thank you to the coaches, trainers, fans, parents, grandparents, faculty, and the countless volunteers who gave their time and talents this year. And a special thanks to Rachel Donahue -- she’s a rock star. We also would like to say farewell and good luck to Athletic Director Brian Phelps and his family as they return to Ohio. Thanks, Brian, for your dedication and leadership. You will be missed! The 2020 spring season of Falcon athletics will forever be remembered as one for the history books. The closing of the FWCD campus and shifting to FWCD Online was launched as Falcons entered into new social-distancing guidelines and “Stay Home, Work Safe” mandates as a result of COVID-19. Though spring seasons were halted, this edition of the sports program recognizes and highlights our spring senior athletes, our spring undergraduate athletes and our dedicated advertisers. We hope that all of you feel our appreciation for the roles that you played this year. Without every one of you, Falcon Club and support for the Athletic Department would be greatly hindered. Because of your dedication and financial support, you helped fund Lower School PE, Middle School PE and sports, and Upper School sports. You showed your school spirit by shopping the Nest and proudly wearing your red and blue to cheer the Falcons on to victory. As we finish our commitment of serving as Falcon Club Presidents, we are forever grateful for this opportunity to give back to the Country Day community in this meaningful way. We look forward to seeing everyone back on campus this fall! GO FALCONS!
